Given that the 7th fleet (the Pacific one) has been running into each other, into merchant ships – why would a US sub in the pacific running into a mountain be so very different?
In 2018 alone, there were 5 incidents: 1 involving the US ship going aground and 4 involving collisions with civilian ships. And we’re not talking about just little ones: 1 involved a container ship and the other, an oil tanker. Container ships can be 200,000 tons and oil tankers 70,000 tons.

Funny, I’m over at Strategic Culture right now also. I haven’t read that piece yet but it’s next.
What I did just read is an excellent piece by Patrick Lawrence, to the effect that the US has no functioning institutional and cultural mind with which to think, and therefore cannot think, and sits paralyzed in crisis, not knowing what to think, and not being able even to think about what might be thought.
It struck a chord, and I wanted to share it:
The Manufacture of Decline
In a new open thread I might say more, but for now I’ll leave it for the late-night crawlers who can’t bear to see a bar close, for anyone still around this thread who might catch it.
I liked it immensely, and I recommend it, and I would love to know what others think about it – and I speak from unknowing: it says something very profound and something I hadn’t quite ever heard before.

Climategate revisited: the message was: “The End is Near!!!” IPCC lead scientists did not want to dilute that message: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K_8xd0LCeRQ

Grieved @203–
Thanks for linking to that excellent essay! Lawrence well articulates what’s on my mind. The essay he uses as a foil looks different after the passage of 100+ years as we know more truth about those times than Paul Valéry. Nowhere, however, is there any mention that a Class Caste wrought the destruction of then and now, the People having no tools to regulate the power driving them over the cliff–the only way out then and now is to quit en masse like the Russian Army did. But we see very few voting with their feet within the Outlaw US Empire at the moment, except for those who quit their slave-pay jobs in search of something better.
There is a possibility–probability–that the media is masking reality at the grassroots as Let’s Go Braindead Brandon becomes a rallying cry across the contrived political divide. IMO, the nation has at long last reached its Network moment, with Let’s Go Brandon being the equivalent of “We’re mad as hell and not going to take it anymore.” Then there’s another forgotten movie with a similar message, Bullworth, that ought to be trotted out. The clear fact is the American people have been betrayed and lied to for decades going back to the last years of WW2 when genuine war info was censored and not made public until the event had long passed. IMO, the biggest betrayal was the premeditated breaking of the UN Charter and US Constitution in October 1945, a fact few know today–even historians and international law scholars who self-censor that crucial information for who knows what reasons. And it goes on here on this blog too. How many take what they write of and apply it to their lives?
Thanks again for sharing what I overlooked at Strategic-Culture.
