But even this subset isn’t enough, so certain authors took it upon themselves to further “improve” the data by cutting off inconvenient portions, by flipping proxies upside down (!), by even doing this to individual tree records comprising a proxy set. Posted by: c1ue | Aug 12 2021 16:28 utc | 309 Thanks to the barflies who responded to my asking for data about their motor fuel costs to test Jake Sullivan’s assertions that fuel cost inflation here in the Outlaw US Empire is OPEC’s fault, not the flooding of cash into Wall Street by the Federal Reserve. More data would be nice, but based on what was provided it’s very clear that Fed policy is to blame, not OPEC, making Jake Sullivan just another lying, misdirecting Bureaucrat we’ve come to know and loathe so well. Meanwhile, Taliban continue to consolidate in Afghanistan, as Herat falls. Will be interesting to see if Taliban 2.0 allows more integration with foreign commerce and associated defense forces. Previously this couldn’t happen if there were random bombing from the air. Might change if China and Pakistan see enough in it for them to defend the skies… Posted by: ptb | Aug 12 2021 17:06 utc | 311 ptb @312– Putin on the Peresvet weapon. Posted by: Peter AU1 | Aug 12 2021 17:22 utc | 313 The picture of science as nothing but successful prediction, where all scientific hypotheses are simple and immediately falsifiable by experiment, is indeed common. The primary exponent of this picture is the right-wing philosopher Karl Popper. I believe it is popular with conservative scientists, who are after all people who have let their right-wing prejudices compromise their work. Science however is about explaining the world. A world where higher temperatures somehow create carbon dioxide is one operating on unknown principles. But the world where carbon dioxide absorbs more infrared radiation—keeping it from escaping into space, thereby cooling the planet—is the one we live in. It’s true that models are not laboratory controlled experiments. But the requirement that the term science be limited solely to the results of laboratory controlled experiments is purely a political requirement, ideology that has nothing to do with explaining the world. So-called criticisms that focus only on imaginary criteria for scientificity are more examples of the creationist playbook: Don’t explain, just poke holes. But the point is to explain. Note that the UK is already there too. The numbers doesn’t add up to 17 as per previous post, but 15 border bases plus 9 Air bases and training bases now gives 24. Sore losers. Mind you I doubt that a brigade will do anything other than add intense chaos to a ‘withdrawal’ from the US embassy! Since when is a nation as small as Afghanistan housing a US embassy so large that it needs 3,000 soldiers to escort them out of town? That is truly a measure of DipolaticAnarchy. Posted by: uncle tungsten | Aug 12 2021 23:33 utc | 330 Pretty soon the only country in the Lima group will be Canada. Posted by: arby | Aug 12 2021 23:49 utc | 332 Maybe, JUST maybe USA’s plan all along was to prop up the Taliban and allow it to slowly take over Afghanistan while pretending to “fight it”. A fundamentalist group such as the Taliban will NEVER modernize or allow Afghanistan to modernize and will be sure to keep the chaos in Afghanistan going for 10-20 more years, thus preventing Afghanistan to be integrated into BRI. All of US’s actions in the last 20 years prove my theory is correct. True? this scumbag has more lives than a cat and with his ethical refinements would be right at home with Erdogan.
If Atta has any sense of history he might consider a patch of C4 on Dostum’s forehead as a good will gesture.
I disagree with Bhadrakumar on this. You bet Biden would employ him and maybe has plans to that exact end especially if the egomaniacal Erdogan is in on the gig. Can you imagine these three obscene greedy rsoles let loose to destroy Afghanistan renewal and sabotage any chance of OBOR integration. Perhaps the troops fulfill the same role abroad as the police do at home in the USA, to terrorise the populace while the looting proceeds apace. There seems to be a lot of evidence for this. Posted by: uncle tungsten | Aug 14 2021 1:38 utc | 355 karlof1 #353
Hahahaha the hide of these commies to enforce a system where accountability and efficient redistribution of taxes and profits are applied to the economy AS A WHOLE that likely will result in a far larger China GDP than that in the oligarchic west. Just imagine if people were to discover that GDP (if you can trust that measure) were to demonstrate a far stronger economic throughput via a Chinese economy that was deliberate and meticulous in regulation! Watch for all the press saying that GDP was a bad measure, never was accurate, past its use-by-date, time to move along in the new bright i-economy of today, here – buy some bitcoin. etc, etc Posted by: uncle tungsten | Aug 14 2021 2:02 utc | 356 @ karlof1 | Aug 14 2021 1:30 utc | 355 with the interesting read at Counter Punch…thaks Posted by: psychohistorian | Aug 14 2021 2:15 utc | 357 karlof1 #353 Posted by: uncle tungsten | Aug 14 2021 3:12 utc | 358 Below is a link to a story about Ivermectin use in India that is not being reported in MSM Posted by: psychohistorian | Aug 14 2021 4:18 utc | 359

The report is filled with valuable links to sources showing the actual data behind this story, and including the meta analyses of similar such stories from scientists and doctors around the world. It also illustrates the very blatant censorship of these stories, including at the level of senior editors at Wikipedia. The whole red-state meme was bullshit to start with – the largest single group of vaccine hesitant are African-Americans. Posted by: c1ue | Aug 14 2021 19:23 utc | 372 I’d like to write that what’s reported in the linked news item is an extremely rare occurrence, but it’s not. PTSD can be foisted onto people in very unsuspecting ways; and for those who where the unfortunate witnesses, their chances of overcoming it won’t be easy. 9 out of 10 people in five liars don’t give a shit about China or Russia as they are too worried about their own gubment Posted by: ld | Aug 14 2021 22:16 utc | 374 The Canadian border opens to vaccinated US visitors.
