Given the scale of the services sector in the UK, the trade deficit is irrelevant if not combined with the services surplus – i.e. the current account deficit. Then it also has to be compared to GDP, In 2020 the UK current account deficit was 3.5% of GDP – not good but not awful. The UK had a current account surplus until the late 1990s (due to oil exports) and also had a historically high level of overseas assets to begin with. Then you have to look at the capital flows account, which in the case of the UK more than balances the current account – which may also mean that the UK is selling assets to pay for ongoing expenses, a process which only stops when it stops.
That stop can be very painful, e.g. the late 1990s Asia Financial Crisis. BREXIT may bring that date forward for the UK as it means a move of services activities to the Continent and reduces the allure of British assets to foreign investors. The British government has also been slashing social services expenditures (including support for the NHS in real terms and transfers to local governments) and selling off state assets on the cheap to its buddies (many done through offshore entities that pay no UK tax) – both of which free up cash to spend on vanity military projects such as the HMS Queen Elizabeth.

Not off hand but I recall that during the Soviet occupation of Afganistan heroin use in Pakistan was off the charts presumably because the Empires Muslim freedom fighters were using it to fund operations with the Empires help. I am sure the rest of the region suffered the same fate to a degree.
That may explain why the Taliban took a hard stand against heroin when they took the country over back in those days. Mainly to cut off funding of their enemies heroin supplies and its drug trafficking networks.

In Schwartz’s study, some 89 eligible volunteers over the age of 18 who were diagnosed with coronavirus and staying in state-run COVID-19 hotels were divided into two groups: 50% received ivermectin, and 50% received a placebo, according to their weight. They were given the pills for three days in a row, an hour before a meal.
The volunteers were tested using a standard nasopharyngeal swab PCR test with the goal of evaluating whether there was a reduction in viral load by the sixth day – the third day after termination of the treatment. They were swabbed every two days.
Nearly 72% of volunteers treated with ivermectin tested negative for the virus by day six. In contrast, only 50% of those who received the placebo tested negative.
IN ADDITION, the study looked at culture viability, meaning how infectious the patients were, and found that only 13% of ivermectin patients were infectious after six days, compared with 50% of the placebo group – almost four times as many.
“Our study shows first and foremost that ivermectin has antiviral activity,” Schwartz said. “It also shows that there is almost a 100% chance that a person will be noninfectious in four to six days, which could lead to shortening isolation time for these people. This could have a huge economic and social impact.”
The study appeared on the MedRxiv health-research sharing site. It has not yet been peer reviewed.
Schwartz said other similar studies – though not all of them conducted to the same double-blind and placebo standards as his – also showed a favorable impact of ivermectin treatment.

With about half of Ukraine agreeing with Putin’s essay about the links between Russians and Ukrainians, at some future point the non-Russians will cede the field. If NATO seriously tries to use Ukrainians as cannon fodder against Russia, it will ignite a genuine Civil War and NATO will end up the big loser. IMO, by 2030 this will be sorted out in Russia’s favor, and the EU will become crisis-ridden.

The problem is that they’re insanely more expensive to produce and distribute (to the point they’re not viable in Third World countries) and they’re not more, but less effective against new variants (i.e. they’re more, not less, virus-specific) than the old-school vaccines. They also appear to give a shorter immunity, but that’s not certain yet.

China considers people there Chinese, they will treat them with gloves. So no invasion. But naval blockade is strong possibility (not of all cargoes and not from everyone, just weapons from US etc.). Of course, after China denies seas around to hostile nations, which may become bloody affair. Japan, along with US, will be particularly targeted.
And, if Taiwanese government really becomes hostile, I expect few surgical strikes at them – their command centers and bunkers, only at the key people. Ordinary people will not be targeted. China wan’t Taiwan to come home, not to make enemy of its populace – which, in significant part, have strong sympathies towards mainland anyway (guess they too don’t like being LGBT+ converted, like the rest of the world).

Since you guys’ assignment is relatively recent, you’re probably not aware of the fact that Baric et al.’s 2015 Nature Medicine paper was discussed extensively on MoA in the early months of 2020. The Qanon types “discovered” it only much later and you Blueanons are last in line. Curiously, both disinfo groups have failed to notice some significant facts that are prominent in the paper. Here, at the MoA, more than a year ago, we did not miss the obvious.
Anyone who actually read the paper (it is open access) cannot fail to notice that the WIV involvement was minimal and rather innocuous. Zheng Li-shi provided Baric and his team with genetic samples of wild-type bat coronavirus (not infectious to man), which Baric promptly spliced onto the dangerous SARS-COV using materials he had obtained from his USAMRIID buddies at Ft. Detrick (check the damn paper already). The contribution of the other WIV related “co-author” was some pseudotype testing on the Frankenstein SARS virus that Baric had created at the UNC Chapel Hill BSL-3 lab.
From just the above, we can conclude the following:
1. Ralph Baric created a Frankenstein virus at UNC Chapel Hill. The WIV involvement was peripheral and innocuous;
2. The facilities that Baric claims to have used were all BSL-3 grade, not BSL-4.
I’d like to focus a bit on the latter point. Since both the Trumpist Chyynna!! bullshitters and now you two invoke the “BSL-4” meme, that makes a curious parallel, given the fact that Baric did the actual dangerous and questionable gain of function research on the dangerous SARS coronavirus in a BSL-3 grade lab (read the damn paper already!). The admission by “Tycho” of having had BSL-3 training is noteworthy and in light of what is stipulated in this paragraph only serves to put “Tycho” in a suspicious light. You disinfo guys need to get your act straight if you want to be your money’s worth.

The initial European clusters in the spring of 2020 in many instances were noticeably close to major NATO bases, and not to sites typically visited by Chinese tourists.
The Wuhan outbreak was subsequent to the 2019 Wuhan Military World Games, in which the US athletes performance was unusually and even exceptionally bad. The Chinese pointed to the hotel inwhichnthe US team had stayed as an early source of infections, much more so than the much maligned “wet market”.
There is much more than that, but why should I iterate over it when you simply refuse to respond to the glaring EVALI problem?

Currently less than 3% market share for EV’s in the US, mostly Teslas, and “Biden’s order is nonbinding”. In China such things are binding, they change the tax laws etc. to make it happen, so it will. Same thing in the EU. The US market religion and corruption will always screw up any attempt for the US to catch up, they will instead continue to fall behind.

Further on your comment difficulty, c1ue, I would observe that since the efficacy of the vaccine is being shown to be not long lasting, it wouldn’t be a stretch to assume the immunity connected to it also have a shorter life span. And the animal studies that were referred to in the trials mentioned in my original post did produce the alarming result that further exposure to the virus caused death of the test subjects. This would have been why no vaccines were produced for SARS, etc. as claimed in the extract at 75. Further trials on humans could not proceed, given this stark result.
I just think this is very worrying. I am not a scientist, just going by what is being said here. And as the extract above says, those who have taken the vaccines should have been made aware of the ADE problem. (I don’t know if they have been, as I am not among them.)

the vax in Japan is still voluntary. my office has an onsite program, using Moderna. local gov’ts used Pfizer. at the moment, Japan says it will not discriminate against the unvaxed.
i don’t have numbers but many people don’t like the vax. other foreigners seem to be getting the vax, specially since their country of origin is doing it too.

@ 82 / 83 andy… i have friends who speak highly of dr. hoffe..they live outside of lytton about 12 miles… lytton is one of the hottest places in canada.. they figure it was a spark off the train that runs thru town that caused the fire, but not sure if that got confirmed..
it used to be an agricultural centre over 100 years ago before it was replaced by the okanogan area here in b.c. i have picked asparagus in the wild in the lytton area and have many fond memories of the place back with i was in my late teens.. i have friends that still live in the area.. many, if not most of dr hoffes patients are probably indigenous people… i am not sure how that factors into the data he would’ve collected.. all i know is my friends speak highly of him…

Many will have heard of protests in Malaysia within the last week or so, I came across a video covering the (not so) surprising details of the funding sources for some of the groups involved. Although I only just found the youtube channel, it has 38k followers, so maybe this is old news. The quality of the commentary seems reasonable.
