next page » The Anglo-American Empire, the United States of America, the Land of the Free and the Home of the Brave is now the Land of the Slave and the Home of the Coward! The degenerate Americans, bereft of their ancestors’ virtues, have allowed, even welcomed, their own demise. Their government, now thoroughly corrupt, is easily purchased by domestic and foreign powers.
The checks and balances created by the Founding Fathers failed long ago. The Executive Branch writes its own laws and refuses to enforce those laws passed by the Legislature that it dislikes. It even ignores rulings by the courts that displease it. The Judicial Branch interprets law to give it meanings that the authors never intended. The Legislative Branch is reduced to passing bloated budgets, non-binding resolutions, and laws that do exactly the opposite of what they claim to do. Representatives represent any and everyone except their own citizens.
The degenerate Americans ignore the Founding Fathers’ advice and warnings. No entangling alliances warned the Founding Fathers – yet NATO, founded in need but maintained in pride long after that need ended, consumes our honor, our lives, and our treasure while distracting from far more pressing needs at home. Keep no standing army warned the Founding Fathers – today our military numbers in the millions to maintain an empire and to oppress our citizens (just as our Founding Fathers feared). Maintain eternal vigilance advised the Founding Fathers – yet our citizens abdicated their indispensable role in government so long ago that they don’t even remember what that role was. In fact, most Americans are so ignorant of their own history that they believe fantasies and fictions that their ancestors would have laughed at.
Freaks and perverts who were once relegated to circuses, mental institutions, and prisons now command admiration, power, and respect among the degenerate Americans. Their “men” are raised by Feminists and Marxist media, and educated in Marxist schools to hate themselves and everything masculine. “Conflict resolution” has replaced victory and right and wrong have been replaced by “tolerance”. Men’s roles as protector and provider have been ceded to the government. One cannot promote feminine men and masculine women and still produce masculine men. No wonder that our “Patriots” hesitate to act.

I love the smell of low hanging fruit in the morning. And I don't disagree with the general sentiment, but:
When you say, "Freaks and perverts who were once relegated to circuses, mental institutions, and prisons now command admiration, power, and respect among the degenerate Americans" one presumes the #1 person on that list is Donald J. Trump.
"Their “men” are raised by Feminists and Marxist media" shows a dearth of understanding of "Marxism" as the media you speak of is Capitalist media, owned by the billionaire class - Fascism is a much closer model to our reality. Indeed, the worry over masculinity is a hallmark of fascism, so maybe one doth protest too much.
So yeah, while your first few paragraphs track, the game is given away with your closing graphs. Long Live Q!

The tragedy of the American Left:
Opinion: Nina Turner’s loss in Ohio means Biden doesn’t need to keep caving to the left
I think it's very pathetic that the American leftists act like the Democratic Party was their party. Like if all the problems with the USA lied with the GOP.
Well, either way, fact is they are chastising themselves over what they did wrong in the primaries, while the true Democrat elite pat themselves on the back for another job well done in curbing them with a WaPo paid article.

It's never a bad time for some free merchandising:

Here’s the good news: As of now, if you’re an adult vaccinated with a double dose of an mRNA vaccine like Pfizer or Moderna, most experts I talked to believe the Delta variant is no more likely than the flu to hospitalize or kill you. (The Johnson & Johnson vaccine is another story, and while I do not give medical advice from the confines of this column, all the doctors I spoke to told me they would get an mRNA shot if all they’d gotten was Johnson & Johnson, and San Francisco General Hospital has made that official and so that’s what I did.)

See also my comment in the last thread (about Iran-USA relations).
Biden's lack of plan is so obvious to the rest of the world it's not even funny anymore. Only the Americans think his administration has some kind of transcendental, conspiratorial, Masters of the Universe-esque plan that will put the USA back on top someday, somehow.
Biden is fool's gold, or, rather, Americans' gold.

China set to launch locally made mRNA vaccine: Abogen's ARCoV can't come soon enough as Delta variant punctures efficacy of traditional Chinese shots now in use, by Frank Chen, for The Asia Times
If Mr. Chen had read Mr. Klein's propaganda piece, he wouldn't publish this piece of fake news today. Turns out mRNA vaccines also don't prevent you from being infected by the Delta variant.
Sinovac's old-school vaccine is as effective as any mRNA vaccine. The only difference is that it is much cheaper and much safer. Yes, you will get infected by the Delta variant, but you won't die or even need hospitalization from it.
Meanwhile, Israel will have to spend another small fortune on Pfizer booster shots.

That's not even the most hilarious part of his comment.
The most hilarious part was his deification of the founding fathers. Like as if they were some kind of race of Giants, aliens or gods that descended to what is present-day USA to lay the secret of life or something like that. A complete distortion of what the founding fathers themselves preached when they were alive, a complete show of Western intellectual degeneration.
It's interesting to note the clear parallel the Americans make, even if unconsciously, between the Bill of Rights (American Constitution) and Moses' Ten Commandments. There must be a correlation here between the American fanatic evangelical Christianism and such cultural behavior.

Name a religion, ethnicity or community speaking and standing up against imperialism, usury and enslavement in all forms.
What is the purpose of religion? Teach good values to develop good culture ...? Is religion about spirituality or symbolism?
Are these groups fraternities?
Gods are asking questions to various religions, countries & their priests, why are they being anti-humanistic by keeping quiet in midst of imperialism, enslavement, usury, violence, looting, deceits,....?

The UK military’s overseas base network involves 145 sites in 42 countries.
The British Empire didn't fall, it morphed into what? The individuals who control the British money supply control the British Empire. Who controls the British money supply?
The UK & U$A have been having trade deficits for the past many decades reaching upwards of $200+ billion and $500+ billion respectively. They have been free-riding and FREELOADING for many decades by creating ever more IOUs.
Who is paying for UK-U$A military bases and consumption?

This is the last post on the rumours in Canadian media, I promise!! With everything I’ve raised thus far, I thought I should mention (re-post) two more rumours/leaks, not unrelated:
1) Canada’s Head of State (The Queen, actually it might have been Prince Charles who took the lead on this one) tried to get Trump to resign, with Pence replacing him. I was just watching CBC’s The National one evening and there it was: clearly suggested.
2) Somehow as Team Trump was negotiating the Big Win Deal of the Century, the new NAFTA, the USMCA or CUSMA depending on where you live, the American powers managed to sign over their territory to Canada’s Head of State, which again, is not the PM or the President of the USA, but The Queen of England.

There are plenty news about the incident in Iran media in Farsi and Arabic. Based on those news, it seems it is truly, Bashar Assad has ordered to shoot down the Amerikan drone. It gives the path of flight, strating from American base in Jordan to the end, with specification etc.

Natural immunity is not enough anymore.
You need hybrid immunity now.
One question many people are asking is whether the immunity you get from contracting Covid and recovering is enough to protect you in the future. The answer is no, it’s not.
Here’s why.
If I’ve already had Covid-19, do I need a vaccine? And how does the immune system respond? An expert explains
Sputnik V is still not approved for use in South Africa and I doubt it ever will be. This has never been about saving lives.

"This Lucas guy may look like a deranged freak - but I bet the family's cow he represents the hopes and expectations of 99% of the American ELITE and at least 85% of the entire Western ELITES (including the Japanese, aka the honorary Westerners)."
Fixed it for you (the capitalized words), the average Westerner is just trying to feed and house their family while having some enjoyment in life.
"The truth always comes out in the end: 'Capable of Acting Without Americans': Tory MPs Call for British Troops to Go Back to Afghanistan This is what Brexit was about."
So true (especially as am a Brit/Canadian), the delusion of the Eton/Harrow, Oxford/Cambridge set (they infest all of the UK parties and all of the elite) wallowing in the need for the small island off the European archipelago to revisit its historic "glory" of Empire no matter how much blood (generally of other people's sons and daughters) and money (again, usually other people's given the massive amount of tax avoidance by the elites) is stunning. Two ridiculously expensive aircraft carriers leaving only enough money for a single destroyer, and of course the UK hyper-expensive nuclear "deterrent" that if used would see the UK turned into a burnt crisp. "Handbag economics" and "austerity" never seem to have harmed the burnishing of the Peacock Feathers of a fictitious "international player".
@Posted by: Max | Aug 5 2021 16:02 utc | 11
Given the scale of the services sector in the UK, the trade deficit is irrelevant if not combined with the services surplus - i.e. the current account deficit. Then it also has to be compared to GDP, In 2020 the UK current account deficit was 3.5% of GDP - not good but not awful. The UK had a current account surplus until the late 1990s (due to oil exports) and also had a historically high level of overseas assets to begin with. Then you have to look at the capital flows account, which in the case of the UK more than balances the current account - which may also mean that the UK is selling assets to pay for ongoing expenses, a process which only stops when it stops.
That stop can be very painful, e.g. the late 1990s Asia Financial Crisis. BREXIT may bring that date forward for the UK as it means a move of services activities to the Continent and reduces the allure of British assets to foreign investors. The British government has also been slashing social services expenditures (including support for the NHS in real terms and transfers to local governments) and selling off state assets on the cheap to its buddies (many done through offshore entities that pay no UK tax) - both of which free up cash to spend on vanity military projects such as the HMS Queen Elizabeth.

"Hey, first tell us what's going on in Alberta?"
Why I gave up on Global Research, some good stories but also a lot of lunatic fringe bullshit and misinformation. The article completely misrepresents the case, and there is no linkage between the case and Alberta's removal of anti-COVID measures. This was based on vaccination rates and a "whole health"(ie not just COVID) view of the situation which may or may not be proven correct.
Here is some actual news from the CBC (yes it is an imperialist propaganda outlet, but here they are just reporting scientific opinion and facts): "Experts note that the virus is now spreading faster in Alberta than during the pandemic's third wave ... The R-value, which represents the number of people infected by each infected person, was 1.48 (with a confidence interval of 1.38-1.59) in Alberta as of Sunday, according to Alberta Health."

14 - "what's going on in Alberta?"
Alberta is Canadian equivalent of a libertarian red state, and the covid protests there have been influenced by QAnon style suppositions. There is no reported direct correlation between the protester's subpoena and the provincial Health officer's relaxation of guidelines. The Liberty Beacon article in fact has little to no information at all.
However, the Health Officer's official apology and mea culpa is bizarre. It reads like she was put up to it by other politicians, and maybe she should have just resigned instead:
https://calgaryherald.com/opinion/columnists/hinshaw-why-alberta-is-changing-its-health-care-response-to-covid-19
"I care deeply about the health of all Albertans. This means I have to constantly consider not just COVID-19 but all the other threats to people’s health. The majority of our public health resources have been directed at the COVID-19 response, as has been necessary. That has come at the cost of not fully working on other threats, like syphilis and opioid deaths." Syphilis?
"We will not eliminate COVID, which means we need to learn how to live with it."
This is the clearest expression of the capitalist West's position that the virus can only be mitigated and not eradicated, with an over-emphasized reliance on the vaccines. Hello mandated booster shots and jabs for kids for the foreseeable future.

one can't help but think yahoo kenney was instrumental in the flip flop..
wish the dude would move to the usa where his values seem more in sync but it is still a free world, supposedly..
"Kenney supported the 2003 invasion of Iraq and suggested that the Chrétien government's refusal to support the war would damage Canada's relationship with the United States."
"On February 6, 2006, Kenney was appointed, along with Sylvie Boucher, as one of two Parliamentary Secretaries to the Prime Minister, Stephen Harper. That August, when two opposition MPs suggested removing Hezbollah from Canada's list of terrorist organizations, Kenney came under fire for comparing the organization to the Nazi Party.[16] Later, he rebuked Prime Minister of Lebanon Fuad Saniora for Saniora's criticisms of Canada, invoking the $25 million CAD that the country received from Canada in reconstructive assistance during the 2006 Lebanon War."
he's a right wing nut case ideologue..

Not off hand but I recall that during the Soviet occupation of Afganistan heroin use in Pakistan was off the charts presumably because the Empires Muslim freedom fighters were using it to fund operations with the Empires help. I am sure the rest of the region suffered the same fate to a degree.
That may explain why the Taliban took a hard stand against heroin when they took the country over back in those days. Mainly to cut off funding of their enemies heroin supplies and its drug trafficking networks.

Not altogether factual filmmaker Ken Burns calls Facebook's Zuckerberg "Enemy of state":
"'This is an enemy of the state, and I mean the United States of America. He doesn’t give a sh*t about us, the United States,' he said as quoted by Fox News.
"'He knows he can transcend it. He can get away to any place. And so it’s just about filthy lucre, that’s it.'
"Burns also slammed Sheryl Sandberg, Facebook Chief Operating Officer, saying: 'Because these people — and Sheryl is complicit — the Nuremberg of this, is if it ever happens, which it won’t, will be pretty interesting.'"
No further info regarding the reference to Nuremberg, but I'm certain he was referring to the War Crimes Trials and the Law established by them. But what about the misinformation and lies within Burns's recent film about Vietnam? What do they make him? Is this a case of the pot calling the kettle black?
@ Roger (#20), good points. Thanks.
Here is a detailed overview of the economics of British Imperialism. It is from 2011, provides insights that are valid even now and just shows the Stockholm syndrome of nations.
“Two factors stand out: Britain is extremely dependent on the revenues from financial services trading and direct investment. The British state’s promotion of the financial sector, especially from the 1980s, built on its existing advantages in the world economy, and the City of London became the broker of the world. Its financial dealings draw in the money and investment funds of the whole planet, from which it derives dealing revenues, and they provide the funds for the outflow of British direct investment to exploit higher profits from overseas. This has allowed Britain to receive a net income from foreign investments despite being a net debtor to the rest of the world. Such a position is shared with only one other country, the US, which operates in a similar fashion.”
Nations need to cutoff the flow of funds to the City-Britain, to end their imperialism and enslavement.

In Schwartz’s study, some 89 eligible volunteers over the age of 18 who were diagnosed with coronavirus and staying in state-run COVID-19 hotels were divided into two groups: 50% received ivermectin, and 50% received a placebo, according to their weight. They were given the pills for three days in a row, an hour before a meal.
The volunteers were tested using a standard nasopharyngeal swab PCR test with the goal of evaluating whether there was a reduction in viral load by the sixth day – the third day after termination of the treatment. They were swabbed every two days.Nearly 72% of volunteers treated with ivermectin tested negative for the virus by day six. In contrast, only 50% of those who received the placebo tested negative.
IN ADDITION, the study looked at culture viability, meaning how infectious the patients were, and found that only 13% of ivermectin patients were infectious after six days, compared with 50% of the placebo group – almost four times as many.
“Our study shows first and foremost that ivermectin has antiviral activity,” Schwartz said. “It also shows that there is almost a 100% chance that a person will be noninfectious in four to six days, which could lead to shortening isolation time for these people. This could have a huge economic and social impact.”
The study appeared on the MedRxiv health-research sharing site. It has not yet been peer reviewed.
Schwartz said other similar studies – though not all of them conducted to the same double-blind and placebo standards as his – also showed a favorable impact of ivermectin treatment.

California lockdown watch: COVID hospitalization and case rates continue to climb: Imgur image of California Dept of Health data
Note that while the starting points for both ICU and non-ICU numbers were far lower than the mini-spike in the summer of 2020, the non-ICU numbers today are getting up to the summer 2020 starting point levels. ICU hospitalizations doubled just in the last 2 days.
All this even as "full opening" is more or less on the menu - mitigated only by the return of "mask mandates" in some areas.
And of course, the backdrop is Gavin Newsom's recall election on September 14.
A week ago, it looked close but with the recall failing.
Today, it seems the recall will succeed: SF Chronicle saying Newsom losing
The poll came from Survey USA and the San Diego Union Tribune, and was conducted among 1,100 Californians from Aug. 2 to Aug. 4. It found that 51% of respondents were in favor of recalling Newsom, while only 40% wanted to keep him in power. The previous Survey USA/San Diego Union Tribune poll from May found 36% in favor of the recall with 47% opposed.

Patrick Armstrong reviews the Ukrainian situation:
"Seven years later, Ukraine is a mess – I can think of no better illustration than this fact from Ukraine Business News [Link at original]:
"Remittances by Ukraine’s labor migrants is forecast to reach $13.3 billion this year – 11% higher than the $12 billion recorded in 2019 and 2020. Labor is expected to remain above metals this year as Ukraine’s second largest export, after food....
"Polling shows [Link at Original] the overwhelming majority of Ukrainians regard the present situation as bad and a third expect it to get worse. Worse off in every respect. Food, remittances, Russian gas transit fees, IMF loans: not much of an economy there.
"Nuland’s 'justice', 'human dignity' and 'return to economic health' were just words: the school tender reveals Washington’s real interests....
"So, altogether, one can make the argument that Washington’s 'Ukrainian Gambit' has failed in its intent – Russia has been hurt, but not nearly as much as the planners hoped. But then, what can one expect when the USA is run by people who say Russia makes nothing and its economy is nothing but nuclear weapons and oil? (The last said, incidentally, in the very week a Russian-made module docked at the ISS.) No surprise that they were wrong again; and, with the same people back, they will be wronger still."
And as is usual for any Armstrong piece, it's peppered with links to back/illustrate his reporting. With about half of Ukraine agreeing with Putin's essay about the links between Russians and Ukrainians, at some future point the non-Russians will cede the field. If NATO seriously tries to use Ukrainians as cannon fodder against Russia, it will ignite a genuine Civil War and NATO will end up the big loser. IMO, by 2030 this will be sorted out in Russia's favor, and the EU will become crisis-ridden.
US arms sales sound death knell for Taiwan authorities: Global Times editorial
The Pentagon said on Wednesday that the US State Department approved the potential sale of 40 155mm M109A6 Medium Self-Propelled Howitzer artillery systems to the island of Taiwan in a deal worth up to $750 million, according to Reuters. It was the first major arms sale announced since US President Joe Biden took office. Furthermore, Japanese Defense Minister Nobuo Kishi said on Tuesday that Japan was hoping to deploy anti-aircraft and anti-ship missile units to Ishigaki - just 185 miles from Taiwan, Newsweek reported. Japanese media said such deployment involves the deterrence of Japan's Self-defense Forces to help defend Taiwan. The M109A6 self-propelled howitzer system is said to be second only to the US military's latest M109A7 system, with a range of 24 to 40 kilometers and a launch preparation time of about one minute. The armed forces in the island of Taiwan hope that the addition of these self-propelled howitzers will increase their anti-landing capabilities and deter the People's Liberation Army (PLA).
How cute: Taiwan thinks it will be able to target practice on Mainland aircraft and warships, sucking the PLA dry while imposing on it heavy losses and a Vietnam-like quagmire, while, in reality, what would happen is the Mainland would simply flatten the entire Taiwanese territory with missiles fired from land before what would essentially be a naval parade to the rebel island (or whatever is left of it).
The age of the bloody and gruesome amphibious invasions is over, at least in such a large scale. The new missile technologies ensured that.
I have now read in a couple of places that Trump was given Ivermectin when he was in Walter Reed Hospital and it improved his condition..
Think about what that says about the elite and our top/bottom world that the lies are so thick and anti-humanistic.....
This shit show can't end soon enough for me....

It seems clear that what awaits Ukraine is Latvia: 30% of population leaves to perform menial labor in the EU - mostly young people.
Rest left to rot with European banksters foreclosing on houses left and right.
Not so clear about 2030. Georgia also went this route, earlier, and shows no signs of "giving up".

I should add to my post that the sequence of events I describe at 39 suggests that synthetic immunity replaces the body's natural immunity, so that the next virus encountered can be successfully so encountered. The problem is that the synthetic vaccine wears off, as we are seeing now, and then the body may be exposed to more serious consequences when it again encounters a virulent virus.

I've never really understood why "synthetic" immunity is worse than "natural" immunity.
Is it because the scale of "infection"? Severity? i.e. an actual infection means a lot more virions traipsing about, which presumably scales the extent of immunity "memory"?
Or is it some quality of the vaccine type? i.e. a killed virus more effective than a fragment vaccine such as the mRNA products?

Interesting.
The RIA FAN website has published a large, detailed investigation into a global cross-border network of "opposition" media that have central control, funding and political backing. These mutually complementary media structures are undermining the situation in the post-Soviet space, receiving money from the governments of the Western countries (the Netherlands, the USA, the Czech Republic) and the George Soros funds. In many ways, the goal is to create and promote an extremely negative image of Russia.
This global structure/project is called "Obmen" ("Exchange"). Today the geography of the project covers 14 countries, and by 2023 the network should cover all continents.
The large article contains an abundance of information, photographs, images. I recommend taking a google translator, taking the time and reading the entire article.

mRNA vaccines do work. The problem is that they're insanely more expensive to produce and distribute (to the point they're not viable in Third World countries) and they're not more, but less effective against new variants (i.e. they're more, not less, virus-specific) than the old-school vaccines. They also appear to give a shorter immunity, but that's not certain yet.

Yeah, they're not exactly scholarly in terms of following the conventions of scientific writing - they do a little more advocacy towards the end than I'd like - but they try to be fair about it. They even cite the Addendum to Zhou 2020. That's the paper that says they retested the miners' samples, this time for SARS-CoV-2, and didn't find it, thus concluding that the miners didn't have SARS-CoV-2.
The catch is that the ones who did the retesting are Zheng Li-shi's team, who are, to put kindly, invested in discrediting alternative explanations that might put them in a bad light. But even if there was no skulduggery involved, they're disingenuous: the miners didn't have SARS-CoV-2 exactly, but an ancestor virus that was in the process of evolving, and as such it's well possible that it wasn't recognised by the antibodies used in their ELISA kit.
I don't think we'll ever know the truth of the matter. What I hoped people would take out of this story is that it's absurd to keep BSL-4 labs in a 11-million inhabitant city like Wuhan - or in large cities like Atlanta or Lyon, for that matter, I'm not saying China is the only country doing it wrong. For an example of a country that does it right, I can think of Denmark, whose BSL-4 lab is in an island with no permanent inhabitants.

Re: possible China Taiwan war and "invasion" - it is not likely to happen, as it is illogical.
China considers people there Chinese, they will treat them with gloves. So no invasion. But naval blockade is strong possibility (not of all cargoes and not from everyone, just weapons from US etc.). Of course, after China denies seas around to hostile nations, which may become bloody affair. Japan, along with US, will be particularly targeted.
And, if Taiwanese government really becomes hostile, I expect few surgical strikes at them - their command centers and bunkers, only at the key people. Ordinary people will not be targeted. China wan't Taiwan to come home, not to make enemy of its populace - which, in significant part, have strong sympathies towards mainland anyway (guess they too don't like being LGBT+ converted, like the rest of the world).

I know most barflies have given up on the UN, but it remains the only international platform agreed upon by almost every nation. Here's "Russia's position at the seventy-sixth session of the UN General Assembly", with point #1 being almost self-evident:
"The goal of the 76-th session of the UN General Assembly (GA) is to reaffirm the central and coordinating role of the Organization in international affairs. Owing to its representativeness and universality, the UN is rightfully viewed as a unique platform for an equitable dialogue aimed at reaching compromise solutions with due regard to different opinions. Attempts to undermine the authority and legitimacy of the UN are, in our view, extremely dangerous, as they can lead to the dismantlement of the multipolar system of international relations." [Emphasis Original]
I'd also emphasize " Attempts to undermine the authority and legitimacy of the UN are, in our view, extremely dangerous, as they can lead to the dismantlement of the multipolar system of international relations."
It's a long list consisting of 77 main points, which I've yet to review. If the past provides any guideline, the first point will guide all others.

"Lab Leak" advocate think their theory is elegant and easy to demonstrate, but that's far from the truth.
Just accusing this or that lab from being the origin of the virus is not enough. You would still have to explain the pattern of spread of the virus. Why blood samples in the American West Coast and Italy show people already were infected with the SARS-CoV-2 since at least October 2019? If the virus is a bioweapon, then why Italy? If China is behind this, why did the virus leaked in 2020 and not, say, in 2008, when damage done to capitalism would be much greater? If there was a false flag, why did it blew up in Wuhan, Central China, instead of somewhere less harmful to the Chinese economy (e.g. Macau, which is an island, or Hong Kong, the keep of the liberals)?
So, as you can see, the lab leak theory doesn't simplify the situation for us. We would still have to find patient zero. We would still have to explain all the patterns of spreading of the virus. If this was an accident, we would still have to explain and demonstrate the entire due diligence of process that led to it (unless you think the Chinese people don't deserve to be treated to the rule of law?). That alone would also take at least one decade to prove.
The lab leak theory is one of those hypothesis that seem genial at first glance, but is actually very stupid.
@43 c1ue
"Quality" is the right word. During the course of developing natural immunity, your immune system has been presented with the complete pathogen. Perhaps only part of the pathogen is used to code the respone, or, more likely many different aspects are encoded.

Of course the Lab theory, whether purposeful or accidental, would still need to be proved out by evidence. But then so does the natural evolution theory ... and the evidence for the latter seems to be very problematic despite absolutely heroic research by Chinese scientists.
The theory as described in the article fits Occam's Razor's test of efficiently meeting the known facts. New facts can always change that of course; but for now, calling the concept "very stupid" is sign of either a closed mind or a shill.

How's the natural selection theory problematic? We already have the bat virus, we already have another intermediary (pangolin). Essentially, what we have left to do is find the last intermediary (which is probably a rodent). The whole thing is being investigated and discoveries are being made - you just don't read about it because you don't search it, you already convinced yourself the virus came from a lab.
We only know about the bat virus because the Chinese thought about the natural selection theory first. Without it, we wouldn't even know this now common knowledge. In fact, the lab leak theorists stole this discovery to put the blame on Wuhan.

@vk #59
Forgive me, but I'm not trying to apportion blame to anyone - or rather, I don't think China would be so stupid to unleash a virus that would cause its own economy to grind to a halt for a couple months.
Yes, I'm curious about the Italian and French samples. Could they be from asymptomatic patients, which make up to a fifth of cases? Could it be a cross-reactive coronavirus from clade 2? Abortive leap events are not uncommon, avian flu leaps into people every now and then but it hasn't evolved to spread quickly yet. One of the French early cases was a person who worked with someone who was from China, if memory serves.
The thing is, those samples, which the essay I posted did mention (it's not a peer-reviewed scientific paper, just a thoughtful putting together of evidence by people doing what they want with their skills and free time, not unlike Gordog here about missiles), do not invalidate the theory they advance, nor do they make the view some Chinese spouse of something imported from the West a smoking gun. Wuhan is a major international airflight hub. And Europe in 2019 (or any other year, to be honest) was full of Chinese tourists. I happened to be there around the time the virus is calculated to have started spreading in China, and it was Chinese tourists everywhere.
Like I said, the only thing that would make this discussion relevant to me is if BSL-4 research (I say that as someone with BSL-3 training) were deemed dangerous enough to be carried out only in facilities distant from major transportation hubs (at the very least).
Countries and people screw up. China has all the right to do all in its power to save face if it's true that there was a lab leak. It's what every sovereign country would do. A lab leak from Fort Detrick, or from the Vector Institute in Russia, or from the Institut Mérieux in Lyon, or heck, from the LANAGRO in Pedro Leopoldo (I'm a fellow-countryman of yours) should lead to an improvement of procedures and some soul-searching by the people in charge - not a finger-pointing in diplomatic circles, or a propaganda stunt. Zheng Li-shi learned her trade from Ralph Baric in Maryland. There are no saints in this story.
Because you know - this won't be the last pandemic. But I'd love it if we did all in our power to minimise human mistakes as a factor in ushering in the next one.

You can conjecture how much you want, but, at the end of the day, you have to go to the field and investigate. Do what Dilyana Gaytandzhieva did. Otherwise, you put yourself at the mercy of whatever forged "intelligence" the Biden-requested CIA report comes out.
That's the problem with the lab leak theorists. They don't want to investigate their hypothesis - they're just preparing the terrain for a fake news by the CIA to be more easily swallowed by the Western masses.
@vk #67
I cannot go to the WIV and investigate their samples, can I? Or to the Mojiang Mine, for that matter. That's what I mean with the truth of the matter never emerging - China is sovereign, they won't allow an international team to perform random searches in their territory. Just like Israel doesn't allow inspections of the Dimona reactor. And that's perfectly understandable, in my opinion.
You're right, investigating is what we have to do (by "we", I mean people who can do something about it). If you don't think what the essay I posted is the best someone who cannot deploy a field team of virologists in Yunnan can get from indirect evidence, maybe you have something else to suggest?
I take it you favour the theory that SARS-CoV-2 was causing small outbreaks in the West before it got to Wuhan. That might be true. In that case, I suppose the phylogeographic analysis will have to be redone with the genomic sequences from European samples. The Founder Effect indicates that biodiversity is greater towards the source of a species. That's why Mexico has so many different types of maize. Yunnan has the highest diversity of sequences of clade 2 coronaviruses, based on the samples in the literature. Does that change if we feed the "early outbreaks" samples into the analysis? Does the centre of diversity shift towards Europe? Are there any outliers that invalidate the Yunnan hypothesis, like an environmental sample highly similar to SARS-CoV-2 from outside Yunnan, as the essay suggests? The problem is that the European samples are from humans or sewage, so not truly environmental - and there are no horseshoe bats in Europe that I know of.
Is all conjecturing idle? Well, it's all we can do when there isn't unimpeded access to data. The one thing that seems worthwhile to me in trying to squeeze what we can from indirect evidence is that if the lab leak hypothesis happens to be credible and at least reaches the ears of policy makers in China and elsewhere - I don't give a damn about the hullabaloo in the media -, then someone might decide to move a BSL-4 to a hamlet in the countryside, like the Spiez Laboratory in Switzerland. Of course, if in the end the natural leap hypothesis remains the best one, then so be it, the data are what they are, but nobody will conclude better procedures are warranted in BSL-4 lab management, which is a pity. That's the only reason why I'd like conjecturing to be refuted so long as it makes sense.

@ the tag teaming counterfluffers
Since you guys' assignment is relatively recent, you're probably not aware of the fact that Baric et al.'s 2015 Nature Medicine paper was discussed extensively on MoA in the early months of 2020. The Qanon types "discovered" it only much later and you Blueanons are last in line. Curiously, both disinfo groups have failed to notice some significant facts that are prominent in the paper. Here, at the MoA, more than a year ago, we did not miss the obvious.
Anyone who actually read the paper (it is open access) cannot fail to notice that the WIV involvement was minimal and rather innocuous. Zheng Li-shi provided Baric and his team with genetic samples of wild-type bat coronavirus (not infectious to man), which Baric promptly spliced onto the dangerous SARS-COV using materials he had obtained from his USAMRIID buddies at Ft. Detrick (check the damn paper already). The contribution of the other WIV related "co-author" was some pseudotype testing on the Frankenstein SARS virus that Baric had created at the UNC Chapel Hill BSL-3 lab.
From just the above, we can conclude the following:
1. Ralph Baric created a Frankenstein virus at UNC Chapel Hill. The WIV involvement was peripheral and innocuous;
2. The facilities that Baric claims to have used were all BSL-3 grade, not BSL-4.
I'd like to focus a bit on the latter point. Since both the Trumpist Chyynna!! bullshitters and now you two invoke the "BSL-4" meme, that makes a curious parallel, given the fact that Baric did the actual dangerous and questionable gain of function research on the dangerous SARS coronavirus in a BSL-3 grade lab (read the damn paper already!). The admission by "Tycho" of having had BSL-3 training is noteworthy and in light of what is stipulated in this paragraph only serves to put "Tycho" in a suspicious light. You disinfo guys need to get your act straight if you want to be your money's worth.
I could go on picking apart Baric' paper and the counterfluffers' misrepresentations, but instead I find it much more opportune to point out again that COVID is EVALI. You guys dare not touch that one with a three mile pole, obviously.
And apart from what I mentioned upthread, there is more, much more, that has been discussed at the MoA many times before these counterfluffers showed up in this thread.
The histological data pointing out that more than 1.1% of US blood donors in Dec 2019 - Jan 2020 having antibodies specific to SARS-COV-2 (that implies statistically about 4 million americans.)
The initial European clusters in the spring of 2020 in many instances were noticeably close to major NATO bases, and not to sites typically visited by Chinese tourists.
The Wuhan outbreak was subsequent to the 2019 Wuhan Military World Games, in which the US athletes performance was unusually and even exceptionally bad. The Chinese pointed to the hotel inwhichnthe US team had stayed as an early source of infections, much more so than the much maligned "wet market".
There is much more than that, but why should I iterate over it when you simply refuse to respond to the glaring EVALI problem?
PS please tell me why should I even bother to read your counterfluff (a site with a credibilty rating below even zerohedge) piece when you are obviously too lame to actually read my initial response to you?
PS2 don't bother with vk, nobody here does.

c1ue @ 43 I was just reading comments at the Saker site, on his post'Iran and the Covid Pandemic' and poster 'the farmer from NZ'(I promise I am not biased) put forward the following extract giving a partial answer to your difficulty:
Results of the study: COVID-19 vaccines designed to elicit neutralising antibodies may sensitize vaccine recipients to more severe disease than if they were not vaccinated. Vaccines for SARS, MERS and RSV have never been approved, and the data generated in the development and testing of these vaccines suggest a serious mechanistic concern: that vaccines designed empirically using the traditional approach (consisting of the unmodified or minimally modified coronavirus viral spike to elicit neutralising antibodies), be they composed of protein, viral vector, DNA or RNA and irrespective of delivery method, may worsen COVID-19 disease via antibody-dependent enhancement (ADE). This risk is sufficiently obscured in clinical trial protocols and consent forms for ongoing COVID-19 vaccine trials that adequate patient comprehension of this risk is unlikely to occur, obviating truly informed consent by subjects in these trials. Conclusions drawn from the study and clinical implications: The specific and significant COVID-19 risk of ADE should have been and should be prominently and independently disclosed to research subjects currently in vaccine trials, as well as those being recruited for the trials and future patients after vaccine approval, in order to meet the medical ethics standard of patient comprehension for informed consent.”
[I started to bold the first segment of this extract, then realized it all should be in bold - sorry not to have the link, but perhaps others can locate it.]

Currently less than 3% market share for EV's in the US, mostly Teslas, and "Biden’s order is nonbinding". The US market religion and corruption will always screw up any attempt for the US to catch up, they will instead continue to fall behind.

The description you attached doesn't include any actual mechanisms for why ADE may arise.
Nor am I particularly convinced that ADE is real given that vaccines have now been given the hundreds of millions of people - many tens of thousands or hundreds of thousands of which have gotten COVID.
If ADE is both real and a common issue, we should be seeing much higher numbers of deaths vs. "normal" COVID - this is clearly not the case.
All data I have seen to date shows that the vaccines reduce the chance of hospitalization/death by maybe 50%.
Furthermore, ADE is not the same as what I was referring to. ADE appears to be some mechanism by which the negative results from getting COVID are worsened due to the vaccination.
What I had wondered about is why the duration of protection (whatever that might actually be) is shorter for vaccination vs. having had COVID.
Posted by: c1ue | Aug 6 2021 1:42 utc | 77
Further on your comment difficulty, c1ue, I would observe that since the efficacy of the vaccine is being shown to be not long lasting, it wouldn't be a stretch to assume the immunity connected to it also have a shorter life span. And the animal studies that were referred to in the trials mentioned in my original post did produce the alarming result that further exposure to the virus caused death of the test subjects. This would have been why no vaccines were produced for SARS, etc. as claimed in the extract at 75. Further trials on humans could not proceed, given this stark result.
I just think this is very worrying. I am not a scientist, just going by what is being said here. And as the extract above says, those who have taken the vaccines should have been made aware of the ADE problem. (I don't know if they have been, as I am not among them.)

Not coincidence, synchronicity. In this age, the plateau is rising. Thanks to you both - book on list.

I have it on my list also to dive into that wondrous archive that, miraculously, the Graun is pursuing. What a trove. But I am always behind everyone else, I have no time - so anything you gentlemen have time to speak about would be wonderful to hear, and would not fall on deaf ears.

@48 Lochearn
So b is 10% wrong, and you have been 10% stupid?
Everything I read is 85% perfect. I myself try for 100% and probably I'm lucky if it comes out at 80%.
Or rather, the readers are lucky, because it's not about me. It's not about you. It's not about b. It's about making sense, and hashing it out between us.
If the Reset comes, we will need all hands on deck. Don't walk away and miss MoA, stay here and comment here. I always regarded your words as substantive. I would miss you, and there seems no need for this.

Thank you for this interview. I'm only a few minutes in so far, but yes, Mate is a journalist for sure, and that is always a pleasure. And Cuba is so important in the true meaning of the degradation of the United States. It is the difference between real strength and true weakness.
Does the US smell blood, now that the Castro mojo is gone from the power - or so they think? Cuba must re-choose its revolution without that magic hex, and purely from social sanity, and from its own magic. I have great hope for this blessed island, that it will outlive the big land to the west.

It's not just about China's 4th Army Branch aka the Artillery Army sophisticated weaponry but also the enemy within Taiwan border. There are only two scenario that leads to invasion of the island: 1) pre-emptive invasion by the PRC, which is highly unlikely because they have stressed over and over again for a peaceful reunification, which means that leads to 2) Separatist action by hardline separatist like declaring independence or/and allows US troops to be stationed there. Only the second situation is most likely but in that case the ROC army wouldn't even fight the PLA and staged a coup even to prevent it. For all the fault of KMT and Chiang Kai-sek, the ROC Army is consisted of Chinese nationalist who view the cross straits relationship as domestic matters, no "Two Chinas/One PRC, One Taiwan" nonsense allowed.

This just show how pathetic the US have become. China's policy in promoting EV is all encompassing, providing subsidies and remittances to both manufacturer and purchaser alike, and all what Biden do is giving nonbinding orders to US car makers? What a joke, and we know how much of a fraud Tesla is and it's the US biggest EV carmaker.

Unvaccinated - 165
Fully vaccinated (2 doses)- 224
Partial vaccinated (1 dose)- 65
Government spin is that a greater % of population is now vaccinated

Just a reminder: Today is the 76th anniversary of the Hiroshima nuclear attack.
People are of course free to believe that event and the Nagasaki event 3 days later are the only ones in history.

@Lurk 70
don't bother trying to argue with the likes of vk about COVID. if one believes COVID is natural, then evidence is irrelevant.
i don't assume anything until it is denied by the (most) government(s). since 'everyone' is denying that it cannot possibly be biowarfare then i have to assume that it is...i'm naturally (zoonotically) contrary.

Well, whatever it is, I believe in it. Sometimes it borders on relying on it. It's amazing how many problems will just fix themselves if you ignore them long enough. Problems create their own solutions. Then, in a while, you have to fix the solutions too.
This is why I don't like bullies and authoritarian people, most of the time they don't really know what they are doing. The world is a much more annoying place because of their "fixes".

Many will have heard of protests in Malaysia within the last week or so, I came across a video covering the (not so) surprising details of the funding sources for some of the groups involved. Although I only just found the youtube channel, it has 38k followers, so maybe this is old news. The quality of the commentary seems reasonable.

Cuba
Grieved you probably have finished the interview with Italian professor piero gleijeses and Aaron Mate by now... the heroic fighting spirit of Fidel and Raul Castro along with the Cuban people is awe inspiring: they constantly stood up to the U.S. for decades AND went to Angola and Namibia in the 1970s, sending doctors and fighters to beat the U.S. and apartheid South Africa which, according to Mandela, had a direct impact on the overthrow of the Apartheid regime. Professor Gleijeses is not optimistic, however, as he ended with some sobering thoughts on the horrific impact of the U.S.blockade: Biden smells blood and he's a trained killer.
Cubans are still fighting Biden's war on them. Here's an eye witness account of #soscuba from a Cuban Canadian who talks about the rabble rousers.
"Most of the protesters were those who choose to be unemployed and live off remittances from family living abroad. Many are well-known delinquents and are not positive contributors to the community. We personally know of the woman and her husband who created a widely circulated and entirely fake video – using pig’s blood and tomato sauce – of a Cuban police officer shooting their child. The couple confessed to being offered “Moneda Libremente Convertible” (MLC, meaning freely convertible money rather than Cuban pesos) from someone in the United States to do this. Another individual, who was also offered money to participate in the Cárdenas protest, created a staged video and has a history in town of running an illegal, unlicensed business and not paying taxes."

Show us the scraps from the drones that struck the tanker in the middle east a few days ago.
Were the scraps made in israel or Iran?
Why didn't the UAE or USA or anyone else notice how the reported hijackers of another tanker get on or of the tanker?
Why has the Western media not mentioned that Iran now has a warship 25% larger than the largest US warship, not only carrying aircraft but also a fleet of 4 submarines in a 'moon bay'?
