This article gives a good overview of the way NGOs have been used since 2000, specifically detailing the current plan to do a “color revolution” in Nicaragua. very important, IMO. Long post and I ask b to pardon my excess. I think we should reflect carefully on this history as the jackals depart.
May there be PEACE in Afghanistan for its people’s sake.
I went searching for a snapshot history of Afghanistan over the past century (approximately) here is my progress for now and I will fill the 2014 to 2021 period shortly after tending the orchard.
Afghanistan 1947 to 2014 (source PBS December 2014)…
1947 – Britain withdraws from India, creating the predominantly Hindu but secular state of India and the Islamic state of Pakistan. The nation of Pakistan includes a long, largely uncontrollable, border with Afghanistan.
1953 – The pro-Soviet Gen. Mohammed Daoud Khan, cousin of the king, becomes prime minister and looks to the communist nation for economic and military assistance. He also introduces a number of social reforms including allowing women a more public presence.
1956 – Soviet Premier Nikita Khrushchev agrees to help Afghanistan, and the two countries become close allies.
1957 – As part of Daoud’s reforms, women are allowed to attend university and enter the workforce.
1965 – The Afghan Communist Party secretly forms. The group’s principal leaders are Babrak Karmal and Nur Mohammad Taraki.
1973 – Khan overthrows the last king, Mohammed Zahir Shah, in a military coup. Khan’s regime, the People’s Democratic Party of Afghanistan, comes to power. Khan abolishes the monarchy and names himself president. The Republic of Afghanistan is established with firm ties to the USSR.
1975-1977 – Khan proposes a new constitution that grants women rights and works to modernize the largely communist state. He also cracks down on opponents, forcing many suspected of not supporting Khan out of the government.
1978 – Khan is killed in a communist coup. Nur Mohammad Taraki, one of the founding members of the Afghan Communist Party, takes control of the country as president, and Babrak Karmal is named deputy prime minister. They proclaim independence from Soviet influence, and declare their policies to be based on Islamic principles, Afghan nationalism and socioeconomic justice. Taraki signs a friendship treaty with the Soviet Union. But a rivalry between Taraki and Hafizullah Amin, another influential communist leader, leads to fighting between the two sides.
At the same time, conservative Islamic and ethnic leaders who objected to social changes introduced by Khan begin an armed revolt in the countryside. In June, the guerrilla movement Mujahadeen is created to battle the Soviet-backed government.
1979 – American Ambassador Adolph Dubs is killed. The United States cuts off assistance to Afghanistan. A power struggle between Taraki and Deputy Prime Minister Hafizullah Amin begins. Taraki is killed on Sept. 14 in a confrontation with Amin supporters.
The USSR invades Afghanistan on Dec. 24 to bolster the faltering communist regime. On Dec. 27, Amin and many of his followers are executed. Deputy Prime Minister Babrak Karmal becomes prime minister. Widespread opposition to Karmal and the Soviets spawns violent public demonstrations.
By early 1980, the Mujahadeen rebels have united against Soviet invaders and the USSR-backed Afghan Army.
1982 – Some 2.8 million Afghans have fled from the war to Pakistan, and another 1.5 million have fled to Iran. Afghan guerrillas gain control of rural areas, and Soviet troops hold urban areas.
1984 – Although he claims to have traveled to Afghanistan immediately after the Soviet invasion, Saudi Islamist Osama bin Laden makes his first documented trip to Afghanistan to aid anti-Soviet fighters.
The United Nations investigates reported human rights violations in Afghanistan.
1986 – The Mujahadeen are receiving arms from the United States, Britain and China via Pakistan.
1988 – In September, Osama bin Laden and 15 other Islamists form the group al-Qaida, or “the base”, to continue their jihad, or holy war, against the Soviets and other who they say oppose their goal of a pure nation governed by Islam. With their belief that the Soviet’s faltering war in Afghanistan was directly attributable to their fighting, they claim victory in their first battle, but also begin to shift their focus to America, saying the remaining superpower is the main obstacle to the establishment of a state based on Islam.
1989 – The U.S., Pakistan, Afghanistan, and the Soviet Union sign peace accords in Geneva guaranteeing Afghan independence and the withdrawal of 100,000 Soviet troops. Following Soviet withdrawal, the Mujahadeen continue their resistance against the Soviet-backed regime of communist president Dr. Mohammad Najibullah, who had been elected president of the puppet Soviet state in 1986. Afghan guerrillas name Sibhatullah Mojadidi as head of their exiled government.
1992 – The Mujahadeen and other rebel groups, with the aid of turncoat government troops, storm the capital, Kabul, and oust Najibullah from power. Ahmad Shah Masood, legendary guerrilla leader, leads the troops into the capital. The United Nations offers protection to Najibullah. The Mujahadeen, a group already beginning to fracture as warlords fight over the future of Afghanistan, form a largely Islamic state with professor Burhannudin Rabbani as president.
1995 – Newly formed Islamic militia, the Taliban, rises to power on promises of peace. Most Afghans, exhausted by years of drought, famine and war, approve of the Taliban for upholding traditional Islamic values. The Taliban outlaw cultivation of poppies for the opium trade, crack down on crime, and curtail the education and employment of women. Women are required to be fully veiled and are not allowed outside alone. Islamic law is enforced via public executions and amputations. The United States refuses to recognize the authority of the Taliban.
1995-1999 – Continuing drought devastates farmers and makes many rural areas uninhabitable. More than 1 million Afghans flee to neighboring Pakistan, where they languish in squalid refugee camps.
1997 – The Taliban publicly executes Najibullah. Ethnic groups in the north, under Masood’s Northern Alliance, and the south, aided in part by Hamid Karzai, continue to battle the Taliban for control of the country.
1998 – Following al-Qaida’s bombings of two American embassies in Africa, President Clinton orders cruise missile attacks against bin Laden’s training camps in Afghanistan. The attacks miss the Saudi and other leaders of the terrorist group.
2000 – By now considered an international terrorist, bin Laden is widely believed to be hiding in Afghanistan, where he is cultivating thousands of followers in terrorist training camps. The United States demands that bin Laden be extradited to stand trial for the embassy bombings. The Taliban decline to extradite him. The United Nations punishes Afghanistan with sanctions restricting trade and economic development.
March 2001 – Ignoring international protests, the Taliban carry out their threat to destroy Buddhist statues in Bamiyan, Afghanistan, saying they are an affront to Islam.
Sept. 4, 2001 – A month after arresting them, the Taliban put eight international aid workers on trial for spreading Christianity. Under Taliban rule, proselytizing is punishable by death. The group is held in various Afghan prisons for months and finally released Nov. 15.
Sept. 9, 2001 – Masood, still head of the Northern Alliance and the nation’s top insurgent, is killed by assassins posing as journalists.
Sept. 11, 2001 – Hijackers commandeer four commercial airplanes and crash them into the World Trade Center Towers in New York, the Pentagon outside Washington, D.C., and a Pennsylvania field, killing thousands. Days later, U.S. officials say bin Laden, the Saudi exile believed to be hiding in Afghanistan, is the prime suspect in the attack.
Oct. 7, 2001 – Following unanswered demands that the Taliban turn over bin Laden, U.S. and British forces launch airstrikes against targets in Afghanistan. American warplanes start to bomb Taliban targets and bases reportedly belonging to the al-Qaida network. The Taliban proclaim they are ready for jihad.
Nov. 13, 2001 – After weeks of intense fighting with Taliban troops, the Northern Alliance enters Kabul. The retreating Taliban flee southward toward Kandahar.
Dec. 7, 2001 – Taliban fighters abandon their final stronghold in Kandahar as the militia group’s hold on Afghanistan continues to disintegrate. Two days later, Taliban leaders surrender the group’s final Afghan territory, the province of Zabul. The move leads the Pakistan-based Afghan Islamic Press to declare “the rule of the Taliban in Afghanistan has totally ended.”
Dec. 22, 2001 – Hamid Karzai, a royalist and ethnic Pashtun, is sworn in as the leader of the interim government in Afghanistan. Karzai entered Afghanistan after living in exile for years in neighboring Pakistan. At the U.N.-sponsored conference to determine an interim government, Karzai already has the support of the United States and by the end of the conference is elected leader of the six-month government.
2002 – In June, the Loya Jirga, or grand council, elects U.S.-backed Hamid Karzai as interim leader. Karzai chooses the members of his government who will serve until 2004, when the government is required to organize elections.
2003 – Amid increased violence, NATO takes over security in Kabul in August. The effort is the security organization’s first-ever commitment outside of Europe.
January 2004 – The Loya Jirga adopts a new constitution following input from nearly 500,000 Afghans, some of whom participate in public meetings in villages. The new constitution calls for a president and two vice presidents, but the office of prime minister is removed at the last minute. The official languages, according to the constitution, are Pashto and Dari. Also, the new constitution calls for equality for women.
October 2004 – Presidential elections are held. More than 10.5 million Afghans register to vote and choose among 18 presidential candidates, including interim leader Karzai. Karzai is elected with 55 percent of the vote.
2005 – The nation holds its first parliamentary elections in more than 30 years. The peaceful vote leads to the parliament’s first meeting in December.
2006 – Amid continuing fighting between Taliban and al-Qaida fighters and the Afghan government forces, NATO expands its peacekeeping operation to the southern portion of the country. After the forces take over from American-led troops, Taliban fighters launch a bloody wave of suicide attacks and raids against the international troops.
2007 – The Afghan government and NATO confirm that Taliban commander Mullah Dadullah was killed during a U.S.-led operation in southern Afghanistan.
2008 – The international community pledges more than $15 billion in aid to Afghanistan at a donors’ conference in Paris, while Afghan President Hamid Karzai promises to fight corruption in the government.
2009 – President Barack Obama names Richard Holbrooke as a special envoy to Afghanistan and Pakistan. Mr. Obama announces a new strategy for the Afghanistan war that would dispatch more military and civilian trainers to the country, in addition to the 17,000 more combat troops he previously ordered. The strategy also includes assistance to Pakistan in its fight against militants.
2010 – President Barack Obama accepts Gen. Stanley McChrystal’s resignation as the top commander in Afghanistan, over critical comments he made in a Rolling Stone article, and nominates Gen. David Petraeus, head of U.S. Central Command, as his replacement.
2011 – U.S. forces overtake a compound in Abbottabad, Pakistan, and kill al-Qaida leader Osama bin Laden on May 2 local time.
2012 – President Hamid Karzai calls for American forces to leave Afghan villages and pull back to their bases after a U.S. soldier kills 16 Afghan civilians inside their homes.
2013 – The Afghan army takes over all military and security operations from NATO forces.
2014 – Ashraf Ghani becomes president of Afghanistan in September after two rounds of voting, claims of election fraud and a power-sharing agreement with main rival Abdullah Abdullah.
In December, NATO officially ends its combat mission in Afghanistan. U.S.-led NATO troops remain to train and advise Afghan forces.

The only thing I can say is that I am now more informed, and this is for all of us to see how little information is actually reported. I will go “informed” to my appointment. Among the reasons that pushed me is that at least now I can still chose between a number of vaccines, and I preferred the quickest one. Waiting would probably mean I would have at some point to either accept the one they would impose or accept not to travel anymore (since tests preliminary to travel are not free anymore).
It seems also that even viral vectors vaccines are entirely new, except for the fact it has been used against Ebola with some success (but the trials also described a number of adverse effects). And precisely, the one-shot vaccine is said to have been created on the same basis (again, correct me if I am wrong, as this is an obscure field). I also remember that someone here mentioned at the very beginning of the epidemy that he and some colleagues had been offered an experimental jab if they wanted to stay in KSA and continue their work rather than being repatriated. The Provisional Government has called for the US and UN to send send in their troops. The “street” were/are getting too close to imposing a variant of the Social “waves” from Venezuela, Cuba, and S. America.

There is a great store of knowledge among traditional people.[don’t tell BigPharma]. However, I don’t think you found the same book, my first edition hardback is 251 pages with multiple colour plates and B&W illustrations. The authors are C A Gardiner and H W Bennetts.
Perhaps your find is a copy like most cookbooks are reworking of ‘A guide To Modern Cookery’ by GA Escoffier, first published in 1907. My copy is the reset 15th edition 1957. I also recommend ‘Muslim Cooking in Pakistan’ for authentic curry.
I agree with you about missionaries, they tampered with both aboriginal minds and bodies. All the aboriginal people in East Arnhem land actually wanted in those days was missionaries from the Pacific Islands, rather than pimply bible banging freaks from Sydney and Melbourne dressed in shorts and long sox.Now they want their land and culture back and why not?

It is intuitively excellent has top viewing facility, always opens a selection in a new tab, no adverts at top of search, seems to not censor anything or down rate out of reach, especially bypasses the noisy trash, does not remember you. The screen shot of each find is high quality and you can peek into each find. I leave tab open all day and can go back to earlier searches upscreen as needed.

The problem is, where does it stop with vaccination. Israel has been reporting higher hospitalization among 0-4, meaning that the virus goes to whoever is not vaccinated. But you cannot vaccinate newborns, obviously.
So again, ppl who said a year ago that vaccines were not a magical stick and that doctors have to actually cure the patients (and labs work on real treatment) were right.

Here’s the basic understanding required: at a passenger jet’s cruising altitude of about 35,000 ft, the air is much thinner. Air density is only 30 percent of what it is at sea level.
This means the airplane faces much less air resistance, drag, as it flies through the air. But this also means the engines make a lot less power, since engine power is a function of air mass flow.
Since the mass of air is only 30 percent, the engine will only be making about 30 percent of the power it makes at sea level. Thrust is simply air mass flow [measured in kg or lb per second] TIMES the engine exhaust velocity.
Since the engine exhaust velocity stays the same, regardless of altitude, it is ONLY air mass flow that dictates how much power the engine makes!
So here are the numbers…a triple seven [dash 200 model] has a max takeoff weight of 545,000 lb. But it rarely takes off at that full weight, and nearly half the weight is fuel. It also takes a lot of fuel to climb to cruise altitude.
So let’s assume a cruising weight of about 450,000 lb. Each of the big GE90 turbofan engines is putting out 17,500 pounds of thrust at the normal cruise speed of Mach 0.83. This is 550 mph TRUE airspeed.
But the airspeed indicator will only show 284 knots [325 mph]. This is because of the less dense air.
Btw, the speed over the ground is the same as true airspeed, plus or minus any tailwind or headwind.
Now, it is a simple matter to calculate some important aerodynamic numbers. If we divide the weight by the thrust, we get the lift-to-drag ratio, which ends up at ~13.
This is also the ratio of coefficient of lift to coefficient of drag. We also know the aircraft wing area, which is ~4,600 square feet.
Another key is the dynamic pressure. This is what you feel when you stick your hand out the window when you are driving down the highway. This is also called ‘ram’ pressure and it increases by the SQUARE of speed. It is also a function of air density.
So the faster you go, and the greater the air density, the greater the air resistance, which is bound up in that number called dynamic pressure, or ‘Q.’
So now we have everything we need to analyze performance at different altitudes.
let’s remember first the basic flight equations: Thrust must equal drag, and wing lift must equal weight. This is for straight and level flight.
So obviously, since our two engines are putting out a total of 35,000 pounds of thrust, which we know from our flight manual. It means the drag must equal 35,000 pounds of drag.
Likewise our weight of 450,000 pounds must equal the wing lift of the same amount. We therefore have our lift to drag ratio of 450,000 divided by 35,000 = 12.86.
Now we bring the dynamic pressure into it, which is the air resistance for ANY object flying at this speed at this altitude. At cruise of 550 mph and 35,000 feet, the Q is 240 pounds per square foot.
At our speed of 509 mph at 3,000 ft [425 knots KCAS, which is the airplane redline speed], the Q is much higher obviously due to the higher air density. It works out to 605 lb/ft^2.
As already explained, this is a function of air density [although we are going slightly slower at 3,000 ft; but remember that at 35,000 ft we are nowhere near our redline airspeed—284 knots versus 425].
So the air density at 3,000 ft is 90 percent of that at sea level. Versus just 30 percent at 35,000 ft. It means we should have three times the engine power AT LEAST, because at cruise we are NOT at full power, only cruise power.
So since drag is a function of Q, the dynamic pressure, is only 2.5 times greater at 3,000 feet. But our engine power will be THREE times greater [0.3 vs 0.9 air density].
Plus we have even more power, since we have been using CRUISE thrust numbers here.
So yes, it is definitely possible to fly even faster than redline speed down low if we push the throttles all the way forward.
Of course, the air regulations do not permit a speed of greater than 250 knots indicated below 10,000 feet—we never actually get to try that out.
Even on test flights you are NOT going to be doing any fast flying low to the ground for obvious safety reasons. All test flying is done at higher altitudes so you can recover from any unforeseen problems.
Now that is the back of the envelope number.
Out of curiosity I did a more detailed number crunch on a spreadsheet, which I am not going to get into here in detail, and the amount of thrust to actually fly 509 mph [425 knots indicated, redline speed] at 3,000 ft is only about 55,000 pounds.
that’s more than 30,000 pounds less than simply multiplying our drag by the same ratio as the Q [dynamic pressure].
That simple calc, using just Q, shows it takes ~87,000 lb of thrust from the two engines. [605 / 240 = 2.5]
Btw, those engines are rated at about 90,000 pounds thrust at takeoff, EACH. But this decreases with forward speed due to technical factors I’m not going to get into here.
But the 55,000 lb of thrust required to fly 508 mph at 3,000 ft is a fairly accurate number.
This is because the drag does not simply go up by dynamic pressure alone.
There is also drag due to LIFT, which is a big factor.
For instance if we simply used the ratio of dynamic pressure, 605 vs 240, our lift at 3,000 feet would be well over a million pounds!
Actually 1,113,000 pounds!
Obviously the airplane weight hasn’t changed, so we do not need all this lift. We use that extra thrust to CLIMB.
The difference is that at the low altitude of 3,000 ft, we can lower the wing angle of attack to provide only the amount of lift required to equal the airplane weight of 450,000 pounds.
And since we have lowered the angle of attack, we also greatly reduce our drag due to lift!
All of this is not a difficult computation either—it is simply using the lift and drag equations, which are:
Lift = Q x Wing Area X lift coefficient
Drag = Q x Wing Area x drag coefficient
So 55,000 pounds of thrust is actually what is really required, and that’s a piece of cake for those two engines. It is only 1.6 time greater thrust than our cruise thrust at 35,000 ft, which is 35,000 pounds.
And remember, the air is three times denser at 3,000 ft than at 35,0000 ft. So the two engines could make three times the power, which is over 105,000 pounds of thrust.
Like I said, jets climb very quickly. That is one of the great advances of jet engine technology. To climb quickly you need a lot of EXCESS power. That is why you could indeed go very fast, even surpassing redline speed right down at sea level if you wanted to!

Warfare is different than simple basic comprehension of relative economic and government systems.
For one thing – the wars that are started by idiots, are almost always started by idiots who have no actual experience of real war.
The apocryphal example is the need for a “What this country needs is a short, victorious war to stem the tide of revolution.” by Vyacheslav von Plehve. Plehve was a lawyer by education and a secret policeman by profession, and the war in question was the Russo-Japanese war where the imperial military’s incompetence in the Far East was abundantly demonstrated.
As for China’s likelihood to win the COVID struggle:
Who has won the past 35 years of economic struggle?
Who has utterly transformed their society over the same period?
Just because the US Deep State is stupid in everyday terms does not mean they are actually literally stupid. For one thing, their goals are not necessarily what you think they are.
If your goal is MIC sales and/or US military budgets – is winning really the optimal path?
Net net: lab leak or bio-weapon theories suffer from an extremely poor job of understanding the capabilities and people that would be involved. Yet again – not impossible but you need evidence of means, motive *and* opportunity, and even then, randomness happens too.

Want to read a small book about Latin America? This one’s a page turner (if it were in book form) by Jan Knippers Black, b. 1940, former Peace Corps in Chile, then to Brazil in early 1960s, big focus on Brazil but loaded with info and insight from 1950 through 2006, names names, dates, can’t stop reading it. It’s an epilogue to her book which I will order and read. Explains “Empire”. I would make it required reading for every 9th grader worldwide but since I’m a humble peon I’ll merely recommend it to fellow barflies. Remember, she’s writing this in 2006, during the W and Cheney years.
“What is most enduring in the U.S. approach to empire has been enduring far longer than the United States itself – that is, the nature of the power game. OK so that raises the question : How good does the pilot have to be to accomplish all that AND hit a very small target just as maximum speed is reached and the planes wings are about to fall off? Would a pilot that can barely fly a Cessna be able to accomplish that maneuver on a 767?

Yes, some reiteration of what was already known. I’ve bolded what myself and others have speculated might occur. It’s my estimation that while the Taliban are patient they are also anxious to close this chapter of Afghanistan’s past. What remains for the Taliban to prove is their credibility and reliability which can only be accomplished by deeds. We’re all liking what we’re hearing, but results must be produced. I’m of the belief that the Taliban understand that issue. If overall stability can be accomplished widely and swiftly after NATO completely leaves, then there’s a good chance that with the right type of aid the new government will be able to prepare for the Afghan Winter while making plans for reconstruction and development, and social polices like the one that must be implemented to deter opium growing.

Cavell cannot bring himself to state the obvious, to recognise/pronounce the betrayal by AOC and the squad of treacherous dogs that refused bluntly to assert their power, to force the vote, to call out the hegemonic murderousness of their colonising Biden government.
Yes he calls out Biden for failing to support the interests of the disaffected but as apolitical analyst he fails to get to the nub of the current political opportunity that the ‘left’ flatly refused pay heed.
Soon I guess the squad of treachery will be patting themselves on the back about ‘bringing the troops home, ending the forever wars’ while keeping silent about root and branch demilitarising their Intelligence Military Industrial Complex. They will not loudly demand the end of USAi assaults on the nations of South America, they will not ask ‘silly questions’ about Haiti. Well, it occurs to me that it might be better to have the greedheads out there in the open where you can keep an eye on them, as opposed to burrowing away inside the party. And they do generate a lot of innovation if you keep them on a short leash. Back in the day, when the government actually regulated them well, it worked pretty well for the working class here, all of it. I tend to favor “mixed” economies, it’s not about everbody marching in line, or stomping the “bad” people out, nature hates mono-cultures. What matters is are they harming the public good, or not?
