A U.S. Army Apache helicopter unit’s planned visit to World War II sites in Poland devolved into a drunken escapade at an off-limits strip club, leading to the suspected drugging of a battalion executive officer who went missing and wasn’t found until the next day, an Army investigation found.
The incident involving the 101st Combat Aviation Brigade’s “No Mercy” battalion during its recent deployment to Europe now has multiple officers facing the possible end of their military careers.
“The command took immediate and appropriate adverse action against the leaders involved,” Col. Joseph Buccino, spokesman for the 18th Airborne Corps, said in a statement. “Some officers are facing further administrative actions to determine whether they will continue to serve in the Army.”
A command investigation report obtained by Stars and Stripes details how taxpayer dollars were spent on a trip that was supposed to be about improving “unit cohesion and morale,” but ended in scandal as rumors of the battalion’s deeds swirled through the brigade in the months that followed.

I don't share David P. Goldman's ideology and convictions. They are almost the polar opposite of mine's.
But he has something I don't have, something that only a bourgeois specialist can give: insider information.
I once hypothesized here that, if the USA were to collapse suddenly (which I don't think it ever will, but if it do happen), then it would surely involve an uncontrolled growing spiral of inflation/hyperinflation. That's the logical conclusion of an hypothetical collapse of the USD standard.
So far, I can only see a mild rise in inflation. I don't think the USA will ever experience hyperinflation (four-digit) or even true high inflation (two-digit). Goldman is a rabid neoliberal, and anything above 2% is hyperinflation for him, so we should take these kind of analyses with a grain of salt.

And the religious persecution argument is a bold lie. Most of the land was owned by the Orthodox Church and, in order to do the land reform - the reforms the peasants so much wanted! - the Bolsheviks had to expropriate the Church. The Orthodox Church was a real political institution with real political powers during Tsarism; it wasn't this fell-good, self help, PR-prolific institution it is today: the peasant who disobeyed or bothered the Orthodox Church felt God's wrath directly in the flesh. Any kind of what you could call "religious persecution" ended in 1921, and we know that because it is documented. Conservative Russians should learn how to read before speaking bullshit on the streets.
Russia is diminishing itself. That's a normal historical process. The sad thing is that this may be the first ever voluntary case.

What gets me about these writings, interviews, papers, etc. is how they polish the turd. They actually do dome out and say that the U.S is enforcing 'Primacy' but we have no choice. It's self-defense. Don't you get it, we are just responding to China's quest for primacy. It's friggin' insufferable.

I have a question that is floating about unanswered.
People resisting arrest are more likely to be injured by the police
than people that do not resist. Resisting is a dangerous choice.
Obviously it is more dangerous for both parties, the police and the suspect.
What percentage of people that are resisting arrest
are injured by the police in the process?
Are White or European American, Black or African American, American Indian, Alaska Native, Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Other Pacific Islander, people of two or more races
equally likely to resist an arrest?
Is race less important, statistically, in figuring who will resist
than other factors such as income or urban/rural environment?
Is it cultural rather than racial?
The following numbers are not real, but are offered to help make the point.
If 10% of Whites being arrested actively resist the police
but 30% of Blacks actively resist then it seems clear
that Blacks will be injured more often then Whites.
And it is the decision to resist that inflates the statistics
rather than the racial prejudice of the police officers.
Bash away. This is just a thought that I have wondered about.

Re: US inflation -- currency problems are relative. For the time being, if a crisis results, US can pressure ECB and BOJ etc to inflate in parallel with the FED, resulting in stability between the top currencies on a relative basis.
Re: EP resolution suggesting stopping importing Russian energy -- I think it was proposed by a minority of MEP's. EU is naturally divided on the question of energy imports, and positively opposed to RU+DE economic integration. Direct pipelines add to Germany's power within the EU, which is a genuine source of concern for everyone else in the intra-EU politics. Besides that, France benefits as the nuclear-energy power, Netherlands Belgium as the main ports of entry for LNG, several others for various economic reasons, and Poland and Baltics for more historical/political reasons.
Re: Huawei -- that is a shame. They will bounce back eventually, and will shift from expensive devices to developing "third world" market. When this started I figured Samsung would be the big winner.

Another “Arria formula” meeting concerning OPCW’s doctored investigation of alleged “chemical attacks” in Douma has been held at the UN on April 16, 2021. Aaron Maté was present again and has delivered what is, in my opinion, the best overview of the story so far—detailed, yet succinct, eloquent and accessible.
The 27-minute video consists of three parts:
1. An introduction for those unfamiliar with the story, which is so good that I’ve decided to type it out here (0:04–5:35):
I’m very honored to be here once again. I really appreciate the opportunity.So it has been three years since the alleged chemical attack in Douma and nearly two years since the cover-up of the OPCW investigation into Douma was exposed, but yet, all this time later, nothing has been done to address the serious flaws in this investigation. So what I want to do today is go through some of the few arguments that have been made by the OPCW and other state parties in trying to justify why they refused to meet with the inspectors—the original inspectors who challenged the cover-up of their probe—and why they refuse to investigate any of the scientific fraud that was alleged.
So, again, what are the basic details of this incident?
April 7, 2018, something horrible happens in Douma, dead bodies are filmed inside of a building, the U.S., Britain and France a few days later bomb Syria, accusing it of committing a chemical attack in Douma. Shortly after that, the OPCW gets a team on the ground—for the first time actually having a fact-finding mission reaching the site of an alleged chemical attack in Syria. They investigate, about a year later, in March 2019, a final report comes out, and that report claims that there are reasonable grounds to believe that a chlorine attack occurred in Douma, and the inference of the report is that Syria was guilty, so it aligns with the narrative put out by the countries that bombed Syria.
But then we get a pretty extraordinary series of leaks that exposes a major deception, and these leaks show that the actual inspectors who went to Douma did not reach the conclusion that was put out by the OPCW, and they actually found that there was no evidence of a chemical attack in Douma. They did not speculate as to what actually happened, but what they said is that there was no evidence of a chemical attack.
We saw that because one of the leaks we got was the original report from the Douma team—they wrote a report that was never released to the public until it was leaked. That report was peer-reviewed by the team, it was set for publication, but then something very strange happened: the author of that original report, the chief author, who’s been identified by the OPCW as inspector B, he discovered that someone above him had actually been trying to rush out a bogus report, taking the original report, removing all the key scientific findings, and adding unsupported conclusions including speculating that chlorine gas was likely used and falsely claiming that there were high concentrations of that chemical. So inspector B thwarted the publication of this bogus report, because he sent an email of protest that was sent out to all the Douma team members and some officials. That led to the publication of the interim report in early July 2018. The interim report removed the bogus claims of the doctored bogus report, but it also removed some of the key claims of the original report—so, sort of a compromise.
And around that time something else very curious happened: a U.S. delegation visited the Douma team and tried to lobby them into reaching the conclusion that there was a chlorine attack. Now, it’s very common, as we know, for state parties to share information, share views, share intelligence, but a one-on-one briefing in which the inspectors, who are supposed to be protected, come face-to-face with the U.S. delegation is very unusual. The first Director-General of the OPCW José Bustani told me at The Grayzone that he would never have allowed such a meeting to take place.
Something else happens around then, too. The original team, including inspector B, who was the chief author of the original report, they are all sidelined, they’re taken off the Douma investigation, and they're replaced by a so-called “Core team”, and this is comprised mostly of people who never set foot in Syria, and that is the team that produced the final report.
So then we get these leaks showing all this happening, and then what happens, well, the OPCW refuses to meet with the inspectors, they refuse to investigate the doctoring of the original report. When José Bustani, the first Director-General of the OPCW, tries to speak at the UN Security Council when he was invited, certain member states block him from speaking. And what’s interesting about that is José Bustani, being the first Director-General, helped design the protocols used for inspection missions like Douma, he also worked with the key dissenting inspectors—because these two inspectors, they’re so experienced at the OPCW that their tenure coincides with the organization’s first leader—and also he has experienced what we’re talking about today, which is putting pressure on the OPCW, because when he was the chief, he was forced out by the U.S., because he was standing in the way of the Iraq War. He was trying to bring Iraq into the Chemical Weapons Convention, and he was even physically threatened, as he has talked about publicly.
And meanwhile also some deceptive claims are put out in the media about the inspectors, they are disseminated through state-funded outlets, including the BBC, funded by the U.K., and also a website called Bellingcat, which is funded by the U.S., making false claims about the inspectors and the investigation.
2. A detailed explanation, accompanied by slides, of what was altered in the final OPCW report and why OPCW’s claims of the bulk of analysis having been carried out after inspectors A and B had left the organization are a lie (5:36–21:29).
3. Closing comments and a question to U.S. and U.K. ambassadors, who for some strange reason have left the meeting by that time (21:30–27:22).

What universe do liberals live in? Most of my beatdowns have occurred for crime of riding a bicycle. Spare me the BS about cyclists running traffic signals, all my incidents while fully compliant. To include an occasion where I was beaten unconscious and dumped behind a snow bank where traffic passing could not see me. Left unconscious and soaking wet in a puddle while temps dropped and it was getting dark. To include, recently, in my old age, a hit and run by police vehicle while simply standing astride the bike and waiting for the light to change. US police are absolute barbarians and completely psychotic. It takes an immense amount of privilege to not know this.

Early on, there was indication that people who had had "common cold coronavirus" infections from one of the four commonly circulating viruses were either immune or experienced minor symptoms from COVID19. I had wondered at the time if prophylactic acquisition of the common cold viruses by the population (through a pill or nose spray) could not "vaccinate" us naturally against the more dreaded virus. You are asking one of the right questions. The linked paper addresses it. Although I have to admit it is just a lot to read.
They are suggesting there is a lot of cross immunity from common cold viruses. One way or other they identified widespread immunity in general population. Past that.....
One factor is that respiratory infections are really easy to get. Virus/bacteria contacts epithelial cell wall in lung directly. There is no blood, no lymph, minimal mucus on interior of lung. By the time you are coughing up mucus the infection is well established. So you are sick by the time immune system is in high gear. When there is a big heavy viral load is when the heavy weapons in bloodstream come into play.

I saw a still image from the video at, maybe RT, yesterday and that was my first thought also - that they've forced the science on something that clarifies his brain. His eyes and body language were very different. It suggested a breakthrough in something. A lot to take from one image but that's all I will ever have the stomach for from the speech.

Mike Yeadon has been doing a lot of interviews recently with the same message. It amounts to a last ditch despairing effort to persuade people they have been lied to.
If you believe in the pandemic and the vaccine then it is still worth watching to see a defeated and despairing man. That, of course, is my manipulative way to induce you to watch, but, even if you are not open to persuasion, you will find it interesting (but perhaps uncomfortable?) to listen to his explanation of how and why his message (which he firmly believes in) has been defeated.

And once that is achieved, what next are Russians supposed to do?
With reconciliation, Russians can decide what direction, what progress they want to make.
I find reading Paul Robinson's writing on Russian history rather unsatisfactory; there is not very much analysis and the article he wrote for RT on the Civil War monument in Sevastopol seems not to give Russian people much credit for being able to see what the monument represents and to be able to interpret what it means for them over time.

@ 26 juliania... it is a large choir! i liked the other one better, but this is also cool for different reasons... they seem to have a type of focus on music i am unfamiliar with which i am guessing is the eastern orthodox influence! they seem to be using vocals like a classical composer would use the string section, but the range is fairly narrow and tight.. they are not making big jumps in the melody or anything like that... it is a very lush sound with all those voices.. i see there is a lot of this music on youtube... thanks for sharing!

My thought is that it would behoove the leaders of the US to have a similar attitude towards that half of the American people whose ancestors were on the losing side in the earlier civil war here - instead what most shocked me about Biden's speech was his antagonism towards his predecessor and the mean, over the top comments he was making - I could not watch past the first few pompous paragraphs but I did read the transcript.
This is a real failing on the part of the Democrats, who have strong-armed their way into power. In closing, Biden used the word 'autocrat'; it is he that is the autocrat; not, for all his failings, Trump. The latter was indeed, in a shaky electoral process, primaried and then elected fairly. Not so Biden. It does not give me a good feeling about the future, much as I hope that it will at least be peaceful.

James @ 45, yes, the last was probably a cathedral choir in either Russia or France (Russian emigre population)- if Russia, it would have been USSR time I think, so probably Moscow. The melodies are ancient chants, but church composers move on from those much as classical composers use folk tunes. The choir is eight voices,first and second bass, tenor, alto, soprano. Very difficult music to sing, or to conduct. There was an American conductor who did it beautifully, though. Senior me, can't recall his name - it will come to me... Ah! Robert Shaw! (The brain just has to take its time!)

About 450,000 lifetime miles at this point so a few incidents are to be expected. Lifetime police beatdowns would be one in prison, two at anti war demonstrations, six for crime of riding a bicycle. Two of the bicycle beatdowns were life threatening. Tally does not include the hit and run. Police do this all day and laugh about it.
What was the original subject? Oh yes, a commenter was going on about resisting arrest and race. Resisting arrest basically means being within 100 yards of a cop. The highly privileged can get face to face with Officer Friendly and discuss police training methods. Most of us try to arrange our days so as to never be within 100 yards of a cop.

I'm 20 minutes into Dr. Mike Yeaden's talk. Help me out here. When he says "your government has been lying to you" I'm 100% with him, including his account of inflating cause of death to covid, false positives with no analysis of probable faulty processing, etc.
But... he repeats over and over that you don't get the virus from asymptomatic people. That doesn't sound right to me. I've caught the flue many times in my life and am pretty sure that some of my cases were from asymptomatic carriers.
Also, is he also indicting China? Vietnam? Mongolia? There are lots of "resistance" countries where masks and "lockdowns" happened and I thought the results were good for them.
I'll keep watching but if you support his theses (plural) please step up and defend him.

Your last two paragraphs get the point. A pandemic is a global phenomenom. This means it is all over the world, in many countries - not only one's own particular country - and one can compare and get information independent from this or that country/regime/media etc.
One of the more blatent examples: Both Iran and Israel seem to agree on pretty much everything Corona-related: the seriousness if the disease, the efficiency of lock-downs, the usefulness of vaccines etc. When did the two countries the last time agree on something else?
In order to dismiss Covid-19 as hoax and reconcile this theory with all known and publicly available facts one has to fabricate some kind of MSM-deep state-China-Iran-Zionist-North Korea-Italy-Japanese-WHO-Italy etc. etc. conspirancy theory.

My hypotheses about covid are pretty crude and vague regarding it's birth, spread and our planetary response. Either scenario, the sociopaths who run the companies and their puppets in politics are manipulating, lying and threatening like they have always done. I believe Yeadon (and some others) are purposely obfuscating. They muddy the waters.
Why might they do so? Consider what is widely acknowledged to be true, such as:
- A new virus appears soon after a new Cold War begins (suspicious)
- USA and other Western countries didn't take the steps necessary to effectively fight this virus: Trump pretended to fight it with an ineffective blocking of international flights from China and then, immediately after taking that step, lied to the American people about the severity of the virus while his administration dragged its feet on preparation!
- Sending sick people home instead of quarantining them was guaranteed to spread the virus (countries that effectively fought the pandemic quarantined and conducted effective contact tracing);
- The solution that is thrust upon us is a US military-funded technology (mRNA) designed for biowarfare. Preventatives (like Vitamin-D), early detection (Chinese are now doing anal swabs), and treatments for those who are sickened have been largely ignored as everyone is urged to get vaccinated ("its free!"; "trust the science!")
- Non-mRNA vaccines have had mysterious production problems and bad press (blood clots!). The press is silent about problems reported about the mRNA vaccines.

Today UK claim no dead from covid. Well, that may simply shows that a strict prolonged lockdown since december with real quarantines works in diminishing the epidemy (while many other countries with open-close-open-close policies and open borders let it roam also for their neighbours).
It also shows that the 90 percent ppl who were dying of it and were +70 or with co-morbidities and got vaccinated got benefit from the enhanced immunity they got from the AZ shot. Good also that the staff working with the elderly was also offered the shot, since it seems they carry it, and spread it, less.
The only little problem with all that is that it is still entirely experimental and that the outcome cannot be predicted.
Several countries, like France, want people to keep wearing masks and keep distances after the full vaccination of the country! As long as it keeps the Yellow Jackets home...

He goes into details too and describes the cause of death as a *** pneumonia (does anyone get the word?), which once identified should have stopped people being intubated (still the top 1 solution in France apparently). I quit after about 10 minutes when the number of obvious false statements he had made reached three.
One of his basic premises is that people with covid don't walk around in public - they are sick and stay home. Studies have shown this claim to be wrong. This guy just makes up facts to support his theory.
According to research by John Hopkins asymptomatic spreaders may account for as much as 50% of all infections and even those who do have symptoms can spread the disease for days before they become aware of being sick.

Fact: Every country relies on the same PCR testing regiment, and absurdly labels a "positive PRC test" as a "Covid infection case". Those "cases" you hear the global media scream about in a daily manner are NOT sick individuals. It is not even clear if they are even actually "infected". Countries use the same test because its effective. If you test negative you can be fairly certain you don't have it. There are other diseases where some people don't have symptoms even though they test positive and carry the disease without developing signs of illness. There are people who live the rest of their lives with a case of TB or Lyme disease without appearing sick from it.
The objection to the use of the word "case" is really stupid and cynical. If only the people who were sick enough to be hospitalized were referred to as cases then the case fatality rate would be very much higher and these same people would be claiming that is a conspiracy to fool the public into believing the disease is nmore dangerous than it is...

He has had a very comfortable and normal life as a boffin. He is not a good actor. This one deserves a more complete refutation.
It is a fallacy capitalism has to choose between economic growth and "safety net". The Welfare State in Western Europe was entirely built over the bombastic economic growth of the post-war period. In fact, the contrary is true: safety nets are only possible in capitalism when economic growth is extraordinary; the recent decades of stagnation of Western Europe witnessed the inverse process: the degeneration of the Welfare State, not its preservation (let alone its expansion).
If the EU could grow 10% per year, you bet your soul it would. It is pure dishonesty for a capitalist to tell you he would chose safety net instead of economic growth.
Concomitantly, if the EU could print the money to keep its economy afloat like the USA, it also would've done so. Only the USA can print money at will. It has nothing to do with philosophical differences between the Europeans and the Americans, but with objective, scientifically observable factors.
San Marino is almost free from Covid thanks to SputnikV. After a search almost a month ago even BezosBlog had and article on it, now reading an article in vz.ru I found out that they are at zero infected per day, confirmed by the worldometers.info tables.

Thanks Paco, about San Marino, it was interesting to see that in a purely statistic study supposedly showing hidden mortality in almost every country in the world that was posted here a few days ago, San Marino appeared as having hidden at least one or two times the number of dead (can't recall exactly, sorry). For a country that has 33, 000 people on 61 km2.
Possibly the authors decided to "evaluate the hidden mortality" because they saw the name of the country in every "top 10" covid mortality, where the results are multiplied to get the "number per 100,000".
In fact, San Marino had 90 deaths until now.

@ 49 juliania... thanks for those additional notes.. yes - those types of songs would be very difficult to sing given the tight range of the melody.. it is a particular style of music i am not familiar with... that is cool the origins of the melodies - ancient chants! makes sense... i have some modern chants, but have never tried arranging them for a vocal group... i have a close friend who does this kind of work, but i have never done it.. i am mostly just a lowly drummer, lol... here is the friend of mine playing piano on this track with 80 odd singers... the song i would like to share with you hasn't been published yet, but this one sounds nice as well..

I mothballed my crystal ball a long time ago, but I suppose the death rate will stabilize eventually and then start dropping, and that then the numbers will tell the same old story, i.e. a slightly worse than normal flu season.
The folks who are dying are dying in blocks, as it were, and as such cause congestion with the graveyards and funeral pyres, I suppose.

I was the one who posted the study:
Ariel Karlinsky, Dmitry Kobak. “The World Mortality Dataset: Tracking excess mortality across countries during the COVID-19 pandemic” (preprint, January 29, 2021, revised April 11, 2021).
The results shown in Table 1 for San Marino are 74 official deaths from COVID-19 and 89±26 estimated true deaths from COVID-19. Therefore, your claim that in this study “San Marino appeared as having hidden at least one or two times the number of dead” is completely wrong. Taking into account the uncertainty (±26), the study actually indicates that San Marino is reporting the death toll correctly. If you “can’t recall exactly” the numbers in the study, why don’t you go back to the old thread, open the link and refresh you memory instead of misrepresenting what the study is saying?

On a brighter note, and this being an open thread and all, I read this story recently and thought of you, being a drummer and a Vinnie Colaiuta fan...

I was just enamored with Vinnie. Back in the Frank days, his whole approach, when I heard Vinnie play, his phrasing - it satisfied something in my heart. It was easy to get certain rhythmic gratification from straight up-and-down-type players. Playing grooves, alternate grooves here and there. But Vinnie just came in and threw a wrench into the works. The guy is an alien. He was able to touch buttons with his sense of polyrhythms that no one has ever done. Frank's band was the perfect soundboard for that. I started transcribing his playing for The Frank Zappa Book. I mean, there's five to six different notations for the hi-hat!" [laughs]
I'll tell you a really great Vinnie story. He's one of the most amazing sight-readers that ever existed on the instrument. One day we were in a Frank rehearsal, this was early '80s, and Frank brought in this piece of music called "Mo 'N Herb's Vacation." Just unbelievably complex. All the drums were written out, just like "The Black Page" except even more complex. There were these runs of like 17 over 3 and every drumhead is notated differently. And there were a whole bunch of people there, I think Bozzio was there.
Vinnie had this piece of music on the stand to his right. To his left he had another music stand with a plate of sushi on it, okay? Now the tempo of the piece was very slow, like "The Black Page." And then the first riff came in, [mimics bizarre Zappa-esque drum rhythm patterns] with all these choking of cymbals, and hi-hat, ruffs, spinning of rototoms and all this crazy stuff. And I saw Vinnie reading this thing. Now, Vinnie has this habit of pushing his glasses up with the middle finger of his right hand. Well I saw him look at this one bar of music, it was the last bar of music on the page. He started to play it as he was turning the page with one hand, and then once the page was turned he continued playing the riff with his right hand, as he reached over with his left hand, grabbed a piece of sushi and put it in his mouth, continued the riff with his left hand and feet, pushed his glasses up, and then played the remaining part of the bar.
It was the sickest thing I have ever seen. Frank threw his music up in the air. Bozzio turned around and walked away. I just started laughing

Yeadon seems to me to be right on the diagnostic but not in the way he describes the evidence. And why not supporting other physicians who have talked about the scandal of the sanitary (non-)measures? He would get credibility by finding some allies. Kory and Raoult have always managed to quote papers written by prominent specialists in support of their theories.

About the numbers in India, I was indeed suprised when I heard today that New Delhi had 15,000 dead of covid in the last two weeks. Does not seem worse than any other epidemy, for a city of this size. And in fact, after checking the stat websites, 15,000 is the number given for all the dead from covid in New Delhi since the beginning of the pandemic. It must have been one of the "little mistakes" of the MSM.
Another problem is that the 1st shot creates a weaker immunity for a while, so when you live in a polluted environment you are actually putting yourself at risk (thus the strict lockdown of the UK during the vaccination campaign made sense, as it also reduces traffic/pollution).
But the whole panick helps to bury the news of last week, being that because the US refused to export some components, India was not able to continue the vaccination campaign at a good pace.

There are factory floors where people are required to remove their neckties before entering.
Simple reason is that one could be innocently moseying along through the factory floor when suddenly one's tie gets caught in
one of the gears of the machinery and you are ... well ... toast.
I think of the police this way. You do not want to get caught up in their gears, innocently or not.
My personal interactions with the police are way fewer than oldhippie's, it would seem. Few as they have been, the lesson is clear - stay clear. My most potentially extreme interaction was when I was about nine years old. I had witnessed a major crime and approached the Sergeant that appeared to be in charge of the crime scene. That's the right thing to do - so I had been taught. I told him what I had seen and he said, "You had better get out of here, kid, before someone blames you!". That was a shock to a nine years old's reality. But I didn't realize how lucky I had been that it had ended there. Just by chance, years later, I learned that the perp I had fingered was the brother of that police Sergeant.
I was *that* close to being put on a trajectory that would have led...who knows where...I would probably be a different person today if I had
gone through the full wash, rinse and spin cycle of the juvenile court system - no matter what the ultimate verdict had been. That close.
The lesson is clear - stay clear.
But the inevitable still happens. Five years ago I got pulled over for a traffic violation (deserved it). I was polite, respectful and cooperative. I knew enough not to be too polite as that could be interpreted as suspicious, or patronizing. I was my every day usual polite self, not more, not less.
Other people (I don't know if this includes oldhippie) don't have the privilege of being polite and respectful to the police without automatically seeming insultingly patronizing or suspicious. Also, in some cultural or economic environments being polite and respectful to almost *anyone*, not just the police, is interpreted as weakness. Seems like a formula for inevitable conflict. Human beings, not just police, naturally push back when it is perceived that they are being treated with disrespect. However, police are paid and trained to be professionals and act like professionals - that is the theory. Seems to me the solution, admittedly a partial solution, is more training and higher pay to attract better personnel; plus accountability.

@ 92 john... thanks john! i had heard a version of that story before - the sushi and drum reading bit... it is a hard skill to acquire - sight reading... i came late to reading music, but i think some people are better at it then others... it is a huge asset if you are doing studio work which vinnie has done a ton of.. my reading chops are okay, but no where near on the same level as cats like this.. the session i did last saturday was with written music, but it was like painting by numbers compared to what zappa music demands! i think it might have been steve vai who did the book 'shut up and play yer guitar' songbook which has a lot of the drum figures in it.. i used to have the book, but i never worked out the parts.. the problem is you need to be in a situation working with others who are into this sort of thing, to discipline yourself to doing this material.. i am content to play along or jam some of the hot rats tunes, but some of the more daunting stuff of franks - i have never been motivated enough to dig into. regarding crazy good drummers - there are many of them out their - one of my favourite, although he looks awkward when he plays, is ari hoenig.. he has gotten better with his body form over the past 10 years... here is one video of him... it is a completely different style then what vinnie does.. this is another one of the challenges for a musician - what direction do they want to go in creatively?? it's an ongoing question! my readings okay, but like i say - it would be hard to compete on this level with someone like vinnie!
