In other words, the Outlaw US Empire develops and fully supports terrorist forces, which also means NATO does too. And yet Moscow hopes to have positive relations with such people, although perhaps that ideal is no longer seen as feasible despite its still being espoused. Back to reading!

I think Stonebird #188 is essentially correct. “USA”, that is in foreign policy essentially CIA, wants a conflict, so that Russia will have to intervene. This leads to a stop of the pipeline and hopefully a renewal of the cold war in full glory, but with a Russia essentially without European allies. CIA tells the Ukraine government what to do and controls the narrative in the west, don’t hope for anything else.
Putin tries to talk to Merkel and Macron, they agree, they don’t want this, but can do nothing, CIA runs the show. They will have to play along. On the Western front nothing new.
Europe is a non-entity because they have no leadership. Putin has to talk to America directly, but same problem, they have no leadership that will show up to talk. The leaders are hidden. “Diplomacy” is only theater in the West, what is said means nothing, you can make no agreements.
Putin mobilizes and considers. If it comes to this, and we have to intervene, would it be preferable to destroy the Ukraine entirely, and secure the Black Sea? What will happen in Belarus, Georgia, what with domestic public opinion? How much will it cost?

One thing about this situation is rather funny (odd). The “original” theme was that Zelensky would increase troop and armour levels to where the Russians would “have” to do something about it.

Obviously this notion is logically flawed in its very core as it assumes the liars have no common interests in which their lies will coincide.
Because of this I have no faith that Trump’s new media platform will right the wrongs in the world; nevertheless, I do look forward to it. It could really stir up the status quo!

I hadn’t remembered that Yeltsin’s announcement of Putin as his successor took place on Dec. 31,1999. That certainly explains the emotion evident in Putin as he gives that New Year’s speech every year. It is also very helpful to be reminded of the immediate aftereffect of the attack on the US at 9/11. All conspiracy theories aside, the problems in Chechnya and Dagestan gave Russia and the US common issues to face which ought to have provided the opportunity then and there to forestall the stupidity that underlay US insistence on enmity. But already in the diplomatic cold shoulder Primakov reports as having occurred before that, the underlying division was in the works. And there was a lot more of that kind of nastiness to follow.
That was an interesting read, with respect to Putin’s strategy of working with the federal regions and the governors – reminded me of Rumsfeld’s remark ‘you work with the army you have’. An exceptional piece of Russian history unfolding. Thanks again.

The logic is possibly correct – as further down the thread it mentions that water reserves can be pumped, but this is finite and leads in the end to salination and rendering water undrinkable. The desalinisation plants (one new one just finished) probably can only cover human and animal drinking needs but not agriculture.

Language is everything, “In the beginning was the word”. Machine translation is almost literal, but fortunately translations cannot be carbon copies, the nature of language is life itself, a worldview, history, and the experience of generations are imbedded.
Russians tend to be extremely formal when it comes to English. I have some experience interpreting which is a lot easier than translating in some respects and way more complicated in others, since it requires immediacy and diplomacy, and limited experience translating some articles and introduction to some friends photography books. Since it is an official site they tend to be formal and usually soften rough edges, plus they take their time as you might have noticed. The Foreign Ministry is working overtime, so many things happening they’re producing more material than time to digest it, the gauntlet has been thrown.

They sought to carry out their blackmail threat by publishing their doodles and fantasies on the Scottish Government website. Salmond sought an Interdict (injunction) to prevent such publication. So Liz Lloyd leaked the report to her former lover at the Daily Record, who published and destroyed the good name of Alex Salmond. When Salmond continued to resist, and was about to win the judicial review, Liz Lloyd recruited and suborned five other women to make claims for the criminal trial of Alex Salmond. Then Ms Lloyd made an accusation herself, became an alpha Betty, and was rewarded with lifetime anonimity (she is Ms A in the criminal pleadings).
So I say again, and even more strongly:
Now here is the kicker.
Liz Lloyd has not appeared before the Fabiani committee!
Now it just might be that SOMEBODY is protecting Ms Lloyd.
I know who is that somebody. But I don’t want to upset people by naming her.
