This to me is the greater elephant in the room, and we somewhat discussed this at the time, namely that the whole world watched what China did but very few countries took note of all the things that China did. The west in particular, as I have believed all along, was humbled or shamed into doing something about the epidemic, which it would have preferred to ignore. That might have been why Bernie huddled as well, the coldness of the occasion penetrating his soul. One might further speculate that this is the ultimate significance of the apparent determination to proceed with every measure designed to affront and insult the populace at large. The speech called for largesse; small measures will only cut further into the divide, deepen the chasm. How actual history proceeds will determine what is possible given the gigantic unknowns we face, which I had felt Biden clearly laid out in an unusual speech that had me hoping he would ‘hit the ground running’. (That was the only part of the proceedings I watched and listened to, the speech itself.) It all sounded as though positive domestic priorities would be on his desk right away – but I don’t count the sports/gender issue to be in any way a national priority, so that dimmed those hopes immediately. Posted by: juliania | Jan 23 2021 18:23 utc | 178 The Clown show continues. The Daily Mail reported that the Bidens were locked out of the White House on Inauguration day. Posted by: Norwegian | Jan 23 2021 19:02 utc | 179 The South African government was even taken to court over the sheer irrationally of some of the regulations issued during lockdown. Some were down right arbitrary. For example shoes with open toes were not allowed to be sold. I’m still not sure how that’s supposed to prevent transmission of COVID-19. This is a pretty accurate description of the behavour of the proponents of “green” politics, some of which may be well meaning and some are blatant liars. They both build their house of cards on the non-scientific lie that CO2 is a danger to life on earth in general, expecting the rest of society to subsidise them to become insanely rich (ref. Musk/Tesla and others). This happened at the time of the inauguration, and also when, coincidentally, the official Covid19 PCR test protocol recommended Ct (cycle threshold) was reduced to 30 (or 35?) from the up-to-just-now 40/45. Perfectly clear that the resulting dramatic reduction in ‘cases’ will be attributed to the vaccines (which are actually not ‘vaccines’, just as ‘cases’ are false positive test results, not classic ‘cases’.)
