On Day 1 Joe Biden Destroyed Women's Sports

On his first day in office President Joe Biden destroyed women's sports.

As one of several executive orders Biden issued the

Executive Order on Preventing and Combating Discrimination on the Basis of Gender Identity or Sexual Orientation.

It sets out a new policy:

Every person should be treated with respect and dignity and should be able to live without fear, no matter who they are or whom they love. Children should be able to learn without worrying about whether they will be denied access to the restroom, the locker room, or school sports. Adults should be able to earn a living and pursue a vocation knowing that they will not be fired, demoted, or mistreated because of whom they go home to or because how they dress does not conform to sex-based stereotypes. People should be able to access healthcare and secure a roof over their heads without being subjected to sex discrimination. All persons should receive equal treatment under the law, no matter their gender identity or sexual orientation.

This is librulism gone crazy.

The legal core of the executive order says:

In Bostock v. Clayton County, 590 U.S. ___ (2020), the Supreme Court held that Title VII’s prohibition on discrimination “because of . . . sex” covers discrimination on the basis of gender identity and sexual orientation. Under Bostock‘s reasoning, laws that prohibit sex discrimination — including Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, as amended (20 U.S.C. 1681 et seq.), the Fair Housing Act, as amended (42 U.S.C. 3601 et seq.), and section 412 of the Immigration and Nationality Act, as amended (8 U.S.C. 1522), along with their respective implementing regulations — prohibit discrimination on the basis of gender identity or sexual orientation, so long as the laws do not contain sufficient indications to the contrary.

Yes, this requires a bit of explaining.

Title VII is the Civil Rights Act of 1964 which prohibits discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex or national origin.

Title IX of the Educational Amendments of 1972 prohibits sex discrimination in any education program or activity receiving federal financial assistance. BUT title IX also sets out exceptions for a number of specific educational activities including sports.

In the U.S. girl's and women's sport in schools and colleges only took off after Title IX was enacted.

Discriminations based on biological sex are not only allowed but seen as positive in sports. Women have their own leagues and their own competitions because it is a simple scientific fact of life that persons who are born with a Y chromosome, i.e. males, develop stronger bodies than persons born with an X chromosome. If there were no gender discrimination in sports no person born as woman would ever have a chance to win an open competition. There would always be stronger men who would win.

In the Rio 2016 Olympics the 100 meter final for men was won by Usain Bolt in 9.81 seconds. The last men in the finals, Trayvon Bromell, needed 10.06 seconds. The 100 meter final for women was won by Elaine Thompson in 10.71 seconds. She would have had no chance to even reach the men's semi finals.

The case the Supreme Court ruled on in Bostock v. Clayton County was based on a job discrimination against a gay man:

On June 15, 2020, the Court ruled in a 6–3 decision covering all three cases that discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation or gender identity is necessarily also discrimination "because of sex" as prohibited by Title VII. According to Justice Neil Gorsuch's majority opinion, that is so because employers discriminating against gay or transgender employees accept a certain conduct (e.g., attraction to women) in employees of one sex but not in employees of the other sex.

The ruling by the court is controversial. What was the meaning of 'sex' in the Civil Rights Act of 1964 when it was enacted? Was it meant to cover how people 'identify' or did it only apply to the biological meaning of the word?

The problem with the Supreme Court ruling and Biden's executive order is that they extend the meaning of biological sex to 'gender identity'. This undermines the exception set out for sports under Title IX. Under Biden's interpretation any male can declare "I currently identify as woman" and run in the a women school or college competition. Under Biden's EO any school which rejects such nonsense will lose all federal support.

Abigail Shrier @AbigailShrier - 5:11 UTC · Jan 21, 2021

On day 1, Biden unilaterally eviscerates women's sports. Any educational institution that receives federal funding must admit biologically-male athletes to women's teams, women's scholarships, etc.

A new glass ceiling was just placed over girls.

Former U.S. Representative Tulsi Gabbard had seen that problem coming:

Tulsi Gabbard 🌺 @TulsiGabbard - 20:58 UTC · Dec 11, 2020

My 'Protect Women’s Sports Act' simply protects the rights & interests of girls & women who participate in sports so they can compete on a level playing field. Denying biological differences between men & women undermines the reason why Title IX was created in the first place.

H.R. 5603, the Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act of 2020 simply states:

For purposes of determining compliance with title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 (20 U.S.C. 1681–1688) in athletics, sex shall be determined on the basis of sex assigned at birth by a physician.

Gabbard detailed the problem and her position in a video:

Tulsi Gabbard 🌺 @TulsiGabbard - 19:34 UTC · Dec 13, 2020

Title IX is a historic law that positively changed everything for women & girls. This video explains how, and why I introduced the Protect Women’s Sports Act - to clarify, uphold & strengthen the original intent of Title IX, ensuring a level playing field for girls & women.

With her being no longer in the House there is little chance that the law will pass anytime soon.

Biden's executive order is one of many reasons why the Democrats will lose the next election. All over the U.S. high school boys who are too lame to become a member of a school's male team or to win in a male competitions will 'identify' as girls and demand to be allowed to join the female team or to take part in the female competition. It already happens but the number of such cases will now explode.

It is clear what will follow from that. Girls will stop to take part in competitive sports. They do not want to share a locker room with boys who, maybe only for a day, 'identify' as girls. They will also no longer have a chance to win anything.

It is not pure idioticy that Biden pushes out such nonsense. From the view point of the ruling class it makes sense to split the plebs along cultural ideological lines. As long as they fight each other about access to bathrooms based on 'identity' they will be distracted from recognizing that class discrimination and economic imbalances are the real problems they should care to change.

Issues like the above, which is plainly unreasonable for anyone not drunk on 'librul' LGBTQWERTY cool aid, are a major reason why the U.S. is losing international respect. It no longer cares about science or reason. It does not stick to legal commitments, treaties and international law. It has stopped to make any sense.

It is amazing how the defenders of “identitarian sports” refuse to acknowledge the issue b rightly calls out.
This isn’t theoretical. There are already multiple men competing against women in pro sports; this executive order is now going to proliferate the number.
The existing ones at least had the decency (for the most part) to actually go through sexual reassignment surgery - the executive order means even this isn’t necessary.
Sorry, but you people are simply ignoring biological reality as well as actual behavior already on the ground.

Not sure it’s just to split the plebs, a lot of big donors want these things and are quite invested in it. Would explain why conservatives on Supreme Court seem to be on board with it.

This is the one which really irks me.

South African Olympic gold medalist Caster Semenya, who is a woman, has all the correct bits etc, has been barred from competing in any athletics competition because her testosterone levels are "too high".
It is important to point out that Ms Semenya's condition is 100% natural, apparently some women are born with naturally high levels of testosterone, but unlike those women born with longer than 'normal' legs, who are praised & encouraged to become sprinters, the IAF, who control all official athletics events about the planet have . . ."ruled that restricting testosterone levels in runners with "differences of sex development" is discriminatory but should be done anyway."

Maybe they knew that amerika was going to ruin womens' sport so got in first.
No because those athletes transiting from one gender to another are the only competitors permitted to take hormones. A woman trans to bloke can take testosterone to get his testosterone up to the same level as a bloke, just as a bloke transiting to a woman can take drugs to drop their levels.

Ms Semenya may not however.
I'm too old to play sport and have no desire to call out what I believe are probably crazy rules, let those who compete suffer the consequences of their (imo) stupidity, but the huge injustice done to women athletes such as Ms Semenya rankles even worse than the awful humiliations wreaked upon some Soviet Athletes such as Tamara and Irina Press when the capitalist world looking for any cold war victory they could finagle changed the rules to ban her. Semanya's humiliation is similar, but the Press sisters' injustice was 60 years ago when humans were far less aware of the complexity of our biochemistry.

I'm going to say it: Anyone who says trans women are elligible for women's sport just because they identify themselves as female is stupid. Unless one take your hormonal therapy from teenage year, no testosterone surpression will able to nullify trans women biological advantage over women. Yes I said biological, the very thing that no matter how hard you try to mentally gymnastic way around is something that assigned to you at birth and could give you natural advantage in physicals activities. Heck even chess>/b> has men and women division separated despite it's mostly being a "brain" sport of sort. Why? Because even brain sport requires stamina and this what puts men at a advantage over women in chess: they just more able to drawn out a match longer and therefore could wait more for a female opponent to make mistake.

VK had it right. This is not about casual sport. It will be mostly about sport scholarships and grants that offers enough rewards for boys to trash away their dignity and 'compete' in female sports. Anyone of you who couldn't see this coming is pretty myopic and focused way too much on the stupid individual expression of gender.

Triden | Jan 23 2021 3:20 utc | 109 talks utter tosh with "The one thing CS doesnt have is "all the correct bits".

The murdoch media ran a horror campaign based on gossip and innuendo, but this article sets some of it straight.

In simple(ish) terms, there's a condition called Complete Androgen Insensitivity Syndrome, which occurs when a part of the Y chromosome doesn't do what it should.

Called the SRY gene, it's the instigator of male foetal development. Where it does its job properly, the male hormones ping off and the male foetus develops normally.

However, in a very small number of cases (perhaps one in 20,000 I understand), there's a malfunction and both female and male genitalia develop, albeit internally, and male hormones like testosterone, are largely held in check. . . .

. . .The IOC has concluded that people who present with the CAIS syndrome should be considered to be female, but there are variations along the way - and of course we don't yet know the full details of Semenya's case.

That is not what occurred, the girl raised as a girl and despite yellow journalism and ugly gossip to the contrary has primarily female genetic characteristics. If she did not she could have been barred under existing rules, but the sporting judiciary made a decision against its own rules making a determination on the basis of her testosterone levels.

See here:

Earlier analysis had revealed that Semenya's testosterone levels were three times the normal level for a woman.

The International Association of Athletics Federations received the results of Semenya's 'gender verification test' this week, but it has refused to confirm the findings until they have been verified by a panel of independent scientific experts and the athlete has been personally informed.

But Pierre Weiss, the IAAF secretary general, hinted strongly at the results on Thursday when he said: "It is clear that she is a woman, but maybe not 100 per cent. We have to see if she has an advantage from her possibly being between two sexes compared to the others."

The last woman to be tortured and publicly humiliated in this was also from a developing nation, an Indian woman Santhi Soundarajan who attempted suicide. She had won a silver medal at the Asian Games. Like Semanya her performance wasn't the 'out of this world' , neither broke world records, the stuff one would expect if a trained male athlete were competing with trained female athletes, it was within the performance range of other women athletes.
At the same time as woke dingbats are penalising all women sportspeople by creating rules for trans types, other women athletes are being barred from competing.

Posted by: Debsisdead | Jan 23 2021 5:10 utc | 117

You know what's funny? I've noticed that most supporting comment for trans women entering women sports come from those who don't pay particular attention to sport. Their lack of understanding on how sports work is appalling by saying that "training can overcome biological advantage". Yeah, try to tell the former to anyone who competes against Michael Phelps.

By only know half of the field, all of you are wrecking sports as whole with this nonsense.

Don't you think this is the result of gender norm and expectation in the US? Trans women are more likely to stay with their choice because being a woman means that they are able to be more expressive. Despite what the liberals would like to led you to believe, the gender norm and expectation is still there and rigid as ever. Even trans acceptance works within the same framework.

With genetic engineering, we'll just clone ourselves while adding modifications to fix what we see as defects. Not solved yet is how to transfer one's personality so that the clone will actually be us, not just a physical copy without the same "software."

I wouldn't mind that, but only if there's an absolutely, totally guaranteed way to revert to the classic human genome if something goes wrong.

There are two aspects of this story which would be alarming in a country other than AmeriKKKa.
1. It exposes POTUS Biden as a figurehead leader devoid of wit, imagination or skill. A Manager would not announce a change in The Rules without first bouncing the proposal off a variety of relevant and informed Interested Parties, if only to satisfy Himself that it passes the sniff test. He thus comes across as easily bamboozled by his aides/Puppet Masters.
2. If there is an upside to this change it's the probability that the Equal Pay for Women Crowd will use it to shame the remaining recalcitrant employers to FINALLY comply with the plethora of Equal Pay Acts which they've been side-stepping since Slavery was abolished.

All the above comments suffer from one wrong assumption: Gender "change" may not be voluntary or a question of choice.

I taught in Riyadh (Saudi Arabia) in the early seventies and there were still some Sudanese servants that possibly had been slaves (although you didn't mention that in polite circumstances), left over from the period when the tribes still kept them.
Some were eunuchs. I don't know if they were neutered before or after being "employed". They were sought after as being excellent servants.

However, my wife and I, (we were very recently married) were reasonably accepted by the locals and the local Bedouin population, as we had water, and were invited to marriages. (Note that we were not part of those expats that were invited to the Prince's houses etc.). The women had a great time; songs, dances and no abbayas (masks or headgear.) The men sat outside listening to poets (only place I know where poets had Cadillacs, as they were highly thought of), and waiting for their wives (True !). At one, there was a young "boy" (?) who danced for the audience. It is almost sure that he was either naturally neutered or had been "converted". He danced better (read more sexy) than any girl could ever do.

So did he/they have any choice in the matter before being neutered?

In Europe, which is full of people "who know what is best for others", there are UK "official" groups specialised in "sex" therapy and change for very young children. Personally I think they are a lot of perverts setting up children for future consumption. But then I can have a nasty tongue.
In Ireland, children, (600 infants found in a sceptic tank), were mistreated and the Irish Government is in the process of apologising. Plus the scandals of unwed mothers and the actions of the "bonne soeurs" who were ..... appalling.
China had a policy of one child per family that has led to a lack of females. (That the Uighers have more is a point in favour of b's post earlier)

The danger as I see it, are those who take their own desires for consent by immature children (or even adults). Children cannot defend their rights.

A "solution" is an absolute lower age limit before which no change or choice could be contemplated.

PS. The mental age of a child, used to be taken into account, ie, there is a period in which children "group" themselves by sex, "gangs", pre-puberty, puberty and so on. This is natural and there should be no reason to take advantage of this.

Posted by: Stonebird | Jan 23 2021 11:47 utc | 127

Stonebird @126

The issue needn't be so complex. What does the current culture determine that the statutory age limit is for children to consent to sex? In most western societies that I am aware of it is either sixteen or eighteen years of age. How can a child consent to mutilation of their genitalia prior to being considered competent to give consent to using their genitalia? Likewise, "grooming" a child for such mutilation is logically more horrifying than grooming them for sex.

The Russians have it right on this issue. Even hinting to underage children that hacking off/out their sex organs is some sort of "normal" should be a very serious crime.

It is interesting that in these discussions of gender confusion the rare cases of genetic deformity, like Caster Semenya, are always trotted out as defense for bad policy.

There already exists Olympic competition for people with deformities. It is called the Special Olympics. That is where people with deformities and disorders should be competing. The previous Title IX classification for sports in the US is flexible enough to accommodate "diversity" as well. You have one classification for normal biological women who want to compete against other normal biological women, and then there is the classification for everyone else, as Caliman @1 points out. Though it is often thought of as "men's sports", anyone, including normal biological women, can choose to try and compete in them.

The only thing that Biden's day one executive order accomplishes is making it illegal to exclude biological males from sports that were previously exclusive to biological females. We know without question that this isn't about lowering the barriers to participation for people with genetic deformities because the executive order specifies identity as the criterion, and there is no medical or other empirical way to determine that.

I totally Agree. The "consent" age was an age at which people could vote as well as being considered "mature". The difference in a tribal society was the age at which you basically conquered fear and sometimes pain.. However some initiations were brutal.

The Tolai in PNG, (East New Britain), before being civilised had a "ritual" where a girl from the Bainings was taken prisoner, put in a hut for three days with the "initiates", then taken out and eaten.

("Baining" means "food" in Tolai language, or so I am told. The Baining families exchanged first born sons to preserve their bloodlines in case of capture).

But I digress. This "grooming" possibly happened in the past, but it seems to have taken on a life of it's own at the moment. The destruction of an ordered, cohesive society also seems to be the present objective. Destroy the family, friends, (masks and soc distancing) local sub-group cohesion, authority (Who were installed to Govern over us not to rule as despots), religion.

New formations are being thrust upon us; Military might, a "Rules based order" (not "law" under which we are all supposed to be equal), hereditary superiority, financial slavery. Gender bending follows the same aim of destroying normal guidelines. The young are not supposed to have any stable situations that they can refer to. So "guidance" in the form of strikingly bad options are fed to them as the "truth".

Many on MoA were brought up with "traditional" values. "Grooming" is the new term for "exploitable".

If you accept the philosophy of reincarnation, as over a billion people do, then you also accept that we are reborn over and over in both sexes and in all races. Leaving aside the implied stupidity of racism for now, it also suggests that spiritually we are neither male nor female but a composite of the two, our physical body with its hormones etc. then brings forth that aspect.

However sometimes for various reasons the opposite aspect dominates and we get gay or transgender. In all likelihood it is a karmic occurrence, as such there should be no discrimination for what is just an aspect of nature. No doubt prejudices are historically religious based.

That being said with the issue at hand, having transgender males compete in women's sport is an obvious absurdity, they have a lifetime of male growth giving them greater strength regardless of what hormones they are currently taking. There is no need or reason for the legislation except as another deliberate act to divide and conquer the population. Woke fake leftism is purely about that, I very much doubt those that enable such actually share the philosophy. The real left actually does have a philosophy, one unlikely to be ever embraced by the Davos crowd.

"Transgender individuals are victims of hate crimes..."

Violence against LGBTQWERTY people was a campaign issue last year. Biden pointed out that 37 LGBTQWERTY Americans were murdered in 2019. If course, even one murder is too many, but is this some sort of sign of an epidemic of hate crime against LGBTQWERTY people?

There were 16,425 murders in the United States in 2019.
The US population was 328,000,000 in 2019.
Gallup says that 4% of the US population identifies as LGBTQWERTY.

When we do up the math we get a LGBTQWERTY population in the US of about 13,120,000.

37 people out of a population of 13,120,000 vs 16,425 people out of a population of 328,000,000? Is that really a crisis for gays in America?

OK, many people lack the number sense to clearly see it so I will break it down a little further.

Murder rate per million:
Everyone else: 50.1

Perhaps there is a perception in America of a crisis of hate crimes against LGBTQWERTY people, but that is nothing more than a perception created by mass media histrionics and deliberate disinformation about a phantasmagorical explosion of homophobic, misogynistic white supremacy in America. It is just as imaginary and manufactured as the perception that there has been a massive increase in hate crimes by white supremacists against Black Americans.

Get your silly hysteria under control, America! Stop being led around by the nose by mass media.

It is far safer to be gay in America than it is to be straight.

Just to be clear, “amen” comes from Biblical Hebrew, not Latin, and, of course, real progressives have nothing to do with this idiocy.

By the way, I hope nobody here ever dares to utter the sexist term “ramen,” which is deeply offensive and hurts women economically by discouraging them from pursuing lucrative careers in the noodle-making industry. Only use “ramen and rawomen” (or “raperson” for short).

Transphobic BS. Trans women have been competing in women's sports for decades...without winning a thing. They been able to compete in the Olympics since 2004...and none have even qualified.

If cis and trans women were 100% equal in ability, then 2-4 medals would have been won by trans women at the last Olympics...none even qualified.

Apart from anything else (like the strict hormone rules), only 6 in every 1,000 women is a trans woman. It's mathematically impossible for them to 'dominate women's sports'.

Transphobes have been claiming that trans women 'will destroy women's sports' for *checks notes* ..45 years now.

Lisa @139

Biden's executive order isn't about postoperative transsexuals but about males who choose to identify as females. It isn't transphobia to be offended by stupidity, and stupidity includes not being able to tell the difference between individuals who have had their genitalia excised and people who just "identify" in their minds as being something other than what they really are.

"Issues like the above, which is plainly unreasonable for anyone not drunk on 'librul' LGBTQWERTY cool aid, are a major reason why the U.S. is losing international respect."

Actually respect for the US rose massively when Biden won and did that (and ended the US's opposition to abortion). It was LGBTI (and woman) hating Trump that dragged it down, ending up the most unpopular President in American History.

You forget that at least 10% of the population are LGBTI. 3% are lesbians or gay men(LG), 5% are bisexual (B), 0.6% are trans (T) and 1.7% are intersex (I). Surveys in multiple countries show ever increasing for them, except amongst the tiny and dwindling far right and religious extremists. In Australia the vote for marriage equality was won by the YES case by a large majority.

It is sad that you cannot see through your own delusion. Most "Deplorables" support other people having different lifestyle choices. They just don't want creepy guys being allowed to use the same public restrooms as their daughters, or their daughters having to compete in their soccer league against teams full of creepy guys. Those "Deplorables" will fully support the creepy guys having a league of their own, or even playing in the regular guys' leagues, assuming the regular players don't have to be handicapped to allow the creepy guys to compete.

The raging delusions middle class white people in the West have create so many toxic contradictions in their societies, and the seem totally oblivious to those delusions. It is sad, and a tragedy for western culture.

Still it is too bad about some biological girls not getting their college athlete scholarships to be trained in neoliberalism stupidity. See there is a silver lining.

The issue boils down for me to the trannies insistence that I acknowledge their mental illness as if it were objectively "true".

Dress how you want, call yourself what you want, act how you want, but to insist that I must deny the evidence of my eyes and ears, that I must acknowledge thete is no difference between some bloke in a dress and an adult human female, is a step too far.

It is Orwell's O'Brien and the Party's insistence that not only must I say 2+2=5 but that I must come to believe that 2+2=5, brought to life.

Voltaire: “Those Who Can Make You Believe Absurdities, Can Make You Commit Atrocities”

These people insit that an obviously-male tranny's penis is really a "woman penis".

Its absurd and its purpose is both to train humans to deny the evidence of their senses and to deny us any meaningful vocabulary to describe what we see and hear.

@William Gruff #128:

The Russians have it right on this issue. Even hinting to underage children that hacking off/out their sex organs is some sort of "normal" should be a very serious crime.

It is not illegal in Russia to discuss gender reassignment with minors or even to promote gender reassignment to minors. The law passed in 2013 (in Russian) prohibits “propaganda of non-traditional sexual relations to minors.” So, for example, one can’t promote sex between men or sex between women or group sex to minors. I don’t know if BDSM and role reversal (“pegging”) are included in the law’s definition of “non-traditional sexual relations.”

Gender reassignment in Russia follows a protocol. One must first consult with a psychiatrist, who may or may not diagnose “transsexualism” (F64.0 in ICD-10). Sometimes the diagnosis allows one to immediately start taking hormones and undergo sex reassignment surgery. Other times, only hormones are allowed immediately, while the permission to undergo sex reassignment surgery takes up to two years of observation. Both require permission from parents if one is less than 18 years old. Neither are covered or even subsidized by the government, which in my opinion is wrong, as surgery is expensive and hormones must be taken for the rest of one’s life. When/if one is 18 or older, a special commission composed of a sexologist, a psychiatrist and a psychologist issues a certificate that gives one the right to be issued new documents with the new gender (and new gendered forms of the patronymic and the last name).

The problem is that, if one wants to really look like the opposite sex, one has to start taking hormones early. And for that to happen, parents must be receptive to the idea that their child may be of a different gender. It requires education of parents. By the way, if our society was better at identifying transgender people early and giving them hormones early, there would be no problem with admitting transwomen to women’s sports as their bone structure would be similar to XY women (Androgen insensitivity syndrome, Swyer syndrome), who are already admitted to women’s sports.

Posted by: Jackrabbit | Jan 23 2021 16:52 utc | 149

Although radical trans rights tend to be bundled as a 'progressive' package together with gay rights, they actually contradict gay and lesbian rights as well as women's rights.

A teenage woman in the past growing up being attracted to her own sex would understand herself as lesbian woman, while now she may be under pressure to see herself as a trans man instead, and may be encouraged to take puberty-blockers which can cause lasting damage.

‘I was not born in the “wrong body”’

‘When I was questioning my identity there was nowhere to find support that didn’t affirm the delusion of being in the “wrong body”. No organisations existed that might be able to tell me that it was okay to be a girl who didn’t like stereotypically “girly” things, and that I was no less female because I am same-sex attracted.

It was always a central tenet of feminism that being a woman isn't necessarily about wearing lipstick and a dress, but current trans activism reinforces those stereotypes.

Declaring that, in any conflict between gender norms and biology, that it is biology that must be wrong- that men who 'act' and 'feel' like women must in fact literally be women- is the height of reaction. Nothing comes from nothing, so what are these amorphous feelings based on? The existing socio-cultural trappings of gender, the repressive gender norms that progressive people once struggled against. By transgenderist logic, it is exactly these repressive socio-cultural trappings of gender that define one's sex, male or female, and nothing else: biology must be bent to fit gender norms via hormone therapy and the surgeon's knife.

S @ 148:

There are many troubling issues with what you suggest in your last paragraph, nearly all of which have been discussed in earlier comments.

"Transgender women" are now defined to include men who dress as women or who wish to occupy women's public physical spaces (such as public toilets) but who otherwise have no desire to transition to the opposite sex.

Children and young people are not deemed capable of giving consent to sexual relations under a certain age (because they are yet to reach psychological maturity; and while they are still developing, they may be vulnerable to manipulation and exploitation) so you need to demonstrate how they can give consent to changing their sex. A veritable industry of therapists and interest groups with the collusion of governments and pharmaceutical firms involved in transitioning children and adolescents from one sex to another has arisen. You need to ask why it seems easier to transition youngsters rather than deal with the discriminations that young people experiencing same-sex attraction or discovering they may be homosexual have.

Giving hormones and puberty blockers to young people changes their bodies in ways that are not necessarily equivalent to what women born with syndromes (where they may be chromosomally male but do not develop as male because the Y chromosome has a malfunction or something else overpowers it) experience as they grow up. Puberty blockers carry the risk of affecting proper bone development and causing later long-term health issues like osteoporosis. People having undergone gender reassignment might become a significant burden on their families as they may always need hormone treatment for the rest of their lives plus medication to deal with all the side effects of that treatment.

My understanding is that the Special Olympics were conceived originally to promote sporting and physical health and education opportunities for people with intellectual disability / cognitive impairment. The movement seems to have broadened since to now operated 'in tandem' with the Paralympics

I've found the background information about athletes with'abnormal' or
'edge of spectrum' endocrine function in this thread interesting. The problem here seems to me to be the opposite or antithesis of disability, in that it can in some cases confer a natural or innate advantage to some individuals ( in the thread context, a small number of affected biological females) in some narrow and specific functional domain (here athletics, etc).

In such (presumably rare) cases, this simplest approach would seem to me to allow participation and inclusion but to also formally recognise and take into consideration any exceptionally high degree of competitive advantage that may obtain.

William Gruff #140

Wrong. Each sport has rules about trans men and trans women, it not just 'identifying' they have to drop testosterone and take estrogen with strict limits set. Trans men take testosterone.

People who are not trans, always underestimate how powerful the effects HRT are. In trans women blood cell count drops (VO2max drop thus stamina drops), muscles fade away (strength fade away), fat distribution changes, breasts grow, skin thins, etc. This is even more so for trans female adolescents..who never have a male puberty, they have female one.

The converse is true for trans men, they grow more muscles, their red cell count increases.

Multiple studies show that meeting the rules trans women have no fact 30 years of sports records at all levels show they have a disadvantage. No sport, anywhere, has a trans woman competing at the top level.

Stastistically their success rate is at least 100th what it should be by numbers alone. Now few will compete anyway (let alone win) because there are so few of them, only 6 in every 1,000 women is a trans woman, however their competing rate is far less than that, and their win rate even lower.

So it's a transphobic BS, right wing (especially the religious right who hate all LGBTI people) lies.

45 years ago...yes 45 years..the exact same bigots were claiming the exact same things. So you'd think that anyone with any sort of intelligence would conclude ..with 45 years of evidence.. that it is not true.

Posted by: Lisa | Jan 24 2021 1:18 utc | 163

Trans people are fed up with the same old lies being brought up year after year..when year after year they are shown to be untrue.

Biden just reversed a Trump ruling allowing ALL LGBTI people to be discriminated against at work, in schools, sports, etc. Prior to that the vary same things that everyone thinks is new and 'the end of the world' happened...for years...with no issues.

And that is what really pisses LGBTI people off...none of you..not Bernard..complained when Trump ruled to let discrimination against us start.

Where were your 'concerns' when Trump ruled we could be fired?

I have a trans friend who served honorably in the fact was honored at the White House. When they left they joined the Reserves.

Thanks to Trump they were kicked out of the Reserves and fired from their Govt job, just for being transgender (and they lost their house).

That OK? Is hateful bigotry acceptable to you? OK to fire LGBTI people just for who they are? That's far (and religious) right stuff that has no place in a civilized society.

Many world sports federations have clear protocols to address each and every problem you listed, b. Trans women are only allowed to compete in official volleyball matches after SRS, years of HRT (which in turn leads to brittler bones and weaker muscles, like an artificial menopause) and they're submitted to a tighter testosterone limit compared to cis women. If the US are too fucked up to abide to such reasonable rules it's not the T community's fault.
