By Wrongly Calling The Capitol Rabble 'Terrorists' Joe Biden Will Likely Create Some

The hyperventilating over Wednesday's MAGA cosplay in the Capitol Building continues:

In a blistering speech one day after pro-trump supporters stormed the U.S. Capitol in an unprecedented security breach, U.S. President-elect Joe Biden said the perpetrators should be considered 'domestic terrorists'.

"Don't dare call them protesters. They were a riotous mob. Insurrectionists. Domestic terrorists. It's that basic. It's that simple."

That the incoming president declares a number of activist from the opposing party to be 'terrorists' demonstrates how unqualified he is for that job.

Is this a terrorist?

bigger

Those rabbles were in no way terrorists. They were not even a mob. Most of them were out-of-town rednecks who felt that they had been wronged. They wanted to express that. They were surprised when they found how easy it was to enter the Capitol and they apparently took more time to take pictures than to rearrange the furniture.

This was not a coup attempt either. These folks had no weapons, no training and, most importantly, they had no plan of what to do except to maybe enter to then leave:

And yet, and yet…. This was no Vietnam-level rioting. This wasn’t even a serious occupation, which one would think was the point, to keep Congress from executing the final ratification of the Biden win. Could you image the spectacle of democracy chastened if the Trump mob had held the Capitol and forced Congress to scramble find a hotel ballroom in which to finish their official business?

Nope, Congress was back in business by 8:00 PM, roughly seven hours after the barbarians stormed the walls, albeit with pretty much everyone badly rattled and some Trump supporters rapidly backpedaling from their former positions.

Despite the gravity of the event, if you look not very hard at what happened, both sides in their different ways were shambolic.

Another such view:

[L]et’s be clear about what did not take place at the Capitol Building last night. This was not a fascist coup, as so many shrill, supposedly liberal commentators are claiming. Their flagrant use of the word ‘fascist’ to describe every political movement they disapprove of is an insult to reason and history. This wasn’t a coup full stop. The National Guard suppressed the morons, the barricades were put back up, and even their hero Donald Trump told them to go home. A coup is a conscious effort to illegally seize power from the government. These people couldn’t even believe they made it into the Capitol Building. They were like children finding a candy store unguarded.

A children's game. Indeed.

bigger

There was also a curious lack of resistance from the relevant authority:

[Rep. Anna] Eshoo also blasted the Capitol Hill police, calling their lackluster response a “failure across the board” and describing the barricades outside the Capitol complex “like doggy doors … it was like, ‘Welcome, I’m taking you on a tour.’ ”

Lawmakers, she said, had gotten a detailed memo about street barricades and procedures, but when she arrived and looked across the Capitol Hill plaza, “I thought, where is everyone?”

bigger

These were not terrorists but tourists who came from all over the states to Washington for fun and to register their disagreement with the 'elites'. The Capitol Hill policeman correctly recognized that the protesters were not enemies of the state but rather normal Americans:

Maggie Haberman @maggieNYT - 4:16 UTC · Jan 8, 2021
Cops gave rioters directions to Schumer’s office but aimed a gun at a photographer and didn’t believe she was a journalist. Astonishing this is the level of security in the halls of a co-equal branch of government in the post-9/11 era.

Yet Biden and others are furious about the stunt because it lifted the veil off their vaunted U.S. 'democracy' and its empty rituals:

Nicholas J. Fuentes @NickJFuentes - 21:01 UTC · Jan 7, 2021
The US Capitol is hardly a “sacred temple of democracy,” it’s the sleaziest brothel in the world, totally bought and controlled by powerful interest groups and foreign governments. Who are they kidding?

Congressional processes are dirty fights about the distribution of the loot. There is nothing sacred about it. Just consider the massive bribes that were taken during the Georgia Senate races. Those hundreds of millions of 'donations' will have to be paid back in kind.

The real danger to the people does not come from those 'deplorables' who walked into the Capitol but from the 'elite' who will use the incident for their purposes:

The threat inflation, the wild claims about a fascist coup, are transparent efforts by the cosseted political and cultural elites to endow their project with moral importance; to give their restoration of managerial, technocratic power after the four-year populist experiment – which is fundamentally the project that Biden and his influential supporters are currently engaged in – the gloss of historical urgency. It is mission creation.

Worse, this narrative-building will allow the elites to circumscribe even more forms of political thought and speech than they already desire to do, on the basis that the latent fascism among the American rabble is likely to be stirred up by inflammatory ideas and commentary. Indeed, we’ve already been given a chilling glimpse of this post-incursion clampdown on ‘violent’ speech in Twitter’s extraordinary decision to ban, outright, three of Trump’s tweets last night and to lock him out of his account for 12 hours.

It strikes me that this unilateral use of corporate power by Silicon Valley to prevent the democratically elected president of the United States from engaging with millions of his voters and supporters, to physically forbid him from partaking in online discussion, is a grave assault on democracy, too. More grave, I would say, than the immoral and anti-democratic incursion of the Capitol Building. Already, right away, we are seeing that the threat-inflating response to last night’s events will likely have longer-lasting negative consequences for open debate and democratic norms than the thing itself.

It is even worse than that. The Democrats reaction to the slapstick action is likely to create more strife.

That Biden now falsely declares that the people who enter the capitol are terrorists, who thereby need to be handled as such, will deepen the rift within the U.S. society. It guarantees that some of the 'deplorables' who Biden designates as terrorists will become real ones. The U.S. military has ample experience with doing that in Iraq and elsewhere. During the early years of the occupation it designated legitimate resistance to the occupation as terrorism and thereby sowed the seeds for real terrorism.

An even worse strategy is to blame the whole incident on the 'terrorist leader' Donald Trump. During the rally that preceded the Capitol incident Trump did not tell the people to enter the building:

“I know that everyone here will soon be marching over to the Capitol building to peacefully and patriotically make your voices heard,” Trump told the crowd on Wednesday.

After the people had unexpectedly entered the Capitol building Trump asked them to leave:

He said: "I know your pain, I know you’re hurt. We had an election that was stolen from us, it was a landslide election and everyone knows it especially the other side.

"But you have to go home now, we have to have peace, we have to have law and order, we have to respect our great people in law and order. We don't want anybody hurt."

Some 74 million people voted for Trump. What will they do if the Democrats now unfairly try to impeach him over an incident he did not cause?

Do not expect them to ignore it or to change their opinions. This analogy is apt.

Careful what you wish for.
My research shows leaders often restrain lower level members.
So taking out the leader tends to make the group more — not less — radical in its tactical choices.
I have loads of empirical & theoretical work on this finding if you’d like to discuss.

Even the Islamic State foresees that this will lead to more strife within the U.S.:

[T]he bitter feeling of defeat that the supporters of the 'Taghut' Trump have expressed during their recent protests- which followed the protests of their adversaries from the supporters of the 'Democratic Party' during the past year- will push them to exert more effort and offer more support for their Taghut during the next four years or whoso stands with him alongside the seat of the presidency, in order to achieve revenge for themselves and achieve victory over their adversaries again. This means that the conflict between the two parties and their supporters inside America will be very intense, and the focus of the policies of the two parties during this time will be greater on the internal issues to guarantee gaining more electoral votes.

By using the 'terrorist' moniker Biden, and the media, are taking this thing into the wrong direction. It creates more extremism and will likely have bloody consequences.

"There is plenty of video evidence showing, that Trump supporters were trying to stop those who were leading the storm of the Capitol building."

Have you ever been party to a mass protest? There are always varied opinions in a large group. Intentionally representing the "good" protesters as Trump supporters and the "bad" ones as "those who were leading the storm of the Capitol building" is disingenuous. Not everyone in a protest is thinking the exact same as the person next to them, regardless of the original impetus for showing up.

I thought SyrianGirl had a pretty interesting take on the whole thing. First debunks some unlikely theories floating around, then points out in no uncertain terms that anyone who would label that shit terrorism has no idea what the real thing is like. Those who have been on the receiving end have no such delusions. She is quite hard on Trump for basically caving in, and predicts very hard times ahead for "deplorables" and all those who might be even tangentially linked to them--since after all, if we're calling it terrorism, you get all kinds of nifty new laws, surveillance, infiltration, and the like which become perfectly accepted.

Anyway, I think it's worth a few minutes of your time.

Isn't it ironic that, after years of 'liberal' whining about a 'Reichstag Fire' type event, it was Biden who actually got it? In that, this 'event', however you want to describe it, can, and probably will, be used for a gigantic crackdown on civil liberties.

David Mizner, on Twitter, pointed out that in response to the Oklahoma Bombing, Clinton passed the Effective Death Penalty Act of 1996 which gutted Habeas Corpus. We will be very lucky if the new Democratic controlled Congress (and Senate) only passes legislation that is as oppressive as that.

One can expect Trump appointed judges (who, as Trump's appeal against Democratic vote rigging showed, have little loyalty to him or the Republicans, and are happy to decide against him and them when it suits them) to provide little or no 'pushback' to this.

Posted by: Hidari | Jan 9 2021 9:40 utc | 217

Alex in Oz @ 193:

The Russia Segodnya report did not identify the police officer hit by the tossed fire extinguisher as Brian Sicknick. There may have been other police officers also hit by fire extinguishers that day. There had been early reports that fire extinguishers were being used as projectiles.

Unfortunately details of the attack on Sicknick and the other injuries he suffered are vague. We do not even know if he had to be helped back to his division office or was able to return on his own two feet. That is also crucial information.

At this point in time I remain sceptical. It seems clear that a lot of the reporting coming out is biased. As you suggest, there may have been infiltrators present among the protesters inciting violence so as to blame the protesters and set them up for arrest and justify a crackdown on people's First Amendment rights of peaceful assembly and to petition politicians without fear of reprisal.

I'm not sure i would be as lenient in letting Trump off the hook.

Trump is the king of innuendo and mixed messaging, he may not always explicitly express what he means, but his tacit endorsement of previous violence, inflammatory rhetoric and insistence on spreading misinformation, in particular about the election, makes him at the very least indirectly responsible.

It's also pretty clear there was some level of cooperation by Police, either at an individual level, through some shared agenda with protesters and sympathy with those looking to make a political statement, or perhaps a more sinister coordinated effort to finally bury Trump and let him hang on his own rope, so to speak.

As for the terrorism, i totally agree.

In fact, i was already expecting it before this election, but no doubt things will degenerate further at some point. The interesting part will be when domestic anti Gov't groups will be fuelled, financed and materially supported by the now infinite list of foreign enemies the US has gained through the very actions they will soon be the victims of themselves. From Iran's MEK, to China's Uighurs and Russia's Chechens, the list of foreign groups that became terrorists on the CIA payroll is endless. One can be certain there is a long line of foreign Governments with an open chequebook ready to support every tinfoil-hat-wearing dejected deplorable freedom fighter in 'taking his country back'..

Oh, the irony of seeing a Commie-bashing, China-hating racist redneck xenophobe terrorise his fellow citizens with means and materials paid for by China's Communist Party!

That the incoming president declares a number of activist from the opposing party to be 'terrorists' demonstrates how unqualified he is for that job.

Nope. Just the opposite. Trump is fomenting chaos over his bruised ego while thousands of people die every day and a literal war is happening every day inside hospitals!!!

Biden is right to put a lid on a fire incited by a Ziofascist's f*cking vanity; a Ziofascist who has demonstrated he cares squat about the 380,000 who died and their grieving loved ones! Trump wants to start a sideshow war and chaos while the country is already at war!

Nipping this insanity of anarchy over a thug, a goon a depraved Ziofascist who can't accept loss of power is the right thing to do! It's a moral act at a time when compassion is dying and ego and fascist supremacy is trying to dominate.

Trump's followers are stung by the fact that he won't and can't protect them, but will save his own skin from something he tried to abuse his power to skirt...THE LAW. Trump has destroyed everyone who did his dirty work. Don't his supporters see that or do they imagine they are immune to the Law as he is while still President??? Trump's cult need a wake up call before more invest in the ruinous project of one man's gigantic ego and monumental deception at the expense of all else!

Twitter was right to take Trump down, while the Law still can't! Trump who set up the most depraved, apathetic, fascist, opaque executive should pay dearly for what he's done. He should go down historically in total disgrace. All the honors bestowed upon a President who returns to being a normal citizen should be stripped from him!

I would like to take this opportunity to state that antifa is not a group, it's an activity like dancing or singing or fucking. If you dance/sing/fuck is that all that you are? Black bloc is a tactic that can be used by anyone. It's not an "antifa" thing. If any group were to be associated with black bloc tactics it would be left-wing anarchists.

Apple and Google are now shutting down social media apps on iOS and Android devices that allow discourse that challenges the establishment narrative. Oligarch Jack Dorsey's banning of Twitter users whose viewpoints he doesn't like has gone into overdrive. Oligarch Zuckerberg already had Facebook pretty much locked down against anti-establishment views. The original author of the USA Patriot Act, Joe Biden, has the Patriot-Act-on-Steroids ready to go and in the current climate it will likely be passed through Congress and the Senate even before Kamala-Joe is seated on the throne. The large-scale social media commons are now as we speak being purged of any dissident voices, except of course controlled dissent, and even before Patriot Act^2 is on the books big business will be cracking down on the blogosphere and dissident analysis sites that are currently not managed by the empire.

Analysts like b and Caitlin Johnstone are on different continents from the imperial homelands, so they may be spared in the immediate future. Unfortunately they are based in countries occupied by the empire so it is now only a matter of time before they are "cancelled" or otherwise fall under imperial "narrative management" as well.

Don't worry b! If the empire decides to "manage" content on MoA, the takeover, though hostile, will come with hefty financial compensation. The empire likes to try to use "market forces" as much as possible because that is what the empire is all about.

The establishment has plans for some dark and Orwellian days ahead for the citizens of the empire. An anti-establishment uprising can never be allowed to happen again in the imperial heartlands and "preventative measures" might even go so far as drone strikes on "terror cells" of Identity Politics deniers in the Montana countrysides and the Florida swamps.

Having total top-down control over the narrative du jour is an incredibly powerful tool of social control, but I wonder if it is enough? It seems particularly weakened by the astonishing incompetence of the empire's narrative spinners, but I suppose that is why they are moving full speed ahead with attaching the label of "domestic terrorism" to dissent. That suggests that the establishment no longer has faith in its "Mighty Wurlitzer" narrative control and feels the need to ready some kinetic options on the table.

By the way, 100% of the people in this thread hyping the official narrative of "domestic terrorism" are here as parts of the CIA's "Mighty Wurlitzer". Some are even drawing salaries. I figure most readers already guessed that with regards to the newcomers, but take note of the regulars who are carrying water for the establishment and keep it in mind when reading their future posts.

I do so love these "interesting times", even if they are a curse!

Re despicable nonsense from Triden et al. about how the policeman who died was walking. Blows to the head can and do cause damage resulting in fatal strokes long after the blow. That's why you hear tell---even in the movies and TV---about observation of patients. Liam Neeson's wife Natasha Richardson struck her head in a skiing accident and died much later. Phrases like crushed are hyperbolic but imply the killing was by the rioters was true. Phrases about strokes imply the rioters didn't kill the man. But that was yet another lie.

You're absolutely right; Trump’s groupies are crawling out of the woodwork around here, spewing lies and nonsense, indulging in childish name-calling, utterly unaware that their boss has already thrown them under the bus. Realizing, finally, that he has made himself liable to criminal prosecution and/or removal from office, (see below) he has switched sides and now castigates them and threatens them with prosecution.

A president who is mentally ill will, naturally, draw supporters who are mentally ill. Add in massive ignorance, and you have a highly explosive situation, waiting only for the strike of a vandal’s match.

@Posted by: librul | Jan 9 2021 5:39 utc | 189

“On the first day I’m inaugurated, I’m going to ask the public for 100 days to mask. Just 100 days to mask — not forever, just 100 days. And I think we’ll see a significant reduction” in the virus, Biden said.

The PCR test for Covid-19 is highly contestable,
it's statistical results can be altered by adjusting the cycles in the PCR test ("Cycles Threshold" aka Ct).
Biden will "ask" for 100 days of masking and at the same time the PCR cycles will be lowered per CDC "guidelines".
Can you spell statistical slight-of-hand?

Voila! The MSM will declare Biden a hero and "presidential" after statistics show a 100 day miracle.

Posted by: librul | Jan 9 2021 14:52 utc | 268

Standing back, it occurs to me that the real indignation at Biden calling the rioters terrorists is because terror directed against Communism is not terror but an auto da fe, a patriotic exercise. Biden and the vast majority of people who want to reduce the rioters to white supremacists are falsifying the anticommunist impulse because they share the same (lack of) moral principles that endorses intimidating and killing Communists and suppressing democracy to fight Communism. Inciting a riot? The vast majority of liberals, including those who imagine they are leftists, have been spouting nonsense for decades, abusing the minds of the American people every bit as much as Trump. It must be galling to see such magnificent hypocrisy as Biden, as much an anti-Communist as Roy Cohn, one of Trump's mentors, ignoring the noble dedication of the rioters to his, Biden's, very own cause.

  1. Denounce them. ("deplorables")
  2. Threaten their social and economic status. (diversity, gender-neutral, socialism, etc.)
  3. Silence their leaders. (deplatforming)

Democrats/the Left are doing a piss-poor job at unifying the country after their "victory". Instead, a b notes, they are escalating their rhetoric (Biden: "terrorists"; Pelosi: warns of Trump-initiated nuclear war) and censoring and being vindictive (another impeachment? c'mon) instead of trying to calm tensions.

Paid trolls are an unfortunate reality in modern social media in capitalist societies. This is because aside from bots such trolls are the only way for businesses to market their products on social media, whether that product happens to be a soft drink, a narrative, or an entire ideology.

But how to get a forum to consume one's marketing spiel? You cannot just join a discussion among free (libra) software developers and say "Hey guise! Have you considered using Microsoft Windows? The girls will be all over you if you do!" Rather, you can, and that was in fact part of Microsoft's astroturf war against open source back before they lost the fight, but such crude methods tend to not yield good return on investment. Instead the professional troll trains to sound like and post like genuine members of the community in order to insert their poison without being automatically ignored. For an example, the Microsoft astroturfer might spread his FUD by saying "I always use Linux and I was trying to do XYZ last night on my Linux box but it kept crashing. I had to boot into Windows to get it done."

That is still fairly obvious astroturfing though and nowadays the paid trolls spend much more time trying to build their fake persona than trying to inject their marketing payloads into the discourse. The imperial spox assigned to a forum that is anti-empire will thus spend a great deal of effort building up his anti-imperialist bona fides by trash talking relatively safe aspects of the empire to criticize. For example the paid empire spox might heavily criticize the empire's war on Iraq, which is safe as everyone already agrees that war was bad. On the other hand, the imperial representative in the forum will try to inject FUD into discussions deconstructing ongoing imperial operations that require current public buy-in, such as the color revolution attempt in Hong Kong in 2019 or a domestic election in more subtle ways such as "Yeah, but this Hong Kong cop used harsh language! There is no call for that!".

But then there are events like the "riots" in DC this week that require all-hands-on-deck emergency narrative control. In these cases the maintenance of the false personae of the troll armies takes a back seat to the need for an enormous multi-channel chorus in perfect harmony to establish the artificial narrative about the event. That means we are currently in a rare position to very easily identify many such astroturfers by noting which online personae are now chanting in unison with the establishment. Do make careful note of these personae because when the establishment's need for narrative firefighting recedes these personae will return to trying to build their anti-establishment bona fides. Don't be fooled by it. Those who are carrying the establishment's water right now have always been and will always be establishment tools, regardless of what they say tomorrow.

Believe it or not (and I too often find it difficult to believe) cops are human beings. They've gone through a year of "Defund the police!" hysteria and probably look on Trump supporters as allies, even if those Trump supporters are anti-establishment. From the cops' perspective the nation is moving in a direction that reduces their status and puts them at greater risk. Whether one considers that a good or bad thing you can bet the cops don't approve of it.

I see nothing sinister in the cops being all chummy with these particular protesters.

I presume you are speaking of amplification cycles.
I do agree the Democrats have an incentive to drag out lockdowns and COVID rules into November 2022 - because the normal anti-President reaction is going to be amplified into a Red Wave by the anger over this election (justified or not).
But PCR testing isn't the culprit. 0.5% or less false positive/false negative isn't a big deal. And COVID is going to keep spreading because the US is heavily anti-vax - both limousine liberal left "all naturals" and now deplorable anti-left conservatives and ex-small business owners.

Don't forget, only 7% of Americans are tested positive for COVID. This means at best, 20% of the population has had it = 80% have not.
Vaccination won't do a damn thing - you need probably 80%+ vaccination to "stop COVID in its tracks" and we'll not hit even 40% vaccination by the end of 2021. Too much profit for it to be given away free...
Plenty of room for COVID to continue to spread.

And for all those pro-lockdown people out there: California has been under lockdown continuously since March 2020. COVID is only getting worse over time - California was THE worst performing COVID infection state in December per unit of population.
Lockdowns will not stop/has not stopped COVID.

When ya gonna start reporting on Q dispatches, B? You forget how al summer the American right was crying about respecting the cops and property? It’s a shame that your new authoritarian hero signed an EO this summer making everyone of those people get 10 years in a Fed prison.

It got to the point it did because the cops were sympathetic. American cops are a right wing paramilitary group. It wasn’t some grand conspiracy to make Trump look bad or undercut his power. It was a bunch of marks that were taken in by a conman allowed to do stupid shit cause the cops are idiot marks for the same conman and true believers.

And it is terrorism because we’d apply that label if it was happening anywhere else. So a hearty welcome home to our foreign policy. It was bumbling, poorly executed terrorism evidenced by the fact that if they were good at it they would have been successful. Instead they learned that they’re just marks for a conman who turned on them as soon as their actions created potential legal repercussions for him. Next they’ll learn that his tax cuts weren’t for them either and their taxes will be going up every year thanks to their idol.

And because of them the deep state/security state will only be expanded. The whole cruel joke is the encapsulating in the “don’t tread on me” flag lady getting trampled or the pudgy old white dude shooting himself in the nuts with a taser and having a heart attack. A dead cop doesn’t bother me a bit. They could have burned the place down for all I care. They didn’t because they’re marks who still believe in the bullshit myths of America. They’re not gonna enjoy life in a failed state either.

I want to again thank Gruff for his peerless and elucidating pattern-identifying comments.

It is for the best that twitter, facebook, and big tech keep showing themselves for what they are, even if our fearless-leader is silenced. This invites a few conclusions of which have already been posited by this poster, but nonetheless are necessary to repeat:

1) Tyrannies are, by nature, dumb. Why? Because they seek to overthrow what is natural. Tyrannies are the dumb rocks who think they have it heads-and-tails over water. But it doesn't take long, perhaps a blink of the eye in geologic "deep time" for water to demonstrate and illustrate its natural superiority. The extracting class, of which our government now provides the means to reveal itself in safety, has no redeeming qualities, not even that of rock. I can not find a proper metaphor or synonym for such a class of people, because in the world's natural processes, even the lowliest phenomenon, such as pond scum, has a great and noble significance in the order of things. The best I can ascribe to the globalist class is that they are Satan's tools.

But I admit on immediate reflection, it seems as though the establishment played its card correctly in their handling of this situation and have been able to harness the phrase "insurrectionist" to great use. Looking left and right, DJT is fading from the spotlight of the media, or being treated with the same feeling (though we should probably say indignation) as how the media covers school shooters or gunmen in general. For ratings sake and because people want to know what the gunmen looks like and his story, the media posts his name and attempts to interview the gunmen's family; it is only after the ratings storm begins to wane and advertising revenue can not be further extracted that they virtue-signal by announcing: "Out of respect of the victim's families, we are not going to name the shooter when we reference them."

But an immediate victory does not mean a win in the war. And this is where the huge blindspot of tyrannies reside. The dialectical force of history is moving forward like great tectonic plates. And earthquakes follow without fail.

2) What should have worried us deplorables far more during DJT's presidency would have been his attempt to place the government into the fray with social media and the MSM. What resonated with conservatives was his ability to speak plainly and truthfully about these forces with the simple phrase: fake news. This is a far greater tactic than forever aligning social media with the government so that, as there are millions of middle-brow-class who honestly believe that PBS and NPR are neutral forces and so hang on to their reporting with the same jealous zeal as bible-thumpers, government can simply say, "Nothing to fear, we are protecting you dear citizen from dangerous information."

But I will again say that what is happening now is the best thing that can happen for deplorables and the United States, if we are to remain united. There is still a slim shot at purging globalists (anything is possible with God) but I sense that a weakening of the federal system as the economy explodes with provide the impetus for interior regions who still identify proudly as Americans to attempt secession.

In many ways, what is happening with DJT, right now, had to happen for this movement to continue. And by movement I mean the increasing hesitancy by conservatives in the interior and beyond to condone or offer consent to the federal government, in anything they do. (That is why I have consistently pleaded for populist-progressives to acknowledge that no coalition can be formed to truly dethrone the MIC in this country without "reaching across the aisle" to the flyover-deplorables wrt Medicare-for-all; indeed, any type of large-scale federal program implemented without the help of 75 million Americans will result, perhaps, in federal legislation aimed at passing some kind of Medicare-for-all, but without the aid of the other half of America, holding our politicians accountable in implementing such a system will be a great fraud which they will harness to enrich the elites in this country even than now and the result will alienate deplorables even more from coastal-progs (to the great benefit of the elite); This is why I am sorry to say that Jimmy Dore's moment will pass if he does not quickly change focus to the ongoing assault on conservative-deplorables and attempt some kind of uniting coalition)

Is it right now a stretch to say that conservative-deplorables hold the key to undoing the whole heretical-hold on our Federal system? How often do we hear the phrase and to what truth does it hold?: "You can not attack the system from inside." Well, my friends, it would seem that those joy-riders who broke off from the truly "largely-peaceful" event at the Capital to storm the legislature and *gasp* SAT IN PELOSI'S CHAIR, were indeed the spear of such a negating force necessary to propel history forward.

And what do we see on the other end of the populist movement with the Progs?: We see a comedian in L.A. yelling and taking personal the fact that they were never going to listen to him in the first place. So why be surprised, Jimmy? You need to work through your 12-steps of grief a little faster. It is the only way you can properly identify what must be done to save our country, even if you are only motivated by revenge, which I believe is not the case.

Conservative deplorables must unite with progs and for this to happen, they must have their own little truth and reconciliation moment. Identity politics must be shunned. The culture of death, both abroad and domestic, whether bombing browns, threatening Russia, Iran, or Venezuela, or aborting inconvenient lives, must be dismissed. Surely, in an effort to finally wipe out the MIC in this country, progs can sacrifice a holy cow or two, such as the right to kill another life, in an effort to usher in a greater period of peace? Do you indeed realize that, having the choice between funding Medicare-fora-all or the MIC, that most of us will probably want to retain healthcare domestically and dispense with bombing internationally?

So seize on the opportunity. Do not dismiss deplorables who see nothing in D.C. which remotely resembles benevolence. Deplorables: recognize that the great lie of American exceptionalism and bombing abroad for Jesus is not what the Good Lord asks.

This is a land of plenty and yet we work tirelessly for the extractor class. We will all burn unless a good-faith coalition can be formed.

Half a million, maybe a million?
If that many people were trying to hurt something, wouldn't they have managed to do a little more damage than almost none at all?
Hardly the 'storming of the Bastille'. Labelling 75 million American voters as terrorists in their own country? They have not invented a word to describe that kind of stupid. It's the whole family acts as if the government and the Republican party are their own personal property for their own personal benefit. It's all part of behavior indicative of someone who's been raised with a golden spoon and never had to answer to anyone in a real job. The minute something goes wrong, he looks to point figures at everyone else because he's never had to answer for his screw-ups. Even when he went bankrupt, he did it in such a big way that he was coddled by the banks. And the guy doesn't change or become humbled when he's been caught red-handed. Watching the spectacle from a far a couple of things stand out for me.

This event has really put the fear of God into the DC political class. When you see the photos of the politicians during this event you see real fear. I bet not one of them ever thought that the people would be so fed up with the DC political class that they would storm the Capitol to show their frustration. Such behaviour was simply un-American. It was things you saw on TV happening in far away places. Never would such scenes ever happen in the good ole’ USA.

The second thing that stands out for me is that the American people have reached their wits end with the political class and are prepared to do what no-one ever thought they would do. Storm the Capitol! Disorganised as it was. What can they achieve with real organisation!

So now the people realise they have power in a collective and this power has put the fear of God in the people they despise. This has truly been a transformative event both for the political class and both for the people.

You can see this fear in the hysterical way the DC political class has reacted to this event. I don’t think this hysteria is fake. I think it is quite real. They are so desperate to regain control of the “narrative” that they are flooding this forum (as pointed out eloquently by William Gruff, and no doubt many other forums) with sock puppets to denounce anyone who disagrees with the establishment view.

This hysteria is going to lead to an over reaction which will in turn spur these people not just to lob a Molotov cocktail (politically speaking) at the DC political class but to become one themselves.

There is nothing so dangerous as a person with nothing to lose and nothing so fearful as a man with everything to lose.

How it will play out I don’t know, but the old normal has been shattered.

Posted by: Down South | Jan 9 2021 17:00 utc | 284

Correct, the incursion into the Capitol building was not a coup attempt. It was an explosion of frustration over their dear leader becoming unelected in a "rigged" election. Still, this event follows upon another incursion into the Michigan State Capitol building by a group of heavily armed protesters. How long will it be before one such group decides to put their high-powered weaponry to use? This possibility is reason for legitimate concern and explains some of the hyperbole being used to describe what happened earlier this week.

But there has been a genuine coup attempt underway since the election in November. That would be Trump's denial of the election results and his efforts to overturn them through judicial and other means. Technically, this is known as an auto-coup. It has failed, but the fact that a sitting President would make the attempt shocks the conscience. It indicates that Donald Trump is a fascist at heart, as are the tens of millions of his loyal followers who believe that he should remain President, elections be damned.

Somehow it is well deserved, matters of state should not be trivialized by bringing them down to a vaporous platform like Twitter or FaceBook. As far as I know neither Merkel, Putin nor Xi Jinping have twitter accounts.

But on the other hand, and I think you wont’ disagree, a vulgar commercial place for screaming and insulting should not be the place to resolve matters of state, neither have the power to censor the President of the USA. It is scary the power wielded by those clowns and they should be brought down to measure, to start with they should pay taxes, like any other neighbor’s son.

B, you are so disappointing with this take, and I'm very surprised. Also, LEGO Viking is a known white supremacist. They go to BLM protests too. The cops were in in this. Politicians and off duty cops were among the rioters. Capital police rolled out the red carpet for these folks and let them in. America is showing its whole ass and better not EVER lecture another nation democracy, human rights, and the rule of law ever again.

"The Boot Is Coming Down Hard And Fast"

Biden has announced plans to roll out new domestic terrorism laws in the wake of the Capitol Hill riot.

Biden's 100-day masking ("symbolic submission and silencing", ht:Norwegian) will go from voluntary to mandated.

After a statistical sleight of hand the 100-days of submission and silencing
will *prove *vital to public safety. And under the new Biden domestic terrorism laws (what Orwellian name will it be given? Anyone.)
*not* wearing of masks will be deemed a proven public threat and, voila, is thus Terrorism
under the new Biden domestic terrorism laws.

And if *not* wearing of a mask is terrorism then
not being silent about it (non-submission) will be declared "promoting terrorism".
And if you are associated with a promoter of Bidenian Terrorism then you
too are a supporter of terrorism.

None of this should bother Democrats as they are natural totalitarians.

A reminder (as though you needed a reminder):

Department of Defense
is more appropriately named
Department of Fear
or
Department of Fear and Safety

But that is the sad story of the exceptional nation, the tools used to subjugate foreign heathens are returning home like a boomerang, with gained speed, in other words, the chickens are coming home to roost.

For a highly informed and informative analysis of "Trumpism," its past, its effects and its future, I highly and enthusiastically recommend this --

Attack on Capitol Affirms Trumpism Will Live On After Trump Leaves White House

Though I consider Giroux's use of quotes from Masha Gessen a serious lapse in judgment, the commentary nevertheless provides a banquet's worth of food for thought.

Trump and caused the ultimate sin, do to his actions he has caused the brave congress people that are so willing to sow death and destruction on other countries to be shown cowering on the floor when Trump sign carrying folks come knocking.
The metrics look like the protesters got used like so many other times. If I was in congress I would be royally pissed I was being used for cannon fodder for someone else agenda. The police force was inadequate for a rally let alone a protest and I think it has more that an inept Police captain to do with it. The really telling part (not that it will happen ) is who gets arrested for breaking in and who doesn't . Meanwhile the game of my team vs your team will continue while their team walks away with the trophy.

@288 librul

You're the one that spins and twists to the point of ridiculous exaggeration and hysteria.

That's what radically-biased hacks like you do. Bidenian Terrorism my ass! Who cares what new crackpot theory you're peddling? You have zero credibility.

Posted by: Circe | Jan 9 2021 17:52 utc | 294

b, you're assembling a series of closeup shots that stress the comical quality of some of the rioters, while airbrushing out the very serious, to the point of being deadly, nature of some of the others. You've lost all sense of balance here, and are operating like the inverse of the NYTimes propaganda mill. Anyone who's familiar with the makeup of the militia Right in the US will tell you that if they had actually gotten hold of one of their most hated Representatives, such as Pelosi or AOC, they would have been seriously injured or killed. That's why Babbitt -- who was not in the militia but was part of wave containing them -- was killed. The weak security + situational uncertainty appeared to justify deadly force to back the rioters down.

I agree that Biden throwing around the 'terrorist' term is stupid. Calling them vacationers is getting there. Do you think they should have been given Mai-Tais?

Ziofascists and NeoNazis - Supremacists of a different stripe who hate each other, but find common ground with Trump because he's a combo of both.

This is who many of you are cheerleading here.

Biden has announced new draconian measures to gain submission and to silence
American Freedoms.

But first! We must give the Deep State Democrats a loud "Congratulations with Clapping!"
for their brilliant narrative control after the Capitol mob action.

The treasonous Democrats never skipped a beat over the last four years in
attacking and trashing the Constitution with their attempt to coup the POTUS
and disenfranchise millions upon millions of his voters.

Now Treasonous Traitor Democrats have pulled what is called in wrestling a reversal aka The Switch.

With their brilliant narrative control Traitorous Democrats flipped on top and their very **real** attack
upon the Constitution these last four years will not incur any very deserved prosecutions.

In the wake of this brilliant narrative control the Bidenians will institute new measures to
attack our freedoms.

I once believed that the corrupt and totalitarian DNC was incongruous with the character
of Democratic *voters*. But we won't have long to wait before Democratic voters will hail
Biden's new fear laws
because Democrats are natural totalitarians.
