The conservative movement is running on the fumes of a culture war they’ve already lost. The Democrats, the oldest bourgeois party in America and now the party with the biggest tent, has once again taken all policy ground from them. What the Republicans have now is sentimental attachment to a number of symbols which are now all but stripped of their content. What they are attached to is a nostalgic cultural atmosphere and a “way of life,” the latter of which is not going anywhere (at least for those who choose to live it) but which they insist is on the brink of extinction as secularism comes to once again supplant Christianity as the default civic posture.
The Republicans, being such a strictly culturally-focused party, have little in the way of economic analysis beyond a blind insistence on the sanctity of private property (a stance which led to far right “libertarian” opposition to the Civil Rights Act). They are unable to see how their cultural shibboleths vaporize in the face of economic development and growth. While sometimes they manage to point to real causes of the dissolution (on the aggregate) of the nuclear family and so on, such as the entry of both spouses into the workforce, they are unable to turn back the clock, to reverse the entropy that the operation of “free markets” has generated without sacrificing the economic basis they love so much (private property and its sanctity).
The RNC will be as big a shit show as the DNC, and it will be completely sincere and completely lacking in ironic tone. Whereas the Democrats at least made some room for their left flank, there is no longer a left flank of the Republican party to speak of within the party itself. What I think we’re witnessing is the Republican party in a slow dissolution of its current form, with the 2016 election being its violent death rattle. If the RNC is as embarrassing as I imagine it will be given their speaker invites, it may represent the final gasps of life of the conservative movement before its reconstitution into a straightforward nationalist party stripped of the “free market” rhetoric, and this exists now in embryonic form. The future of the Republican Party is Tom Cotton’s authoritarian nationalism and the cronyism of the Trump family and their executive branch accomplices.

Actually, after only a quick review of some of the news reports, it appears that the Senate Committee placed great importance on the “fact” that Russia was involved in the “hacking” of emails from the DNC. This suggests that the Committee relied on the same intelligence sources that fabricated the Russiagate scenario in the first place. I guess that the Republicans on the Committee have not kept up with revelations that there is no evidence of any such hacking. Hence, the Committee’s conclusions are likely based on the same old disinformation and can be readily dismissed.

Sadly, Trump must be defeated dspite the DNC’s best efforts to make Biden lose.
Biden must be elected in spite of, and to actually to spite the DNC, whose corporate sponsors prefer Trump.
A Trump win won’t do anything to move any future election leftward from the abyss.
DNC never learns they can only be infiltrated and exposed and pressured. Losing is the best cover for what the corporate sponsors want. Nor can DNC be replaced, they’ve “owned” the lefter side for over 200 years with a few exceptions. The other side has been replaced and mutated at least once to better follow extreme capitalist principles.
Trump can’t be exposed for doing dastardly things, since that’s the religion of RNC anyway, and everyone follows in lock step.
Biden has appeareances to keep, and therefore is more subject to exposure and pressure in the public interest.
