today we celebrate the quaint notion that something called a “father” exists and is a beneficial thing for its progeny. the idea of having a “father” will soon be eliminated from the human experience as we move toward the transhumanist future our sociopathic rulers have been planning for us.

Lizard has forgotten that somewhere deep within the mass of governed exist humanity. Oppressed and mislead Humanity has a way of rising to the challenge of independence and democracy no matter the odds. I think the governed of the world are fast moving toward a new kind of government, a global government that does not tell the governed what it must do, a government that has a court system that monitors persons in power and convicts and punishes them when the governors use their power or position to deceive or infringe human rights. People are tired of being told when they must do whatever, when they must join a military and learn a fighting skill so they can go kill someone in a foreign land they never met, cannot speak their language and cannot understand their culture, just so some corporation and its oligarch owner can make a few bucks.
The new world government I see is one that responds to the collective will of the masses and punishes all who abuse any power, that detracts from the quality of live of anyone. .
Never before have the tools (internet) been in place for the governed in the entire world, irrespective of their individual languages, individual cultures, individual religions, individual educations and their individual experiences within the named nation state that has top down controlled their lives and dictated their every goal from birth to death, been so collectively together. Most have come accustomed to being bombed on, shot at, imprisoned, fined and had their lives destroyed by the leaders who have maintained the reins of power by and through the top down highly dictatorial nation state system. The coming new world i think will see no top down authoritarian leadership, the governed are going to dictate to those they appoint to run the government, and the government will serve only those it governs. Never again will the governed allow the corporations or other entities and organizations and oligarchs to be in charge or to govern by a proxy managed government. Government in nation state form is over. its had it. the clash between those with power and the collective power of humanity is about to begin?
I see this coming.. it may a week, a month, a century but I believe humanity has had enough of being manipulated by the governments it is born into.

It’s a function of the fact that only two political parties are allowed to function so we get a choice between two buffoons (at every level). Where other countries have half a dozen parties and more choices., the US is often stuck with two look-alikes. Ralph Nader wrote a book about the difficulties he had — “Crashing the Party.” It’s another example of a lack of democracy in a “democratic” (not) country.

So Trump wants less testing for the virus. I mean, how blatant can that asshat get? I supposed now we’ll have all the trolls coming in to say Trump is right, the only reason we have a pandemic is because we’re testing people. That isn’t any more moronic than the stuff they’ve been saying here so far.
As for the other “despised individual”, Biden is likely to win the election despite being brain-dead. After all, how much more brain-dead can he be than Trump?
Meanwhile, if you don’t want to be ruled by an authoritarian government…well, what exactly are you doing about it? Besides bitching in the comments here, that is.
“Humanity will rise to the occasion”… Good luck with that. Next you’ll be telling us about the Tooth Fairy leaving a stimulus check under your pillow. Some humanity may rise to the occasion…but it won’t be those bitching on the Internet.

This makes no sense. The people in your hypothetical world will just be born into the new world government , which they had no part in choosing. A government which will be even easier to infiltrate buy the controllers then the current systems. The answer is more governments, more nations, and more distinct ideas. Not a an all powerful monolithic control grid.

Re Peresvet. Some random thoughts.
– Laser technology moved beyond my knowledge/understanding when I realised that physical lenses have a finite melting-point which, in theory, would limit the temperature of a focused laser beam.
– I couldn’t help noticing that the trailer on which Peresvet is mounted has 5 axles. The only thing I can imagine which would be heavy enough to need 5 axles is a huge magnet or array of magnets. We know it’s not a power-supply because the article says that another vehicle supplies power for the device. The Large Hadron Collider is a very powerful particle accelerator and uses powerful permanent & electro-magnets to accelerate and contain the particles. What if Peresvet is a portable particle accelerator? Protons and/or neutrons would probably pack a much bigger wallop than photons.
– There’s a heavy emphasis on PRECISION in the article so my guess is that whether Peresvet is a photon accelerator or a particle accelerator, it’s a system designed to focus several intersecting “beams” from widely dispersed transmitters onto a single point in space, and move the point to wherever it’s needed, for as long as necessary…

Thank you, b, for directing us to the National Interest story about the South Korean US Embassy incident. Given that we have been considering Putin’s essay, I felt it appropriate to read about the ambassador’s misdirected quote from the Kennedy speech:

You can be forgiven for thinking that doesn’t quite sound like our thirty-fifth president, John F. Kennedy, who died about twenty-five years before “diversity” (of innate traits, not ideas) became the synonym for virtue among our educational, cultural, and ultimately corporate elite. Indeed, Kennedy was directing his words to Soviet Premier Nikita Khrushchev, hoping to convince the belligerent communist leader that the free world and the communist bloc could coexist peacefully—a diversity of government systems. The speech had nothing to do with race, something that takes about twenty seconds on the internet to confirm.

I actually read the CNN article just to see a train wreck. I usually skip right over any CNN article that they label as “analysis” or “opinion” because, why waste my time? It is mostly just hand-waving and verbal diarrhea and telling us Putin is bad, with no specifics, of course.
One has to read all the way to the end to find a weak admission that yes, it really was Soviet sacrifices that defeated the Nazis. As for the title, “Putin rewrites World War II history — and does battle over historical memory”, it doesn’t really match the actual essay. It’s amazing how often this happens on CNN (and other places). Perhaps they assume that almost no one will actually read past the click-bait headline?
Personally, I would be too afraid to “have a beer” with Putin – he is one scary dude. Only a complete fool would ever double-cross him. When he talks, his words reflect reality as I understand it. The world sure could use more of his kind of truth-telling.

I must say that is an appealing idea, snake@2! And in conjunction with it, I would suggest that with the vastly increased wealth the new central government will obtain, a new home for the present United Nations could best be located at the South Pole, given our planet’s increased warming and forging our world state government on a continent that has no previous history of warfare. This would require all nations to give up spurious claims in that vicinity, since only world government would pertain to its borders.
The needs of scientific research to assist planetary health would be uppermost on the agenda, and for some time to come there would have to be huge efforts on behalf of climate friendly structures useful for human habitation. (point of interest: I feel the one church that was erected in Antarctica should remain as an historical reminder of the good intentions of some. It makes no matter that is my own Orthodox church – I think the penguins would approve.)
Perhaps also there should be a counterpoint northern polar embassy of international standing so that events taking place when those regions have more moderate temperature could be scheduled there. It would need to have significantly less power than that of the southern region, due to having no actual landmass without prior national imperatives. Perhaps those otherwise useless aircraft carriers could serve as a huge floating foundation for this edifice…
Just think, all countries would then have a voice in the international parliament as long as they were willing to send representatives either place, and all citizens could vote according to interntionally recognized rules. Such states as could not or would not do this could be declared ‘reserves’, their land being open to settlers or partitioned explicitly for forests and prairies and the like. No munitions allowed, of course. Disturbances in any of the former states could be adjudicated by sending the perpetrators to one of the polar region nearby uninhabited islands, tropical ones being reserved for the lessor offendors.

I have mentioned this book before, but everyone should read British historian Richard Overy’s book, Russia’s War. It is excellent, and confirms Putin’s analysis. It also considers Stalin’s many mistakes and crimes, while also crediting the Soviet Union for defeating the Nazis.
Another book on Soviet efforts to create an anti-fascist alliance with the French and British is 1939: the alliance that never was.
Jacques Pauwels has written the best summary of American machinations around WW2, entitled, The Myth of the Good War.
Gabriel Kolko’s, The Politics of War also covers US strategy around WW2.

The Internal Revenue Service attempted to identify and track potential criminal suspects by purchasing access to a commercial database that records the locations of millions of American cellphones.

The Indian troops trespassed the Chinese side of the border and started the clash. Modi admitted as much …

The very India Today article that b. links to here says the clash began at a Chinese post that both sides had agreed was on the Indian side of the de facto border, before moving over to the Chinese side and escalating. And using Modi’s bluster (“Neither has anyone entered our territory …”) as an admission that India was the aggressor may be a nice debating point, but is disingenuous: it doesn’t get us any closer to the truth.
I make no assertion on the underlying facts; I don’t even know whether the India Today article is accurate. I just see that it doesn’t say what MoA is saying it says, and I think the Modi quote’s self-serving rhetoric is being unconvincingly construed as a confession of Indian responsibility for the fight.
What’s going on here? Does MoA want to provide analysis or bash India, perhaps seeing it as a proxy for the U.S.?
(I should say I have no particular views on who the “good guys” are in the China-India border issue.)

Scary or not, Putin is intelligent and educated in the European tradition. He speaks German fluently and reflects historically on his own and Russia’s context, and he rejects exceptionalism. We can argue with the details of his account, but then such argument is the stuff of academic discourse. That Putin takes an academic pathway to the past alone is refreshing. It suggests he grapples with questions of historical representation, even if it serves his political ends. It is simply inconceivable that it would occur to a US leader to approach the past this way. When the US can produce a politician who is able to publish a thoughtful historical essay reflecting on the relationship between a defining event and the present situation then my respect for the American intellectual tradition may just begin to return. But that ship sailed: US politicians who can write such essays tend to get assassinated. Leadership requires managing the complex interaction of truth and desire, what people need as opposed to what they want. Trump has organised it as a hall of mirrors where his class get what they want by offering the mass the illusion of satisfaction, vanquished imaginary enemies, straw-men, etc. Putin respects the intellect of his people and in that sense he is committed to the greatness of Russia authentically. MAGA on the other hand is just media chicanery and a juggler’s trick. USA—the dustbin of history awaits.

If you bothered to do a bit of research, you would know that when Modi says Chinese never at any time set foot in India, that that is what happened. I have seen his speech on Video, but non with English captions. There is no transcript of the statement at the site for prime minister of India. Instead there is a clarification put up by his minders.
The clarification is that the evil Chinese had cast their unclean eyes on sacred India so the brave Jawans went over and taught them a lesson.
US put out sat pics that showed the Chinese side of the line, but were very careful not to shoe the Indian side of the line.
Indian although only a couple of k’s at the mouth of the valley is on Indias side of the line, if you rad Indian media, they believe all of Galwan valley is theirs.
In the US sat photo from the day after the incident, China did not yet have a road to the line of control whereas India did.
India have also been working on major infrastructure, putting in a major bridge that is not just for patrolling up to the line which they have always been able to do, but to allow convoys of heavy vehicles access to the valley.
From the Indian reports, it sounds like the brawl took place in the rocks above the river where China does not yet have a road.

Nobody needs to argue that he has dementia. The evidence is there for those who have eyes. My take on the Putin essay is that he’s a Stalinist. He seems to think Stalin was an able military leader, but Trotsky was far more able. Trotsky was the leader on the ground who made the revolution happen. He was the founder of the Red Army and the strategist who won the civil war. He was such a powerful speaker he could do something Stalin never could — inspire the fighters going into battle. It could be argued that when Stalin cast out Trotsky that was what made Hitler’s attack on the USSR inevitable. Stalin purged the military officers Trotsky had chosen, sending the Red Army into disarray while Germany was building its wehrmacht. Hitler would have had far more respect for the Red Army if the revolution’s military leader was in command in 1939. It wasn’t until Marshall Zukov came along that the Red Army got its groove back.

US UK refused to extradite them to the Soviet Union and instead resettled them in UK and Canada.

What Modi said is correct. Chinese never at any point entered Indian territory. The brawl took place on China’s side of the line of actual control.
US and many Indians would like nothing better than India starting a war with China, but Modi, even though he is head of the Hindutva political party is not ready to start a war for the US. The Line of actual control has been there a long time, I think since the war in the sixties. Both sides will have agreed maps with exact coordinates of the line. China will have videos of the brawl and these would have been shown to India in high level meetings after the incident.

The Nazi invasion was always inevitable, regardless of who was in charge in Moscow: Hitler’s only two unshakable principles were against the Jews and for conquest in the East, and they were always there for anybody to see, starting with his book. I think Stalin knew that intellectually, but it seems he had a period of denial leading up to the invasion, and briefly even afterward.
Still, after that Stalin and the USSR did what needed to be done.

A curiosity of History is in the fact that, during the Civil War, the Red Army became famous for its mobility: the railways were always under Bolshevik control even at the direst moments (when they held just a tiny strip of land crossing through Moscow north-south), and used them to create artificial numerical superiority over the White Army, by deploying its divisions when needed at the right place. This became known as “Echelon Warfare” (railway warfare). But, at the beginning of WWII, the Red Army was the opposite of this: it was a huge, clunky and slow army, with enormous problems of mobility. The Wehrmacht, more mobile, was able to achieve artificial numerical superiority in the East Front of up to 10:1, and made the greatest envelopment maneuvers in History during this period.
It was only after they were able to stop the Nazi charge in Stalingrad that the Red Army was able to combine both mobility and size. The Soviet generals and other commanders only got better with time, in a maturity that culminated with Operation Bagration, which wiped out Army Group Center in some weeks.
It’s not clear cut that veterans from WWI made good commanders in WWII. Hitler used veterans because he didn’t have a choice (the Versailles Treaty forbade Germany from graduating new officers), and even then there’s no evidence the battle forged Generalfeldmarschalls from WWII were worse than their WWI counterparts. The Red Army certainly improved under their new graduates (Zhukov, Chuikov et al). Eisenhower notably fired a lot of veteran generals and promoted new ones after the famous Louisiana Maneuvers, in which he saw the old generation clearly wasn’t capable of keeping up with the new technologies and doctrines of modern warfare.
The end of WWII with the USSR being the most powerful land and air power, and the USA being the most powerful sea power. The lasting monument of WWII in terms of the art of war was the Soviet doctrine of Deep Operations.
The reason the USSR didn’t immediately respond to the Nazi invasion is that 1) the Ribbentrop-Molotov Pact was still valid, so Stalin couldn’t be sure if the June charge was just a little show for domestic consumption in Germany or a true war 2) the lines of communication are the first infrastructure to be destroyed in modern warfare, so the message didn’t come to Moscow in due time and updated and 3) the Red Army was still in flux, still building up. In this, total credit to Hitler: 1939 was the only possible time for Germany to start a world war with any chances of winning. Had he started it earlier, Germany wouldn’t be ready; had he started later, Germany would be crushed.

The blitzkrieg was a new form of warfare at the time that nobody was prepared for or knew how to counter. Stalin may have had inklings of this with his decapitating of the soviet military before the outbreak of war. I am beginning to think Stalin saw that new blood and new thought was required in the military leadership. Russian military had not performed well in past decades – battle of Jutland, WWI ect – and some of that thinking was likely still in the soviet military leadership.

I am so ignorant of history, I didn’t know that Che Guevara was a doctor, or at least trained as one. The article reminds us that revolution doesn’t mostly mean destruction – it mostly means creation:

While western medical doctrine does include alternative medicine as at least a palliative to symptoms, Cuban medicine incorporates everything known to human experience into its doctrine – including homeopathy, with which it routinely and successfully treats lesser-degree COVID-19.
Cuba’s Interferon Alpha 2B is famous by now of course as the antiviral of choice for the pandemic and to date, 72 countries have requested it for their crisis response efforts.

What I didn’t see was how, in general, everyone’s revolution wants to export its message to the world, and in Cuba’s case its revolution was its healthcare. Its doctors, as we know, travel with the fervor of compassion, to countless nations to help treat disease. From the article, a very sweet point is made from the time of the Ebola crisis (emphasis mine):

Since many governments did not know how to respond to the disease, Cuba trained volunteers from other nations at Havana’s Pedro Kourí Institute of Tropical Medicine. In total, Cuba taught 13,000 Africans, 66,000 Latin Americans, and 620 Caribbeans how to treat Ebola without themselves becoming infected. Sharing understanding on how to organize a health system is the highest level of knowledge transfer.

I agree that Cuba has set a wonderful example. I see China culture defending agains the US/empire in two related ways.
It has come to me recently that even more than the core public financial system that China has, their “form” of government represents another fundamental attack on the culture of the West. America was founded as a secular attempt at governance exemplified by the E Pluribus Unum (Out of Many, One) but bastardized in the 1950’s to fight Godless communism by changing American motto to In God We Trust….gag!
China is showing that purely secular government is effective in providing social support for all their citizens. The West that never completed the Enlightenment period transition is stuck in this Hollywood movie that has the global financial elite doing God’s work and all us underlings just must have more faith…….

From what I make of it, production had moved on to deployment at the time of Putin’s announcement.
Hard to tell if its sunk into the yanks what they’re up against if they try to take down Russia. They were putting out a lot of videos a year or two back on their electro cannons and lasers that took about 5 seconds to take down a small slow flying fixed wing drone in 5 seconds or more. Fantasy electro cannons and lasers now seem to be scrapped.
