Who will the DNC designate to take Biden's place after the "Convention"?

He *will* be flushed. Will he circle the drain or go quietly?

@librul
Yeah, Dirty Ol’ Sniffer is in a world of trouble. MSNBC’s Mika on Morning Joe surprisingly having no problem dropping the knife in and twisting on Tara Reade, so... yeah, the media arm of the DNC know the game’s up. They know it’s already game over vs Election Maestro Don.

The dems are incapable of finding a credible stand in for Biden. Some flunky might come to the fore but thet will most likely be the result of a 'committee' decision as the dems have cancelled democracy and decency.

they have to dispose of Biden. then dispose of "women-only" VP slot. neither will appeal in the end. then Cuomo-Bloomberg will toss their hat in as package deal

Here's the note Jesse Ventura posted to his FB on 27 Apr:

"I keep getting asked who I’m voting for, if I’m going to endorse anyone, if I’m going to run. Let me be clear: I have ZERO confidence in Democrats and Republicans. That doesn’t mean I won’t be voting. If you want to know my “down ballot,” it’s the Green Party. My political views are more aligned with the Green Party than any other party, so for me it makes sense. I’m voting Green all the way and if you’re looking to me for guidance, then do some research into who is running GREEN in your state and VOTE THEM IN. Yes, this is me endorsing the party. I'm voicing my opinion on which party has earned my vote (and has earned it in the past). I've also decided I'm going to test the waters with them. IF I were going to run for president, the GREEN party would be my first choice. I authorized a letter of interest that was sent on my behalf to the Greens - to be clear, I haven't filed to run - but right now I'm testing the waters, seeing if there is interest and support for me for the Green Party nomination. So we'll see where this goes. I'm an independent. I'm not a Democrat or a Republican because I know they're not the solution. I refuse to vote for “the lesser of two evils” because in the end, that’s still choosing evil. You want change? VOTE your conscience. That’s the only way to get the pencil pushers, the chicken hawks, the draft dodgers with so called “bone spurs” out of Washington in 2020."

He posted "a "populist" thread to his Twitter. Here's the first part:

"If #COVID19 doesn’t wake us up to how workers are being treated, nothing will. Low-wage workers bring us food & essential items but they're told they aren’t important enough to receive better working conditions, better wages, better healthcare."

And then there's his show on RT. His latest was May 2: "‘Gov’t can’t put you on house arrest except under martial law’" is its title.

It doesn't matter who the nominee is, and that's true for both parties. As I believe we all know, Wall Street, the military-industrial complex and, to some extent, the bureaucracy, are what drives the agenda. The goons heading up the parade are simply an odd form of bread and circus.

I like Jesse Ventura - he tells it straight - but it's way too late for him to become the Green Party candidate.

The problem with the Greens is that they can't seem to get out of their own way, being disorganized and infected by dysfunctional leadership. Which I find is true of a lot of other "progressive" groups in my neck of the woods (Oregon).

And it's been quite chilling to watch self-styled "feminists" such as Milano, Warren, Abrams, Pelosi, et. al, punch down ("I believe Joe Biden") against Tara Reade, and all other rape victims of powerful men, like demented Joe Biden. They are all hypocrites and beyond redemption.

Seeing everyone get worked up over Biden is funny. Do you think you'll get a better candidate? Bernie dropped out for a reason. He was never a real candidate. There will not be any real candidate for change.

Killary's pretended "health problems" in 2016 seem like a fore-shadowing of Biden's. May be she really is the ultimately "the one" in 2020.

All we can do is watch and LOL.

The masses seem to have voted already, no matter whether their ugly "human" representative turns out to be Hillary or remains Trump.

I do not recall distinctly when it began, but it was months ago. The general tension was horrible. To a season of political and social upheaval was added a strange and brooding apprehension of hideous physical danger; a danger widespread and all-embracing, such a danger as may be imagined only in the most terrible phantasms of the night. I recall that the people went about with pale and worried faces, and whispered warnings and prophecies which no one dared consciously repeat or acknowledge to himself that he had heard. A sense of monstrous guilt was upon the land, and out of the abysses between the stars swept chill currents that made men shiver in dark and lonely places. There was a daemoniac alteration in the sequence of the seasons—the autumn heat lingered fearsomely, and everyone felt that the world and perhaps the universe had passed from the control of known gods or forces to that of gods or forces which were unknown.

Posted by: Lozion | May 5 2020 21:25 utc | 16

Really pointless to discuss this. Trump have already won the election. The Democrats successfully neutralized the "Progressive" movement. Majority of the Progressives would likely not vote after the Sanders debacle.

Posted by: Ian2 | May 5 2020 22:08 utc | 17

If the Democrats had any desire to win this election, they need to talk Mitt Romney to run against Trump. He's actually more Democrat that the Democrats and he can draw Republican voters that don't like Trump.

The problem with the Greens is that they can't seem to get out of their own way, being disorganized and infected by dysfunctional leadership. Which I find is true of a lot of other "progressive" groups in my neck of the woods (Oregon).

I have been observing Greens for may years across the globe and some clearly managed to develop agile decision making and advocacy systems while others became bound and chained to elephantine processes that bogged then into obscurity. This may indicate the foibles of human nature in politics but I have seen first hand in some Green organisation the results of directed entrism and disabling mendacity by coordinated efforts.

There is often a tendency to bind flexibility by installing rigorous and labyrinthine selection and rule systems that result in internalised distractions and arm wrestling. They are easy targets for sabotage by the state either by introducing policy discussions that are tangential to political development or splittist. That is a difficult journey for those with political integrity to have to negotiate. In the USA context the Presidential candidate selection cycle leaves the anointing of the spokesperson or lead candidate very little time to broadcast their message and the voice of the party.

I trust someone in the USA with the charisma and capacity to 'take on' the immense national debate can emerge. So go Jesse Ventura GO FOR IT.

Cthulhu's campaign slogan from previous elections: "Why Settle for the Lesser Evil?"

(Typing this comment I just discovered that the name Cthulhu is so well-known by now it doesn't trigger any spell-check notification on my system. His recognition factor and approval rating must be surging.)

(Regarding those like the Dembots and shills who preach that one should vote for the alleged "lesser evil", it's amazing how such persons are openly admitting they themselves are evil and support evil, only somewhat "less" of it. They're not only evil, they're gutless about it.)

The good thing about the residential tower in Sharjah city was that alarm and evacuation route worked properly. The building was covered with the same "cladding" (I would need to check for American word) as Grenfell Tower in London, but probably the staircases worked as they should: a concrete bunker giving protection from the flames and unobstructed way out. But aluminum has a relatively low ignition point, so it begs the question why it is used instead of ceramic tiles or something that just does not ignite. So the fire spread from lower floors up, so the physics suggest that "flying a drone into the top floor" is a bad way to attack the building. A car bomb on the street level? Anyway, just do not do it.

Another good idea is to avoid British style self-exploding refrigerators.

"Who will the DNC designate to take Biden's place after the "Convention"? He *will* be flushed. Will he circle the drain or go quietly?"

The problem is that Sanders still controls his own delegates. And when Sanders suspended his campaign, he said "the candidate who won the most primary votes should be the nominee". At the time, I thought he was talking as much about himself as Biden, and I still do.

And if Sleepy Joe is forced out, what will Bernie do? Maybe something, probably nothing. But what about his millions of voters? A majority will vote for whoever the party anoints. But some will vote for Orange Man. Some will go third party. Some will stay home. The question is: how many?

The word "invest" should never cross paths with "cryptocurrency" or "bitcoin".
The entire sector has been infested with charlatans from the start.
The largest cryptocurrency exchange in Canada was literally founded by ex-pyramid scheme gold pushers.
Thefts of cryptocurrency are billions per year - a rounding error for the rest of the monetary system, but a visible percentage of the entire cryptocurrency market cap.

From a value investment perspective: how valuable is a currency which is primarily used for cyber crime? Note investment is not "usage".

And even on the investment side: the number of pump and dumpers is literally astounding. The number of telegram channels devoted to this was literally in the thousands: the means by which the pump and dumpers would coordinate their actions. Some turned out to be scams on scams: they'd bring in people to be dumped on.

Crypocurrencies are to investment what Mogadishu is to government.

The job of US Prez is not a coveted gig!

Now a figurehead position, where ‘advisors’ create policy, at the behest of lobbyists for Big Corps, MIC, others - who control the whole show, while at cross purposes amongst themselves.

A mouthpiece role, propped up, shepherded along, controlled, manipulated, despised, threatened with impeachment or censure or whatever.

Trump at least has the personal umph to tweet. How long before Twitter bans him? For fake news? For not abiding by standards? For…past behavior like pussy grabbing?

How does it come about that the Prez. of the USA, supposedly the most powerful person in the World, has to go on some start-up internet thingie made for ravers, fashionistas, niche influencers, sellers of all kind of blah opinions and meme stuff …? Which limits length of messages to a very small no. of characters?

He regularly objects to what other State orgs. / authorities / bodies have stated or decreed, Twitter gets the briefs in first place?

The governance of the USA is not being run by Pres.- Congress - Senate. Other forces are at work and they control the simulacrum of ‘democracy.’

The no. 1 opponent to Trump, J. Biden, probably doesn’t even understand what he is letting himself in for (shame on his family for letting that happen), he is severely mentally-challenged and out of the game. Loopy-loop, senile, pushed in front of the Big Hall, aka today, to babble incoherently on TV. Amazing that ppl even listen.

Yes, possibly it is all a sneaky strategy to replace Biden with Killary, or someone else, but that changes nothing in the overall landscape, where the ‘instituted’ bodies and mechanisms that ‘govern’ have been gutted of all legitimacy.

Having read the works of Dmitry Orlov, I honestly see no point in voting when the only choices with a chance of winning are the Capitalist Party and the Other Capitalist Party. Those candidates who would actually be competent leaders are all from third parties, who have zero chance of winning the Presidency. With that, I think Johnny Depp’s prediction that Trump could be the last president could come true. I’d say the United States could go the way of the Soviet Union before it, but the United States is more like Yugoslavia before its own breakup, a mixture of hostile cultural groups forcibly held together tenuously by a troupe of naïve ideologues. (The European Union is more like the Soviet Union, where hostile cultural groups generally remain separate in their own nations.) Add to the fact that the troupe of naïve ideologues rely on a fragile system based on a dying reserve currency to keep their polity together, and I think you can see where this is going. That’s why I voted with my passport and left the United States.

Let's face it filling in time during a lockdown can be a chore. I still do my rounds but since Aotearoa dropped from Lvl 4 to level 3 most things are available again, either delivered or by pre-arranged pickup so apart from the really vulnerable or the few destitute which aren't many at the moment. The govt has been handing out cash everywhere. Makes me angry I didn't join in as I coulda bought a new car with the proceeds if I had. Natch big corpoations have been caught claiming huge wage 'subsidies' for staff that had been fired and pocketing the dough - nice eh. Apparently they thought they were safe -until the government noticed the discrepancy between corporate claims and the numbers of workers registering as unemployed, put up a website listing all the corporations who had claimed under the program along with the names of those 'staff' they had claimed for, then invited kiwi workers to check the site - make sure they had been given the dosh. Oops! "The lockdown has caused some administration issues" was the best the greedies came up with.

Anyway time on hands, still not allowed to mingle, so I've been grabbing documentaries that seem they may be interesting.
I grabbed an amerikan PBS doco "The Poison Squad" about a bloke called Harvey Wiley who after 30 years of hard graft proving that the 'preservatives' made by the likes of Monsanto (Monsanto poisoning Amerikans for 150 years! what a motto.) put in amerikan foods were highly toxic and must be banned finally convinced T Roosevelt the then prez to knockback a bribe and push it through cause he remembered the awful garbage amerikan big business had sold the War Dept to feed the troops when he Roosevelt had led the invasion of Cuba.

The thing is, Wiley had proven that substances such as borax, formaldehyde, copper sulphate etc were detrimental to the health of humans when ingested in quantity & regularly, with his "Poison Squad" back at the turn of the century. The poison squad was set up by Wiley as one more effort to convince the politicians of the danger faced by the public. Wiley had been shouting loudly about this since the 1880's. He publicised - he was the federal government 'Official Chemist' through the media and lobbied both houses of the federal legislature for decades but no one was interested in protecting the citizenry - why not?

Cause even back then the corporations had the 'fix' in. Senators and Congressmen were paid by the food manufacturers to make sure their profitability was not impeded in any way.
That dodgy attitude combined with contempt for Joe/Jo Citizen was prevalent among federal pols 120 years ago, and no one has been held to account since apart from an occasional partisan payback (what was it - Arabgate or somesuch under Reagan?) so imagine how much worse it is now.

All amerikans should watch that doco because it encapsulates a sad reality, that voting in amerika is a completely pointless act which only serves to enable and encourage crooks.

Abscam. That was the name of the FBI investigation of crooked dem pols - the only rethug indicted got off at trial. AFAIK he was the only rethug who the feds tried it on with.

Several other pols sussed the attempted fit up as they may be greedy, but not all pols are as dumb as a rock, as silly as a wheel. Taxpayers spend a fortune hiring 'aides' for these arseholes so the pols generally have a bagman tasked with collecting the cash. Consequently many pols refused to accept a brown paper bag from a stranger. Mostly they got off apart from one videotaped arguing with his 'aide' about who should trouser the wedge.

This has been true since the Kennedy assassination, if not before. POTUS's time is spent mostly giving speeches, raising money, setting tempo, distracting, taking flak, etc. As Bush the Younger, Shrub, once candidly admitted, "...Catapulting the propaganda." Still, there is no shortage of egotists in the conga line for the position.

So, yes, but.... there is STILL this:

We know who the major interest groups are: MIC, Big Ag, Pharma, FIRE, Tech, etc. And we know that they, and the billionaire oligarchs fund the think tanks which act as cut-outs crafting policy for them. We also know that there still remains some sort of "disinterested" longer-term planning function for the empire -- Kissinger, Bzrezinski types etc. Even John Q. Public is represented, if only by opinion polling firms which measure what will fly.

But the $64,000 question still remains: Who mediates between these interests, and how is it really done? Within that black box lies the power of the real President.

Any thoughts on this conundrum?

The $64,000 question indeed. As comic Bill Burr once quipped, "Jump in the river and act accordingly, or get that convertible ride in Dallas."

IMO the U.S. is doomed. The concentration of corporate power and media domination combined with its cowboy culture and nonsensical cult of individualism make any broad reform virtually impossible. The coming strikes and pitchforks will hasten that decline and no amount of tearful dutiful singing of the star-spangled banner with their weary hands on their hearts will change that fate.

CARES act unemployment benefit increase is $260 billion to supplement unemployment insurance with these programs: Pandemic Unemployment Compensation, Pandemic Emergency Unemployment Compensation, and Pandemic Unemployment Assistance

PUC adds 13 weeks to whatever existing maximum weeks of unemployment assistance a state offers

PEUC adds $600 to each weekly unemployment check

PUA adds self-employed and gig workers to unemployment eligibility

To put these in perspective:

All but 8 states have 26 weeks maximum unemployment benefit duration. PUC's adding 13 weeks is a 50% increase in duration.

The PEUC payment amount is higher than the maximum possible unemployment payment for all but 8 states (notably, California is $450, less than Texas).

And of course, normally self employed and gig workers don't get any benefits whatsoever.

Now consider this in context of the 30 million plus Americans suddenly unemployed due to lockdowns.

If they were making minimum wage - 40 hours * $7.25 = $290 per week. The PEUC payment alone is double this. So even someone working 2 federal minimum wage jobs would be "even". Someone working a $15/hr job would be even. To be clear, this still isn't a great living but the point is simply to convey what the CARES act unemployment provisions mean.

Now consider the provenance of the stimulus bill, of which the CARES unemployment supplement was a portion.

Will the credit go to Biden? Hell no. Invisible man.

The Democrats? Given that nothing even slightly similar was passed during Obama's terms, this seems unlikely.

So I'm revising my "Trump might win in 2020", which was a revision down from "Trump slam dunk 2020" due to coronavirus, back to "Trump slam dunk 2020".

I'll go even further: I won't be surprised to see Trump surges even in core blue state strongholds. The self employed, business owners and working class all have been badly hurt by the shutdowns.

The stimulus packages are the only positive benefit any of these groups have received in contrast to the lockdown-induced economic beat down instigated by the state governments - both Republican and Democrat.

Trump won't be shy about taking the credit, and it is even somewhat due.

And along the lines of the above:
I created this side-by-side visual amalgamation of "nCOV reopening criteria eligibility for states" vs. the 2016 Republican vs. Democrat breakdown by state.

I agree. That is the $64,000 question.

My 6 pennyworth says that the bosses of Think Tanks, NGO's & lobby groups are the go-betweens. So the bosses of those pressure groups would, logically, have direct contact and interaction with ranking, if not elected, representatives the millionaire & billionaire shareholders of corporations which finance the corruption and consequent hijacking of US internal and foreign policies.

I hope that's correct because there's a glaring weakness which should make the movers and shakers easily identifiable and open to formal prosecution for treason and/or corruption.
They've made a lot of mistakes recently, and POTUS has significant powers which cannot be easily removed or over-ruled...

On a quick scroll through I didn't see a mention here of the Green Party, so apologies if there has been one. I have to thank wendyedavis of cafe-babylon.net for her latest blog post, and without more ado here is an introduction to candidate Howie Hawkins and his running mate - it is an hour long but well worth the time it takes to get to know these charismatic individuals. They are both working class, experienced, well spoken. So please take an hour to enjoy this. In my view they are head and shoulders above any other candidates in the coming election!

I will further add that interesting to me in the matters they were discussing was their campaign to be placed on the ballot by addressing the Supreme Courts of each of the states that have so far denied them access. They have used the argument that with the condition of the US in respect to the covid virus, it is impossible to be able to run a normal petition campaign - and so far in several states the court has agreed with them and required that restriction to be waived. That is very promising news.

I'll just repeat, it is an enjoyable video. Low key but on point and even humorous in places. And personally I am shutting out the sleaze and drang of R and D. Not gonna listen guys; tuning out!

I did misspeak on the first of these three comments - there were, I think, two posts mentioning the Greens in derogatory fashion. I apologize for saying there weren't. At any rate there were no links such as the one I have provided. It seems that's it, the old There Is No Alternative. Well,to folk who are falling into that way of thinking, I'll just say you are making the Big Boys very happy.

This is,no doubt, a video full of hope and dreams. But it will warm your heart, I promise; and that's a good way to face what's ahead of us.
