Your report is not surprising. A matchstick will reign over the Cocytus before the Japanese elite even think about quarantining Tokyo.

Guys, cancel everything. The term "bridge loan" didn't catch over the masses - it's a little too complicated and wordy. The term "bailout" is back:

Washington Weighs Big Bailouts to Help U.S. Economy Survive Coronavirus

The sub states that would be "the biggest bailout in modern history". Until the next one, of course.

karlof1 | Mar 19 2020 0:29 utc | 98 Yes. We here at home speak of these foreshadowing things as "echos from the future", as if they were reflected back from the future due to a less than ideal impedance match, a reflected wave. Of course it's a nonsense idea, but it's the language we use. As to the senile fella and why...I think he's simply a stooge and the thin edge of their wedge. I don't know, but would speculate he's a win-win for a camp of unspeakable that Biden, if he wins, will be totally out of it so "they", "them what brung 'im" get to run the racket" ( look whz D/VP) The red witch-queen will preside, bet on it... Or, on the other hand, he might lose to the Clown, who is similarly out of it, totally unprepared and ignorant of the affairs and their origins, even the geography, and liable to have mental decline...and with the new laws any stooge prez, or not stooge prez, might suddenly die, eh?. And Bothe Biden and the Clown are easily manipulated, presumably by blackmail over money or whatever (especially creepyjoe) not all would be lost.

That assumes the epidemic was not a malicious release in a design that includes the econocrash trigger just as we're afraid to protest, this assumes, bluntly, a coincidence theory.

That's not to imply that the epidemic is not deadly serious. In fact it would be essential to such a design... (here I recall "Why didn't you tell the world! from Strangelove.)

I don't buy coincidence theory. I think we're being played for chumps.

You ever read "The Unpleasant Profession of Johnathan Hoag"?

That's an echo from the future...

Cool, gotta split.

I agree with you that Japan Times is garbage. The thing is, in the linked article in question, that garbage mentions the source, which is nothing more nothing less than the official source, health ministry's Yasuyuki Sahara.

> Hospitals and doctors are certainly not reluctant to test for the disease, they certainly would like to know if that severe case of pneumonia is or not the coronavirus, both for themselves and other patients under their care AND because of liability (legal and insurance).

nope ... test has been to the discretion of the doctors and hokenjo (保健所)

there was really NO direct order to test everyone from the start

In non Corona related developments, Iran is getting hammered by th US in Iraq.

First, the new PM designate is a US citizen, former DoD employee, and death squad organizer under the Bremer admin during the Iraqi insurgency, Adnan al-Zarfi. He currently has the support of Sunnis, Kurds and some Shia including Sadr:

A background on the US death squads for those who might not remember:

Second, the 4 PMUs loyal to Sistani are preparing to integrate themselves into the Iraqi national army, which should lead to all other PMUs dissolving or handing in their weapons, now absent a clerical mandate:

That's the US plan at least. Iran's reaction remains to be seen, but it looks like these are the first repercussions of the blow dealt to the axis of resistance by murdering Soleimani and Muhandis. If Magnier's article is accurate, Ghaani seems to have fumbled by relying on Sadr, which Soleimani had always rightfully avoided.

Iraq is a mess. Sistani and Sadr blow with the wind. Iraq Hezbollah will be the ones to watch. I believe they are well led, the leader, what of have seen of him, seems similar type person to Nasrallah. The organisation may well grow as did Hezbollah in Lebanon but it will be some time yet.

Did I say there was a direct order to test (test test test) ? No. What I said matches what the ministerial guidelines indicate. And testing they do.

And BTW, until now there really has been no need to lockdown any area in Japan, except Hokkaido.

Where did you find this link please?

This is our chance to move towards regaining control of our govt. We can seriously damage the credibility of TPTB by using this link and others like dr Wolfgang Wodarg.

I hope everyone will help to post these far & wide.

"On 14 March 2020, 7 cases confirmed in the country. 5 of the new confirmed cases have had direct contact with the first two cases. 1 is an England national currently working on a gold mine in the country and who has went to vacation in Liverpool and came back on 10 March, transiting through Vancouver and Paris.[3]"

"The United Arab Emirates is extending its travel ban to deny entry to residency visa holders, according to state news agency WAM."
Apparently foreign residents in UAE are supposed to have another appartment somewhere!

Can someone post a table where the number of tests realized by each country is displayed?

Posted by: Mina | Mar 19 2020 10:40 utc | 115

Peter Au1

- choose your sources.

If you want reassurance & are comfortable that you are not in the demographic, choose the anonymous Swiss doctor, complete with citation in Italian.

If you are fearful you run with the anonymous 'hospital doc' @ 35 complete with working 25 years working in American hospitals.

Choose to believe whatever makes you feel more comfortable.

As far as I am concerned there is no reliable data to make any definitive conclusions.

Posted by: ted01 | Mar 19 2020 10:48 utc | 116

What the anonymous Swiss is saying does not differ from what is available here, or did I miss something?

Posted by: Mina | Mar 19 2020 10:58 utc | 117

I tend to look at what the Chinese and Italians and South Korean's are doing and saying.

They are named people that actually work with the disease rather than unnamed armchair experts or even named armchair experts that do not have experience where the epidemics have broken out.
Average age of those requiring hospital care 48.9 years. With hospital care deaths are limited to the elderly or those with other conditions.
During an epidemic, hospitals are swamped by those requiring hospital care. Armchair experts say the pandemic is scare mongering and lock downs ect not required because death toll is low. What will the death toll be with no medical care.

Posted by: Peter AU1 | Mar 19 2020 11:12 utc | 118

One takeaway from 'hospital doc' is that is seems your average 50-60 year old American is about as healthy as the average 80 year old Italian.

All the benefits of the Southern European diet.

Obesity rate in the US running at 42.4% (2017-18) so the Americans probably need to be more fearful than your average Thai or Malaysian.

Australia has now 6 dead - ages 90, 95, 82,77,78 & 86.
100% of deaths are people over 76 years old. Interpret this however you want.

Is it because all the younger people are taking longer to die? Yes - somebody has suggested this.

Posted by: ted01 | Mar 19 2020 11:14 utc | 119

The Iranian official. breaks out in a sweat while on television, two or three days later he is dead. Wasn't that old. Looked healthy. Over 40 medical workers died in China because there was not enogh protective gear at the start. But what would the chinks know.
Far better to go with the armchair experts.

Posted by: Peter AU1 | Mar 19 2020 11:15 utc | 120

Australia have been closely following what China is doing and has learned. Coronovirus, so long as it is found before secondary problems arise is easily cured. Only problems will be if the patient is on other medications that will react with the antiviral drugs.
Australia has already successfully tested antiviral drugs (one that I know of).

Some 'experts' - real or imagined - are saying extreme pollution as a mitigating factor with regard to Wuhan/Hubei & the Po Valley of northern Italy.

Lots of pre-existing conditions especially in Hubei province, which I think is recognized as the most polluted area in China, so possibly the world.
Also it seems that the Po Valley is the most polluted area in Europe.

As for myself & family - eat healthy, a bit of vitamin c, zinc etc, sit in the sun, practice social distancing & prudent contact with inanimate objects.
Trot along to work, do my 4 x 12 hour shifts & enjoy my 4 days off.

Wally was thinking as he resumed consciousness early to-day about the Roman Republic and Michael Parenti's "Assassination of Julius Caesar", of which he wonders especially if Karlof1 or any others at b's symposium have read and considered... Yeah, hellofatime to think about our lost opportunities in History. Wally sees similarities between Parenti's Caesar and JFK...and of course the loss of the Republics in quo.

@ TUC Radio (generally unknown and honest, (Wally is personally 1 degree from the proprietor through family) has, inter alia some very interesting audio lectures. tucradio[dot]org

TUC has lectures by Parenti. Wally has physically attended collegiate lecture by the itinerant unaffiliated and therefore free-to-speak-his- mind Doctor Professor Parenti. Cool guy. But angry.

Wally has the general opinion, since his senior project at high-school was titles "A Mathematical Model for Biological Reproduction in an Nth Closed System", ...opinion that we all seem to be a a situation somewhat similar to that which he posited then.

The curve has a knee, Wally thinks we're on the knee. The curve describes a one-shot event in an unstable oscillator and "N" = (almost) 0 follows the peak. Of course what happens in a simple example is not a sure thing in the RW (real world).

No worries!

The intrepid pair find themselves in box canyon surrounded by thousands of very pissed-off Red Indians bent on attacking. It's hopeless, they're doomed.

Lone Ranger: "Tonto! We're surrounded by pissed off Red Indians!

Tonto: "What do you mean "we", Kimosabe?"

I imagine that in this affair the forces are not "ours", but "theirs". At least so long as the forces get paid, propagandized, and "medicated to forestall combat fatigue" with amphetamines and so forth.

I recall an Einsatzgruppen fella, a vet of the campaign in the East, when the nazis were on a roll. At interview question about the slaughter he said "Some fellows were quite keen on it."

According to Zerohedge, Tulsi Gabbard just dropped out and endorsed BIDEN. I see that vato has posted the same thing. Next thing you know Tulsi'll be kissing Killery's ass.

So the last seemingly honest politician has sold out. I wonder what the price was? Who was the VP back when - one of Nixon's maybe - who sold out for $5000. Of course we've had a bit of inflation since then. I think he was from Delaware in fact.

Re electricity: What applies to electricity applies to anything powerful, it is not safe unless used safely. Power requires responsibility to be used safely. People kill themselves all the time using powerful things, sometimes by accident, sometimes by not paying attention.

"Here, hold my beer."

In other words, the issue is not binary, yes or no.

I always try to be careful with electric things, but not because they are safe, because they are useful and I think I can handle them safely. As far as ambient electric fields, an iffy subject, perhaps we have worse dangers to worry about in the city, so I avoid staying around power lines, but not much beyond that, they attenuate very fast with distance. The wires in houses I don't worry about much, except not to grab them.

By none of this do I mean to imply they are good for you.

Posted by: Walter | Mar 19 2020 16:23 utc | 148

Walter @148: The offer is do or die.

IMO such an "offer" is rarely, if ever, necessary in US politics.

TPTB never want another JFK situation.

Candidates like Tulsi don't need to be threatened. They are chosen because they will play along. If they won't play along, they are not allowed to get far.

The same applies to Trump. Some say "he was show the JFK tapes" to keep up the pretense that he's a "populist outsider". Nah. No need. Trump is more than willing to be the front-man and 'face' of the Deep State. He's neither a 'populist' or an 'outsider' - just an egotistical social-climber with some media skills who will be well-rewarded for his service.

Here's the kind of thing I sometimes like to watch and it is extremely highly recommended to watch for anyone wanting to have a basic understanding of where physics is today:
"Mysteries of Modern Physics by Sean Carroll", Darwin College lecture 20200129 on YouTube. Fresh off the press really since it's only nearly two months old.

It is superb, in little over one hour it gives you the collective sum total of more than two thousand years of hard work by tens or hundreds of thousands of brilliant minds arguing against each other, theorizing, and most crucially testing over and over again against all flaws they can think of. Actual science.

For free except the cost of one hour of your life.

In fact one can just watch the first half if that's all one wants but of course the later juicy bits build on that first half hour.

One isn't at the starting line by watching that video but at least one is hovering outside in close proximity to the queue to get access to the spectators tribune and with some sense of avoiding all the bullshit hustlers trying to sell you fake tickets.

Those who aren't even "that far" will be ignored because they're somewhere else entirely, most likely in a world of their own with no resemblance to reality.

This small comment is what I ended up with after thinking about and drastically rewriting a much longer comment that answered Veritas X but in general terms and also by removing a lot of personal information I'm not at ease in sharing.

Walter @155: So let us agree that "offer" does not require a signature ...

"Offer" vastly understates the manipulation and control that is involved.

"Shown the JFK video" - implying a coercive "offer" - is little more than a convenient way to excuse those that betray us.

There is no such "offer" except in special cases. There is the selection and furthering of those that willingly participate in fooling the public. Generally because such people are narcissistic, craven asshats or because they are ideologues (Zionist, neoliberal, neocon, etc.).

Our money-based political system selects for people what will serve the establishment, just as a business will hire someone with sales skills or a film company will audition for actors. In a similar vein, when a known killer is offered money to commit murder, that "offer" is not an inducement to change their moral views and personal principles, it's merely a negotiation over price.

Posted by: Jackrabbit | Mar 19 2020 18:50 utc | 157

Jackrabbit | Mar 19 2020 18:50 utc | 157 Ok, what you wrote Is the Offer, or it may be explicit. It does not matter where on that spectrum the "Offer" resides. Of course it's intrinsic much of the time. And systemic. John Boy did not listen. Dallas - and "bang". Or read the faint writing on the wall.

I am trying to agree because we do, in reality, agree.

At one end it's explicit. On the other it is understood and simply part of the Way Things Are. No necessity to get in writing... It's organized crime, aka "capitalism".

Endorsing Biden, the guy who fought long and hard to push the lies that led the U$ to invade Iraq, makes her anti-war stance,

re: Tom_LX | Mar 19 2020 17:18 utc | 151

Well well, as if in support of this bit of conspiratorial paranoia posted by Tom_LX, here's an article just published on a mainstream website, just to get us used to the idea:

We’re not going back to normal:

Ultimately, however, I predict that we’ll restore the ability to socialize safely by developing more sophisticated ways to identify who is a disease risk and who isn’t, and discriminating—legally—against those who are.

We can see harbingers of this in the measures some countries are taking today. Israel is going to use the cell-phone location data with which its intelligence services track terrorists to trace people who’ve been in touch with known carriers of the virus. Singapore does exhaustive contact tracing and publishes detailed data on each known case, all but identifying people by name.

We don’t know exactly what this new future looks like, of course. But one can imagine a world in which, to get on a flight, perhaps you’ll have to be signed up to a service that tracks your movements via your phone. The airline wouldn’t be able to see where you’d gone, but it would get an alert if you’d been close to known infected people or disease hot spots. There’d be similar requirements at the entrance to large venues, government buildings, or public transport hubs. There would be temperature scanners everywhere, and your workplace might demand you wear a monitor that tracks your temperature or other vital signs. Where nightclubs ask for proof of age, in future they might ask for proof of immunity—an identity card or some kind of digital verification via your phone, showing you’ve already recovered from or been vaccinated against the latest virus strains.

We’ll adapt to and accept such measures, much as we’ve adapted to increasingly stringent airport security screenings in the wake of terrorist attacks. The intrusive surveillance will be considered a small price to pay for the basic freedom to be with other people.

Too bad you're going stir-crazy! Be happy to buy us a tasty Spanish Coffee in honor of 1918. I'm sure you can find something here to relieve your tedium. Signing up's free and there's millions of books, articles and videos. I'm sure you'll find something to keep your mind busy.

As to your unasked question, yes, I have a degree of disappointment; but then I did make the correct choice to back away from working for her campaign. I was hoping to explore this article by Joaquin Flores but the CV-19 discussion is still raging over most everything else.

Not a democrat, but am very curious if there is any ideas on who he will select as a running mate. Old Joe's mind seems to be failing. The VP will be likely straight from the deep state approved list. I kinda keep thinking Buttigieg. On the other hand most dems haven't gotten over Obama. Michele perhaps? My fear is you'll dems will pick someone that will make me vote for Trump and the GOP again. Why couldn't you let go of your Russian obsession and vote for Gabbard? At least next time I get called deplorable, I can yell back "warmonger". Sad isn't it.

I’m truly surprised she endorsed Joe over Bernie. It’s a long shot, but here’s a woman for Biden to pick as his running mate. I think he’d be a genius to do so.

Imagine Truman getting the offer, when FDR was dying...and going home to Bess (as Harry tells us) to say it's a terribly heavy burden, but I shall be President, FDR is dying." (Wally has muddled the passage, but it's in the auto-bio)

Wlly imagines that might be the offer they made, since Buyder is drooling senile...of course Truman was their punk... pity.

A bargan with devils. Bismarck wrote about it. People ought to read old Bizzie. Under-rated man these days.

Your quote and referenced post came from Twisted Genius, Lang's left-leaning bud formerly in the FBI. Lang didn't write that and I am interested in his reaction.

It was a good call though, jr, Tulsi hitching her wagon to Biden. Let's see if the VP now goes to her.

Although truly disappointing, my guess is she is playing the long game with future executive aspirations. I think she made a deal with the devil. And who knows if she can go toe-to-toe with him. It was either this or obscurity through shunning.

So the "exceptional nation" is landing military on Yemen, and Yemeni island of Socotra. Begins to look like an even hotter war is beginning...No doubt, the arrow is aimed at the heart of Iran. I hope the Charlie Foxtrot nation falls in epic style.

Good to see they have landed on Socotra as they might kill all the goats and then the Dragon Blood trees might recover. Death to goats on Socotra.

I reckon they will never leave socotra if they establish there. Strategic place to set up spycam ++ for the Suez shipping lane. Never trust FUKUSI.

The usual suspects are portraying this as a common practice encouraged by 'regime supporters' and the people who follow Hannity and FOX news are recalling this to blame the victim that we should keep sanctions on. This has a psyops feel to it, 'they are backwards people, it is okay to mistreat untermenschen'.

I'm not saying it is all faked but I bet the info war people are misrepresenting it. Does anyone know the real deal on this?

The bottom line for anyone in the US is to not vote democrat or republican in any election. Vote, but vote for anyone but.

It is the only way to send a message now that we are on lock down and cannot even go out to demonstate in the streets (not that that has managed to change anything in the recent past)

The thing is, the US political space, its structure, organisation, leaves no room
for candidates like Tulsi or even Bernie. It is tightly controlled and very much
a hyped - media - spectacle jamboree, with the decisions being taken,
the deals being made, in the proverbial smoke-filled rooms. Or corridors.

On covid 19 tests

I had a peek at false positive as the 'Our World in Data' site was silent on that point. Loud and clear on false negatives but zilch on false positive.

This was one site that seemed dispassionate and below is an extract.

The key patients were the ones identified as carrying COVID-19 by the chest CT, but not diagnosed through initial gene sequencing. Of these patients, 81% were eventually classified as probable or highly likely cases. This suggests an overall false positive rate for chest CT of around 6%.

However, this low false positive rate may be influenced by the setting of the experiment. At the epicenter of the viral outbreak, the doctors who select patients for testing were quite experienced in diagnosis, and as a result, the cohort of patients in this study were quite likely to ultimately test positive. In a setting where the outbreak was not so far developed, the false positive rate may be higher.

This mode of testing then may not be appropriate for all settings, but in environments where the virus is relatively common, the high sensitivity of chest CT analysis to COVID-19 means that it should be seriously considered as a key part of the diagnostic array.

Lets NOT LOCK UP the carriers on the basis of a PCR test alone. A substantive reliable test utilising a more accurate measure would be essential.

To "Tom_LX": sorry but I watched most of it and I'm not interested, stinks of bullshit and pure fraud like thousands of others like them. It's nowhere close enough to claim you have repeated your own experiment, that's outright ridiculous, many other people need to do it independently based on published methodology and results and then publish their own results and it all needs genuine peer review.

These guys aren't ever going to get that far and are not even trying by the looks of it. If they did they might be at the starting line but could still easily be entirely wrong (because being wrong is usual in genuine science).

Instead sending something to some lab only looks like an attempt at straight up fraud when presented as independent confirmation. It simply isn't confirmation of anything at all since they only tested something which could very easily deliberately have been faked (vacuum deposition, it's easy and cheap).

There's actually no science presented in their video and except for name-dropping some equipment what little might sound like science is essentially gibberish with less detail and understanding than simplified "popular science". Not NIAC material and I bet you they know it (if they know about NIAC, maybe I'm setting the bar too high) :D

If they really are genuine I would suspect all they've done is vacuum deposition from impurities (metals!), but no I don't think that's the case, I think they're plain fraudsters.

This is why I generally try to avoid wasting time on this kind of, well, bullshit. Lots of it on YouTube and everywhere one looks so be extremely critical.

You/anyone are better off watching SSI (Space Studies Institute) colloquium/conference videos (they're far out speculative but at least they involve actual scientists or actual scientific approaches in their experiments including such things as chasing down error sources) than bothering with the guys you linked to. Or if you're looking to learn a little or become acquainted with topics by watching YouTube videos places like The Royal Institution, British Museum, PSW Science, Perimeter Institute, and other established institutions (Hah! There's a nice joke there :D ) are okay and have their own accounts with easily hundreds if not tens of thousands of hours of very high quality material.

Anyway I'm open to speculative science but it needs to be actual science like NIAC, SSI etc. and not "two good neighbors" (YouTube, "Pat & Mat") in a lab setting :D

So I've been trying to work up an estimator for how this virus spreads in an unexposed dense population based on the numbers from the news for various countries and I get a minimum doubling time around 4 days (1 positive person today leads to an additional positive person in about 4 days), net of people entering and leaving the positive set. And that leads to an equation that says for X positive today you can have ~1000x positive in 36-40 days. If the population is less dense or has significant immune percentage, that will slow it down, spread it out.

This is not a model for how individual infectees/infectors behave, but how the epidemic grows in an unprotected dense population with no "active measures" taken to inhibit new infections.

This is why it can take a month or two to start to get big numbers, big growth, and gives a way to estimate growth of the patient population over time. You go from patient zero to 1000 patients in about a month, 1 to a million in about two months, you could clobber all of India in about three months.

X * (1.2 ^^ Ndays) == estimator of active population in Ndays days.

1.2 ^^ 38 == ~1000

Strictly spitballing to see what the growth curve looks like, YMMV.

I saw the numbers some time ago. Might have been WHO. Doubling numbers were listed by country. Most were around 3 to 4 days. China at that stage with its lock down had a doubling number of 32 days.
Doubling every 4 days is less than 25% increase per day. Global increase per day according to the hopkins tracker looks to be around 20 - 25%.

Yes, those are where the 1.2 comes from, around 20-30%/day keeps popping up. But I wanted to see how the function looks, exponentials are hard to estimate, and I was trying to get a better handle on how the numbers ramp up over time, particularly WRT when things got started community-spread here in USA, and those numbers suggest late December early January, maybe early December.

Posted by: Bemildred | Mar 21 2020 12:20 utc | 178

I ran onto this when looking for more information on the first cluster in Wuhan.

The first cluster was reported 31st December, patients symptom in some cases starting early December. they consisted of workers at the fish market and frequent visitors.

The link is to a WHO report 12th January. At that time, they did not think there was human to human transmission. That being the case, the health workers and all others coming into contact with the first cluster would have been spreading the virus. This would have helped greatly in its exponential spread or transmission rate at the start.
