I tend to look at what the Chinese and Italians and South Korean’s are doing and saying.
They are named people that actually work with the disease rather than unnamed armchair experts or even named armchair experts that do not have experience where the epidemics have broken out.
Average age of those requiring hospital care 48.9 years. With hospital care deaths are limited to the elderly or those with other conditions.
During an epidemic, hospitals are swamped by those requiring hospital care. Armchair experts say the pandemic is scare mongering and lock downs ect not required because death toll is low. What will the death toll be with no medical care.

One takeaway from ‘hospital doc’ is that is seems your average 50-60 year old American is about as healthy as the average 80 year old Italian.
All the benefits of the Southern European diet.
Obesity rate in the US running at 42.4% (2017-18) so the Americans probably need to be more fearful than your average Thai or Malaysian.
Australia has now 6 dead – ages 90, 95, 82,77,78 & 86.
100% of deaths are people over 76 years old. Interpret this however you want.
Is it because all the younger people are taking longer to die? Yes – somebody has suggested this.

Australia have been closely following what China is doing and has learned. Coronovirus, so long as it is found before secondary problems arise is easily cured. Only problems will be if the patient is on other medications that will react with the antiviral drugs.
Australia has already successfully tested antiviral drugs (one that I know of).

Some ‘experts’ – real or imagined – are saying extreme pollution as a mitigating factor with regard to Wuhan/Hubei & the Po Valley of northern Italy.
Lots of pre-existing conditions especially in Hubei province, which I think is recognized as the most polluted area in China, so possibly the world.
Also it seems that the Po Valley is the most polluted area in Europe.
As for myself & family – eat healthy, a bit of vitamin c, zinc etc, sit in the sun, practice social distancing & prudent contact with inanimate objects.
Trot along to work, do my 4 x 12 hour shifts & enjoy my 4 days off.
The arseholes have looted my superannuation again.

I always try to be careful with electric things, but not because they are safe, because they are useful and I think I can handle them safely. As far as ambient electric fields, an iffy subject, perhaps we have worse dangers to worry about in the city, so I avoid staying around power lines, but not much beyond that, they attenuate very fast with distance. The wires in houses I don’t worry about much, except not to grab them.
By none of this do I mean to imply they are good for you.

Here’s the kind of thing I sometimes like to watch and it is extremely highly recommended to watch for anyone wanting to have a basic understanding of where physics is today:
“Mysteries of Modern Physics by Sean Carroll”, Darwin College lecture 20200129 on YouTube. Fresh off the press really since it’s only nearly two months old.
It is superb, in little over one hour it gives you the collective sum total of more than two thousand years of hard work by tens or hundreds of thousands of brilliant minds arguing against each other, theorizing, and most crucially testing over and over again against all flaws they can think of. Actual science.
For free except the cost of one hour of your life.
In fact one can just watch the first half if that’s all one wants but of course the later juicy bits build on that first half hour.
One isn’t at the starting line by watching that video but at least one is hovering outside in close proximity to the queue to get access to the spectators tribune and with some sense of avoiding all the bullshit hustlers trying to sell you fake tickets.
Those who aren’t even “that far” will be ignored because they’re somewhere else entirely, most likely in a world of their own with no resemblance to reality.

On covid 19 tests
I had a peek at false positive as the ‘Our World in Data’ site was silent on that point. Loud and clear on false negatives but zilch on false positive.
This was one site that seemed dispassionate and below is an extract.
The key patients were the ones identified as carrying COVID-19 by the chest CT, but not diagnosed through initial gene sequencing. Of these patients, 81% were eventually classified as probable or highly likely cases. This suggests an overall false positive rate for chest CT of around 6%.
However, this low false positive rate may be influenced by the setting of the experiment. At the epicenter of the viral outbreak, the doctors who select patients for testing were quite experienced in diagnosis, and as a result, the cohort of patients in this study were quite likely to ultimately test positive. In a setting where the outbreak was not so far developed, the false positive rate may be higher.
This mode of testing then may not be appropriate for all settings, but in environments where the virus is relatively common, the high sensitivity of chest CT analysis to COVID-19 means that it should be seriously considered as a key part of the diagnostic array.
Lets NOT LOCK UP the carriers on the basis of a PCR test alone. A substantive reliable test utilising a more accurate measure would be essential.

To “Tom_LX”: sorry but I watched most of it and I’m not interested, stinks of bullshit and pure fraud like thousands of others like them. It’s nowhere close enough to claim you have repeated your own experiment, that’s outright ridiculous, many other people need to do it independently based on published methodology and results and then publish their own results and it all needs genuine peer review.
These guys aren’t ever going to get that far and are not even trying by the looks of it. If they did they might be at the starting line but could still easily be entirely wrong (because being wrong is usual in genuine science).
Instead sending something to some lab only looks like an attempt at straight up fraud when presented as independent confirmation. It simply isn’t confirmation of anything at all since they only tested something which could very easily deliberately have been faked (vacuum deposition, it’s easy and cheap).
There’s actually no science presented in their video and except for name-dropping some equipment what little might sound like science is essentially gibberish with less detail and understanding than simplified “popular science”. Not NIAC material and I bet you they know it (if they know about NIAC, maybe I’m setting the bar too high) 😀
If they really are genuine I would suspect all they’ve done is vacuum deposition from impurities (metals!), but no I don’t think that’s the case, I think they’re plain fraudsters.
This is why I generally try to avoid wasting time on this kind of, well, bullshit. Lots of it on YouTube and everywhere one looks so be extremely critical.
You/anyone are better off watching SSI (Space Studies Institute) colloquium/conference videos (they’re far out speculative but at least they involve actual scientists or actual scientific approaches in their experiments including such things as chasing down error sources) than bothering with the guys you linked to. Or if you’re looking to learn a little or become acquainted with topics by watching YouTube videos places like The Royal Institution, British Museum, PSW Science, Perimeter Institute, and other established institutions (Hah! There’s a nice joke there 😀 ) are okay and have their own accounts with easily hundreds if not tens of thousands of hours of very high quality material.
Anyway I’m open to speculative science but it needs to be actual science like NIAC, SSI etc. and not “two good neighbors” (YouTube, “Pat & Mat”) in a lab setting 😀

So I’ve been trying to work up an estimator for how this virus spreads in an unexposed dense population based on the numbers from the news for various countries and I get a minimum doubling time around 4 days (1 positive person today leads to an additional positive person in about 4 days), net of people entering and leaving the positive set. And that leads to an equation that says for X positive today you can have ~1000x positive in 36-40 days. If the population is less dense or has significant immune percentage, that will slow it down, spread it out.
This is not a model for how individual infectees/infectors behave, but how the epidemic grows in an unprotected dense population with no “active measures” taken to inhibit new infections.
This is why it can take a month or two to start to get big numbers, big growth, and gives a way to estimate growth of the patient population over time. You go from patient zero to 1000 patients in about a month, 1 to a million in about two months, you could clobber all of India in about three months.
X * (1.2 ^^ Ndays) == estimator of active population in Ndays days.
1.2 ^^ 38 == ~1000
Strictly spitballing to see what the growth curve looks like, YMMV.

I saw the numbers some time ago. Might have been WHO. Doubling numbers were listed by country. Most were around 3 to 4 days. China at that stage with its lock down had a doubling number of 32 days.
Doubling every 4 days is less than 25% increase per day. Global increase per day according to the hopkins tracker looks to be around 20 – 25%.

But I wanted to see how the function looks, exponentials are hard to estimate, and I was trying to get a better handle on how the numbers ramp up over time, particularly WRT when things got started community-spread here in USA, and those numbers suggest late December early January, maybe early December.

The first cluster was reported 31st December, patients symptom in some cases starting early December. they consisted of workers at the fish market and frequent visitors.
The link is to a WHO report 12th January. At that time, they did not think there was human to human transmission. That being the case, the health workers and all others coming into contact with the first cluster would have been spreading the virus. This would have helped greatly in its exponential spread or transmission rate at the start.
