Netanyahoo's Corona Coup

Israel's prime minister Benjamin Netanyahoo has used the corona crisis to launch a coup.

Netanyahoo has served as caretaker prime minister since December 2018. Three parliament elections have since ended in stalemate. The first two, in April and September 2019, left him and his top opponent, the former army chief Benny Gantz, without sufficient parliamentary support to establish a government. Israels parliament, the Knesset has 120 seats. Gantz' Blue and White has won fewer seats than Netanyahoo's Likud (33-36).

But following the third round, early this month, Gantz assembled a narrow majority of parliamentary supporters and on March 16 President Reuven Rivlin tasked Gantz with forming Israel’s next government.

Netanyahoo is accused of bribery, fraud and breach of trust and the trial against him was scheduled to open on March 19.

On Sunday March 15 at 1:50 am Netanyahoo announced that the courts would be closed for public health reasons. His trial has been moved to late May. He also ordered the internal security service to secretly track the cellphone data of those suspected of possible infections. His Health Ministry prohibited any gathering of more than 10 people and instructed the parliament to also follow that rule.

On March 16 the newly elected Knesset members were sworn in three at a time by Knesset Speaker Yuli Edelstein. But two days later the speaker, a member of Netanyahoo's Likud party, refused to convene the house quoting the new health guidelines.

Without a house session no new speaker can be elected and the parliament would be out of business until some unknown time in the future. Meanwhile Netanyahoo is using emergency regulations to run the country.

Unable to use his majority Gantz asked the Israeli high court to intervene. This Monday, March 23, the court ruled without dissent that the speaker must convene the house for a plenum vote today. But that did not happen. Speaker Edelstein refused to follow the high court order, publicly resigned and said he had no intention for calling for a vote in the next 48 hours during which he is still the formal speaker.

On Friday the most senior law maker, Labor chief Amir Peretz, will become the interim speaker of the Knesset.

Should he call for a parliament session the first vote of the new Knesset would be for a new speaker and Gantz ally Meir Cohen is likely to win that vote. The next vote would then be on the arrangement committee which plans the parliament's agenda. Only then could the parliament start with some oversight over Netanyahoo's current movements.

But for now there is no parliament speaker, no deputies and no arrangement committee to convene and formally open the parliament. The Gantz coalition asked the High Court to hold Edelstein in contempt but as a Member of the Knesset Edelstein can claim immunity. That immunity again can only be lifted by a parliament vote.

By a series of moves Netanyahoo has neutralized the courts and the parliament and has thrown the country into a constitutional crisis. Even cabinet sessions are only held by telephone and without the cabinet members receiving the written proposals Netanyahoo wants them to vote on.

Meanwhile Netanyahoo puts out new emergency regulations every day that steadily get harsher:

Anyone who leaves their place of residence for reasons not exempted by the emergency regulations is liable to be fined up to NIS 5,000. A person who has gone beyond the permitted distance [of 100 meters] could receive an NIS 500 fine or six months’ imprisonment, while one who operates public transportation in violation of the regulations can be fined NIS 5,000 or be imprisoned for six months.

The emergency regulations were approved last night by the cabinet.

In which democracy can a cabinet enact imprisonment penalties without a parliament vote on an applicable law?

Netanyahoo's current plan seems to be to go for a fourth election. Every second day he is holding a prime time TV briefing to update the population on the corona crisis. That will likely bring him additional popularity. Even Trump's approval numbers for handling the coronavirus crisis are at 60% despite his botched response.

Gantz's current majority depends on support from the Arab parties. He will have difficulties forming a stable coalitions with them. His only alternative is to ally with Likud and that would likely keep Netanyahoo at the helm. If Gantz agrees to keep Netanyahoo at the top his Blue and White party may well fall apart.

By blocking the courts and parliament Netanyahoo wins time to make that scenario more likely.

Meanwhile the novel coronavirus will indiscriminately affect the Jewish as well as the Palestinian population. But the Zionist racism against the Palestinians guarantees that they will get less help. As both populations can not be separated that behavior will likely increase the peak and the consequences of the outbreak for everyone. Additionally the Haredim cult members will protest against the government's measures of prohibiting religious services and passover festivities. The current mixture of political, racial and epidemic pressure in Israel may well blow up in everyone's face and cause serious conflagrations.

Here is news of another, more welcome coup:
In Ireland the entire Healthcare system has been nationalised.
"We must of course have equality of treatment, patients with this virus will be treated for free, and they’ll be treated as part of a single, national hospital service.
For the duration of this crisis the State will take control of all private hospital facilities and manage all of the resources for the common benefit of all of our people…
There can be no room for public versus private when it comes to pandemic."

It will be difficult to reverse this in future.

Reading through this post I kept picturing a different prime minister with a funny little mustache under his nose. I guess it's all good as long as the military goes along with this little stunt and continues to obey orders.

Ireland understands what the Chinese already knew. The differing outlooks, one moral, the other immoral, forms the basis for the ideological confrontation I've seen coming since the massive Bank Crime of 2007-9 that created the crisis then. Here Martin Jacques buttresses my hypothesis mainly by reiterating Western hostility to China showing the motive to deprive it of being the outstanding development role model it's become. However, I caution about Jacques version of China's response since we have already been given a good review by the Global Times article I linked to yesterday that I implore barflies read prior to Jacques essay.

I'm curious to see how all residents of Occupied Palestine react to the medical emergency as unintended consequences could result. Martin Jacques scathing critic of the West also applies to Occupied Palestine:

"The tide has turned. In the greatest health crisis for one hundred years, China’s governance has risen to the challenge and delivered a mortal blow to coronavirus. In contrast, Western governance has proven to be blinded by its own hubris, unable to learn from China until far too late, ill-equipped to grasp the kind of radical action that is required of it. Trump is still largely in denial, the UK government is uttering warm words and doing precious little. I cannot think of any other example which so patently reveals the sheer competence and capacity of Chinese governance and the inferiority and infirmity of Western governance. In their hour of need, the latter has let their peoples down."

a while back somewhere else alluded to the "corona virus president" and I responded that the new president would be the old, since narratives can be shaped to fit the occasion and who will get more attention but the one in charge?

Otherwise I don't see any way out for the average American. But neither did I see that in 2016.

Another coup is happening here:

Stop the $6 Trillion Coronavirus Corporate Coup!
Matt Stoller

What Is In This Bill?

Congress is going to pass a bill with a lot of important stuff for workers, hospitals, cities and small business, and to address the pandemic. That's inevitable. And the bill on the table includes some of this. The question though is what else the bill includes, and that’s where we get into trouble. Because while we have to deal with the pandemic and crisis, we do not have to fundamentally eliminate the economic rights of all of us in the process.

Now, first I should say I don’t have the final deal in hand because it’s not public. I have only seen versions of the negotiating text. But I’m fairly sure most of these provisions haven’t changed, because the final sticking points were over various direct pandemic spending pieces. If I get that wrong, I’ll tell you in an update.

On Saturday, I went over the Christmas wish list of corporate lobbyists in this process, everything from Adidas letting people deduct gym costs to candymakers seeking a $500 million loan to Jeff Bezos and Elon Musk seeking $5B in loans for their space corporations. Of course what Wall Street sought, and got, dwarfed all of these requests.

Here’s how you can tell. A lot of reporters have been talking about how this is a $2 trillion deal, with a bunch of spending for hospitals and whatnot. But last night White House advisor Larry Kudlow announced it is actually a $6 trillion deal. And business reporter Charlie Gasparino said he’s hearing chatter that the total will be $10 trillion! Say what?!?

Charles Gasparino

i hear its $10 trillion or higher when all is said and done

Matt Stoller @matthewstoller

People are not internalizing what is happening. A $6 trillion credit allocation to Wall Street isn't a corporate handout, it's a coup. These numbers are a thorough restructuring of America.

March 24th 2020

How does this work? How can Wall Street have one impression of the amount of money, and everyone else have a different impression? Easy. Confusion, lying and bad reporting. If important people don’t talk about the boring sounding big stuff, then us non-important people sound crazy or nerdy mentioning it. It’s a giant game of social climbing, and the goal is to make all of us afraid to point out what’s going on. (Incidentally I hope Rep. Brad Sherman, who is an accountant and a key anti-bailout leader, really delves into this.)

So let’s talk about the big stuff that McConnell, Schumer and Pelosi are hiding.
The bill establishes a series of boring-sounding slush funds, and these will be given strange alphabet soup names by the Federal Reserve and Treasury, names like ‘special purpose vehicle’ and ‘ABS’ and ‘TALF’ and FDIC bank guarantees. That’s where the real money is. Here are some of these slush funds, starting with the ones that are more understandable:

$50 billion in loans and loan guarantees to airlines

$8 billion in loans and loan guarantees to air cargo carriers

$17 billion in loans and loan guarantees to “businesses critical to national security”

A $425 billion fund for loans and investments to be used at the discretion of the Secretary of the Treasury, Steve Mnuchin. He can use it to loan money, buy stock, buy bonds, whatever.

Obviously helping certain enterprises is important, so I’m not opposed to industry aid.
But the terms and conditions matter, and based on what I’m seeing, I don’t believe there will be meaningful restrictions on this aid. Executives and financiers are going to profit off of taxpayer money.

So that’s the stuff that’s been reported. Here’s what hasn’t, and why the bill goes up in value to $6-10 trillion.

An additional $4 trillion from the Federal Reserve in lending power to be lent to big corporations and banks.

Authorization to bail out money market funds, multi-trillion dollar unregulated bank-like deposits for the superrich.

Authorization for the the government through the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation to guarantee trillions of dollars of risky bank debt.

Posted by: Allen | Mar 25 2020 18:26 utc | 12

Allen @12--

Stoller's concluding paragraphs:

"We can fight this bill. Remember, Congress is going to pass a bill with a lot of important stuff for workers, hospitals, cities and small business, and to address the pandemic. That's inevitable. If we do stop it, Congress will simply pass the same bill, strip out all the slush funds, and take that stuff on in a few weeks. This is a crisis, they are getting sick, and they know we have to act.

"Even if this bill passes, we can keep fighting against the misuse of such a giant corporate slush fund, and continue to build a left-right coalition against cronyism. The one thing I have learned in politics is that we are not powerless, if we are honest about the moral terms.

"A lot of people are likely to die in the next few months, and it is going to be awful. And this is largely because of the same reckless leadership class that is now using this moment to hand political power over to financiers. But all of us are learning lessons about what it means to build a more resilient, free and democratic society and business community. My hope is that we can put those lessons to work, sooner rather than later." [My Emphasis]

IMO, the ideological basis for the coming conflict within the Outlaw US Empire are now set with more people becoming aware daily--The Moral High Ground of caring for people first versus the immoral gutter of catering to Wall Street's parasites to continue to feed of the body politic which will outweigh any benefits provided for the public.

The US is now the epicentre of COVID-19 as they've just surpassed Italy in having the highest number of active cases of any country, and growing by the hour ...

(Click twice on the Active Cases column header to see the countries sorted by Active Cases)

USA is #1
Italy is #2
Iran is #6
China is #12
Canada is #16

Given that the US has not been testing nearly as much as other wealthy countries, its number of active cases is actually probably even higher than that:

Just to say China's response worked for China.
It mightn't be the best for other nations.

I wonder if history will record that this Coronavirus was like a Global Reichstag Fire? Wall Street is the Matchmaker to this marriage of globalization and Big Brother. If Netanyahu can have a coup like this, who's to say that the template can not be made to order for other nations in the West? The disruption of assembles is the key to this. "Shelter-in-Place" isolation, and the restriction of movement, are the novel constructions that could help push this catastrophe forward.

Acting out of desperation to avoid criminal prosecution and jail for himself and probably also his bitch wife Sara, Netanyahu is trashing both whatever remains of Israeli "democracy" and the cherished rituals of Judaism. Passover must be coming soon and how will both the haredim and the born-again fundamentalists be persuaded not to congregate at sacred spots like the Wailing Wall to carry out prayers and rituals? Perhaps more than most other religions, Judaism is a social religion that depends on people coming together to worship.

If you can hear distant laughter, that's probably a former Austrian painter turned army corporal and politician snickering in his own corner of Sheol.

juliania @22--

Thanks for your reply! From what I can tell at this juncture, IF you want the virus controlled then emulating China's tactics to isolate it is likely the best practice. Unfortunately, people need to be sanctioned to behave properly to follow China's example. As was well proven in Oregon and elsewhere, just telling people what they must do in their best interest won't work as too many will gum up the works as happened here over the past weekend which I reported about. Home life is also altered. I rarely venture into public spaces and my weekly grocery forays will cease until next month. My wife has very little public contact at her job with the county; but being the head of her department, she's prevented from working from home and thus must interact with co-workers. Potential step-daughter in-law is currently laid off for the week from her job at Mikkydes, which is actually a good thing for her given her asthma and other health issues; it would be best for her to remain away from work until the all-clear gets sounded. Step-son works for a grocer and is deemed a vital worker, so he gets to be exposed daily; I'd like for him to wear a hazmat suit. We're now staggering our meals and policing our own dirty dishes etc. We're also fortunate we can use different entrances to the house. Our goal is to practice the best prevention possible so none of us gets afflicted. As I wrote several days ago, our local healthcare system is inadequate for our potential needs, thus the need to avoid the possibility of a community contagion. Our lack of social interactions going back to the New Year is also a plus. Yet, once the all-clear's given, COVID-19 still remains a threat just as all other viruses, so proper hygiene and sanitation must still be observed rigorously.

Posted by: karlof1 | Mar 25 2020 20:08 utc | 33

The number of confirmed cases in the US has increase by just over 20% in the last 24 hours. This gives us a doubling time of about 3.5 days. That means the US will hit a quarter million cases this weekend, half a million by next Wednesday, and about a million confirmed cases by the end of next week.

Considering the time delay for symptoms to show we can assume that million people who will be confirmed by next week are already infected. Without a hard lockdown we can assume that each of that million will infect another two to three people.

Let's see how far off I am this Saturday, next Wednesday, and the following Saturday. If I am right about this then Americans might want to hold onto their assets because the ride is about to get rough.

Karl Marx in Wuhan: how Chinese socialism is defeating COVID-19

The article's first half is familiar ground, so I recommend the second half which starts with the header "Under socialism, people come before profit."
Whereas the MSM frames the difference in virus response as between democracy and authoritarianism, this article recasts it as between capitalism and socialism, in which the government has not been captured by the billionaire class and capital. And in which grassroots activism is mobilized, not against some status quo politics, but rather in concert with the state.

The FDIC is insisting that Americans keep their money in the Banks.

The FDIC insists that there’s nothing to worry about.
That’s ridiculous. The FDIC only has $109 billion to insure the entire $13 trillion US banking system.
That’s less than 1%!

As old "debts" will either become unpayable or on hold (mortgages etc)
their business model will be screwed if they cannot issue new debt.

(Q. Is the Fiat monetary system that needs the creation of debt ALSO totally screwed.?)

Probably not the most humane plan. How about this one instead.
Shut down non-essential operations and cover payroll during shutdown (since the government already prints out and distributes all of the payroll money in the first place). Make sure that all necessary and critical operations continue to function safely (completely within the capabilities of modern societies and governments), with attention to preventing the spread of contamination, and with a mind to disinfection and safety. Provide all necessary support to the population during the execution of containment and treatment protocols. Then, ride out the storm. After that eliminate the offending black-op bio-labs. Or maybe even before and during (if you can swing it).

Posted by: james | Mar 26 2020 0:32 utc | 54

The 'how about this instead' plan will work much better than, say for instance,

As its capitalist system finally begins its long-anticipated implosion, America increasingly drops its propaganda mask of being the "Land of the Free" (which it has NEVER been) and shows its true colors.

According the article below, the American military has prepared plans to take over the country, if civil disobedience and rebellion arise--including the deployment of US troops throughout the country. In fact, "On February 1, Defense Secretary Mark Esper signed a secret set of Warning Orders (WARNORD) putting NORTHCOM and units deployed to the eastern seaboard on alert that they should 'prepare to deploy,' including to the 'National Capital Region.'”

These developments would be highly ironic, as Americans would finally get a taste of their own medicine and be treated like Iraqis, Afghanis, Syrians, and others have been treated while living under the American Evil Empire's military jackboots.

Also, all Patriotic Americans should remember to mouth the requisite propaganda phrases like "Support the Troops" and "Thank You for Your Service," when the US military invades their cities!

what is transpiring is like some script that would have been rejected as too fantastic and far from reality before 9/11. It's like you wipe your eyes and think - that was a bad dream. As for Israel - it couldn't have happened to a nicer country. It is worrisome for the precedent it sets - especially with the present US President. I was around when Nixon was President. He wouldn't have hesitated to stay in power if these circumstances had been available to him. But you know, back in the 60s "they" asssinated JFK, RFK, and MLK and got away with it. So it has gotten worse every decade since.

I don't know why everyone is praising China up so much. They MASSIVELY downplayed the seriousness of this virus. Taiwan was screaming out to WHO in early Jan that China had a new emerging epidemic to no avail. China used it's clout & money (no doubt) to suppress the stories/warnings. They MUST have downplayed the number of dead as well, thus lulling the rest of the world into a sense of false security. Videos coming out of China since early Jan - since deleted/censored by whoever - showed how bad it was.

Granted the west didn't react swiftly enough & we will pay the price. Our Govt here in New Zealand have been incredibly incompetent. Up until a few days ago returning NZers weren't temperature checked at the border - they only had to "self isolate" at home. We have gone into a 28 day lock down but we can still go to pharmacy & supermarkets though for how much longer I don't know . . . . . a massive case of too little too late !!

A shout out to the "Moon" community - treat this seriously, be safe & keep your families safe. As we can see by Nancy Pelosis shenanigans TPTB will take advantage if they can.

You've been soaking up the US disinformation campaign against China. This is timetable for January:

China reported there was a novel virus to the WHO on Jan. 3 -- is that early enough in January for you?
China shared the full genome sequence to the WHO and the intl community on Jan 7th.
China invited the WHO to send an investigative team to Wuhan on the 10th. The WHO investigative team had free access to talk to anyone and go anywhere.

That's what transparency looks like.
I await the day when the US govt invites the WHO to investigate and evaluate its virus response.
It's very transparent that would never happen, but do let me indulge this fantasy of mine.

Official WHO report on China (p. 31):

International and interregional cooperation and information sharing:
From 3 January 2020, information on COVID-19 cases has been reported to WHO daily. Full genome sequences of the new virus were shared with WHO and the international community immediately after the pathogen was identified on 7 January. On 10 January, an expert group involving Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwanese technical experts and a World Health Organization team was invited to visit Wuhan. A set of nucleic acid primer sand probes for PCR detection for COVID-19 was released on 21 January.

I wonder whether Trump intends to repeat a coup of sorts? Remember how he's always coyly hinting
that he might not leave office? He's such a blabbermouth that if such a plan were afoot
it wd be in character for him to blabber about it.

The Courts are suspended in a case in the US that I know of-- and will not reopen until May.
If this is general, or becomes general then it wd be a suspension of habeas corpus.
You cd be arrested and not brought to trial.

On another matter, police stopped a vehicle today to inquire whether
the passengers' activities were "really essential."

"A Swiss Doctor on Covid-19" has been expanded, brought up to date,
has links documenting most data on Corona --

Here’s a sad story. A coronavirus elegy, if you like.

I was speaking to a my mother yesterday and she told me about a neighbour’s son. At the age of 26 he was dead. Lost his job due to the coronavirus lock down (like millions of other people). He was apparently (like millions of other people living in the neo-liberal hellhole that Western ‘democracies’ have become) already struggling with rent, bills and feeding his family – redundancy was, it seems, one more blow than he could bear. He went to the top of his apartment building and threw himself off. Life over.

This story will be repeated thousands and thousands and thousands of times in the coming month. The economic costs of coronavirus and the consequent despair, suicides, broken dream and destroyed lives are almost incalculable...I believe they will kill far more people than the virus...

The link you posted is written by some ignorant about the most basic of facts concerning the structure of the healthcare system in Ireland. The vast majority of healthcare facilities are already "nationalised", because Irelands healthcare system is similar to the UK's BHS

The Irish Gov has NOT nationalised private hospitals. Nor does it plan to.

This is not surprising to anyone with even the most cursory information concerning the hardcore neolibral policies of the political party current holding the reigns of power.

What has happened is that the gov't has entered into negotiation to agree a contract for private hospitals to be used as covid 19 treatment centers. Nothing more. They will pay those private hospitals quite handsomely for the privilege.

And after covid 19 receeds as danger those hospitals will return to their previous business model

Every second day he is holding a prime time TV briefing to update the population on the corona crisis. That will likely bring him additional popularity. Even Trump's approval numbers for handling the coronavirus crisis are at 60% despite his botched response.
It's the same as support for governments in wartime. If things go well, the bump in support will last. If, however, things don't go well, support could be rapidly destroyed.

It's rather chancy, but then Netanyahu probably thinks it's his last chance anyway.

Would someone please explain?

When a long link is included in a comment as its naked self it causes some browsers extreme grief such that each line of text is multiple screen widths and it is most annoying to read.

Users will find to the right of the Name: Email:URL: just above the comment box there is a series of 'allowed HTML Tags:'

Please use the tag: Headline (not the URL) which embeds the URL you wish to post behind a screen (so to speak) that prevents the line blow out aggravation.

The 'screen' is a highlighted word you insert instead of those words -Headline (not the URL). If you look at my post following yours you will see the word 'cure' highlighted and behind that is a url to a twitter site. If you scroll over that highlighted word the URL will be displayed at the bottom of your screen.

Mind you the entire blog started off kaput today with line length off to wherever. First time ever in years that I have seen this. So now I understand the level of venom.

Does that assist?

In a few years I'm expecting some Israeli computer whiz to write a book/article about how his modelling software helped Netanyahu stick it to Gantz in Israeli election after election. To remain in power, Netanyahu needs to use the threatened waves of infection to remove restrictions early so that the next wave of infections comes along before there is time to hold an election and the next period of social distancing is in imposed. With certain sources suggesting that the Coronavirus epidemic will last for two years, the gives Netanyahu considerable time in office. The only problem for Netanyahu is if this blatant mismanagement results in more deaths among his supporters than Gantz's.

BTW, it also wouldn't surprise me if it's eventually revealed that this crisis was manufactured by the CIA or some other part of the US IC. I'm not suggesting that any part of the US IC developed and released the Coronavirus in China, just that someone in the US IC thought it would be a good idea to use social media to hype what would otherwise have been a trivial event following the mutation of an existing Coronavirus into a new variety. It'll be interesting to see the blowback if this turns out to be a disaster for the US as well

Also Johnson has said this crisis will be "defeated in twelve weeks" and Trump has said "the US will be open by Easter. Reminds me of the imbeciles who thought WW1 would "be over by Christmas (they meant Christmas 1914 and not Christmas 1918). Since both have previously be disastrously wrong with their plans and prediction. I have little faith in either prediction being true. While many restrictions in China have been lifted, they are still quarantining anyone who arrives in the country for 14 days. My niece and her husband who recently returned there, both tested positive for Coronavirus (infected in UK) even though the only symptom she had was loss of her sense of taste and smell and he was symptom-less, they have now been consigned to isolation in hospital for the next month. China is accepting that this epidemic will come in waves and isolating itself from the outside world as much as possible, the US and UK are still in denial on the importance of this.
Finally, both Trump and Johnson are on target to be worse "mass murderers" than Assad and Putin. Assad has "murdered" about 25,000 civilians and Putin even less. Because of their arrogance, greed, and stupidity, Trump could be on target to kill about 2.5 million while Johnson could be on target for killing about 500,000. Time for R2P regime change in US and UK?

Here are some of the most common theories being tossed around for the Covid-19 pandemic.
I'd be interested in what barflies think is the most to least likely.

I think it's 1-2-3-4-5-6, with 1 and 2 being very close.

1. Natural origin - accidental release
Sometime in October or November last year a person in Wuhan ate a bat that was carrying the common coronavirus. The virus mutated into the novel SARS-CoV-2 either in the bat or through an intermediate host, possibly a pangolin. Both pangolins and bats were sold at the wet market in Wuhan prior to the outbreak. Patient 0 became a carrier and the virus rapidly spread to other people.

2. Laboratory origin - accidental release
The virus was created at the Level 4 bio lab in Wuhan as part of routine vaccine or bio-weapon research. Somehow it was accidently released outside the facility late last year, possibly through an infected worker or a stolen lab animal. People in Wuhan started getting sick and dying.

3. Laboratory origin - accidental release
The virus was created at an American bio lab, either in the US or some other country. Somehow it was accidently released outside the facility, possibly through an infected worker or by some other means. The virus was passed from person to person, and the breakout was eventually discovered in Wuhan.

4. Laboratory origin - intentional release
The virus was released as part of a US black-op in order to damage China. The global consequences were not foreseen and the plan turned into a major global screw-up. Trump had *no* foreknowledge of the plan.

5. Laboratory origin - intentional release
The virus was released as part of a US black-op in order to damage China. Global consequences were not foreseen and the plan turned into a major global screw-up. Trump had foreknowledge of, and approved the plan.

6. Laboratory origin - intentional release
The virus was released as part of a Chinese master black-op to strike a blow at Western economies.

No comment. More than 50 persons have lost AN EYE last year by participating to demonstrations that were entirely justified: where are the workers you would need more at the moment? Many ppl in France consider that it is entirely normal for a wealthy couple to have 2 apartments + a house in the countryside. They made their money at a time jobs were available, rents and housing prices were cheap. And now they need the small people continue take care of them in these kind of circumstances, unprotected, badly paid, under-staffed.
And they should not be able to demonstrate when it is over, say you? It was their duty?

Blue and White on verge of split, Gantz candidate for speaker

Likud's bloc to support Gantz in vote.

In a dramatic turn of events, Blue and White leader Benny Gantz will be voted in as the next speaker of the Knesset on Thursday after his party reached an agreement with Likud that could result in the breakup of Gantz's party.[.]

The Likud has objected to Blue and White MK Meir Cohen becoming Knesset speaker, because he is from the Yesh Atid party in Blue and White that may end up staying out of a national unity government if it is initially led by Netanyahu. Yesh Atid leader Yair Lapid has an agreement with Gantz that the speaker must come from his party.[.]

Appointing Gantz as speaker gives time for coalition negotiations between Likud and Blue and White, which intensified on Thursday at the request of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu (Likud) and Blue and White leader Benny Gantz.[.]

Institute for Social Research have developed a 16-point plan: “In Light of the Global Pandemic, Focus Attention on the People.”
I wonder if implementation of any of the recommendations are possible in US.

1) Immediate suspension of all work, except essential medical and logistical personnel and those required to produce and distribute food and necessities, without any loss of wages. The state must assume the cost of the wages for the period of the quarantine.

2) Health, food supply, and public safety must be maintained in an organized manner. Emergency grain stocks must be immediately released for distribution amongst the poor.

3) Schools must all be suspended.

4) Immediate socialization of hospitals and medical centers so that they do not worry about the profit motive as the crisis unfolds. These medical centers must be under the control of the government’s health campaign.

5) Immediate nationalization of pharmaceutical companies, and immediate international cooperation amongst them to find a vaccine and easier testing devices. Abolishment of intellectual property in the medical field.

6) Immediate testing of all people. Immediate mobilization of tests and support for medical personnel who are at the frontlines of this pandemic.

7) Immediate speed-up of production for materials necessary to deal with the crisis (testing kits, masks, respirators).

8) Immediate closure of global financial markets.

9) Immediate gathering of the finances to prevent the bankruptcy of governments.

10) Immediate cancellation of all non-corporate debts.

11) Immediate end to all rent and mortgage payments, as well as an end to evictions; this includes the immediate provision of adequate housing as a basic human right. Decent housing must be a right for all citizens guaranteed by the state.

12) Immediate absorption of all utility payments by the state—water, electricity, and internet provided as part of a human right; where these utilities are not universally accessible, we call for them to be provided with immediate effect.

13) Immediate end to the unilateral, criminal sanctions regimes and economic blockades that impact countries such as Cuba, Iran, and Venezuela and prevent them from importing necessary medical supplies.

14) Urgent support for the peasantry to increase the production of healthy food and supply it to the government for direct distribution.

15) Suspension of the dollar as an international currency and request that the United Nations urgently call a new international conference to propose a common international currency.

16) Ensure a universal minimum income in every country. This makes it possible to guarantee support from the state for millions of families who are out of work, working in extremely precarious conditions or self-employed. The current capitalist system excludes millions of people from formal jobs. The state should provide employment and a dignified life for the population. The cost of the Universal Basic Income can be covered by defense budgets, in particular the expense of arms and ammunition.

Oh really? Demonstrators in France aren't violent? Pull the other one. I've seen it personally as well as on video. Everybody joins in, it's not one side only. Though it is true that les flics should be a lot more restrained, and they aren't.

In particular it's nothing to do with the current Macron regime. The present problems go back to the time of Hollande and Sarkozy at the minimum, and that means all sides of the political spectrum. e.g. for example, disappearance of a massive stock of surgical masks, enough for the entire French medical system in the current crisis, last seen in 2009. Who was president in 2009?

In the previous Covid thread I commented on the differences between implementing the Chinese solution in China, and attempting to do use the same methods in the West - in China the government is trusted, as it haa built up a record of acting in the interests of the people, whereas in the West the governments are fundamentally distrusted, as they have built up records of lies, persistent deception and exploitation, and established a pattern of the misuse of laws to give advantage to the elite. When the Chinese government expect their citizens to make available detailed traces of their movements by using the wechat social app to register their movements, citizens readily comply, because they quickly see that it is in the best interests of everybody to facilitate the tracing of contacts of infected individuals.

Just try that in the West - while many will comply, there will be significant protests and obstructions. Many will question the intentions of the authorities in tracing people - is it to eliminate the virus, or is it to eliminate well-established rights? The perfect breeding ground for conspiracy theories of all descriptions - we have seen plenty of hints of that already, and there will be more to come.

Now consider what happens to people's confidence in Western Covid restrictions when some psychopathic and widely despised Nuttery PM blatently exploits genuine Covid dangers to neuter his country's courts and parliament - immediately after losing an election - to prevent a handover of power to the legitimate new government and to sterilise attempts to pursue justice against him for gross corruption, thereby abusing his power as PM in unprecedented ways just to stave off jail.

When Nuttery imposes extreme restrictions on movement including potential jail terms by decree, just in a cynical attempt to keep himself out of jail, what effect is this going to have on the enforceability of restrictive anti-Covid measures in Western countries - even those which are genuinely intended to combat the spread of Covid, let alone any measures by authoritarian governments like the US and UK that might indeed be cynically trying to exploit the Covid situation to push through restrictions and surveillance measures that they secretly crave for and intend to hold onto for purely authoritarian reasons? What effect is it going to have on confidence in governance? What effect will it have on compliance, and thereby on the subsequent spread of Covid? What effect will it have on the availability of different government strategies for coping with the spread of Covid? And, on the other hand (as far as authoritarian interests are concerned), what effect will it have on the range of opportunities perceived by authoritarians to be available to exploit Covid for cynical ends, and how will that affect Western governments' attitude towards Nuttery?

In my view, Netanyahoo's exploitation of Covid in such a cynical and extreme manner will inevitably and unavoidably have meaningful adverse consequences on the implementation of viable control strategies against the spread of Covid in some parts of the Western Empire. It may come to pass that even the most virulently pro-Netanyahoo governments will now start to withdraw their support for him in consequence.

One hopes that new criminal charges will be made quickly against Netanyahoo for abuse of power, contempt of court, contempt of parliament, conspiracy to pervert the course of justice, conspiracy to pervert regulations protecting against dangerous infectious diseases, and treason.

Scott Ritter
The Staggering Collapse Of U.S. Intelligence On The Coronavirus

An agency tasked with tracking future bio threats fell down on the job, causing us to wonder what else we don't know.

The coronavirus pandemic has impacted the United States unlike any other event in recent history, proving to be far more disruptive to American society, and far most damaging to the U.S. economy, than even the events of 9/11.

The CDC has recently acknowledged, during a hearing of the House Oversight Committee on March 11, that its biosurveillance program has uncovered evidence that Americans who had previously died to what had been originally diagnosed as influenza have, through post-mortem testing, been found to have actually have perished from the coronavirus.

The U.S. response is something President Trump has likened to a “war,” going so far as to label himself a “wartime President,” leading the U.S. against “the toughest enemy” in a struggle in which he vows “total victory.” If the fight against the coronavirus is a war, then the virus clearly took the U.S. government by surprise. “Certainly we didn’t get an early run on it, Trump noted in a press conference on March 17. “It would’ve been helpful if we knew about it earlier.”

The coronavirus was clearly part of the NCMI’s remit. And yet its first Infectious Disease Risk Assessment for COVID-19 was issued on January 5, 2020, reporting that 59 people had been taken ill in Wuhan, China. This report was derived not from any sensitive intelligence collection effort or independent biosurveillance activity, but rather from a report issued to the WHO by the Wuhan Municipal Health Commission, dated January 5, 2020.

Almost everything the NCMI knew about the current situation in Wuhan came from the WHO, which had been working very closely with Chinese authorities from the Chinese Center of Disease Control (CCDC) to determine the origin and nature of the coronavirus outbreak.
While a great deal of attention has been paid to the Huanan Seafood Wholesale Market in the city of Wuhan, which sells live poultry, fish, and several kinds of wild animals to the public, a detailed investigation by the Joint Field Epidemiology Investigation Team, a specialized task force working under the auspices of the Chinese Center for Disease Control (CCDC), found that the COVID-19 epidemic did not originate by animal-to-human transmission in the Huanan Seafood Wholesale Market, as originally believed, but rather human-to-human transmission totally unrelated to the operation of the market.

@ SteveK9
I read the article on the Saker, and am not convinced. He is not unique in this treatment, and the Chinese already knew about it. In any case, the numbers would be heavily impacted and we will see soon if there is any more efficacy with the trials they're doing in the US as well.
For now, it's not looking good. For one, stop looking at the number of infected cases - most of the countries that are currently having the high death tolls are also not preparing by increasing their testing capacity. Which means you can only measure a country's problem by the doubling rate of daily deaths, (over 2-3 days, or longer): whether this doubling rate is accelerating (like in the US - it is almost at a 2 day doubling rate already) or slowing down (such as Italy). The US is likely going to have thousands of deaths per day by Easter. Trump, and his cohorts (who continue to stand easily within 3 feet of each other at press conferences, something you don't see the NY'ers do, nor the European or Canadian heads of state), are going to get severely rattled because some of the politicians will start dying.
I'd be surprised if Biden is still alive by the election. And Hillary is (delightfully) quiet these days.

I wonder if implementation of any of the recommendations are possible in US.

Just consider for a microsecond the historical evidence, and the answer should be obvious - most well-known western governments, led by the US and UK, would not hesitate to start a world war to prevent even a minority of those wishes from materialising, so they would certainly not be willing to lose such a war without even starting it.

Venezuela's Maduro to face U.S. drug trafficking charges: source

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The U.S. government is expected to bring criminal charges against Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and at least a half-dozen other Venezuelan officials on Thursday, accusing them of involvement in drug trafficking, a person familiar with the matter said.[.]

The Justice Department is expected to unseal the charges against Maduro, a socialist leader who already faces U.S. sanctions and has been the target of a U.S. pressure campaign aimed at pushing him from power, the source told Reuters.

The indictment, a rare U.S. action against a sitting foreign head of state, marks a serious escalation against Maduro by Washington at a time when some U.S. officials have privately said President Donald Trump is increasingly frustrated with the results of his Venezuela policy.[.]

This study of election disruptions is looking more suspicious:

Why a Shadowy Tech Firm With Ties to Israeli Intelligence Is Running Doomsday Election Simulations

What (if anything) did they know about the new coronavirus when they began to study election disruption?

New Zealand Kiwis apparently are just as brainwashed as Americans!

They are all part of the AngloSphere and will believe whatever idiotic propaganda their regimes and "free press" tell them to believe--like non-existent Iraqi Weapons of Mass Destruction; the (fraudulent) War on Terror; "Assad gassing his own people in Douma, Syria"; "Moderate Headchoppers in Syria are really Pro-Democracy Rebels"; "Russia is meddling in our beloved Western democracies"; or "China covered up the COVID-19 outbreak."

The Anglo Americans in general are without the doubt most ignorant and arrogant bastards on this planet.

Check out Donald Trump's January 24th tweet in this article below where he praises China for its *transparency* and its efforts to contain the coronavirus. Apparently, the Donald has forgotten his own words down the Orwellian MemoryHole, as he now is trying blame China for its lack of transparency!
