Just want to thank Circe for not using the all caps in long strings lately – much appreciated! Also want to let Circe know I rang my relatives in Texas and convinced them with rational discussion to vote today for Bernie Sanders without fail. None of us, however, will follow his instructions to vote for the other dem if Sanders is not the nominee.
On a different political note, I miss Joe Bageant more than words can say. Bill Blum, too.

I personally canvassed for Bernie in my mixed-income town in MA. Results mirrored the polls. Nearly all those under 35 intended to vote Bernie. Many older voters were on the fence, concerned about “electability”. Held a sign outside the polls this morning with another Bernie supporter. No supporters of other candidates in sight.

Sadly I reckon Bernie Saunders will be ousted by the powers that don’t want him to be successful in the bordello that is the Washington politik.
I find it amusing he’s labeled as a Socialist. He’s a champagne socialist at best.
I fall about laughing when he claims he’s going to tell Putin anything at all.
Should the miracle of U.S. democracy pass and he’s elected POTUS, meeting Vladimir Vladimirovich will be a rather large culture shock methinks.

Very smart establishment tactic. A combo of long predicted Biden win in South Carolina with resignation of Klob and Butti and endorsement may give Biden plurality in some states. Strategy of picking a senile champion with “stellar” Obama credentials and a mine of paydirt for Republican to excavate is dubious. But the youngsters, starting from Beto and ending with Klob/Butti pair of mixed twins proved to be so-so campaigners at their best. BTW, Steyer dropped after spending 200 M+ with nary a comment. The same may happen to Little Mike. Direct reign of billionaires in USA seems to be a failing experiment (assuming that Little Mike is correct when he says that Donald “I will not show tax return to anyone” Trump is a fake billionaire), or a work still in progress.

Okay this one’s a doozie! Everyone knows Judge Judy is supporting Mike Bloomberg right? So today on MSNBC she made a couple of remarkable statements.
The first is that she believes Trump will defeat Biden. And that he’s not been fully vetted and was treated by Democrats with kid gloves, and so Biden’s just a fantasy cause Trump will shred him. No news there…I could have told her that!
But here’s the kicker: She said (and I can’t believe she said it this way, that BERNIE’S A REALLY NICE GUY…tell me something I don’t know, Judge! Now for the outrage of the Century: She said: So why risk it on a fantasy or SOMEBODY WHO’S JUST A REALLY NICE GUY?
WHUT? Because he IS a nice guy! How rare is that in politics?
Of course he’s worth the risk, everyone knows he’s the genuine deal and the genuine deal, Bernie Sanders, is the only one that can and will defeat Trump. Period close.
(I’d make a better judge.)

What is there to comment on? The majority right in the DNC will be pushing Biden, the left of right under Sanders will be cheated out of the nomination and Trump will rule another 4 years.
That there is a “left” in the Democrat Party is an illusion, what counts for the left there would be the equivalent of the CDU in Germany under Merkel.

Yes. I can only imagine that people in the US people cope with this insanity because of long standing myths and traditions that they seem to be very passionate about (which can also be a very good thing, I believe).
I think we should always be careful in commenting on what happens in other countries (it would certainly make the world easier to come together and manage as a whole). But it always boggles me how the US, a country that never held a direct election for its highest office, sees itself fit to destroy entire countries and use nuclear weapons in the name of “democracy” and “freedom”.
I live in Brazil. I regret to say we are a simple, very poor and uneducated people. But we dont have electoral districts, electoral colleges, jerrymandering and all of that nonsense. We have many parties, and it is their job to articulate coalitions in the local as in the national stage. It’s far from what the word democracy implies (as a goal or a dream), but it was working fairly well until a US-backed judiciary-media circus illegaly removed and elected president and forbade the most popular candidate in the last election, so now we are gradualy travelling the road to a failed stated.
Anyways… I do wish all the light and the hope in the world to the american electorate today. We sure need it everywhere in the globe.

I got 10 cents on Bernie beating Biden by 8% or more, by vote count across all states voting today. (36-28 or thereabouts).
5 cents on Warren above the 15% threshold in most states / cong. districts.

Here on the edge of a Minnesota city, in what could be described as Hillary/Donald territory, turnout is light. However, an n=1 is not a good sample size. That being said, I wonder if Kolbocop shot Biden in the foot, as the Dena have been using female identity politics for motivation. The other report is that she realized she was going to lose her home state. My thought is that she was following DNC dictates. Biden, however, is known not to be a friend of women.

Well, if your political system cannot guard itself against foreign intrusion and manipulation, I would personally consider that to be a serious–perhaps fatal–flaw.
Furthermore, as an American, I can tell that up until a few short generations ago, our system worked well enough, too, despite it’s shortcomings. I used to believe that our current problems were owing to a lack of parliamentary democracy (i.e., the fact that we can only have two parties), but seeing that the exact same thing that happened to us has now happened to all of Europe as well, I no longer believe that arcane voting procedures are the real cause of our problems.
It seems that only a handful of countries in the world have successfully been able to resist being taken over by the oligarchy that now runs the West, and few of them are all that democratic: Russia, China, Iran, N. Korea, Cuba. (Then again, our own countries aren’t in any real sense ‘democratic’ either, so I guess that shouldn’t be a factor in my analysis.)
And before you get upset with me, please realize that I, too, was sympathetic to Lula.

Last election I voted for American Pharoah. I felt that a horse would do a better job that’s Hillary and Trump, and I still feel that way and will vote for American Pharoah again this cycle. But if Trump dumps Sus-Pence and takes Haley as VP, I’m voting for the other guy.

The thing to watch today will be the vote stealing by the Democrat oligarchy. They are the world champions at every sort of electoral malfeasance. Remember in 2016 how Bernie almost won New York until Brooklyn, his hometown, was counted and more than 20,000 voters disappeared? Then there was California where millions of votes went uncounted and Hillary was called the winner.
The Democrats are not really a political party in the sense that europeans understand the term, more like an agglomeration of electoral machines, controlled by politicians owned by vested interests, making up the rules as they go along.
With both Biden and Warren desperate for anything that can be portrayed as momentum expect the unexpected: repeats of the sort of nonsense we saw in Iowa and local precincts in which 110% of the electorate give unanimous support to the candidate most likely to take away their social security and wave ‘bye-bye’ as they die untreated of diseases. Or malnutrition.

nd the cherry on top of the electoral sundae in today’s primaries will be the near unanimity with which the most glaring irregularities are ignored by the media, and anyone suggesting that 2+2= anything as predictable as 4 will be called a conspiracy theorist, working for Putin and the KGB.

My sincere wish is for americans to understand what the word Socialism really defines. I am aghast at the fact that many “educated” people here in america have absolutely no idea (done by design:mission accomplished) what the word means, but will yell about the fact that we can’t have it here in america, when we absolutely have it here in the major functions of american society. Banks bailed out: socialism, MIC: socialism, large sports venues for teams: socialism, etc. Your house foreclosed upon by shady bank: naked capitalism, .0001% paid on interest savings: naked capitalism, poor wages: naked capitalism, dangerous workplace: naked capitalism, etc.
I say this to say that Bernie is not a socialist and I know that I am not saying anything new. The Joker said: “This town needs an enema!!”, and it still does. Like the last election, I put my support behind large meteor, the one and only candidate that can help the human race.

I took a walk to my local precinct in Texas, this morning, and voted for Bernie Sanders. The support thrown in for Biden by candidates Buttigieg and Klobuchar, as they withdrew from their presidential race over the weekend, makes their runs for president look very superficial and weak.
Today, Ryan Grim, D.C. bureau chief for The Intercept (interviewed on Democracy Now) correctly observes that the more educated voters that supported those two dropout candidates, were originally drawn to them after careful consideration that Biden was absolutely not up to the task of beating Trump in the General Election. And when Buttigieg and Klobuchar now tell them how wonderful Joe is, they are not so likely to be convinced.
I do feel more hopeful and am willing to believe as the reporter does, that the timing of these Biden endorsements is politically inept and feeds into Bernie’s momentum. We will see.
What’s the mystery? Lock Assange in solitary for months and gee golly, suddenly no one to expose how SCarolina was fixed for Joe Biden. Just like Debbie Wasserman screwed Bernie in 2016. Media “explains” it was the “black vote.” You bet. Sure Joe got 51pc. I guess so.

I’ve been watching the latest episodes of Homeland. The real life peace talks with the Taliban are portrayed almost in real time with the fictional events as portrayed in Homeland.The events are eerily similar. It’s hard to discern if Homeland is upstream of real life or vice versa or if they’re hand in glove with each other. The reason I bring this up is because another situation portrayed in Homeland is of the President choosing for the first time in history, his Vice President from the opposing party.

Really what has happened is power has been consolidated in the hands of the few for a very long time. They killed JFK, RFK, MLK, Malcolm X, probably just tried to kill Shokin as mentioned above… and many others like Solemani, Arafat, Hussein, Gadaffi, etc. Politics is just a sideshow they put on to justify their rule and give themselves legitimacy. The idea that Bernie Sanders is going to take power away from them is ridiculous. It would be great if he won. It helps delegitimize their rule. Put they aren’t going to let an election stop them. They are our rulers. They have spent decades consolidating power. They aren’t going to give it up over a stupid election. Look at what they have done to Assange and Manning. For uncovering and reporting US crimes against humanity. The USA is evil. Probably the greatest evil and threat to humanity the world has ever known. This is really what is has come to. The only people capable of stopping it are Russians and Chinese. Nobody else has the power to stop what this country has become.

@Seamus Padraig, please don’t worry, of course I won’t be upset. I am the one here trying to be polite when talking about a foreign country’s election. On top of that, I am going counter to a strong argument that existed in the liberal left here, some years ago, that blames our political system for our predicament. But in the end it wasn’t the party or the election system that failed, but the corruption in the judiciary system, now aligned with the armed forces to really go to town with public money while the rest of the country collapses. Nevertheless, I just wanted to corroborate on @TrailerTrash’s comment and show that, you know, the rest of the world also has some experience in running elections, and perhaps these systems can provide interesting examples for youin the US. For example, here we have elections always on a sunday, so that it is easier for all to participate. Either way, I am still hoping for the best for you in the 2020 cycle.

This election, just as all the elections that have come before it are a macabre pantomime designed to protect the imperial forces who rule Western civilization.
The real power is a syndicate of oligarchs which operates as a single unit and directs US foreign and domestic policy.
Just a quick observation of the historical record: The USA has killed many people EVERY SINGLE DAY from August 6, 1945 until this day with plenty of momentum to carry on for decades.

Yeah, and also reaks of a backroom deal/collusion/planning among “moderate” Democratic candidates. If not overtly, then covertly. LIke, everyone knows the goal and the means to the end. However, I bet that funders of Klob and Butt have had plenty of conversations with Dem operatives and insiders to work out the strategy to sideline Sanders on Super Tuesday (call it 4S).
But, as Trailer Trash points out, the travesty that is this process—paid for by the public purse, no less, and monitored by goodhearted Americans such as members of the League of Women Voters—becomes more glaring by the day.

Maybe you’re not American, but in America – all the banks, sports venues and MIC are private sector. In other words, not owned or administered collectively or even by the government.
Therefore they’re not socialist under any of the 4 definitions you listed.
Instead, they’re paid for collectively. Taxation without representation. Socialism for the few. etc.

Oz’s SBS Dateline program broadcast an Iowa SNAFU redux last night. The stated objective of Dateline’s Iowa visit was to “Ask why this sleepy state is given so much political power, and whether it represents wider America?”
The Dems had better hope Iowa doesn’t ‘represent wider America’ because a majority of the ppl at the caucus whom Dateline queried about their voting intentions said they’ll vote for Trump “because he’s not a politician.”

I just voted in California, lots of “new tech”, with touchscreens. Quite buggy. Be sure to wash your hands too. /sarc
Took about an hour and a half starting at 10:00 AM to get in, about 10-15 to get through the voting process. Bazillions of people standing in line, half the voting booths empty. The big rollout. I predict a big mess tonight, lots of mistakes, lots of voters who give up and no “verified” results any time soon …
And all those touchscreens will be junk in five years. $$$

I’ve gotten now 2 text messages – unsolicited – from Bernie Sanders supporting saying I should go out and vote.
Given that they not only didn’t have my permission to contact me but that I’m not a registered Democrat (or Republican), but also referred to the wrong person (i.e. not me) in the header – this looks like cynical database use rather than anything else.
Especially since I’m not in the Bernie profile – if it is database use, it is incompetent database use.
And note I’ve had my phone number for literally 22 years, so it isn’t like this is a case of mistaken identity.

In my share of the planet there is virtually no messing with the enrolment, voting starts two weeks before the big day, lots of polling places all over the place, if I do go on the big day I maybe have to wait 15 minutes in a queue and process short and sweet.
All paper ballots, HAND COUNTED, know the results by midnight except for really close seats.

California: Sanders 35 vs. Biden 23, Warren 16, Bloomberg 15
Texas: Sanders 29.5 vs. Biden 28, Bloomberg 18, Warren 14.5
North Carolina: Biden 36.7 vs. Sanders 23.3, Bloomberg 14.3, Warren 10.7
Virginia: Biden 42 vs. Sanders 24.5, Warren 15, Bloomberg 14
Maine: Sanders 38.5 vs. Biden 24.5, Warren 18, Bloomberg 14
These 5 states represent 1035 of the total 1357 delegates for Super Tuesday, broken down as:
California: 416, 79
Texas: 228, 34
North Carolina: 110, 12
Virginia: 99, 25
Maine: 24, 8
The second number are the PLEO delegates – these are DNC operatives and Senate and/or House of Representative delegates. I don’t think they vote according to the representation, but I’ll leave them out.
If we take the poll results and multiply straight across to the first column delegate numbers above, here are the totals:
Sanders: 272
Biden: 248
Warren: 131
Bloomberg: 136
(with 158 PLEO not counted).
This hardly looks like a crushing Sanders victory.
The breakdown in Sanders/Biden/Warren/Bloomberg order:
California: 146/96/67/62
Texas: 67/64/33/41
North Carolina: 26/40/12/16
Virginia: 24/42/15/14
Maine: 9/6/4/3
The likelihood of a brokered convention from the above is 100%.
Even without a brokered convention – a Warren or Bloomberg throw-in with Biden means Biden likely out-delegates Sanders.
If the PLEOs go mostly Biden, that also means Biden wins.
A look at Bernie’s performance from these same primaries from 2016 (vs. 2020 in parentheses):
California: 221 (146)
Texas: 75 (67)
North Carolina: 47,2 (26)
Virginia: 33 (24)
Maine: 17,1 (9)
As you can see, if the RCP polls hold true, then Sanders will have done worse in every single one of these 5 states vs. 2016 in absolute delegate count.
The dilution of the field works.
I’ve noted this before – and unless Sanders blows out multiples of these races, the DNCC is going to have Biden as its candidate just as HRC was the DNCC candidate in 2016.

Lot’s of early voting here too, and lots of places to vote. That is not the problem. They are really trying hard to get people to accept the “new tech”. The problem IS the “new tech”. Thousands of hours are going to be wasted while people stand around hoping to vote. Some will give up, they have to work, they have to sleep. I sympathize but I don’t think this is very useful. Really what has happened is power has been consolidated in the hands of the few for a very long time. Biden seems to be doing better than expected, if these trends continue a brokered convention seems a certainly (where a dagger with Bernie’s name on it is waiting). Although I would prefer a showdown between Sanders and Trump, I would like to see Trump rip apart Joe “cognitive decline” Biden in a debate. Currently, all of the other Democratic candidates are restraining themselves in pointing out how incomprehensible Biden becomes when he talks, but Trump will NOT hold back he’ll rip him apart and then give him a new nickname, maybe “Slow Joe”, or “Brainless Joe” heck, I wouldn’t bet against Trump just calling out Biden on stage during the debates and say that he’s got Alzheimer’s and is mentally unfit for office.

Who ever does win the 2020 farce will be 100% free of influence interference by any Jo/Joe Voter, most amerikans appear to understand that fact, except for a minority made chiefly of wishful thinkers unable to accept no one in DC gives flying fuck about any of them apart from whether mug enough to be coerced into ‘donating’.
Whenever I end up at a political blog or website, there always appears to be more types whining for money for a candidate, than begging for a vote.
That is probably why they still bother with the primary farce it gives them an excuse to demand money with menaces (send $100 to Bloggs J. or else the other side will get more then you’ll lose your job/ get stuck in a war/not get stuck in a war etc.) Since whatever isn’t spent ends up in the candidate’s pocket, it is easy to see that a lot of the donations are never intended to be wasted on TV commercials no one wants to watch.

She may claim to be a leftie but Warren’s positions on the accommodation crisis are little different than D Trump’s except when she adopts a typical neolib position on banning shelter discrimination against transgender people. Warren backs that because it wouldn’t cost richfellas a cent but would make many homeless shelters buried under even more bureaucracy and possibly unworkable. Needless to say she is big on subsidising landlords to keep buying up residential homes & jacking up rents. She is opposed to federal rent controls, an essential since state governments have passed legislation prohibiting local government from introducing rent control.
Given that Warren is allegedly a senior member of the left faction of the dems, it shows that even if a genuine leftie did get the prez gig, it wouldn’t matter because he/she could never get anything useful for Jo/Joe Citizen through the legislature.
Yet still naifs imagine this nonsense is worth haranguing others over.

The Superdelegate vote is on the 2nd ballot at the Convention, but the 1st fix came in with James Clyburn’s endorsement and after S.C. with a bunch of other super-delegate endorsements. This skews and biases the electorate and creates a false impression of electability.

Joe Biden will drop like a lead balloon if he’s chosen to be the Nominee cause young people will run out the door from that moment on and there will be no energy or enthusiasm on his side even if Buttigieg or Stacey or Yang join his team. You can’t prop him up. It won’t work. It won’t feel authentic.
Trump will destroy him. The thought of 4 more years of Ziofascist Trump…there will be more deaths from opioids and suicides than at any other time in history.
Not to mention we’re headed for war and climate disaster.
Bernie just won Colorado. Bernie must trounce in California. If only Liz the snake weren’t on the ballot, he would. He’ll win California. Question is: by how much?

Warren is a Reagan Republican. She was a Republican until she was 47 years old, which means she lived through the Reagan years thinking ‘this is fine’. She only switched in the middle of the 1990s when the GOP had gone so far off the deep end that Clinton’s center-right New Democrats better represented her Reaganite views. She claims it was because of abuse by banks, which doesn’t make sense, since by that point it was the Democrats leading the charge on bank deregulation.
She isn’t a leftist, by any definition. She built a reputation because of the very narrow range of finance issues she’s actually good on (the CFPB is the cornerstone of her entire progressive reputation).
And in this election she hasn’t been a candidate of the left. She’s run on the veneer that she is, but like a snake she’s been shedding that pretense over time, backing away from any and every progressive policy position. Her base is white suburbanite professionals, especially women who want to see one of their own be president.
The Warren-Sanders divide perfectly illustrates everything Marx ever wrote about the dangers of Liberals. They aren’t the Left’s friend. When the revolution comes, they’ll be the first to be shot.
