i will tell a story to you MoA posters , once upon a time when the alliance saw Erdogan was planning to make peace with Russia and Syria , they launched a coup to kill him. Whole MSM spreading rumor of Erdogan fleeing to germany or seeking asylum in EU.. Then truth emerges revealing ergodan safe and still in power.
A poster in MoA lets call him J.R. continuiusly posting (as if his life depend on the number of his posts) that the whole coup was staged by erdogan. He did it repeatedly even into MoA articles NOT discussing turkey/erdogan. Constantly spreading the narrative of “erdogan did it to himself” routine for months..
and if you all MoA posters also notice , this J.R. also pretend to the the “resistance” but keep sliding in MSM narrative as if he is innocent bystander parroting and pretend to be clueless..
Experienced people should note that Theres many type of Astroturfing method , most of them use tag team style to bully people and critical posters , that dont work in MOA.. If astroturfer go straight posting narrative they will get made here in MoA. Remember the first MAX fiacso post on MoA ? suddenly theres unknown “im a pilot , boeing is best” fake pilots surge in comment section..
Back to J.R , he is in high probability a highly paid hasbara who tasked with MoA and push lies and narrative slow and in creative way to sway posters here.. Alas MOA posters are hard audience , a magiican pulling a RABBIT from his hat would be instantly laughed at by MOA Audience..

if sanders gets robbed again, and still insists on campaigning for whatever abomination the dem party spews forth,i will start thinking he’s a sheepdog. but until that happens, let’s just see how it plays out. the visceral loathing of establishment democrats toward sanders tells me he is not, they fucking hate him. see the woman who claims he makes her flesh crawl.
on another point, i don’t think it is politically possible to run as an independent, you can’t get on the ballot that late. it’s why independents almost never win high office, and only in state elections iirc. the game is rigged against them. ross perot came the closest, and he was a billionaire who could finance his own campaign. so that’s why sanders ran as a democrat.

I’m not sure if it just me, but I feel it a little uncool/unfair to be recommending other media sites here.
Seems a little like going to a restaurants’ website, and posting positive reviews for other restaurants.
One of the litmus tests that I employ is to check out the comments section. You get a good read of the landscape by doing so when you first encounter a new site. It is what encouraged me to keep coming back here.
Regarding ZeroHedge. The commentariat there are off the charts, but I know what I’m getting there. Some good stuff, a smattering of facts, and a lot of white noise and bullshit. Many other sites have a similar “spread”, but you can, on occasion, learn something from them anyways.

I spoke with M.D. a USAF Captain (reserve,medical) about this yesterday.
He, and I, both hold the same opinion. Some of the Imperial Storm Troops discovered what being in the cross-hairs of “rifle sights” is like, and then realized that they had developed a “brain injury”. Well, they did develop a brain injury. They decided that their brain didn’t like getting shot at by accurate fire, and that their injury could best be treated with a beer in Santa Monica.
Interesting the doc, who’d been in combat in the sandbox, had failed to spot the semantic trick about “no americans were…”, which of course avoids mention of any fodder units who were not citizens…of which there are many. I am afraid I popped that bubble for him, alas!

I know it’s real late in this thread. I will try to avoid just repeating stuff regarding my ‘ranked choice voting (RCV) is a fraud’ thing. It has become a huge project for me. There is a huge multimillion dollar campaign to get this voting method installed throughout the US, simultaneously. And it will be a disaster. I honestly stay up very late at night to develop a good strategy for derailing the whole thing, and will plant my scheme on my little blog as soon as I am sure it will work out with a good positive effect. This has been an astonishingly intricate intellectual project, even though the mechanisms of my latest ‘scheme’ will be amazingly simple.
The thing is: In a very short amount of time (a few months) this RCV campaign is going to come in like a gigantic tsunami, and everyone will be talking about it. So I am actually working very hard to get my ‘counterattack’ ready to go. Nobody else seems to be doing this at anywhere near the level at which I intend to try to do it. Wish me luck. You will be hearing a lot about this RCV business, regardless of what I do or do not do. I promise it will be fascinating. Please wish me luck.

By all mean though, people ought to vote, particularly in the small things, like who gets to be county judge or sheriff, and of course you yourself are liable to be called to jury duty if you vote. On a jury the vote count is honest, and it matters. They say 98% of prosecutions do not go to trial – and conviction at trial is punished severely to intimidate innocent and guilty as one stream of PU (prisoner units).
The natural result is that the few prosecutions that do go to trial are trying the probably honestly innocent whose moral outrage makes pleading guilty not an ethical option for them.
One vote can set them free…
Vote. They used to say “vote early, and often”, but of course that’s illegal so I can’t suggest it.

Just a Note
Although I recognize that Sanders has the best policies of the Democratic Party candidates, I myself will not be voting for a Democrat or Republican.
As I’ve explained via several comments on this thread (and in previous threads), I see the duopoly as deeply corrupt and believe that a true “populist outsider” will never emerge from that den of vipers.
It’s not just me: a number of others have written comments that agree with this POV.
IMO a vote for Greens or Private Party (a party that promotes direct democracy) is a valid protest vote.
Each of us has to make up their own minds. I know that few are as cynical as I am. So support whomever you please. When it all mysteriously falls apart, I’ll be ready with the “I told ya so” so you truly FEEL THE BERN. Maybe that will open a few eyes.

I’m so glad you asked. This question deserves a proper answer, but my brain isn’t working well today. This will have to be brief.
The currently dominant institutions are useless. They are controlled by the wealthy or have been co-opted by the need for a constant flow of grant money to pay salaries and keep the lights on. Various tiny sectarian leftist groups have zero appeal to typical US workers.
Workers need new mutual aid societies that I think of as “social unions” or perhaps “neighborhood unions”. These would be based on their neighbors rather than “labor unions” based on where people work.
The original Black Panthers started with a free breakfast program for all neighborhood kids and expanded from there to include education programs and medical clinics. That is the model I am thinking of.
The point is to build organizations by starting with small doable projects that build confidence and give newcomers an easy way to participate and work together. Participation and early achievement is vital. People want/need something to do, and they liked to be asked. I have been to so many public lectures where the event ended, everyone went home, and that was the end of it. That model will not take us very far.
Something around food is maybe a good place to start, considering how many US peons don’t have enough food. Preparing food and eating it brings people together, and everybody can immediately participate in cooking and/or cleanup.
On an individual basis, troublemakers have to get out there and talk to Joe and Jane Sixpack. I used to travel to various public events and set up a table of propaganda and buttons, etc. I always brought my large poster of the Pyramid of Capitalism. It really catches peoples attention. And they get it. Immediately.
Even in Uncle Sam Land, workers know intuitively that something is very wrong. Some are even open to the idea that maybe their problems are not all caused by immigrants, but by something else. It is up to class-conscious people to tell Joe and Jane what that something else might be.

No, I’m sorry; this is not true, except maybe for some very new voters. Class consciousness is alive and well in the US, and it has been since Obama shafted the populace in 2008. And probably since the beginning of this century did it start to stir. Or the end of the last one, take your pick. And it is now a very very large class that knows it is being shafted – maybe now 99.99 percent.
If Bernie can ride home on that, more power to him. He didn’t see it last time, but maybe now that teeny .01% are just scared enough to head for their bolt holes.

Agree. Unions began that way. All co-opted in material degree now, pity. But the eating together, as you suggest, works. It’s basic human politics. And good. Salvation Army worked it. It’s natural ritual…a sort of church (small c). A writing group works too, or a book-discussion group. My old Union always put on a big chow event either on the jobsite or at the union hall…alas, entirely under the nazi thumb nowadays…buncha rubes.
I would add> community gardens…extend the eating front and back to growing, working, eating, cleaning up, and so on – and thus create a polity and consensus over Time, next thing ya know you’ll get people elected, or diselected, and get infiltrated and suborned – so it’s not simple…. I think you miss the mark in some of your observations. You are seriously implying that FDR was not a great American president? Poor 1930s Japan was being starved for the oil that was being used by their war machine to slaughter Chinese civilians on an industrial scale? That’s got to be a joke in view of atrocities like the the Rape of Nanking. World War II was kicked off in Asia, and the Japanese did the dirty work early in the mass indiscriminate bombing of cities. As a boy I received one of the real shocks of my life when I was leafing through the Colliers Photographic History of World War II, as I saw images of those mountains of corpses on the streets of Nanking. Also when Roosevelt started out in office he declared that he welcomed the hatred of the elite. In the worst moments of the Depression children were dying of starvation; and doctors would sign their death certificates, marking their cause of death as “heart failure”. The wider history of the world might have turned out much worse if FDR had not become president.
There are no perfect US presidents, no saints,– not even Lincoln or Washington. And many of our recent Presidents, the last six especially have been real turds. But your black and white treatment above is not fair either. JFK actually mitigated the ambitions of insane generals who were serious about immediate nuclear war with the Soviet Union.

It is just my personal observation, but neighborhood and community organizations seem to be popping up and developing much more in the last decade or so than at any time that I can remember. These cannot compare in power with labor unions, of course, since unions always have the capitalists’ “family jewels” in their hands and can squeeze at will (this is an unavoidable side effect of how capitalists get their wealth), but consciousness can safely develop in the community before infiltrating the workplace.

USA grew just 2.1% in Q4 2019
Just remembering that the USA doesn’t have an annualized figures for quarterly GDP (as the rest of the world has), which makes them look higher than they really are. They kinda have a half-baked adjuster that is not the real thing, which they report many months later.
Even without considering this cooking, Q4 2019 was worse than Q4 2018 – which was worse than Q4 2017.

Of course, actual racists also lack class consciousness.
Is the suggestion that there are no members of the Team Blue fan club who think of the Team Red fans as “racist deplorables”? Is the suggestion that America doesn’t have actual racists? Because if these groups are present in the US population in significant numbers then the claim that “class consciousness is alive and well in the US” is not something that can be based upon empirical evidence.
Don’t mistake political “team spirit” for class consciousness. It’s not the same thing.

Sorry there isn’t much on my blog about that now. If it was simple to describe how disastrously bad RCV voting is, those (apparently) tens of thousands of ‘followers’ would not be promoting it. It is very difficult, however. Try thinking about it this way — The ‘operations’ we carry out in life have (at least) two kinds of complexity: ‘procedural’ complexity, but also ‘ramificational’ complexity. There is a certain amount of procedural complexity associated with learning arithmetical long division (by hand). However, once you master the long division algorithm, performing it does not get any more complex — the numbers change for each application, but the basic ramificational complexity remains the same. At the other extreme, the procedural complexity of learning the game of chess is not very high. However, each time you play a chess game you learn something new, since the ramificational complexity that eventually emerges is extremely high indeed.
And this is the problem with ranked choice voting — It’s not very hard to explain how it functions — but as time goes on and election cycles occur, it builds up an astonishing amount of ramificational complexity. And this is a trap. You go for a stroll in a pretty garden, and eventually find yourself lost in a deep dark forest. It looked wonderfull at first, but then you find yourself utterly lost.
After years of study I have come across an astonishing sort of ‘compass’, that will completely ‘short-circuit’ the complexity of the maze that RCV voting erects. It’s a real mind-blower. I wonder how the highly payed RCV promoters will react to this?
(Maybe this tiny essay I will paste in my little blog.) I will be arguing with mathematicians and political scientists (but will keep my side of it easy to read for plain folks). This could have the potential to become one hell of a ride.

Both are very intelligent yet have quite too high opinions of themselves and their own opinions as if they are somehow superiour. Which if they were they wouldn’t be stuck on a comment board only no matter how well regarded so many of their opinions.
Actually Gruff also agrees with me on Sanders too so I have no issues with his or Karlof1’s politics. Their egomania on the other hand? Should be checked at the door in service to a more vibrant, less repetitive comment board open to many other’s differing thoughts and ideas rather than merely more of the same ol.

The only difference between a Facebook user or not is a label on the record which includes the Facebook profile. Otherwise, this record might be blank or with some other identifier, but is still a collection of your behavior.
And there is a record.
Go to amiunique.org – this is a research effort which only looks at the data available on your browser to see if your profile is unique among the billion plus entities that have accessed the web site. If your profile is unique or rare, then your actual identity doesn’t really matter since any web site you visit will know it is “you” – the set of behaviors collected in a bucket associated with that unique profile.

The criticism of a 2 party system is that it devalues granularity in politics to 2 sides.
The criticism of RCV is that it makes the 2 centrist parties effectively the same party. That’s what’s happened in Europe, and why the far right parties have been raging their way up the political spectrum.
Yes, the Republican and Democrat parties are both subservient to the donor class – but they at least pretend to be different. In Europe, they don’t even bother.

Former US army guy, karlof1, didn’t like it when I said that soldiers were fooled into serving the Empire. He objects to such disrespect for US soldiers. We’ve had a couple of other disagreements as well.

Still, I really appreciate his many links and most of his comments.
I took issue with bevin’s permissive view toward relationships between 14-year old girls and much older men during discussions about Epstein. Jen also objected.
bevin POV caused him to have a few misconceptions about Epstein and write things that were factually wrong. I forcefully pointed out, in detail, how he was wrong about Epstein. As a result, he’s joined the “JR is a troll chorus”.
donkeytale is super smart and an excellent writer. I enjoy reading his comments. But I couldn’t stay silent about how Empire-friendly his POV is. donkeytale claims to be an avid socialist and hates all oligarchs. I have no reason to doubt that. And to a certain extent he has a point. But he doesn’t seem to care much that it’s the Empire and Empire oligarchs that seem much more toxic. The Empire seems dead-set on global domination.
milomilo @201 sometimes chimes in when “JR is troll” talk occurs. He doesn’t like my suspicious attitude toward Erdogan. And especially my suspicions about the apparent 2016 attempted coup that Erdogan termed a “gift from God”.

As our nation has a preferential voting system (or RCV), I would only like to add the following observation: That our system allows for quite a large amount of horse-trading for preference votes between the parties, and it is a cumbersome task for an average voter to keep track of all of the preference deals made in the shadows.
It seems to be improving slowly, but is still a great distance away from real democracy IMO.

Thanks. I have discovered myriad fantastic sources of information in the months I have been frequenting the bar.
Scrolling through the comments has lead me down educational alleyways I would have been highly unlikely to randomly encounter with my own meandering path through the inter-webs.
I tip my hat to the regulars here, and thank them for the education they provide. The original poster would be wise to follow many of the links in the articles that B posts and do likewise with the comments section.

Reminder that even if every country in the world was in favor it would remain the abomination it is.
That aside Jordan is not in favor to my knowledge, the EU isn’t in favor, The UN isn’t in favor, Russia isn’t in favor. Turkey as mentioned. Iran is also clearly against.
I can’t imagine Indonesia (biggest muslim population in the world) being in favor, neither Malaysia or Pakistan, and there’s already been demonstrations against it in India unless I’m badly mistaken.
Outside of the EU Switzerland is unlikely to be in favor but will keep neutral, Norway is clearly not in favor but might be trying to avoid attention, Iceland I don’t know but they’re super tiny.
I doubt those who were present at the presentation are actually in favor but that’s just me, either way their populations are unlikely to be in favor.
It’s the same as if someone came up to me with a gun and said the sky is a giant tuna. I would probably just smile, nod, keep quiet, and politely leave when they were done proselytizing 😀

Completely agree. I got blasted months ago by a long-time poster (call him hw) because the link I posed buggered up his device formatting or something. It was inadvertent on my part but that was of no interest: perfect solution for me, don’t post any more links, just describe them. To preface, I wish to thank you for your insights on the Middle East conflicts at MoA. What follows is a counter to your views of the protests in France.
Actually, I don’t read much of the Western mainstream press concerning the EU; however, I read the recent effusive economist article on how Jupiter (as Macron perceives himself) believes he is saving the world. Macron is nothing more than a puppet of the people who run the EU and is just following their dic(K)tats which apply to all EU countries ( see the Angola Variant).
Perhaps I do not understand what you meant by the phrase “outside the bourgeois representative system”.
First, the Gilets Jaunes (Yellow Vests) are not what you might consider bourgeois as they represent le peuple donc les vrais francais and are generally from la province et sa ruralite rather than the globalist Parisiens.
Second, I admit the so-called French representative system is rigged so that the establishment candidate always wins even though none of the above actually “won” the last French election. Marine Le Pen has already announced that she will run for President the next time (if there is one) which means that if Macron opposes here, he will be reelected. Eventually, Marion Marechal Le Pen-Auque will likely become President of France if you believe Attali.
Third, the EU is just a technocratic dictatorship run by and for an unelected elite with four unelected Presidents and one commissar. Even Junker the drunker admitted that there are no elections in the EU superstate. I do understand some of the technocratic background of the EU having been a Certified Lead Auditor for the International Standards Agency (ISO) in an earlier life.
Fourth, France would be better off without being run by a dictator (as Macron runs France by edict), or should I say Emperor, and wasting the French treasury on North African and Middle East military colonial wars. You would think that the French elite would have learned anything from the defeat at Dien Bien Phu which led to the captured Algerian Foreign Legionnaires being “reeducated” and sent back to lead the Algerian war against French occupation.
Fifth, the so-called reforms just result in a transfer of wealth to the Friends of Macron (FOM) in the banking and corporatist sectors. See Michael Hudson’s work for further elaboration on the end result of this globalist dream.
Sixth, your “Merovingian long hair” is meant as an insulting reference to France as a nation state, which is what I would expect from a EU globalist. I am surprised you didn’t reference Charles Martel who defeated the Muslim army at Poitiers in 732. Then again, his father was the Frankish statesman Pepin d’Herstal from what is now Belgium.

Here is what’s goin’ down — Uncivilized – That is war. At the moment I am a creature at war. That’s just how it is. People I love will likely be caught up in the collateral damage. Great regret.
Here is my strategy —
The Ranked Ballot is structured like this:
A > B > C > D > E > .. and so on.
Then they use the very chain-of-evidence violating process of eliminating the weakest candidate.
And then editing of all of the ballots that included that weakest one to shuffle up the ones behind him or her upward.
They repeat these ’rounds’ until some candidate attains 50% + 1 of the votes. And then that candidate wins. Sounds very innocent, doesn’t it? just like choose-one voting.
Except historically, the commonalty turns out to have no actual power (leverage). Why settle for 50% + 1? Why not just keep on repeating eliminating the weak until you have 2/3rds plus one? Why not continue until you have 100% unanimity?
The reason why this occurs is amazingly complex — yet it is very real. Oh, and ‘proportional representation’? That has proven to be useless too.
So. We can short-circuit this dismal process very easily. Just allow the voter to decide to have his-or-her ballot counted by a Ranked Sum Vote (RSV) — by just checking off a little box? RSV works like this:
The candidate chosen for the first rank-place gets 10 votes. The one chosen for the 2nd rank-place gets 9 votes. And so on. Any candidates at the 11th rank-place or lower get no votes at all. So very simple. Then you just add up all the votes, and the candidate with the most votes wins. (This is a very simple form of ‘positional voting’, not to be confused with ‘Borda voting’.)
So then. All the voters who marked their ballots to be tabulated by way of the RCV method are (very eventually) given their winner. And then all of the RCV ballots are then checked to see if they granted any rank-places to the IRV winner, and that number of votes is multiplied by 10, and then added to the number of votes from people who decided to use the very simple positional voting method. Then the candidate with the most accumulated votes wind.
Eventually every voter will chose to vote via the positional method, and the IRV method will simply disappear.

I’ve run into 1619 a few times in my wandering, but not really interested, and I don’t get the impression a lot of other people are interested either, but then to be fair I have not paid attention to it, so my opinion isn’t worth much.
The idea I support, I would give a lot more support to our “First Nations”, like what they ask for, not what we want to give them, they have a lot to teach if we were willing to listen, a lot to contribute.

Anthropologists and sociologists and boffins aligned with such matters ask, sometimes, why people get old, and what is the advantage, if any, to an Nth group to having old people, more females than males, but representative nevertheless.
I can tell stories I heard from people who were married with children when the Wright’s were building kites. From men who were in Cuba during the War with Spain. Who did field amputations in the trenches in W1. About old New York. About slavery, and the Civil War and being a POW in Libby prison. And about running a stage on the Ohio River to smuggle escaped slaves. About buying their freedom for them.
So can, similarly, most old people. We are the historians the the ones who pass wisdom, morality, judgement to the grand and great grand children we care for.

Sasha might be thinking of me. I used to be alt-right in the original sense before I saw what the US did with the term during their final election, bending it over backwards and breaking it.
Originally (in Europe) alt-right appeared due to the dissatisfaction of non-socialists like me with the political parties on the right on many different issues and a drive against dogmatic or ideological stances and appreciation for some of the left including some of the radical left on some issues but at the same time continued distance from their dogmas and ideologies.
For me the partial destruction of the alt-right in Europe (and the complete destruction in the US) was the final lesson needed about how all ideology is an invitation to corruption.
Now alt-right is in general nothing much except a quite tepid derogatory term (after all anyone “alt-right” was very used to decades of being called racist, fascist, nazi, and so on) available for perhaps simpler people with no interest in understanding it or what happened but at least it continues to waste a little bit more US resources and attention, this time from the right; because we’re still around, still in opposition, and still a potential worry or mystery they struggle to understand (at least that’s what my own experiences tell me when I for example manage to freak out the guards simply by walking past their embassy, a story I’ll skip but which ties into their surveillance set-up “around here”).

Political discourse would be so much simpler if that were true, and perhaps you are attracted to that simplicity, but I do not see it as being realistic. I’ve known many Japanese, Germans, and Italians; people from cultures that chose to support fascism. Oddly, I’ve never met a single evil person from any of those countries, and the very dumbest have certainly not been exceptional in that characteristic. On the contrary, people from those places have impressed me with their decency, humanity, and intelligence.
So what happened to all of the ones who backed fascism? Did all of the stupid and evil ones die? More importantly, America is right now going fascist just like those countries did. While I often rail about Americans being willfully ignorant and increasingly intellectually, emotionally, and morally enfeebled, we should consider if that is just the nature of Americans or if there is a process that we can understand taking place that is causing it.
To start to understand this change one needs to accept that there are elements of truth within the beliefs of the far right. They are not 100% wrong. There really are a disproportionate number of Jews among the empire’s oligarchs. There really is a serious problem with violence in America’s Black population. Large scale immigration really does exert downward pressure on wages. Issues like these and more that the right is concerned with are painfully evident to anyone not carefully cultivating denial. Crucially, it is the denial on the part of the faux left of these issues that allows capitalist narrative spinners to leverage them to keep the population divided, and as the economy moves into crisis this division will manifest as fascism.
In a very real sense it is the failure of the left to address these issues from within the context of class struggle that alienates large segments of the population and drives them towards fascism. How does this work? Let me provide an example:
When I last returned to America from abroad I chose to live in the depths of Redneckistan where I hoped as a teacher to help steer disadvantaged kids towards rewarding lives. The futility and naivete of that choice is the subject for another post. In this post I would like to note that the ethnically mixed city I live in currently experiences roughly one home invader being shot to death by the homeowner every other month. In the overwhelming number of cases the homeowner is ethnically white (whatever that means) or of Latin American heritage, and the home invader is Black. Occasionally the home invader gets a shot off before the homeowner and the homeowner is killed, but more often it is the invader who dies since the homeowner has the advantage of being familiar with the layout of his or her own home.
The faux left, from their gated communities, argue that this trend is a clear indication of racism and that the solution is to disarm the homeowners. The people who have to live with the terrifying potential of waking up to some asshole breaking into their homes on any given night cannot afford to foster such a delusion. By not only denying the concerns of these homeowners but also vilifying them for defending themselves and their homes, the faux left (Democrats and Social Democrats) drives them away and towards the right.
The real left acknowledges that these working class homeowners have a legitimate concern, and that they have the right to self defense. Instead of trying to convince them that their concern isn’t real and is just an indication that they are evil racists like the faux left does, the real left will explain to the concerned working class homeowners that the criminals’ behavior is the result of them being declassed, that is workers who have fallen out of the working class due to lack of opportunity for productive engagement with the economy and who have thus become lumpenproletariat. With this understanding the concerned homeowners can then be convinced that the solution is not to round up the threatening individuals into camps, but to work towards reorganizing society in a way that these individuals have a productive alternative to crime.
Lacking that explanation and a realistic plan to address the problem from a class perspective, these concerned homeowners will naturally align behind the next best suggestion, which is to aggressively collect and detain these declassed individuals away from their neighborhoods. The delusions of the faux left are thus directly responsible for the rise of the far right.
The key point raised above by Krollchem @262 and Hausmeister @263 (bolded simply so that the posters can see at a glance that I am referring to them and not for some other nefarious purpose) does not conflict with Marxist analysis. It is merely a way to describe what Marx referred to as “alienation”. I assume the real left will know what that means and be able to figure out the connection. Perhaps the two really are jackbooted Nazis, but in this instance they are absolutely correct.

It is good to be able to share here at the bar. The bursts of outrage tempered with humor sometimes. Lost amidst Alt-Right or Alt-Reich, faux populists and NPR Liberals,— we are slipping and stumbling as we move along in the American Zone. The day of reckoning or the moment of catharsis. It’s hard to know what lies ahead.
There are still brilliant offerings by the better people in this country. I’d like to recommend a new book to the barflies–the latest by CAROLYN FORCHÉ, one of our best poets– a memoir of some months she spent in El Salvador during the bad days, it seems long ago, when the war was about to turn nasty down there:
