Moon of Alabama Brecht quote

Please Support Moon of Alabama

Dear reader, your support is essential to keep this site going.

Moon of Alabama provides news and analysis which other media cover late or not at all. It offers original thought and no-nonsense writing on a nearly daily basis. This site is free of charge and of distracting advertisements. The comments are open and lively. It is the effort of a single person.

While your host lives in slightly better circumstances than Spitzweg's Poor Poet, he is neither rich nor does he indulge in luxuries.

Your continued interest and your feed back keep me going. But I also need to eat and pay rent. There is no other income I can rely on. Thus every donation to this Poor Poet, be it $5, $50 or $500, is welcome and needed. A recurring contribution or sponsorship would be great.

Transaction costs are smallest when you send cash or a check. You can also use a simple bank-wire transfer. Send email to MoonofA @ aol.com for the necessary details. (They are the same as before.) You can use a credit card or other means when you donate through the PayPal button below.

Thanks you very much!

Bernhard aka b.

@3 Willy2

Patreon is well known to kick off people who have views that differ from the current Overton Window being pushed by TPTB, SubscribeStar is a free speech alternative.

Can we get a snail mail address?

Posted by: JC | Dec 9 2019 17:17 utc | 12

@4 TJ

While it is concerning when neolibs are handing out bans for political views, as far as I know everyone Patreon has got so far has been an alt-right ahole or producing NSFW content. Not sure there's any precedent for them banning people in the lefty anti-imperialist journal sphere. Many leftist podcasts successfully fund there content via Patreon. Subscribe star seems good, but I hear there having problems with PayPal after right wingers flocked to it once they were banned from Patreon. Not sure a platform that is mostly pornography and right wing "intellectuals" would be a right fit for b anyways.

Also, as others have asked, is there a postal address I can mail cash too?

Posted by: lietzu | Dec 9 2019 17:54 utc | 13

@ JC and lietzu asking for snail mail address for b

I would suggest you email him at [email protected]

It has been my experience that he does not put his postal address online for some reason but gladly provides it via email

and lietzu, I would not send actual cash but you know that right?

Posted by: psychohistorian | Dec 9 2019 18:04 utc | 14

Thank you for all your hard work, b! Small contribution sent.

Posted by: Norwegian | Dec 9 2019 18:14 utc | 15

I will book mark this page for future donation as well.

Hope the page will still be here next year?

Just sent €50 to The Squirrel Sanctuary. Please do not forget the little critters. They need more nuts to survive the winter. MoA depends on them!

Posted by: Joost | Dec 9 2019 18:39 utc | 17

@13 lietzu

Alt-right seems to be something of a go to slur these days for anyone who does not agree with the current status quo, even for people who when they take a political compass test end up on the left such as with Carl Benjamin. His case is interesting in that he did not violate the Patreon ToS, anyone who cannot observe their own contractual obligations is not someone I would ever engage with and would not recommend anyone I liked to engage with either, it would only be a recommendation for an enemy. As for SubscribeStar, yes, they like Wikileaks were targeted by PayPal and their payment processor, they have now got a new payment processor and are growing, while Patreon is losing people over their inability to observe a contract.

It's been a monthly, by snail mail, thanks for the therapy b.......

Thanks b, you do such a great job, donation made as usual. All the best

"While your host lives in slightly better circumstances " <-- is it correct to assume that b has a raincoat in addition to an umbrella? Anyway, I am sending an amount equal to what I have spent on a new sweater: wool as a greener type of energy! You can set the heat lower...

Someone should teach squirrels how to access comment sections. Mountains of nuts there.

done!

For the massive amount of work you place into the site, the great posters with divergent views, and my belief that the articles and posts are read by various bureaucrats of various countries I am sending a donation.

In addition, your are fairly evenhanded with you writings and that is something few and far between in today's world.

Posted by: dltravers | Dec 10 2019 0:41 utc | 24

Do you have a bitcoin wallet address.....

Posted by: Bojan | Dec 10 2019 3:31 utc | 25

Hey b,

It's great you've been at this for so many years!

I want to back up the Patreon suggestion. It's pretty convenient for people who aren't in the US, and already use the platform to fund other shows. There is only a charge to your credit card/associated forex fees a month.

Posted by: masoud | Dec 10 2019 4:20 utc | 26

Sent you a request for a snail mail address.
Happy to help keep the lights on.

@all - Thank you very much.

I have no ability to use bitcoin, revolut, Patreon, transferwise.

If Paypal does not work for you please send something by snailmail, or by direct bank transfer which also works with Western Union.

You can request my snail-mail address and bank transfer data vie email to MoonofA @ aol.com (delete the spaces).

Thank you for all you do B.

Bernhard, as far as I know, people in Britain & USA (at least) could send you Euros into your German bank account:

https://transferwise.com/gb/send-money/
&
https://transferwise.com/us/send-money/

I've used it many times to send money to someone's smartphone, yet should be able to get into your bank account too. Read the above pages and/or email them to make sure.

Patreon has 10% cut on top of currency charges, so it is not the best.

The first thing I do when I log in, is visit MoA :-))

This site is probably one of the best, it's an eye opener, literally and figuratively :-))

Thank you for excellent analysis over the year.

Posted by: Rm | Dec 12 2019 18:13 utc | 40

@all - thank you very much!

@Dr Wellington Yueh

your "Serena Shim Award" image at top left has been broken for a while.

It works for me on several devices. Is there anyone else who has that problem?

Posted by: b | Dec 12 2019 20:40 utc | 41

@ Posted by: b | Dec 12 2019 20:40 utc | 41 who asked about the "Serena Shim Award" image at top left

What I noticed after I read that from Dr Wellington Yueh, and I also saw it gone, was that it reappeared when your "How the Moon of Alabama..." posting became available....and given that timing, as I recall, I suspect you had set it to happen/post when you were in sleep mode.

Posted by: psychohistorian | Dec 12 2019 20:51 utc | 42

Thanks for all You do *b*.
I just sent a donation to You which You will receive tomorrow.
I hope it helps.

Best Regards from Sweden, X-
ps. It's not much but, I just got my 19 year old car repaired and, well, it cost more than what it's market-value is.
If I was rich, I'd send more. :)

I must say that this could be the unique site where one can post a leftist point of view or links to leftist webs/blogs/comments...what makes it a rare gem...

May be that shooes away some but, for sure, attract others who have no voice in the net...unless they could start they own blogs...something quite difficult to do for leftist people, ususally working class people lacking the time and extra energy to keep it running because of labor matters...
Not to mention the harsh and dirty war on the left in social networks like Twitter...

I myself have seen with sadness how a bunch of high quality blogs and sites with well researched works have been going frozen....along with several unpayable Twitter accounts suspended....

That there is a coordianted effort and all out war by corporate media on the left, in face of resurging leftist ideas/ movements is clear, as the last shameful smearing campaign on Corbyn has clearly demonstrated.

Thanks for your hard work, b, although I do not always agree with your point. It is great you allow such discrepancy...

Is it possible to donate electronically without being forced to set up account with Paypal?

Posted by: Stephen Morrell | Dec 12 2019 22:19 utc | 45

@ 41 b - "Serena Shim Award" image at top left - it is just showing up as a small icon that most would not click on to see what it was.. i am using firefox...

@ 45 stephen... you can donate at paypal without setting up an account.. just submit as guest...

Thanks James, will do.

Posted by: Stephen Morrell | Dec 13 2019 10:29 utc | 48

When I started vising this site and came to appreciate it I looked all round here to find how to make a donation. So, mystery solved, and I will visit your e-mail to get a snail mail address and send a $35 check. I believe this site is important because of b and all the informative and diverse forum participants.

Thanks again b, and be well.

Posted by: vinnieoh | Dec 13 2019 14:42 utc | 49

I'm always happy to donate, but when I click on the 'donate' button above I get an error message from PayPal at this address: https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr

b, I know your email address so can send money that way but checking out any shenanigans PayPal is up to may be worthwhile.

Posted by: worldblee | Dec 15 2019 18:06 utc | 50

I strongly believe that merchandise is the best way to create the bond between a website and its readers. Granted, MoonOfAlabama has worldwide audience and shipping cost may be prohibitive. Perhaps a good way would be a jpg of an image selected by b with his signature and, in the case of larger donations, a personalized hand-written message.

In that spirit, a more contemporary and fully realistic image of an old poet who lives well below luxury level

Thanks for the postings and good worldwide community bar

Posted by: psychohistorian | Dec 15 2019 21:04 utc | 52

b, if you can confirm here that the address is the same as last time I will send it this week. Otherwise it'll be in January when I'll have access to my work email.

Thank-you for all your outstanding work.
