Thanks for the reminder about Bob Lafollette's progressive stances and his run for President.

If Circe wants some new anti-Trump material with an amusing spin, she could do worse than dip into Michael Wolff's Fire and Fury. I'm 60 pages in and there's a laugh on EVERY page.
While we're waiting, it'd be nice to hear from one armchair Trump critic with a better drain The Swamp plan (with a beginning, a middle and an end) than Trump's.
I'm not holding my breath.

Easy! Fire everyone in the executive branch then hire new people--including most of the top military brass. Congress wouldn't be able to lift a finger, nor would anyone else.

We are, where we are only becouse there are no simple / social constraints imposed on our leaders !
Far from living in a democracy. We are living in anarchy !
Law and order are needed. Even if we have to impose it from the street up.

Trump's plan was never to "drain the swamp" but simply redirect the swamp more in his direction to his own liking.
If you sincerely believe otherwise than I have a bridge over Trump's swamp to sell you...

Thanks for the pointer. I'll put it on the list as well for my next Discovery Books order, but I am already fairly well versed on the impact of the Americas on Eurasian life.
The potato, for example. Corn, chocolate, syphilis, beans, peanuts, red peppers - there are many staple species that are direct results of Columbus' discovery.
As for disease and what not - somewhat true, although it really doesn't matter if the owners die and the slaves survive... also, economically the number of people who owned more than 5 slaves was very much a 0.1% phenomenon. Slavery was thus more of an aspirational thing than an actual economic "win". Again, it was only with the early Industrial Revolution plus the cotton gin that turned slavery into the Internet Bubble 1.0 of that era - only with actual profit.

I trust you will not be disappointed in those commendations; books have a greater tendency for trustworthiness than other forms of information transfer, their editing is primarily for form and precision of language over editing for content that no other medium can match. Drawback may lay in time and effort expended to read the material as well as the acuity of the reader's experience.
Experience leads me to seriously distrust all visual media; TV, Motion Pictures, Youtube and even recorded lectures on all subjects due to the production and editing processes primarily but just as bothering is the speed and lack of time to find hidden implications of what is being presented and the transitory attention allowed to focus on complex subjects needing time and space to be more fully understood. Even here, I rarely avail of proffered links, even written ones when I am unfamiliar with the source. All too often the commentator is without the ability and skill to state their thoughts in their own words, an aptitude badly needed.
Thanks for your reply.

Yes, it was almost a century ago, but you allude to the fundamental reason he was known as Fighting Bob Lafollette, the indefatigable Progressive Republican Senator from Wisconsin during the era when Milwaukee and numerous other cities in the region had Socialist mayors and majority city councils--important history that's been painstakingly airbrushed from US History.
