Moon of Alabama Brecht quote
August 17, 2018
John Brennan Is No Match For Trump

U.S President Trump revoked the security clearance of former CIA Director John Brennan.

Good. It is probably the best thing Trump has ever done. Brennan is one of the most despicable former U.S. officials alive. He should rot in hell instead of making money off his former status.

Besides that there is no sound reason why anyone who does not work for the government, directly or indirectly, should have a clearance and thereby access to state secrets. ACLU and others are wrong in this. Revoking or keeping a security clearance has nothing to do with free speech or first amendment rights.

Abu Jihad Brennan was the CIA’s station chief in Saudi Arabia. Some assert he went native, i.e. converted to Wahhabism. Brennan was in Riyadh when the Khobar Towers were bombed. Al-Qaeda did it, but Brennan was helpful in blaming the attack on Hizbullah and Iran. He was deputy executive director of the CIA on 9/11. That 9/11 happened was an intelligence failure or, as some have it, an incident arranged by the deep state. Brennan was CIA chief of staff while the agency concocted false stories about Iraqi WMD. He was within the line of command that ran the CIA torture program. It was Brennan who conspired with the Gulf dictators to hire Jihadis to destroy Libya and to attempt the same in Syria. In short – the man was always ruthless, incompetent and dishonest.

When Obama became president he wanted to make Brennan Director of the CIA. The Democrats in Congress were opposed to that. Obama then made him his high priest of targeted killings. After Obama’s reelection, Brennan finally became director. He ordered the CIA to spy on the Congress committee investigating CIA torture. He lied to Congress under oath when he denied that it had happened. When it was proven that the CIA did what it did, he had to apologize.

At that time a Washington Post editorial headlined Obama should fire John Brennan. Today the Post calls the revocation of a security clearance of a former official, who -it had opined- should have long been fired, a “political vendetta against a career intelligence officer”. Hypocrites.

Most important was “Brennan’s ringleader role in the so-far unsuccessful attempts to derail Trump, both before and after the 2016 election. As far as we can tell it was Brennan who concocted and launched the conspiracy to insinuate that Trump is connected with alleged Russian influence. Brennan bet that Hillary Clinton would win the election. He lost his bet and is now out in the cold. He fears that his role, especially his conspiring with British security services and with the Steele dossier, will come to light.

Since Trump became president Brennan publicly opposed him. That was a huge mistake. He is no match for Trump. By revoking Brennan’s clearance Trump is now elevating him to ‘hero’ of the so called ‘resistance’ against him which he connects to the deep state. This is the Trump playbook:

[R]unning against the deep state provides Trump a rhetorical crutch. It’s a built-in excuse for failing to deliver on his 2016 campaign promises. Sitting presidents usually have to run as incumbents. Trump can try to run for re-election as an outsider. And is there a better poster boy for the alleged deep state than Brennan?

The idiots who express solidarity with Brennan by offering up their security clearances confirm, simply by doing so, that there IS a deep state cabal that is opposed to Trump. Attacking Brennan and them will help Trump to get reelected.

Trump uses the same playbook when he attacks the “fake news media” for opposing him. He is right in that nearly all U.S. and international editors favored Hillary Clinton over Trump. This week 200 U.S. papers united to write editorials against Trump’s attacks against the “freedom of the press”. They fell for his trick:

Most journalists agree that there’s a great need for Trump rebuttals. I’ve written my share. But this [Boston] Globe-sponsored coordinated editorial response is sure to backfire: It will provide Trump with circumstantial evidence of the existence of a national press cabal that has been convened solely to oppose him. When the editorials roll off the press on Thursday, all singing from the same script, Trump will reap enough fresh material to whale on the media for at least a month. His forthcoming speeches almost write themselves: By colluding against me, the fake media proved once and for all, that they are in cahoots with the Democrats and have declared themselves to be my true political opposition

Trump is excellent in playing his domestic opponents. Brennan made a huge mistake in publicly opposing him. He is now standing in the limelight and people will only dig further into his role in the “Russian collusion” campaign. Yesterday Brennan authored a New York Times Op Ed headlined President Trump’s Claims of No Collusion Are Hogwash. It does not provide any evidence for the “hogwash” claim. Brennan can not show that there was a Trump campaign collusion with Russia or anyone else.

Richard Burr, Chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee, gave a somewhat salty and fitting response:

“Director Brennan’s recent statements purport to know as fact that the Trump campaign colluded with a foreign power. If Director Brennan’s statement is based on intelligence he received while still leading the CIA, why didn’t he include it in the Intelligence Community Assessment released in 2017? If his statement is based on intelligence he has seen since leaving office, it constitutes an intelligence breach. If he has some other personal knowledge of or evidence of collusion, it should be disclosed to the Special Counsel, not The New York Times.

“If, however, Director Brennan’s statement is purely political and based on conjecture, the president has full authority to revoke his security clearance as head of the Executive Branch.”

In short: “Nut up or shut up.”

It is doubtful that Trump will let go of the issue. Brennan is a too juicy target to stop shooting at it. Currently Brennan is still too valuable as an enemy for Trump to destroy him. But once that is over Brennan’s day of judgment will come. Here are high hopes that Brennan will finally have to pay for at least one of his many crimes.

Comments

Reading through the comments I find it more than a little strange that smart people STILL fall into the trap of party and personality.
If a real populist can’t be elected in USA. If Trump and Obama were establishment stooges. Then party and personality are masks and Presidential elections are merely a changing of the guard for a deep state that serves the establishment.

I understand your point of view. Indeed, the distinction between “deep state” and “elite factions” is more academic than anything else.
The term “deep state” makes sense if you believe/consider the USA a true representative democracy. In this case, Brennan is from the deep state in the sense that, the mere status as an “ex-[some high office of the federal government]” gives you a de facto and, many times, de jure lifetime access to the government, trespassing the democratic process, therefore developing into a de facto cubicularius. The deep state would be, in this case, an unofficial court of a fake democracy (i.e. a principate). It is a known fact people related to the military are subject to a more lenient interpretation of the Law than the normal civilians, something that is not new: it happened in the Roman Empire when at the eve and beyond the Third Century Crisis.
But the deep state is a useless definition if you already considers the USA an undemocratic oligarchy. In this case, what is happening right now in the USA is, indeed, many factions of the bourgeoisie openly disputing political power in the central (federal) government. Trump, representing the anti-Chinese faction (the “manufacturers”) is simply clashing with the Democratic Party + CIA, which represents the anti-Russian faction (the financial-industrial-military-pharmaceutical sector, “Wall Street”).

@mark2. Did you even read the Kunstler piece linked to? I thought it was brilliant the way he used Biology terminology to say pretty much what YOU say here every thread. Kunstler did it in a much more thoughtful, meaningful and erudite fashion than you could ever even dream of, mind you. Anti-Chinese vs anti-Russian factions?
IMO there are no such ‘factions’. IMO a ‘faction’ would be an organized group with an ideological agenda.
There may be some business or personal interests that seek good relations with Russia or China, but they don’t rise to the level of a ‘faction’.
<> <> <> <> <> <>
IMO the Deep State and the elite establishment it serves is remarkably united. They are also very practical so relations with all but core allies are fluid.

Yes I did read his piece, very very carefully, I do, and so we all should in this world of smoke and mirrors that, we live in ! You must agree false profits abound . Most of them are on the make or want ther momment before the camera ! I thank you very much for your interest.
In reply, firstly I noticed he appeared to be jumping on the trump bandwagon . Blame shifting on to the most vunrable in the comunity! A very lazy and cowardly way of venting anger and frustration (kicking the cat ) guaranteed to achieve nothing and likely to annoy the cat!
Secondly in these serious times we live in— he offered not a single salution to the real problems the USA and the rest of the world are facing .
In urgent times as these we need to prioritise and focus
Plus there was mistaken self interested agenda. All Ways get’s my back up that one! It’s not about us it’s about the world!
But thanks warm regards !!!

The democrats and republican parties are just to heads of the same bird of prey.
We are living in a Wizard of OZ world where the masses do not see, and do not wish to see, those who are in really in control.
“Both Obama and Trump have been aiming to extend America’s aristocracy’s dominance around the world, but they employ different strategies toward that politically bipartisan American-aristocratic objective: the US Government’s global control, for the benefit of the US aristocracy, at everyone else’s expense. Obama and Trump were placed into the White House by different groups of US billionaires, and each nominee serves his/her respective sponsors, no public anywhere — not even their voters’ welfare.”
https://www.globalresearch.ca/why-trump-cancelled-the-iran-deal/5650309
Mass media are there to ensure that the masses stay in the dark.
“The final goal of media is to create a following of docile, unquestioning consumers. To that end, (the) three primary tools have historically been employed (are) deceit, dissimulation (and) distraction. Over time, the sophistication of these tools of propaganda has evolved to a very structured science, taking its cues in an unbroken line from principles laid down by the Father of Spin himself, Edward L Bernays.”
http://axisoflogic.com/artman/publish/Article_80819.shtml
The control is so powerful that the masses would kill those who attempt break their chains and bring them out of the shadows as described in Plato’s Allegory of the Cave.
“SOCRATES: And if they can get hold of this person who takes it in hand to free them from their chains and to lead them up, and if they could kill him, will they not actually kill him?
GLAUCON: They certainly will.”

The objective has become transparent over the past year, with rising calls to punish white people for the supposed “privilege” of being Caucasian and pay “reparations” in one way or another to underprivileged “people of color.””
He has a point. Democrats are working hard to make identity and race into major vote getters. Of course just raising the topic is enough to get condemned as a racist.

Its funny but the word Deep State was not in the most peoples vocabulary until the Deep States Gatekeeper (NYT) came out with an article in 2016 in reference to Turkeys Deep State (which was coined in 1996 ) and the Trump/Sanders campaign
“‘In contrast to Turkey, where Mr. Giraldi said a covert “deep state” had taken root in the security realm, the American deep state of his description consists of visible people like the Clintons and the former C.I.A. director David H. Petraeus, concentrated around New York and Washington, who live at the fertile nexus of government and corporate power: Capitol Hill aides and legislators who cash in as lobbyists; former politicians who earn millions speaking to banks, or landing sinecures with them; technocrats who ricochet between Goldman Sachs and the Treasury Department; billionaire kingmakers dangling political donations; thinkers whose tanks are financed by corporations with a financial stake in their research.’”
According to Peter Dale Scott On the Turkey “Deep State ” definition he refers to it as “a parallel secret government, organized by the intelligence and security apparatus, financed by drugs, and engaging in illicit violence, to protect the status and interests of the military against threats from intellectuals, religious groups, and occasionally the constitutional government.”
He had long used the term Deep Politics to describe Americas Deep State but says the main difference with the Turkey definition is “America is less a parallel structure than a wide zone or milieu of interaction between the public state and unseen dark forces”
I think we must also consider there is a global Deep State not constrained by nationalism led by multinationals, global security and military forces, international crime syndicates and their partners in international finance, along with the various international organizations and secret groups
Within the Deep State there must be factions. Perhaps as basic as the Mensheviks and Bolsheviks during the Russian Revolution. It appears to me the Anglo-American-Israeli neocon/Koch Bros /Kissinger faction are the Bolsheviks while the Greenpeace/Soros-Rockefeller-Zbig faction were the Mensheviks and have lost power in the 21st century, after the election was stolen in the US in 2000. To be sure there are differences within each faction and they all agree with neoliberal policies and global governance that serve the elite at the expense of lower classes.
What this means if unchanged is simply a darker future and a further descent on Jacobs Ladder, and of course change by brute force with no pretence of doing Good or caring about human rights
Some of the events may be fighting among the factions, others are simply scripted. Hard to know anymore. Its Evil vs Lesser Evil, so not much to root for either way.

One aspect should not be forgotten. The Syrian refugees are not very popular in Turkey, especially not within the circles that support Erdogan/MHP. Only strong control about the media can prevent a public debate about this topic. There have been clashes as well. Like in Germany, where workers lost their jobs because of cheaper Eastern European competitors, but some of them start to build up a hate against Muslims for belng alien to the “German Leitkultur”.
Second problem is the fact that he has wasted enormous ressources into the trial to enlarge the country on the expense of Syria. It was ok for the Islamist (Muslim Brotherhood part, no matter that they supported terrorists) and the nationalistic part. But now it failed and there must be somebody responsible. Again controlling the media helps. To support people that behead children is no problem; to question the opera buffa (Alien enemies fight against Turkey using the Lira) in social media is a crime. Where is @ConfusedPundit when he is needed?

People do not like to have their beliefs challenged. For the typical republican or democrat, Trump challenges those beliefs by being Trump. How can some guy who had never worked a day in his life for the government be allowed to run our country, he’s obviously not capable, he must be an idiot, blah blah blah blah blah.
For people who are anti-Government and have a conspiratorial mindset Trump’s win isn’t seen as proof that voting is still legit or at least in some instances valid. Instead it’s seen as proof that Trump is just another puppet, controlled opposition or whatever. Do they believe this is true because they have proof? Nope, of course not, they say it because if Trump is against the deep state and did win then it means the deep state isn’t all powerful, which directly contradicts everything the conspiracy minded anti-government people believe wholeheartedly. So if Trump is an independent guy taking on the deep state then these people have been wrong and the deep state isn’t all powerful. So obviously these same people will find all kinds of fanciful reasons for saying Trump is no different than Hillary or Obama or Bush. Now I’m not saying that Trump isn’t controlled opposition, that is certainly possible with anyone, but since there is zero hard evidence that this is true and the circumstantial evidence is extremely weak and contradictory I’d suggest that Trump’s win was not supported by the deep state and that they continue oppose him to this day.
That does not mean that I think Trump will win this battle with the deep state or even that he’s at battle with most of their agenda, just that I don’t see any evidence that this fight is not real. I honestly believe that if they could get rid of Trump tomorrow without it causing a civil war they would and some might very well be willing to chance that too. I base that on the fact that they are trying to get rid of him and that the attempts to get rid of him are very well documented and that those attempts started before the election and continue to this day. Now as I said, it could be all just a big con game and Trump’s in on it with the deep state. But is that likely considering the evidence at hand? Well let’s say that only someone really invested in believing that the deep state is all powerful would interpret it this way, it’s takes a whole lot of manipulation of fact to come to that conclusion. Furthermore, they interpret facts in such a way as to make it impossible to prove that any president isn’t a deep state actor. Think about it, part of the proof that Trump is rotten is that he’s being resisted by the deep state!! What would he have to do to prove he isn’t a deep state puppet? I would suggest that for some people there is nothing he could possibly do because they don’t really want Trump to be anything but another puppet, they are far too invested in their own personal philosophy of hating the government for anything to be seen as proof that they are wrong.
It’s all one big conspiracy to make Trump look like an outsider, sure it is. And who exactly goes to this length to elect someone like Trump while at the same time making him look like a complete idiot all the time? Who is it that pulls off this amazing conspiracy to place a guy like Trump in office and then works at the same time to portray him in the absolute worst light possible day in and day out? Why would they do that when they can have people like Obama, Bush or Clinton anytime they want? It’s not like the American people were going to rise up and overthrow the government if we continued to have presidents like we are already used to. The status quo would not have suddenly come under attack and collapsed if things had continued the way they were. And any group powerful enough to put a guy like Trump in place could put ANYONE in place so why pick a guy like Trump who isn’t easy to control, who makes government look bad, who makes them look bad, etc. etc, etc. In other words why pick a guy who undermines your own control when you can pick anyone you want?
Ps, had Ron Paul pulled off a crazy upset and won many of these same people would most likely be claiming that Paul is really a phony, that he worked all those years for the government and that all this time he was really just waiting for his chance to serve Leviathan and not the people. In fact many of the most hard core conspiracy theorists I know believe that Paul was controlled opposition already and that he was nothing but a plant allowed to continue just so that a few anti-government folks could feel some “hope” of there own. That’s the mindset of some of the people here, no matter what they can’t be proven wrong and the government or some other hidden powers are controlling everything and everyone and if anyone who gets to a point where they are seen as opposing those forces openly then they too must be part of the plot.

@126 Brad
Nice post. Maybe more paragraph breaks? Or is that just the 144-character brain talking?
I think you nail it. It seems there are many posters here who can’t seem to grasp the amount of collusion and acting would be necessary if this whole Trump-thing was indeed a farce. As it stands, I think, as do many posters, that Trump is a representative of the old-capitalist guard. The industrial sector, perhaps. And with this, one can infer that there is a shred of genuine nationalism (or call it “patriotism” if you are allergic to the term) that runs through DJT. And, if you think like me, you are willing to embrace all the potential nasty elements of nationalism as a means to an end (of the American empire).
To add to your post, furthermore, you are correct that DJT would be the biggest dumbass in the world if he did indeed sign on as controlled opposition only to be drug through acres of shit and character assassination as is occurring. Take a look at the video of Melania Trump swatting her husband’s hand away on the tarmac during his KSA visit. This is a man that is acting, yes, but is receiving no intimate support, we can assume. Sounds like a great job. SIGN ME UP!
I agree that he will probably fail. If he was to bring down the hammer on the globalists right out of the gate, he might not be around today. I think he idolizes Putin and is seeking a similar trajectory. The verdict is STILL out on if he will have enough time.
In the meanwhile, just ignore the blathering TDS that infects even these hallowed pages at MOA.

Suspicions about Trump start with Obama’s sly and well-documented service to the establishment. No bankers went to jail. They “foamed the runway” for bank foreclosures. The Bush tax cuts were made permanent. CIA rendition and torture was swept under the rug. Covert wars, color revolutions, and a new Cold War were masked by Obama’s Nobel-prize for being not-Bush.
Then there is Bernie Sanders. Another “populist” progressive democrat. Who agreed from the start to support the Democratic nominee. An action that won him the moniker “sheep-dog” from Black Agenda Report. He admitted that Hillary was a friend of 25 years and dutifully pulled punches – especially with regard to Hillary’s character. He refused to turn his campaign into a progressive Movement – even after learning of Hillary-DNC collusion.
With that starting point, it is natural to question if Trump is also a faux populist. And indeed, to question if it is even possible that a real populist could be elected in USA where the high cost of campaigns mean the establishment decides who runs for President.
And we can ask more questions like: How different is Trump’s governance from what Centrist Hillary would have done? To what extent has Trump been true to his populist rhetoric?
Lastly, it is difficult to ignore Trump’s long friendship with the Clinton’s and his quickly stating, after he won election, that there would be no prosecution of Hillary. Such forgiveness is unusual for Trump who is a vain and spiteful person that feuds with many celebrities.
Also consider: 18 republican politicians allowed Trump to roll over them. How strange it was that many Republicans would prefer Hillary AND how Hillary – who already had so much baggage – added “Obama’s legacy” to appeal to the black vote (a legacy that the establishment NEEDED to put behind them, just as Obama had ‘turned the page’ on the Bush years).
There is much more to say but I think I’ll leave it there for now.

The “enemy of the people” canard is very interesting: To a man, all of the fake “journalists” and “reporters” (because they’re nothing but screeching propagandists—starting with sanctimonious CNN prevaricator Jim Acosta) drone on and on that Trump said that about “the press” or “the media,” but in reality he said it about “fake news.” He was referring to THEM! By conflating “fake news” with “the press” and presuming to represent the latter, they admit that they are indeed fake news. As a thief who assumes that everyone steals if given a chance, they assume the entire press is on the bandwagon of their fake news, and therefore conclude that Trump’s shrewd “enemy of the people” label applies to the entire press. Their mendacity betrays itself and they don’t even realize it apparently. Unfortunately a lot of other people don’t seem to notice this little sleight-of-hand either. The immediate first answer should be: “Trump never said the press are the enemy of the people. He said FAKE NEWS are the enemy of the people. YOU, not the press.” Which reinforces exactly how really fake they are.
