And the Pope said, "Some people are fun, others though ..."

Rather dour looking in that bottom photo. Curious as to who sought the appointment.

Maybe the Pope was still smarting over the criticism he recently got in Chile for accusing victims of paedophile priest Fernando Karadima of calumny when they said that Bishop Juan Barros had done nothing but allowed Karadima to abuse them.

In the meantime, Erdogan is occupying Syria under some shaddy deal with Russia. The more things change, the more they remain the same :D

lol! they say a picture tells a 1000 words...

@3 jen... yeah - the timing of the pics is relevant... actually i heard it told very differently... so - there are a few different interpretations going on with regard to the popes response...

Everyone is fun, but not always to everyone else. Unless you're a sadist or a nihilist, in which case, enjoy the show-it'll continue until Captain Trips comes for us.

The pope and Erdo are equally effective at comforting the afflicted.

Both photos look photoshopped to me, the bottom one in particular...... am I missing a joke somewhere in this?

Officially the main point of Erdo's visit was to discuss the final status of Jerusalem. Lots of agitation currently around internationalisation. Some ppl need to justify their 5 digits salary once it wld seem.

It's not hard to understand why Erdogan prefer to honor his long tradition of goat molesting....

The pope probably does not like to have a megalomaniac to his right and an aubergine to his left...

@11

same here.

Great photos! Very funny.

Slightly off topic, but non the less very interesting, M.K. Bhadrakumar in Asia Times writes of the perilous situation in Idlib between the Russians and Turks. His take is that a rift may form between them, due to the Su-25 downing, and Turkish troops in Syria. He also alludes that there may be other players involved in creating this rift, and more evidence is required, as the stakes are incredibly high.

It is a fun comment by b, we also need to relax a bit! Us to the left sometimes get so bloody serious and high strung, that other doubt we are for real. Its a nice find and well worth a broad smile.

It is not that I am fan of Tayyip...but at minimum of respect and culture, he properly buttoned his suits. I guess that's difference between Europeans (although many denied them the place in Europe) and savages know as the US.

long live pope Francis!
and the next pope should come from africa!

Posted by: augusto | Feb 6 2018 22:41 utc | 27

The simple explanation for the difference is that Rouhani is a known-master of the fart joke, whereas everyone knows that Erdogan is legendary for being, ahem, "tight-arsed" about such things.

Heck, somewhere out there must be a photo of an innocent-looking Hassan Rouhani extending an lump index finger to ol' Frankie, with an invitation to "Here, You Eminence, pull this".

Hilarity ensued, as witnessed by b's photo.....

Huh? Wtf is this? We're not all left leaning bum chums in here mate. Us? Who do you speak for? In order to reduce further provocations, I recommend you use the preview function before you post such sweeping assumptions on the demographic of this blogs readership.

According to the modern scholars of Nostradamus, Pope Benedict (Ratzinger) was the penultimate Pope which would make Pope Francis the Last Pope. i.e. Pope Francis the Final.
