Posted by: Mina | Dec 23 2016 11:14 utc | 178 Re Mina 182. The Brits say they get important intelligence from the Saudis. It’s one of the reasons put forward for continuing the alliance with Saudi. I have difficulty in imagining what that intelligence might be. Whenever I’ve been with Saudis, they’ve been notable for their ignorance of anything outside their little world. Of course the Brits are going to claim that they get intelligence about upcoming jihadi attacks, but that’s just a fiction, in order to justify the security crackdown in Britain and Europe. I can’t imagine a Saudi prince handing over actual data about a coming attack, unless it is to get back at a rival prince. After all, the support for the jihadis is strong in Saudi. Anybody betraying them would not be well appreciated. Posted by: Laguerre | Dec 23 2016 11:29 utc | 179 Turkish raids leave 88 civilians in northern Syria: Report

I think you’re looking at it slightly wrong. Not that I would believe the PressTV report, but you know, the removal of foreign militias would tear the heart out of the rebellion. It would be the forerunner of an imminent end. çavusoglu should understand the implications of what he’s saying. Basically, it comes down to Turkey taking responsibility and negotiating a ceasefire for “their” groups, and anybody else fighting against the Syrian government or not toeing the line set by Iran, Russia or Syria is a terrorist. Or, groups that do not have Syrian, Russian, Turkish, Iranian protection are “out”.
