I read some reports earlier in the week about the SAA claiming to have shot down an Israeli warplane and a drone over the Golan Heights. I haven’t heard anyone breathe a word about it since the reports and subsequent denial. I can’t fathom why the SAA would lie about something so serious, nor would I have expected the Israeli gov would not to exploit it for propaganda or escalation purposes. Can anyone shed some light on this?

FecklessLeft@1 – Syrians fired their SAMs against both targets and the missiles likely exploded – the explosions themselves may have been visible from the ground (depends). Whether they actually hit the targets and/or took them down is debatable. This was at night and the targets would have been several tens of kilometers away. Impossible to have seen (visually) exactly what happened from the SAM site besides maybe the explosion. The targets were well into the Golan in Israeli-occupied/head-chopper controlled territory, so the Syrians couldn’t verify by the wreckage if they were, indeed, taken down. The Israelis are never going to admit to anything, of course.
The F-16 would have disappeared from radar either way – being hit or taking evasive, radar-evading action or electronic countermeasures afterwards. The SAM operator probably can’t tell either way just from looking at his scope. The F-16 ‘disappearing’ from the scope does not automatically mean it was hit/downed. There would have been a massive search and recovery effort by the Israelis if the F-16 was down in their territory, but nobody reported any kind of activity like that.
Since most drones don’t have any anti-SAM radar-evading capability, you could reasonably conclude that if the target disappeared after the warhead exploded, then it’s probably gone for good.
If I had to guess, I would say it’s pretty unlikely that an old SA-5 Gammon fired from a S-200 rig could take out a modern F-16 (but not impossible). Scare it away, sure. The drone? Probably. What I don’t know is if Syria was using better SAMs there, like a S-300/BUK system. I doubt the Russian S-400 is anywhere near there. Everyone is just guessing at this point.
Whatever SAM capabilities the SAA had in Qunietra, they are certainly a threat to the Israelis. Just saw these tweets from a little while ago:

The Israelis have pretty good jamming and advanced anti-radiation missiles (used to take out SAM sites) that can be fired from quite a distance away. So the retaliatory strike is possible and – I would say – expected. The SAA SAM capabilities by themselves are limited.
If Russia decided that Israel shouldn’t be bombing Syria, then they could shut down the skies over southern Syria fairly quickly. The Israelis wouldn’t go up against a S-400. Russia has – for whatever reason – decided not to place those kind of assets in southern Syria (yet).
The U.S. jets are bombing SAA positions in Deir EzZor and the Israelis are bombing the SAA and their SAM sites in Qunietra. I’m sure Russian patience is wearing thin. They could very easily close the skies over Syria, but obviously prefer to act like a responsible, rational state for now. Poking the bear always carries an unfortunate risk with it, usually involving the pokee’s arm.

Russia is confirming (via information from the SAA, apparently rather than directly though) that US planes attacked SAA at the Dier EzZor airport, killing 62 troops. Sputnik article
There is a small note of it in US mainstream press thus far, evidenced by this Reuters article. The charge that the strike was seemingly coordinated with Daesh is very concerning to anyone who wants to see a stable Syria. More proof is needed, but if evidence confirms the charges it will be hard for even the US to wiggle out of this one.

Amazing that not even a week goes by, and USA bullies its way into existence in Syria and takes out 62 Syrian military personel. I bet those soldiers fought like heroes for hte past 5 years, and are now all vaporized – finito.
What’s Russia going to do now? Go to the UN to enforce the secret framework behind closed doors? Strong arm USA into compliance? Putin played games with peoples lives, and will have to either go defcon or keep allowing for parts of Syria to be carved away, presumably for a minimum of decades. Furthermore, the existential threat of foreign jihadists will always have a foothold now. I guess China and Russia will at least have their navy bases, huh? Perhaps they can expand it enough to adequately recieve all the future refugees for resettlement

There is no oversight of these nursing home medical records or their drug-interaction expariments on the inmates, and if the victim becomes comatose, they are placed in an ‘advanced care’ facility, strapped into barco-loungers in groups by subcontracting ‘health-care’ subcontractors, silently left in a darkened room, with damp clothes over their faces, living dead, until their reverse-mortgage or medical insurance runs out. Then a hearse comes after midnight to remove the ‘died unexpectedly’ corpse.
This may or may not shock people. Most people choose cognitive dissonance, rather than confront another fascist force in their lives they cannot control. Hope and chains, baby. Be good, be docile, clean your plate, and maybe you won’t go to the gas chamber.
My cousin is a nurse and has reported this confirmation, after I witnessed it first-hand, in person, with a now-deceased relative, watching the ‘health care’ associate stand there with a glass of water while the victim choked down those handfuls of pills, every day, becoming more and more ossified, morbid, comatose, then later the zombie barcolounger facility, and finally the death certificate stating only ‘failure to thrive’.

Then we make a couple, three changes to our constitution, ensuring our control from here on in.
Then we’ll have come of age, no one to blame but ourselves.

My money is on Mauritius. Not food self-sufficient, but not too far from it if need there be, and far more cosmopolitan than yer suggested Indo. WSHTF, in Indo, you’re just a Bule sticking out like a sore thumb and begging for a gang to come rob you and perchance get rid of the evidence.
Besides, Indo gets involved in many hypothetical SE Asian wars. Mauritius has no one worthwhile to invade, and it’s nowhere near worthwhile to get invaded itself. Mostly inhabited by non-white people (ie. non-lynchmob targets) who actually don’t hate white people too much. And are mostly Indian, and no one messes with Indians without a damn good reason, of which there are absolutely none no matter how hard you try to come up with one.
And the southern hemisphere + tropical combo shelter from the fallout + the entire mid Indian ocean to keep the temps up during the Nuke twilight helps.

Apparently it’s the foundation upon which ‘Nobel’ Prizes in Economics are built. The ‘Nobel’ Prize for economics was established by the Swedish Central Bank in 1968, as the cover for the 1%. The bankers have created a stable of Nobelists who labor all their nights, spinning the straw of the 1%’s deafness, dumbness, and blindness into the gold of their goodness, wisdom, and generosity.

The Al Jazeera English Newshour broadcast of Obama’s farewell UN speech was was a bit of a surprise. The co-hosts are a male and a female reporter. The male reporter, when asked by his co-host to share his initial thoughts after the speech, launched into an anti-Obama tirade, indignantly calling the speech a “Sermon” and pointing out its numerous flaws, omissions, general hypocrisy, and “the gap between words and deeds.”
Waste of space (and Oxygen) Ban Ki Moon, mouthed the Neocon line on Assad, as usual, complete with “barrel bombs” and “killing his own people” drivel.
When the program shifted back to the co-hosts, the above mentioned bloke resumed his tirade, opening it up to include Russia’s role in Syria and rounding out his critique by accusing Washington AND Moscow of “bullshitting the world.”
Well worth a look, and very Duterte-ish, if it’s on A-J’s website. In theory the program should be identifiable as the Obama UN speech edition. The tirade starts immediately after the end of Obama’s speech which puts it at about 20 minutes from the beginning of the Newshour broadcast.

He takes as his text this snippet from a recent Politico interview.
Donald Trump, I think, will have a lot of trouble moving things through Congress. Hillary Clinton, on the other hand, won’t … Hillary has the potential to do a whole lot more damage, get us into more wars, faster to pass her fracking disastrous climate program, much more easily than Donald Trump could do his.
Debunking this “reasoning” is pretty short work.
There is so much stupidity in this it is hard to know where to begin. Firstly, Congress is controlled by the Republican Party who are about as likely to pass anything Hillary Clinton proposes as they would be for president Obama…. To think that Clinton, a politician vilified and hounded by Republicans for almost 25 years, would have a better chance of “moving things” through a Republican controlled congress is completely fucking insane.
He also makes short work in comparing Mrs. Clinton with The Duckhead on environmental policy. She has endorsements from major environmental groups. Trump thinks global warming is a Chinese hoax.
Nor does he compare well on foreign policy. The Duckhead has already promised wars of aggression and increased use of “enhanced interrogation techniques.”
This brings him to the following conclusion:
Anyone vaguely worried about the future of humanity and the survival of our biosphere knows that a Donald Trump presidency would be an unprecedented, unmitigated disaster. For Jill Stein to pretend otherwise isn’t just stupid, it’s treacherously stupid.
I think “treacherously stupid” is a bit over the top. “Willfully stupid” I’d say.
Meanwhile, The Donald continues to make shit up. Trump Claims Lester Holt’s A Democrat, Debates Rigged Against Him. Holt has been a registered Republican for over a dozen years.

I saw the movie Snowden today and highly recommended it to all. Not all Americans are bad and hopefully this will wake a few more up.
James Clapper lied to the US Senate and the American public about spying but the real story is the TIA (Total Information Awareness) exists and is a weapon of human slavery…….Those that never read about the Nuremberg trials after WWII are allowing war crimes on that scale and worse to happen again.

Italian warship docks at Iranian port
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – An Italian naval warship berthed at Iran’s southern port city of Bandar Abbas on Saturday as part of political and naval cooperation between Tehran and Rome.
During their stay in Iran, Italian servicemen on board the warship, named Euro, will hold meetings with Iranian Navy officials, visit a number of Iranian islands, and learn about the Iranian Navy’s military achievements and capabilities.
The Italian and Iranian forces are also going to carry out joint naval exercises.

That she didn’t pay much or any attention to the missile theory as far as I can recall is weird in itself.
