MoA readers may enjoy the “progressive” kerfuffle at nakedcapitalism.com.
Yves put up another pro-Hillary guest post (see note below). This time arguing that “progressives” should essentially vote for Hillary but work to hold her feet to the fire.
Yves and Lambert then argue against a barrage of anti-Hillary, pro-Green commenters. In particular, Yves blatent bashing of Jill Stein is memorable(emphasis is mine):

She is not even remotely qualified to run for President. The fact that she has put herself forward as a candidate means I can’t take her or the Greens seriously. Fetishizing the Presidency and failing to do the hard work of developing your own bench via running for local and state offices is ass-backwards and shows a dilettantish attitude towards governing.

Anyway, don’t miss the many many excellent comments from real progressives that are anti-Hillary, anti-DNC, and sick of the way that they have been played.

I just took the time to watch CNN Town Hall Green Party Jill Stein & Ajamu Baraka, and I can recommend it … I’d say as an antidote to Clinton/Trump appearances, but I haven’t watched any. I can imagine them only too well. Surely Jill Stein and Ajamu Baracka are head and shoulders above the animals in the menagerie. I would have no trouble making Jill Stein and Ajamu Baracka my choice in November. Certainly my choice will be an ‘other’ … no to Clinton, no to Trump.

Syrian pound drops sharply against US dollar: central bank

The value of the Syrian pound fell sharply by six percent over the weekend, losing ground to the dollar, the central bank in Damascus said Sunday.
Economist Chadi Ahmad told AFP said the sharp drop in the exchange rate was due to growing demand by the government to use dollars to buy petroleum products overseas ahead of winter.
“The government is trying to acquire petrol because of the shortage in the markets, as well as diesel before the winter season,” he said.
The value of the Syrian pound has depreciated by more than 110% to the dollar since Syria’s conflict erupted in March 2011.
Oil production in Syria has dropped to 8,120 barrels per day compared to the 380,000 barrels produced daily before war broke out in 2011.
As well as devastating the economy, the conflict has killed more than 290,000 people and displaced millions.

Saudi Arabia hits another school in Yemen

Saudi pilots have launched yet another airstrike on a school in the Yemeni province of Ta’izz, with no information immediately available on possible casualties.
Back in June, the United Nations (UN) put Saudi Arabia on a blacklist of countries that kill and maim children. It concluded in a report that Riyadh had been responsible for 60 percent of the 785 deaths of children in the Saudi war on Yemen in 2015. A few days later, however, the world body announced that Saudi Arabia would be taken off the list pending a joint review with Saudi Arabia.
Reports by media outlets in the United States — which has offered intelligence support for the Saudi war by helping Saudi forces acquire “targets” — have pointed to the incompetence as well as cowardice on the part of the Saudi pilots conducting airstrikes as some of the reasons why indiscriminate bombing occurs in Yemen.

The US blames it on their own clients’ “cowardice”. Not like the real men of the USAF … ‘If the pilot’s good, see, I mean if he’s reeeally sharp, he can barrel that baby in so low… oh you oughta see it sometime. It’s a sight. A plane like an F-16 … varrrooom! Its jet exhaust… frying chickens in the barnyard!’

Twenty years since Clinton’s welfare “reform”

In destroying welfare, President Clinton had the enthusiastic backing of his wife, Hillary Clinton, who is now the Democratic candidate for US president. The ex-president emphasized her role in a 2006 op-ed piece in the New York Times titled “How We Ended Welfare, Together.” In the article, Clinton boasted that welfare rolls had been reduced from 12.2 million to 4.5 million in the first decade of his “reform.”
The destruction of the federal welfare system was part of a social counterrevolution by the American ruling class initiated in the last years of the Democratic administration of Jimmy Carter in the late 1970s and escalated during the Reagan years of the 1980s. It marked the complete abandonment of the policy of liberal reform associated with Roosevelt’s New Deal in the 1930s and Johnson’s War on Poverty in the mid-1960s.
The Clintons were leading figures in the Democratic Leadership Council, which renounced such reforms and helped transform the Democratic Party into the leading party of Wall Street.
The war on the poor, with its denunciations of “generations of dependency” and demands for “personal responsibility,” coincided with a bipartisan program of unlimited government welfare for corporate America and the super-rich. These were the days of “irrational exuberance” on Wall Street, the Clinton administration’s repeal of the Glass-Steagall Act and other Depression-era banking regulations, the destruction of millions of better-paying manufacturing jobs, the growth of financialization, and the rise of a new financial aristocracy to the pinnacle of the American economy.
Over the last seven-and-a-half years, the Obama administration has intensified this social counterrevolution, slashing the wages of autoworkers, shifting the burden of health care and pensions onto the backs of workers, and funneling trillions to Wall Street and trillions more to the Pentagon to wage nonstop war.

Anyone telling themselves that they are voting for the lessor-of-two-evils when they vote jackass is not paying attention.
When asked “Given the way our political system works, effectively you could help Donald Trump, like Ralph Nader helped George Bush in 2000. How can you sleep at night?”
Jill Stein replied “I will have trouble sleeping at night if Donald Trump is elected. I will also have trouble sleeping at night if Hillary Clinton is elected.”
You don’t have to be a Stein supporter to share her trouble sleeping. You don’t have to vote for Jill Stein to vote for someone ‘other’ than the elephant or the jackass.
