I’ve been increasingly alarmed by the unconditional support for the neo-fascist junta in Ukraine. But it’s seemed merely deeply cynical. The U.S. has backed Nazis and fascists before in proxy and civil wars. (see: the motley crew of Nazis the CIA relied on to overthrow Mossadegh.)
But I’m really disturbed to the core by the deliberate targeting of civilians in Yemen. This is a war of extermination. Supposedly the U.S. is picking targets to help the Saudis avoid civilian casualties. Sounds like what they’re actually doing is helping the Saudis pick civilian targets. And we now can infer without a doubt that the Saudis are backing Al Qaeda – shipping weapons to the Qaeda-controlled “councils,” sparing the Qaeda-controlled areas from airstrikes, areas where food and medicine are miraculously plentiful, and where a shipment of wheat just arrived from Ukraine (surely not a coincidence).
I think America is becoming outright totalitarian. I now believe in the inverted totalitarianism people have referenced here – but I’m also starting to believe that totalitarianism is getting “extroverted.” Forgive me, jaded observers, if my shock amuses you.
A final note on Yemen: I wrote some number of days ago that I thought the deep state is dragging us into a strategically senseless, criminal war partly against Obama’s wishes. And that it showed in anonymous officials’ expressions of embarrassment and bafflement about the war in major newspapers. Shortly after I wrote that, the Saudis announced their fake halt to the bombing. I think that’s proof if you need any that the deep state is behind this – it’s a very deep-state charade to run – and I think it also hints, again, at the possibility the Obama administration has lost control of the Saudis, and even our own military – since our military is evidently waging naked genocide in tandem with the Saudis.

Yemeni tribal men take over 4 Saudi military posts: Report

Citing Yemeni sources, the Lebanese Al-Manar channel reported on Tuesday that members of Yemeni tribes entered Saudi soil from Yemen’s northwestern Sa’ada Province and took control of the military posts in Najran and Jazan regions.
The report added that several Saudi troops were detained by the Yemeni tribesmen as well.
Riyadh has not commented on the report.
The development comes amid the continuation of Saudi Arabia’s military aggression against Yemen.
Yemeni media say different areas of Sa’ada were hit by 50 rockets overnight. Earlier, Hajjah Province came under attack.
On Monday, dozens of people were reportedly killed or injured in airstrikes on the southern province of Ibb.
Elsewhere in the southern Aden Province, an airport was hit more than 150 times.

Finally after a month some news about Tikrit from the Daily Star. As I expected the Iraqi/Iranian militias have not left the city even though the Government ordered them to do so long ago. Local residents have reported that the militias claim they are still battling with the Islamic State in the city and refuse to allow the civilians to return home. Many other displaced residents fear the presence of the militias and would not return until they leave the city to the local Sunni police forces.

I know the concept & restrictions, strict orthodox can’t turn on the lights or stove, so they leave them on. But I didn’t know there was a term for it.

Hopefully not too much clutter, I try and keep the anti-trolling short. I intend to toss out a little snark, but I get my beserker up and then Katey bar the door.
It’s not so much I’m naive, it’s the adrenaline rush from the scrum, frankly. I find it particularly hard to back off about Soviets, especially if you throw in fascists and the war. Could be a jones, could be a character flaw. Is it a bug or a feature? Well, opinions vary….
Here though I was in part trying to respond to Luca, but I can see at 84 he’s too far gone.
I’ll try and stay on the wagon. Don’t hesitate to prompt me to get back on the straight and narrow, Barflies.
