Ukraine: Financial Rating Propaganda Likely To Fail

International credit rating agencies like S&P are nothing but political instruments. Consider this from July 11:

Ukraine had its credit-rating outlook raised to stable from negative by Standard & Poor’s after the country obtained a $17 billion bailout loan from the International Monetary Fund.
...
“Full disbursement of the IMF program and related multilateral lending should enable Ukraine to meet its external financing needs over the next year,” S&P analysts said in an e-mailed statement.

Now compare that with a real world report from July 17:

The IMF now expects Ukraine's economy to shrink by 6.5% this year, compared with 5% at the time the emergency loans were agreed. GDP stagnated last year.

Ukraine's government is spending more than expected on security as it battles the separatists. Having lost control of parts of the country, revenue collection is also falling behind schedule.

And state gas firm Naftogaz is struggling to force customers to pay their debts.
...
"The program hinges crucially on the assumption that the conflict will begin to subside in the coming months," the IMF said. "A significant prolongation of the crisis would seriously strain their ability to [reform the economy] without a substantial increase in external support on adequate terms."

The IMF more explicitly formulated: "Expect more of your money being wasted on the Nazis in Kiev."

Fortunately, after the rating disaster of mortgage bonds and derivatives that led to the financial crisis, smart real world investors have become mostly immune of the rating companies' nonsense, diminishing their influence further into the pure propaganda territory. From the last lines of first piece:

Global bond yields showed investors ignored 56 percent of Moody’s and 50 percent of S&P’s rating and outlook changes in 2012, more often disagreeing when the companies said governments were becoming safer or more risky, data compiled by Bloomberg show.

The S&P propaganda effort will therefore likely fail.

@guest77 #99:

The first I heard of this ATC was during the Maidan protests. He tweeted about them.

I must say that it annoys me that he tweets (or tweeted, rather) in Spanish. Isn't ATC done in English the world over? So why doesn't he tweet in English? (I don't have anything against Spanish. I even tried to learn it for a little while, when I was into Spanish girls. I started to understand Spanish a little, since I know French and was hanging around Spanish people a lot. Spanish now sounds more beautiful to me than French.)

The main question that remains for me with respect to MH17 is the two fighter jets that the Spanish ATC mentions. One theory I have run across is that the single Buk did not down the plane (although it did significant damage), so a fighter than fired at it to finish it off.

Assuming, as both of us do, that this was a US/Yukie false flag op, it would make sense to have fighter jets intercept the airliner, in case the Buk didn't do the job. I guess they would keep a sufficient distance, so that they didn't get hit by the Buk by mistake.

Really, this is the sole mystery remaining in this whole sorry episode, as far as I'm concerned.

Donetsk. 07/20/2014-22:39

Strelkov:

Heavy battles proceed in area of Lisichansk and Popasnaya. So far, commander Mozgovoy holds on. On river Severskiy Donets, unit “Loma” (reports to Mozgovoy, combatants of Donetsk People Republic) sunk 2 pontoons as the opponent attempted to cross the river in the morning.

The opponent indicated moves against Popasnaya. Cossacks under command of Kozitsin, “enforcing” the garrison, expectedly ran away – who left are local combatants and assigned troops from our brigade. Topped them up by “slavyans” (combatants from Slavyansk) and anti-tank gear to be able to retain the city.

Here, we continue battles for settlement Marinovka. An assault on enemy fortifications between the settlement and the border inflicted them losses, however, they continue to retain a strip of about 2 km wide. Last night, we struck an opponent column in area of settlement Grigor`evka. The opponent replied by bombardment of Dmitrovka and Marinovka from Grads (salvo rocket system).

Ukrainian armored units keep maneuvering to the north of Donetsk airport - moving back and forth. Perhaps - in vain hope to bait as out of settlement Andreevka. The airport so far is being blocked.

In overall, the battles carry on. Situation is stern, but it is too early for Ukrainians to celebrate the victory.

The Russians have lost the Europeans, most importantly the Germans. Putin is in a no win situation and his photoshopped "great man" glow now resembles the ashen pallor of the undertaker.

None of the forever changing propaganda angles of the Russian is any more convincing than the previous theory. The scrubbed tweets and the subsequent actions of the Rebels is not helping.

No matter whether who done it can ever be found this is a setback for the rebels and the Russians.

@chalo #103:

Go away, troll. Russians can't lose the Europeans, because Russians, unlike Americans, are Europeans. The truth will come out about MH17, as it did with Ghouta.

Anyone who's been here longer than I have an idea of what name this "chalo" might have used before? He appears to have come out of nowhere.

Parry's at it again:

What I’ve been told by one source, who has provided accurate information on similar matters in the past, is that U.S. intelligence agencies do have detailed satellite images of the likely missile battery that launched the fateful missile, but the battery appears to have been under the control of Ukrainian government troops dressed in what look like Ukrainian uniforms.

The source said CIA analysts were still not ruling out the possibility that the troops were actually eastern Ukrainian rebels in similar uniforms but the initial assessment was that the troops were Ukrainian soldiers. There also was the suggestion that the soldiers involved were undisciplined and possibly drunk, since the imagery showed what looked like beer bottles scattered around the site, the source said.

no americans on board
'Initial reports stated that 23 Americans were on board. However, President Obama said Friday that at least one American was among the dead. The manifest listed no Americans, but the State Department confirmed in a tweet that Quinn Lucas Schansman, listed as a Dutch citizen on the manifest, held dual-citizenship.

@brian #106:

No Israelis, either. ;-)

I'm sure that the CIA gave a heads up to the Israelis, but not to any European countries. No doubt, members of European intelligence services are mulling on that right now.

The US now conducts terrorist acts against Europeans in Europe. Still feel good about Atlanticism? What's it like having the US as your "most important" ally?

The aviatinist - all flights over Eastern Ukraine were accompanied by fighter jets

Makes you feel really safe ...

@somebody #110:

That article suggests that the rebels have operational Buk systems, whereas I have never sees any credible reports which indicate that that is the case.

That Ukie fighters routinely accompany airliners flying through the former Ukraine is an interesting proposition, however. Although what useful purpose such accompaniment could serve is not clear at all.

Lyubov Kudryavets, a worker at the Torez morgue, said the evening the plane went down, a resident brought in the bloodied body of a young child. On Saturday, militiamen came to take away the body away, she said.

"They began to question me: 'Where are the fragments of rocket? Where are the fragments from the plane?'" Kudryavets said. "But I didn't have any wreckage. ... I swear."

Lyubov Kudryavets, anyone can vouch for this person?

The issue is this - only found it in German

Brief translation/summary of the main point: airlines at present follow the advice of foreign ministries on the security of flight paths, in future secret service information should be included in the decision making, according to the CEO of Emirates airlines.

As I understand it pro-Russians had shot down several military Ukrainian planes the days before the Malaysian flight tragedy. Also Ukrainian military planes had bombed targets in Eastern Ukraine.

If it was standard policy to accompany civilian planes over Eastern Ukrainian airspace by fighter jets for "security" this must have been known to airlines, proposed by Ukraine, and some airlines seem to have opted out of it.

Considering the fighting history of the days before the tragedy, the Ukraine government is threatened by allegations of having used human shields.

Obama is very quiet on the issue and Putin sounds very laid back.

Video of Ukraine Buk being transported on a nice new low loader through Krasnoarmiiska. No sign of associated radar or control vehicles, just the missile launcher. The video site is Ukrainian held territory, supposedly at 95 Horkoho Street, Krasnoarmiis'k, Donetsk Oblast, Ukraine. Google maps indicate the Buk is travelling north-west away further into Ukrainian territory

The early versions from 3 days ago are titled

Бойовики вивозять ракетний комплекс 'БУК' до кордону із РФ

Interestingly there are now multiple newer version claiming it is a Russian system. A TV report showing it claims it has 4 missiles and is travelling towards the Russian border. Another website claims it shows a launcher with two missing missiles is Russian. The propagandists are out in force. How many missiles did this launcher have 2, 3, 4?

This video shows a Ukrainian Buk battery with control truck, loader and launcher at 0:53 onwards.

This video shows a Buk launch. Note how massive the plume is, how much noise it makes, how much light the rocket motor produces and the size of the explosion.

Reuters - The path of Malaysia Air flight 17

Yep. Above flight path compared with flight path of Malaysia Air the day before.

And airlines, pilots and air traffic controllers know about it.

Demian, you mean to say "go away, truth."

Russia and Putin have been dealt setback here let's be honest.

I like this blog but I notice the tendency to attack the debater rather than have debate. It is totally unclear what happened to airliner and the Rebels and Russia are working harder to make more unclear. This is the truth.

Your conspiracy theorizing in particular I notice indicates a weak mind susceptible to media manipulation.

So that is why the Ukrainians have confiscated the air traffic communications records. If hope the Spainbuca guy is somewhere safe and not in a regime dungeon or worse.
