Turkey is expelling Saudi intelligence. This is another sign of rapprochment between Turkey and the “resistance axis”, following FM Davoutoglu’s visit to Tehran and his meeting with the Iraqi FM.

If Turkey is expelling Saudi intelligence, can its shutting down the harbor given to Syrian rebels on Turkish territory be far away?

Towards the end of Abby Martin’s latest interview with Oliver Stone and Peter Kuznick, she says it’s hard to believe in the official story of 9/11 that there was just mass ineptitude by the U.S. government. Implying that the U.S. government was complicit. Oliver Stone’s reply is a study in discomfort. Then both he and Kuznick get back to the business of pushing the ‘mass ineptitude’ story again…

I found interesting the latest polling (NBC/WSJ) on the political leadership in Washington D.C. It’s off the charts. Obama is registering the lowest approval ratings of his presidency. Republicans are the first party in the poll’s history to go north of a 50% negative ratings. Democrtas who were licking their chops for the midterm elections becuase of the Tea Party government shutdown and flirtation with default are now running for cover because the Obamacare abomination.

@ LLza
Thanks for the link. This has been a trend bubbling under the surface in the last few weeks. Ultimately no side wants to end up on the losing side. So you suddenly have a rash of defections from the Saudi side to the Resistance Axis. After all fighting for a losing side shows loyalty, but being on the Winning side is much more profitable. With the US refusal to attack Syria, the outcome is now clearer.
So what defections have happened in the last few weeks.
Hamas: Hamas had always been on the side of the Resistance Axis, funded and trained by Iran/Hezbollah and with Hamas head, Khalid Meshaal, living most of the last decade in Damascus under Assad’s protection. But with the rise of its sister organisation the Muslim Brotherhood in Egpyt and the war to oust Assad causing Sunni-Shia tension, Hamas switched sides and moved under Qatari-Muslim Brotherhood sponsorship instead. Meshaal left Damascus and flew to Qatar.
The worst news came when Hezbollah fighters in Syria, found themselves being attacked in the town of Al Qusair by Hamas fighters using the same tactics and weapons Hezbollah had given them. But now with the Coup in Egypt, the Muslim Brotherhood is again suffering a crackdown. Also with the removal of the Qatari emir they have lost most sponsorship they had and its tunnels into Gaza, a vital source of revenue, are being dismantled by Egypt’s military.
Hamas is now without allies/sponsorship and is again finding itself needing the Resistance Axis. Meshaal is scheduled to fly to Tehran in the coming weeks. He also said that him waving a FSA flag at a rally was a “mistake” and talks are beginning between Hezbollah and Hamas again.
Qatar is meanwhile finding itself in a bind. It needs a Gas pipeline route running through Syria to the Med to pipe its South Pars Gas Field (largest Gas field in the world) to Europe. Worse is that Iran owns around 33% of the field. So Qatar needs both Iranian goodwill and a pipeline through Syria. Both elements looking pretty bad at present. This week brought news that Qatar is willing to reopen ties with Hezbollah. The new Emir in Qatar also invited Rouhani to visit Qatar and is talking of improving ties with Iran.
Turkey: As LLza linked too Turkey is expelling Saudi intelligence agents from the country which hopefully will impact the organisation of the Syrian rebels. Turkey also last month closed its border crossing in Azaz which is vital to resupplying the rebels, since most of the other checkpoints with Turkey are held by Kurds. Azaz was the last proper checkpoint still safely in rebel hands its closure means supplies will be tight going into the Winter.
All in all these developments are signs that Turkey, Qatar and Hamas are all moving away from Saudi Arabia and closer to Iran. Broadly speaking the US has shown that it is willing to betray allies, while Iran has shown that it will stay loyal to allies, even in the face war.

KerKaraje @ 10 — Thnx for the link
When oh when will the world demand that Israel face, oh, UN sanctions for its wanton disregard of the rules of war and international relations? How often do they get to just bomb neighbors willy-nilly and get no pushback from the rest of the world?
And when will US support of such things result in sanctions against it for such lack of common international decency?
Yeah, I know. It’s what a hegemon, even a “rapidly undeveloping” hegemon, can get away with. It’s just so disgusting. Frustrating and infuriating.

– Hamas: Hamas had always been on the side of the Resistance Axis… Posted by: Colm O’ Toole | Nov 1, 2013 2:33:00 PM | 9

Personally, I have always thought of Hamas as mere opportunists. It’s an unfortunate fact of the frontline environment that little ‘resistance’ groups become mere mercenaries. The frontline states have an overwhelming interest in appearing to support ‘resistance’ against the Zionist Entity without actually upsetting the real power balance. This is why ‘resistance’ groups fractionate in the way they do. Thus for instance the PFLP underwent a split when the majority joined the compromisist trend and the minority split off to become the PFLP-GC. I shan’t attach Wikipedia links, but I suggest that particular history might be an illustrative cameo.

Posted by: Rowan Berkeley | Nov 2 2013 8:55 utc | 23

@ Rowan
Agree. There have been opportunists on all sides.
Iran does find the Palestinians struggle as a way to prove its not just a Shia movement and used Hamas to point to the fact is also supports Sunni Muslim groups in Palestine. It also uses its funding to burnish its Anti-Imperialist credentials. Hamas can be just as opportunistic taking money from whoever offers the most generous terms.
But as the old saying goes “Money wins wars not soldiers”. Fact is Palestine (by Zionist design) doesn’t have an economy to support prolonged warfare, and bullets sadly don’t grow on olive trees. Palestinian groups need external support and that will always involve a degree of mercenary behaviour.

Yanis Varoufakis is without a doubt one of the most insightful commenters on the situation in Europe.
His latest talk ‘The Dirty War for Europe’s Integrity & Soul’ is well worth listening too. He describes the rise of fascism/naziism in Greece. He discusses how the breaking of countries like Greece, Ireland, and Portugal are meant not to help those poor countries, but to instead engender fear in the populations of countries like Italy and France to make sure they toe the austerity line.
Fascinating speech. No one knows the crisis in Europe better.

Not dead, not even real. Peter Baelish AKA Littlefinger from Game of Thrones 😀 There’s a lot of truth on politics and power in that show !
Of course the correct answer to that quote would be “If money wins wars and not soldiers, why doesn’t Saudi Arabia rule the world?” in which case I would give you a genuine old quote “a fool and his money are easily parted”.

A very interesting view from Syria.
He states that the prime mover of the crisis is the United States which works to divide the region along ethnic lines to legitimize the existence of Israel as an ethnically homogeneous state.
He makes clear the different priorities animating the Israelis and the Saudis in the crisis. Very interesting overall.

Lefts new sport: Brand Bashing
‘”What is perhaps most remarkable though is the way that Brand was immediately attacked by factions of the left, which decided that rather than piggyback off of the sudden popular interest in revolutionary ideas that Brand’s comments provided, they would rather denounce him as an inauthentic revolutionary who fails to pay due attention to favored leftist causes such as fighting patriarchy, LGBTQ liberation and immigrant rights.
That’s right – the left is briefly given a window of opportunity in which much of the country is openly discussing revolutionary ideas, and instead of welcoming and leveraging that opportunity, the leftist instinct is to attack the messenger and effectively shut the window by bringing up divisive issues related to identity politics and the culture wars.”‘

reasonableness, compassion, anger at funding violent men….this is how the empire wants us to perceive its policies:
Giving an example of the deliveries’ impact, however, Ford said Gen. Salim Idris, commander of the Western-backed Free Syrian Army, told him that Syrian air force jets refurbished by Russia and delivered to Assad’s forces “make a huge difference.”
“I think the Russians would help everyone get to the negotiating table if they would stop these deliveries,” Ford said.
Russian officials have repeatedly defended the weapons shipments, saying Moscow is fulfilling previously signed contracts and not violating international law with the deliveries.
Ford told Thursday’s hearing that the United States and its allies had succeeded in getting one Syria-bound Russian arms delivery sent back by convincing an insurance company to withdraw its coverage from the ship carrying the cargo.
“But that’s a rare success,” Ford said. “ … It would be great if we could make better progress with the Russians.”
Thomas Countryman, assistant US secretary of state for international security and nonproliferation, told the hearing that Russian arms deliveries have become “probably more significant than what Iran provides in terms of military assistance.”
He said Russia is losing credibility in the Arab world and around the Middle East by giving its “unswerving support to the Syrian regime.”
etc
http://en.ria.ru/world/20131102/184481490/Russian-Boosting-Arms-Shipments-to-Syria–US-Officials.html
that last line needs some interpretation as ‘arab world’ like ‘international community’ usually refers to a few elite politicians, in this case the GCC power elite

You’re right. In this case “Arab World” means a few decadent Gulf potentates.
To the masses of the Arab people, on the other hand, the Russians have established the most credibility in the region since they sent MiGs to protect Egypt civilians from being killed by Israeli bombers in the 1970s.

Apart from all the other Yankee dopiness, Pakistan seems to be taking a very dim view of the recent drone strike which killed the Taliban leader with whom the Pakistan Govt was planning to negotiate a truce or ‘arrangement.’
Paki’s PM has described the (typically cowardly) assassination as an act of “deliberate sabotage”and raised the question of Sovereignty.
Imran Khan has urged the Govt to end all cooperation with the US, including Paki supply (and escape) routes.

http://northeastindiadiary.blogspot.com
so is it the usual pot, kettle bs ?
much more, i’d say its another *robber crying robbery* diatribe, a syndrome so prevalent in the democrazies !
tibet, xinjiang etc, r legacies of the interactions [2] between the hans n the
normadic hordes from the north, thousands of yrs ago, during which china was
tormented by the huns, mongolians, manchus, turks….even tibetans at one time.
in any case, that was during the warring era , thousands of yrs back.
whereas india’s land grabs were perpetrated in the 21 century, an era of
supposedly peaceful coexistence, human rights n all that jazz !
bottom line,
the above is not to excuse china’s rule in tibet, xinjiang.
im just pointing out a simple fact,
indians , muricuns, etc have no business pointing their fingers at china
about tibet, etc, about anything. !
coz china looks like angel compared to these democrazies !
*
china’s minorities , especially the tibetans, enjoy preferential treatment over the
hans, like free education, tax free, exemption from one child rule, heavily
subsidised economy, the lot !
where else can u find such priorities for the minorities…in nagaland, assam,
kashmir, kurdistan, west papua, aceh, ?
im not holding my breath !
which begs the question,
why r there so much unrest in tibet, xinjiang, the two territories which r hogging
the headlines, whereas the going ons in india’s *disturbed area* [1] r , for all
practical purposes, non existence in the western msm ?

The real reason behind russian intervention in syria

Brakes, there is a nonsequitur in the story you linked there. It says:

The project, called I Have Come to Save the World, is run by the London-based St Paul and St George Foundation, which al-Ghadban directs. It was previously named the Gavrilov Foundation, after a Russian businessman, Yuri Gavrilov. Documents filed with Britain’s Charity Commission describe it as supporting “deserving projects in the field of science and animal welfare” in England and Russia, but the commission’s accounts show it spent less than STG250 ($A426) in the last four years. Al-Ghadban said most of the financing came from private donors, but did not supply further details. Russians have been a driving force behind the project – not surprising given that the Kremlin is embattled Assad’s chief ally, and the Orthodox churches in Russia and Syria have close ties. Al-Ghadban, who spoke from Moscow, is Syrian-Russian and lives in both countries.

This is a normal example of the Daily Torygraph, blaming communists, ex-communists, or putinite authoritarians anyway, for all evildoing in the otherwise virtuous western-capitalist-dominated cosmosphere. But given what they tell us about Gavrilov, he doesn’t sound like a Kremlin stooge at all.

from al Ahram;
“…Dozens of armed groups are fighting in Syria today, presumably aiming to bring down the regime led by President Bashar Al-Assad which has ruled the country with an iron fist for nearly four decades.
Some of these groups are secular, and some are moderate Islamists whose agenda is known and who usually fight in the ranks of the Free Syrian Army (FSA).
However, others, such as the Nusra Front and the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS), are known affiliates of Al-Qaeda. Presumably, these groups see themselves as fighting for a worldwide jihad, but their agenda in Syria is so bewildering that some now suspect them of taking sides with the regime….”

Agree, Rowan. The article, for the most part, seemed to be a pout that the MB have been superseded by jihadists.

all these hullabaloo about huawei’s security risk,
turns out that the real enemy is from within hehehe…
http://www.wsws.org/en/articles/2013/11/05/pers-n05.html
*Australia’s centrality was underscored last week when Prime Minister Tony Abbott overruled senior ministers to uphold a ban on any involvement of the Chinese telecommunications giant Huawei in the country’s national broadband network (NBN). The decision to block Huawei on “security grounds,” originally taken by the previous Labor government on the advice of the Australian intelligence agencies, was driven by concerns that the NSA could not have the same easy access to Internet cables and equipment that it enjoys with American companies such as Cisco.*

Posted by: denk | Nov 5 2013 16:12 utc | 65

So what they’re saying is that the problem with Huawei is that it isn’t enough of a security risk, it’s too secure. That certainly is ironic.

china has never been a threat to australia, yet the aussies r not only spying on their biggest customers, that gillard regime looks fully ready to follow the muricuns into confrontation with china, rendering australia a legit target if war break out !
thats another reason i want to fukusa , the fukusans r all the same, they like ur money but they want to screw u at the same time. !
*fukusa big business wants it both ways with China. Boeing wants to sell its planes there. Intel wants it to buy computer chips. Philip Morris wants to market its cigarettes. But they all want to diminish China as a world power, tear pieces off if they can, and make sure that China’s modernization does not strengthen its socialist state property. It’s the job of President [fill in the blank] and the foreign policy establishment to facilitate commercial relations with China while also letting the Pentagon, the CIA, and the other agencies of imperialist aggression do their thing*

why americans despise their own govt:
Zionist control of US congress:
‘As the US and the 5 other countries attempt to negotiate with Iran , they face enormous obstacles overcoming Israel ’s power over the US Congress. Over past decades Israel ’s agents have bought the loyalties of the vast majority of Congress people, training them to recognize and obey the whistles, signals and script from the war mongers in Tel Aviv.
This ‘Axis of War’, has inflicted enormous damage on the world resulting in the deaths of millions of victims of US wars in the Middle East, Southwest Asia and North Africa . The gross corruption and widely recognized bankruptcy of the US legislative system is due to its slavish submission to a foreign power. What remains in Washington is a debased vassal state despised by its own citizens. If the ZPC controlled Congress succeeds once again in destroying the negotiations between the US and Iran via new war-like resolutions, we, the American people, will have to pay an enormous price in lives and treasure. ‘

DM,
maybe it was my links. Do you know exactly what triggers it?
Is it a long link itself or putting the link as the title (>link to ACLU<) or what? If you or anyone else knows, let me know so I can avoid it in the future. It does get pretty annoying after a long thread.

current meme has it that ph is being forced by an *assertive* [4]china into uncle sham’s waiting arm, but hey, uncle wasnt too keen to get embroiled in the asians quarrel ! [cough, cough]
see, all that cowboy wants is to serenade to his love all day.
but the reluctant hero got an urgent msg, the town folks needs him pronto!
he gave a deep sigh, put away his guitar, dust off his beloved rifle, gotta ride into town to deal with another crooked rancher.
our hero muttered to himself, ok, just this one last time. !
sounds familiar ?
thats what uncle want us to believe, he’s being *dragged* into another conflict, screaming n kicking, ala ….kosovo, libya, syria !
but for those who has been paying attention ,meaning me, this is pure bs.
there was no war on the eastern front before uncle sham gate crashed the asian party.
the territory issues were put on back burner while trade n talk flourished, it was biz as usual except for some occasional squabbles.
as recent as 2010, the philippinos were telling uncle sham to fuck off, *we r doing fine by ourself, thank you very much * [1]
then that imperial envoy clinton descended on manila like a ton of bricks , had a *pep talk* with aquino. overnite, the ph prez’s altitude turned 180 from conciliation to confrontation. !
what gives ?
one could only surmise, did clinton say something like ….
*do u wanna be with me , or…..gadaffi * ? [2]
hmm, take a look at that pic [3]
guess who’s the one looking like being *dragged crying n kicking* to the table ?
somehow i’ve this feeling the philippino fm didnt exactly looks like the one running the show !

*Nearly 600 kilometers southwest of the Philippine capital, workers are building an access road to link the mainland of Luzon to Oyster Bay on the island province of Palawan. The pristine island is a major tourist destination, but the project is not aimed at luring foreign travelers, rather to transform the bay into what officials are referring to as a “mini Subic”. *

yet another paradise turned into an muricun outpost.
do i need more reason to fukus ?
im sure they aint building these mega bases all around china just for the fun of it eh ?
someone chided china for its *diplomatic blunder*, pushing ph, myanmar to choose the evil empire as benefitor.
really ?
u dont *choose* ur rapist, the sob impose himself on u ! [1]
as for myanmar, more like the generals r scared shitless by the gadaffi death porn , im sure mdm dowager clinton’s subsequent visit *helped* to make up their mind.
[u wanna be with me, or gadaffi ?] [2]
i’d say this is a very educated guess, dunno why atimes deleted it ?
