Syria: Assad Attacks Erdogan
Each time the Syrian opposition meets to show a united face it turns out to be less united than ever. Yesterday's meeting even included fist fights and flying shoes.
With each such stunts the opposition will lose outside support. That is good for Syria.
Meanwhile Bashar Assad, in an interview with the Turkish daily Cumhurieyt, started a full attack on Erdogan. In the first part of the interview he emphasized friendship with the Turkish people. In the second part he accuses Erdogan of having a "sectarian mentality" and of being merely a stooge for the United States-Israel-Gulf axis:
President al-Assad: […] Today, Erdogan is shedding the tears of hypocrites for the Syrian people. Why hasn’t he cried for those killed in some Gulf countries, although they are innocent, peaceful and unarmed? Why isn’t he speaking about democracy in some Gulf countries?
Journalist: Which country?
President al-Assad: Qatar, for instance. Why didn’t he do anything after the Marmara ship incident except shouting? Why did he challenge Israel, and then suddenly agreed to deploy the missile shield in Turkey? Did he deploy it in order to protect Turkey from the attack of a hostile country? Did America build these bases in order to protect itself against this region? Which country in the region has the capability to threaten America? No country. So, the answer is that he deployed it to protect Israel. These circumstances revealed Erdogan’s reality, no more, no less. Erdogan hasn’t changed. What has changed is the way the people of the region look at him. He has failed on the Arab arena. He no longer exists, neither him nor his credibility.

This, and the sorry state of the opposition, will increase the pressure on Erdogan to change course and to stop the support of the opposition. That will not happen immediately. But when the Syrian army has pushed the insurgents back into the Turkish border zone the question of further escalation or folding will have to be answered by Erdogan. My bet is that he will fold.
Prove a negative why wasn’t Assange murdered? OR Say you loathe and disrespect amerikan imperialism and its bastard child the cia, yet credit them with god-like omnipotence on all things that happen which doesn’t suit your personal political agenda.
I wonder how many of these ‘contributors’ ever set foot outside their home and if they have ever interacted with ‘intelligence’ or security’ services? Not many or they would quickly be disabused about intelligence organisational competence.
Sure there are a few smart careerists contained within these organisations, though the vast majority of them have the insight of a mr plod, and even worse the organisational structures, long protected by both halves of the neo-liberal oligarchy, rewards ‘agents’ with promotion for time served in a way that other government funded organisations have not been allowed to enjoy since the 1970’s.
So what? Well it means that these mythical three letter alphabet soup agencies are overstaffed and incompetent and they make more mistakes than they ever ‘kick goals’.
And once one understands that one also comes to see that the huge multi-tentacled conspiracies that some of the peeps on this board spend their lives dreaming up, albeit with nothing more than an over-fed paranoia and access to self selected ‘facts’ only exist in the minds of the paranoid fantasiser.
Assange probably wasn’t killed because, believe it or not, some politician or senior intelligence official concluded that may not have played well in the minds of joe citizen. Sure they probably regret it now but that’s how things can pan out when yer human. I’m sure some assholes would have argued for liquidation, but I imagine ‘wiser’ heads may have prevailed so the decison was made to discredit him instead. Trouble was that meant getting Sweden and their poorly understood justice system and england and its equally arcane but completely different legal system, in sync – the result has been what it is. If it had worked, discrediting Assange would have been a much more effective option. Which is why I suspect the Syria docu dump may have that as an adjunct.
After 911 the amerikans flew around the world beating up pols and demanding a hassle free comprehensive anti-terror law and improved extradition rules. How do I know this? Cause I remember when they came here. GO and check it out for where you live & likely you’ll see it happened. The englanders who jumped in with glee thanks to the bliar, have been haemmoraging citizens, fuckers of all sorts and sizes dragged off to amerika on dodgy trumped up charges most of which have nothing to do with terror, ever since they signed up. That may have given the englander mob pause about sending assange straight there, since englanders have been getting vocal about extraditions of peeps a lot less sympathetic than assange long before WL became a problem.
Where I live the law changes have been more problematic; proportional representation has caused an anomoly; that is the neo-lib agenda hasn’t managed to construct a water tight duopoly as they have in most first past the post ‘democracies’ along with some more established & corrupted PR nations.
So the laws here weren’t as watertight as amerika would have liked. There has been one attempted prosecution under anti-terror law and it didn’t end well for the state.
As for the extradition thing, well a few changes were made after some big time Chinese smack dealer who retired here in the noughties was unable to be extradited to amerika for sending a few tonnes of heroin there in the 90’s, but it is still a fraught process for the unwary. Extradition is possible but requires a well co-ordinated effort. I am talking about what goes on where I live because that is what I am most familiar with up close tho it is likely that the empire has problems in many other states in very different ways.
They can get what they want if they are smart enough to go about it the right way. Guess what? . . . they aren’t that smart. Not just the local dingbats – the empire’s pro-consuls are frequently dimmer than an environmentally sound light fitting.
Right now in Aotearoa we have a bloke who the FBI wanted destroyed because he owned Megaupload, the preferred file sharing site for a large slice of the world’s ‘retail’ media downloaders.
The feds spent well over a year putting the case together here, buying local pols, and indoctrinating law enforcement & wording up judges. The number 1 defendant, a bloke by the name of Kim Dotcom (somehow I guess he wasn’t born with that name) migrated here from germany a few years back.
We checked him out when he arrived because he was throwing money at assorted pols some of whom I prefer to see struggling for money. The bloke seemed alright he is just a greedhead with no distinct political agenda and is an equal opportunity politician purchaser.
Anyway despite millions of US dollars of resources and all the weight of hollywood being placed on the whitehouse to in turn lean on the neo-liberal pricks who run this joint, the case is falling apart.
Dotcom himself is having a grand old time exposing government MP’s who took money from him the courts are likely now under pressure from the Government to make the whole thing go away hence the ruling.
Dotcom has taken to using social media to ‘speak’ directly to citizens and it is working, he has been adopted by the same dropkicks who were calling him a gangster a couple months back. The govt ,already in the shit over its egregious & corrupt business dealings, is going down the gurgler fast and they are desperate to get out from the shit sandwich they made putting themselves in the middle between washington bullies and the self made bully Dotcom.
My guess is that by the time the thing gets to court in amerika a deal will have most of the money (less a mob of lawyers’ big bung) returned, Dotcom wearing a minor charge, so everyone will claim a victory.
The amerikan homeland security mob could have got the lot if they had spent just a bit of time sussing out the landscape but as they do everywhere, they went in boots and all and fucked up big time. Hubris. (where have I seen that b4?)
The same sort of arrogant fuck up is likely to have happened with Assange.
The mistake so many have been making about wikileaks is imagining it was ‘on the side of the left’ or the right or any political agendas.
I dunno about others but I had been using the site for a long time before the amerikan stuff got released and WL has always just published whatever they get as soon as veracity has been established. (this is a skill many of us here would profit from dev eloping)
Probably intelligence agencies have tried to use WL for some things, although, since it didn’t have a huge readership before the helicopter vid, it is difficult to believe it was a major vector for intelligence agencies.
Some of you peeps are like children. WL didn’t publish exactly what you wanted them to, so therefore they must be ‘baddies’ in the pay of intelligence or elites. The same old binary bullshit. If that is black and i don’t like it I must be white, and everything I don’t like must be black. For fucks sake grow up.
Step out yer door and get some experience of humans, how they interact. Recognise one of the reasons superstitious types invented a religion where their mythical god is perfect and omnipotent, is because no human or human construct has ever had those qualities.
Making a perfect god seemed like a good solution to the age old question “what would you know about it then?”
You dingbats can construct the same imaginary device and call it ‘the cia’ or ‘amerikan intelligence’ or even ‘the elite conspiracy’ but you won’t convince me or for that matter anyone else with half a brain that such perfection exists outside of human delusion.
These organisations screw the pooch every day, so accusing a peep of being one of them because he hasn’t been murdered by them is facile beyond words. ‘Thinkers’ like that make the tasks these spooks attempt easier. This sort of witless wittering enables exactly what you all claim to oppose.
Since it is impossible to conceive that any of you could separate your ego from your intellect long enough to objectively consider what I have written, I am gonna stop with the discussion from my side.
Life calls, there are real people outside this cyber space who are being fucked over by the machine, I prefer to put most energy there.
