U.S. Nearer To War On Syria

The Obama administration seems to be slowly moving to McCain's position on Syria. Bomb, bomb, bomb Iran Syria.

Panetta Says U.S. Weighs Military Action on Syria

Defense Secretary Leon Panetta said the U.S. is reviewing potential military action to ease the crisis in Syria even as he cautioned that the opposition and international support aren’t unified enough to intervene now.

We see dumb arguments like A Post-Assad Syria Might Not Be as Bad as We Think. The same was of course said of Iraq without Saddam and Libya without Gaddafi. Both are still in bloody civil wars, often with more dead per day than on any recent day in Syria.

A recent AFP report finds Jihadi fighters from Libya, Lebanon, Iraq and Pakistan on the side of the Syrian rebels. Some demonstrators in Syria are using the AlQaeda flag.

With that and the mix of various religious sects in Syria the result of a war on Syria is sure to be worse than any supporter of such a war might think.

Anyone recognize the doctor being treated in Lebanaon, an escapee from Baba Amr per the report, in the CBS vide (from #29 above)? Is he one of the usual players in the videos? Difficult to tell given the scarf around his face, but do eyebrows, hairline help?
Felix @ 94 — I don’t recall Conyer that well, but will look.

The US military complex keep busy nomatterwhat, if there is no conflict, invent one. If there suddenly was peace, what about everybody working in weapons and security? That would be a massive employment-crisis.
So obviously there are huge economical incentives for constantly selling war, the news are advertisment for military and weapons.

As usual, on BBC, when UN Humanitarian Affairs Chief Baroness Valerie Amos was asked if the government allowed her to go into Homs, she surprised him by saying “I tried to get into Baba Amr, but the rebels wouldn’t allow me access.”

I read this article on BBC:

Syria crisis: Assad issues ‘terrorism’ vow to Annan
Syrian President Bashar al-Assad has told visiting UN-Arab League envoy Kofi Annan that no political dialogue can succeed in his country while “armed terrorist groups” are operating.
Mr Assad said Syria would back “any honest effort to find a solution”.
The UN said Mr Annan’s task was to call for an immediate ceasefire by the army and the opposition.

And then I came across this brilliant comment on the Syrian uprising:

What is the wests obsession with calling for armed uprising in these countries? If we saw such an uprising here in the west would our governments act any differently? If you don`t want it in the west don`t encourage it elsewhere. It`s totally irresponsible.

Maybe the message is getting thru.

On the one-year anniversary of the Syrian uprising, there are massive tens-of thousands of protesters demonstrating for the support of Assad, across the country.
Seems Assad is winning the media-war after all.

Syria bombed to disrupt Kofi Annan’s attempt at a political solution

“The two attacks… aim to disrupt Annan’s mission and to foil international efforts to find a political solution to the crisis,” it said, referring to UN-Arab League peace envoy Kofi Annan.
The twin blasts, apparent car bombings, killed 27 people and wounded 140 others in the heart of Syria’s capital on Saturday, the interior ministry said, blaming “terrorists” for the attacks near police and air force headquarters.
Ath-Thawra, another official daily, pointed the finger at Qatar and Saudi Arabia which have called for rebels fighting the regime of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad to be armed.
