Moon of Alabama Brecht quote
November 16, 2008
Olmert The Liar

Interim Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert accused the Islamist Hamas movement on Sunday of "shattering" the Gaza truce after two rockets hit Israel, prompting an air strike which killed four Palestinian militants.

"The responsibility for the shattering of the calm and the creation of a situation of prolonged and repeated violence in the south of the
country is entirely on Hamas and the other terror groups in Gaza,"
Olmert told ministers.
Israel accuses Hamas of ‘shattering’ Gaza truce

The truce was broken by Israel twelve days ago. As the Guardian reported on November 5:

A four-month ceasefire between Israel and Palestinian militants in Gaza was in jeopardy today after Israeli troops killed six Hamas gunmen in a raid into the territory.

Hamas responded by firing a wave of rockets into southern Israel, although no one was injured.

Since then Palestinian rockets have lightly injured two Israelis, the Israeli military has killed 17 people in Gaza and blocked any transfer of oil and food into the strip. The sole power-plant in Gaza can not operate and people go hungry.

Olmert is again lying to justify the slow suffocating of the people in the big concentration camp that Gaza has become.

Comments

The army said that the four were preparing to fire rockets at Israel, and that the raid followed two hits which caused neither casualties nor damage.
i recall when israel broke another ceasefire by murdering the picnicing family on the beach. that was supposedly because they misfired on fighters preparing to fire, wasn’t it. a preemptive justification.

Murder, bloddy murder. No food for the people, no fuel for the people, no medication. Warsaw ghetto revisited, or shall I say inversed. I can’t believe this is happening in my life time and there is fu.k all I can do about it. I better get my believer fixed.
Ahmadinejad was damned right when he said that Israel is a product created by the European Holocaust, and the Palestinians who had nothing to do with it have to pay the price. Israel should be removed (rubbed out) from the ME map and redrawn somewhere between Germany and Austria.
The suffering in Palestine and beyond, caused by the insertion of a fantasy state on the ME map, the war crimes committed daily by the Israeli Oppression Force, how much longer can that go on before we collectively hold them accountable?

UN: end the ‘inhuman’ blockade of Gaza

the civilian population of Gaza has been “intentionally reduced to a state of abject destitution” with the tacit complicity or, in our case, the active participation of the entire international community.

Never will I understand the silence from Bush, Brown and Blair, and the entire Quartet including the UN leaders. And it is not hard to predict that Obama will follow the sheep.

It is sickening especially when I remember how they bombarded my country Serbia for ” humanitarian reasons”…who ever believed in their humanity is donkey…

In 2006 letter to Bush, Haniyeh offered compromise with Israel

A few months after Hamas’ 2006 election victory, leader Ismail Haniyeh tried to start a dialogue with U.S. President George W. Bush.
Haaretz has obtained a written message from Haniyeh sent to Bush via an American professor who met with Haniyeh in the Gaza Strip. Haniyeh asked Bush to lift the boycott of the Hamas government and pressure Israel to maintain stability in the region.
On June 6, 2006, Haniyeh met Dr. Jerome Segal of the University of Maryland in the Gaza Strip.

At the end of the meeting, Haniyeh dictated a short message he asked Segal to transmit to President Bush. Haniyeh spoke Arabic and Youssuf translated his words into English. Segal took down the letter in his notebook and Haniyeh and Youssuf both signed it.
Haniyeh wrote in the missive, “We are an elected government which came through a democratic process.”
In the second paragraph, Haniyeh laid out the political platform he maintains to this day. “We are so concerned about stability and security in the area that we don’t mind having a Palestinian state in the 1967 borders and offering a truce for many years,” he wrote.
Haniyeh called on Bush to launch a dialogue with the Hamas government.

Of course Bush did not respond …

The US gov’t was overthrown on November 22, 1963, we haven’t had democracy here since. Don’t expect the US to do anything humanitarian in nature or democratic in nature. A Capitalist Republic follows the banks’ and corporations’ directives not those of the populace.

In my email today arrived a fact sheet from Save the Children. A few of the wrenching, mind-numbing, unbearable statistics in it include:
Poverty
* 80% of Gaza’s population relies on food aid and direct assistance [NOTE: This was just cut off last week as Israel suspended all deliveries into Gaza, including the UN’s food supply for 750,000 people!!!!!!!!!] and 66.7% of households in Gaza are in deep poverty – living on less than $474 a month.
* In a report released in Sept 2008, in Gaza nearly 66% of earned income is spent on food; in the West Bank, about 56% of earned income is spent on food.
Health
* In Gaza, 50,000 children are malnourished, 70% have a vitamin A deficiency and close to half of children under age two are anemic.
* As of May 2008, 45% of pregnant women in Gaza and 31% in the East Bank are anemic.
* In mental health surveys, 86% of respondents reported trouble sleeping, 77% reported worsening family relations and 72% reported heightened tension in children.
Protection (i.e., Lack Thereof)
* In a 2008 Gaza study, 28.2% of children surveyed had witnessed the demolition of a friend’s home and 18.5% had witnessed the demolition of their own home.
* During the 2007-2008 school year, 256 UNRWA school days [in the West Bank and Gaza] were disrupted due to Israeli military operations and since January 2008, 21 UNRWA students and three teachers were killed during Israeli military operations.
* More children died because of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict during the first half od 2008 than in all of 2007.
Education
* In East Jerusalem (!!!), 9,000 Palestinian children do not attend school because there are not enough public classrooms to accommodate all of them and they cannot afford private schooling.
* According to a June 2008 report, in East Jerusalem, the post-secondary school dropout rate is approximately 50%.
* During 2008, in grades four through nine of GAZA’s UNRWA schools, Arabic failure rates were at 40% and English and Mathematics failure rates were between 50% and 60%.

Olmert and crew already sunk their teeth into Obama. Mossad blatantly owns Obama (he picked Rahm Emanuel, the son of a terrorist). Obama will probably let Mossad slide on their 9/11 involvement and Obama will continue their wars. So who won? Israel did, as always.

Mondoweiss – Mearsheimer Sees Signs of Glasnost in Israel Lobby
I read it three times, and I can’t say I understand where the optimism is coming from. But the co-author of The Israel Lobby and U.S. Foreign Policy probably knows what he is talking about.

Israel has never honored any agreement with an Arab state or organization; including the peace treaty with Egypt and Jordan.
The treaty with Egypt was violated with Military operation in Gaza borders, and Rafah, this areas should be demiliterized according to the treaty. Israel can’t have an army there.
The treaty with Jordan is not better, it was violated with the attempted assassination of Khaled Mashal in Amman, and one of the attackers took refuge in the Israeli embassy.

@9,
if the USA incursion into Iraq was to aid the Zionist agenda, it was a huge failure. Likewise the recent IDF invasion of South Lebanon. And now the financial meltdown in the West, the result of which leaves the USA no choice but to re-think empire and then to retreat. If there is any humanity or morality left in this world, the people of Gaza will be saved from the madmen of Israel, who have already well distinguished themselves as the equal of the most pathological ever in history

This is the worst-
Israelis kidnap 10 children in WB
I hope this is just propaganda and I am just being gullible to believe it. It is difficult to believe any person/group could be so depraved. Maybe kidnapping these children is an effort to stir up trouble hoping/knowing the Palestinians will react.

You forgot the reason. As per that same article:
The Israeli military said the target of the raid was a tunnel that they said Hamas was planning to use to capture Israeli soldiers positioned on the border fence 250m away. Four Israeli soldiers were injured in the operation, two moderately and two lightly, the military said.
One Hamas gunman was killed and Palestinians launched a volley of mortars at the Israeli military. An Israeli air strike then killed five more Hamas fighters. In response, Hamas launched 35 rockets into southern Israel, one reaching the city of Ashkelon.
“This was a pinpoint operation intended to prevent an immediate threat,” the Israeli military said in a statement. “There is no intention to disrupt the ceasefire, rather the purpose of the operation was to remove an immediate and dangerous threat posted by the Hamas terror organisation.”

The terrorists can’t have it both ways- and they won’t.

Peacenow,
As far as I can tell, this forum, like any civilised forum, appreciates diversity and values a range of opinions. If you want to engage people in discussions about the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, and in doing so wish to justify as legitimate the conduct of one side or another, please do so, but refrain from posting links to violent and hate-filled videos.
I’m sure that you yourself would admit, too, that many similarly violent and hate-filled videos involving unwarranted Israeli agression could be easily found on the Internet and posted here, on this website. It’s important to always remember that just because you can, doesn’t mean that you should, however: the types of videos you posted serve only to further inflame hatred between the two sides.
If, as you your name suggests, you are seriously interested in peace, try and engage with your other instead of spreading malicious videos.

@Peace Now go and troll somewhere else. If you bother to search the archives here or any other halfway objective newsource you will find many many stories of the zionist colonists telling any lie to excuse their genocidal attacks on the people of Palestine. Who incidentally are freedom fighters not terrorists. The terrorists are the same as they have always been – the irgun amd stern murderers who try to assume the mantle of legitimacy by calling their bands of rapists and killers a ‘defence force’. So quoting unsourced IDF allegations carries no weight here.
If you truly do want peace now, tell your zionist mates to back off their invasion of the sovereign lands of Palestine and go back to where they came from. That or learn to respect the indigenous inhabitants of the the land they are colonising with rape and murder.
This is not a debate. There will be no further response from me on this as I have no interest in listening to the tedious repetion of blatant lies and rationalisation to justify murder. The statistics are simple – far more Palestinian families have been slaughtered by the corrupt and brutal israeli regime than zionist invaders killed by the Palestinian freedom fighters. The Palestinains would never lower themselves to the level of those who masterminded Sabra and Shatilla yet you like so many other charlatans and fools try to maintain the fiction that it is the Palestinian people who are the ‘baddies’.
Right now the leaderless Israeli government (yet another PM caught stealing)is trying to hush up the embarrassing fact that this year more israelis have been blown up by other israelis during gang warfare between rival criminal outfits than the Palestinian Freedom Fighters have killed.
These thugs and gangsters who have murdered close to two million Palestinian people and driven at least 6 million out as refugees by blowing up their houses, raping women and plowing salt in the soil of Palestinian farms,, call the Palestinian defenders terrorists, yet even when the Israelis ‘win’ they don’t stop killing they turn their guns upon each other and kill other zionists.
What a truly corrupt mob of obese and ignorant thugs have resulted from the greedheads who imagined that communal farming could prosper on stolen land.
Time will deliver the inevitable justice to the people of palestine. Then we will see if the amerikan war criminals who have been propping up this tyranny, subsidising the apartheid state of Israel really care for the zionists or were just using them. Will they allow all the zionist refugees into amerika or will they do as they did with their South Vietnamese co-criminals and only allow in a few tokens, leaving the rest of the invaders to suffer the wrath of their former victims?
