“Kuwait is not a place that harms its neighbours … and would not allow Kuwaiti land to be used to assault any country,” the official KUNA news agency quoted him as saying.

Thanks to annie for the link at 77. “Institutional dissent” from the party line is welcome as would be a formalization of the
groupings given in that link ( i.e., the Association of Army Veterans who doubt the official 9/11 conspiracy theory, etc. Such institutional opposition already exists with regard to the war in Iraq, as illustrated, for example, by the anti-war West Point grads web site. The hope, of course, is to change the received meme from “wacko loner conspiracy theorists” to that of “concerned and thoughtful colleagues”, but it remains just that, a probably forlorn hope.

Our resident Marxists may find this German view an indication of the “inherent contradictions” in
the neocon program for war on Iran. Parenthetically, it drives me to distraction to see that such serious analysts as Pat Lang view an attack on Iran as inevitable. Such a conclusion implicitly discounts any anti-war movement as impotent, counting it as sure to be out-maneuvered and overpowered by the superior political, financial, and mediatic resources of the war party. I can not, alas, disagree with that analysis, but neither can I acquiesce to its consequences.

b real@98Hence it is not surprising that there has been no concerted activist challenge to U.S. support for Ethiopia’s war in Somalia, but such a challenge is urgently required.
interesting contrast to the massive outcry from NGO’s/activists over Darfur in comparison to whats happening in the Ogaden & Somalia.
also, the activist & NGO community forfeit perhaps their most relevant, purposeful & inspiring value-component by consistently failing to support home-grown political/diplomatic intitiatives in Africa. For example — the peace-keeping initiatives for Darfur put forth by the AU. The NGO/activist community made little or no effort to try to help promote such initiatives. And the same NGO’s/activists will literally fall over each other to assocciate with alternative efforts put forth by the UN or EU.
in fact, there is no shortage of highly competent & motivated human resources amongst Africans. There never has been. Like anywhere else, it may take some effort to find them. But for some strange reason, they are invisible to some people, unless they are employees or servants. Obviously, the Africans are a hopeless, helpless bunch. They need us to save them.
