On the right side of the mainscreen there is now a link labeled Blogroll and Links with a page of those blogs and news outlets I like to read regulary. Let me know what to I probably should add or drop. Selfish as I am, I only want to keep links there that I use on a regular basis.

Thanks, bernhard, for your thoughts. Nadler has us all scratching our heads. He is a guy who has always done the right thing with his votes. He has always been concerned about civil liberties, was against the “war” from the beginning – came and did the chelsea stand up against the war one very cold february night, but in this case he has clearly decided against taking the moral stand. No one can understand it. But we must, and we must change it, he is key to this process. He also is the rep we count on to be Jerry Nadler, and Jerry Nadler would be supporting immpeachment now, not later.

conchita,
You know that I am far more cynical than you about political processes, so I won’t rehash that. Bernhard has some good advice. Cockburn over at Counterpunch thinks impeachment is just a waste of time. I don’t necessarily believe that, but I do believe that all, OK, 99% of politicians at the congresscritter level are owned by money interests. When has Nadler ever done the right thing about Palestine? When has he ever called for closing down the military-industrial complex? Has he called for more stringent regulations on Wall Street?
I guess what I’m saying is if you really want to influence someone, find out where he gets his money, his campaign funds. If any of those come from groups who are not in favor of impeachment, then you will have to find a way to replace that money, or build such a big and angry constituency that he dare not cross you. Also, it is always cheaper to buy a meaningless losing vote, than a deciding vote.
Sorry for the cold water. I do support what you are doing, and your deep commitment; I just cringe sometimes at your ingenuousness. You don’t get to Nadler’s level without being a master Poker player.
Tell Nadler that your coalition absolutely will not support a Democrat this time around unless they support the impeachment bill. Discuss the erosion (um, I mean absolute repeal) of our rights and the Democratic complicity in giving Bush dictatorial power. Tell him that you absolutely are not falling for the lesser evil varmint this time around. Tell him which alternative party you do plan to support instead of the Democrats. (This works best in tight races, which I doubt Nadler is in.) Tell him how big the coalition you represent is, and how many votes he will lose.
Politicians are scum, even the “good guys.” You can’t win with burnished logic or finely crafted arguments, you have to grab their crotch hard and twist.
Good luck.

P.S. Build coalitions of coalitions of existing groups who sign on to your groups goals to increase your numbers exponentially! Read Alinsky every night religiously, like he was your Bible. Read every other activist and organizing book out there. There IS power in numbers: if you have the numbers, you have the power.
