Coercion by Death Threats = Torture

What did he know about Sunni insurgents living in the area, asked Staff Sgt. Kenneth Braxton, who’s from Philadelphia. Nothing, the man said. Braxton said he knew the man was lying because of the way he moved his eyes. The sergeant tore an American flag Velcro patch from his sleeve and told the Iraqi to hold it to his chest. Then another soldier used a digital camera to take a picture of the man.

"So we’ve got a picture of you holding an American flag now," Braxton said. He told the man that if he didn’t cooperate, the photo would be posted around the neighborhood.

I watched CNN’s The Anvil of God today about America’s, and I quote, “no greater test than the Battle of Fallujah”. The World’s undisputed superpower in one corner versus a city in a Third World country in the other corner painted as “efforts that deserve honor and respect and consideration”. No mention of the liberal use of Willy Pete but they make a point to mention “their twisted version of Islam”. It’s enough to make you puke.
It’s like watching a boxing match between George Foreman in his prime against a featherwieght and calling it the fight of the year. The fact that the story is framed around the good Christians battling the evil Islamists is particularly disgusting as if Jesus himself would approve of this. The show itself doesn’t revile me so much as it is a news special brought to you by the “liberal media”. Evan as it is acknowledged that America should not have invaded Iraq in the first place they still peddle this crap on their news channel as some grand heroic feat.
The most powerful military the planet has ever seen devastated a Third World city. Ain’t it grand? Hail to the great new America, champion of Crusaders everywhere. Fighter jets, tanks, bradleys, artillary, javalins, body armour and white phosphorous bombs against AK47s and RPGs. How frigging glorious. And they give out medals for this.

And another thing I’m so sick of American newscasters calling Iraq a war when in fact it is an occupation. It is a modern army against poorly equipped peasants. What kind of moron can believe this is a war.

Maliki the uniter:
BAGHDAD (AP) — Iraq’s Shiite prime minister said Friday hard-line Sunni clerics outside Iraq share the blame for this week’s bloodshed at a Shiite religious festival in Karbala because they issued religious decrees terming Shiites heretics.
Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki did not spell out how comments by Sunni clerics – presumed to be mostly from Saudi Arabia – could have provoked fierce battles last Tuesday among rival Shiite militias, which claimed up to 51 lives.

First he went to Karbala and blamed it on Saddam then now it’s Sunni clerics?
We don’t need any proof or evidence because these establishments … issued fatwas (religious edicts) calling for the destruction of the shrines of Imam Hussein and Abbas,” al-Maliki told reporters.

Maliki don’t need no stinking proof he just needs Americans driving over IEDs protecting him. With backers like Bush and Ahmadinejad he can say anything he wants.

US ambassador to meet Iraqi leaders — source

IRBIL, Aug 31 (KUNA) — US Ambassador to Iraq Ryan Crocker will hold a series of meetings Friday with Iraqi leaders in the northern resort of Dukan.
A Kurdish source told KUNA that Crocker, who arrived in the northern city of Sulaimaniya earlier today, will hold extensive discussions on the situation in the country.
The meetings will be attended by President Jalal Talabani, head of the Iraqi List Iyad Allawi, and Iraqi Kurdistan region’s premier Nechirvan Barzani, according to the source.

b #5, check out badger
It appears Tareq al-Hashemi, leader of the Islamic Party of Iraq and vice-president of the republic, will be another major player (along with Ayad Allawi, see prior post) in the drama of “reconciliation” ahead of the Petraeus report. Azzaman, in its Iraqi edition this morning, headlines the good news: “1500 prisoners to be released during Ramadan” (which starts this year on Sept 13 this year), specifying that these will be innocent prisoners held in American-forces prisons, and that they will be released at the rate of 50 per day.
i don’t know if i said it here before, but i would not be surprised if some of those 23000 mostly sunni prisoners the US is holding are may be used to tip the scales in a ‘change of coarse’ plan for ‘democracy’ in iraq. along w/that nyt article about scrapping the present police force, allawi being endorsed by baath leader….
check out his previous post too.
