In The Garden

In The Garden

for annie by beq

(bigger 260 kb)

b adds:

[She pulls off the petals and murmurs.]

Faust. What are you murmuring?
Margaret [half aloud]. He loves me – loves me not!
Faust. Sweet, heavenly vision!
Margaret [goes on]. Loves me – not – loves me – not-

[Plucking off the last petal with lovely joy.]

He loves me!
Faust. Yes, my child! and let this blossom’s word
Be oracle of gods to you! He loves you!
You understand that word and what it means? He loves you!

[He seizes both her hands.]

Margaret. I’m all a-tremble!
Faust. Oh, shudder not! But let this look,
Let this hand-pressure say to you
What is unspeakable:
To give one’s self up wholly and to feel
A rapture that must be eternal!
Eternal! – for its end would be despair.
No! no end! no end!

J.W. v.Goethe, Faust, Martha’s Garden

Comments

it is strange i thought last night we need a little something from anna missed, beq, annie or b & here it is
merci, vraiement
it has been a hell of a day – i have been working since this morning(& as conchita knows – i am no friend of the morning – therefore i am not what sarkozy subtly says like simon – that france belongs to those who wake early & work hard) with different groups of social workers taching them by word & deed – the necessity & the efficacity of cultural interventions
but tonight i feel a bit barren
so merci encore

Wow! Amazingly gorgeous hawt!*
*hawt: 1.In the late 1940’s and early 1950’s “hawt” was an acronym for “having a wonderful time.” It was eventually stolen by scenester fucks to mean,”sexy” or “attractive” because of the downfall of american youth.
2.Internet slang for something really hot.
3.(Adj.)Irresistably secksy. It’s like, hot multiplied by infinity. Omgsohawt~hawtness. From the urban Dictionary.

How my mind works…(the battle of good and evil…in my mind)
G: beautiful, but the end was tragic, very. so, it would be better if the last petal said the truth…
E: but truth is subjective… no?
G: the consequences are objective…
E: his love was temporary…
G: I suppose that it true..
E: her destiny was broken…
G: yikes!…lol the bargain.
E: we all make the bargains…we all are devils sometimes
Just noticed the little devil in the skin after reading the poem…lol

i have been rewatching ‘the revolution will not be televised’ about chavez & the failed u s coup against him.
it gives me heart to see the people, not as a concept, but as a living reality, making history, it is about the third time i have watched it (it is in the google video doco link annie gave) & it is moving each time
i think its for irish tv & there is innocence but knowing – tenderness but also force – & we witness the people as they are between their terrible fragily & their subtle force – it is very difficult not to love hugo chavez. there is still the loving boy in him – not like the cruel little fatsos we witness at congressional hearings – & the appareil of state is as you’d want it to be – peopled bt a multiplicity of citizens
that coup was the oligarchy’s fatal error for what it did was to concentrate both chavez, the people & the bolivarian revolution & has led to their recent victories
they own the oil, goodby world bank, goodbye imf, goodbye the vassal media
i needed to watch that tonight being a little frail myself but really fearing the times ahead. norammly i would see them as the chinese say, as interesting times – but we have witnessed the waves of stupidity & the abandonment to absolutes & i think it is better to prepare for the worst

beautiful, and then Faust in English, the first time I saw the translation of that scene. I remember … in the early 1960 … in the Hamburger Schauspielhaus … Faust played by Will Quadflieg, I think I was around fifteen or so.
Very beautiful painting. Not knowing who annie or beq is I would say it looks like a labor of love to me.

Posted by: mimi | May 5 2007 17:32 utc | 21

b, i like the garden scene.
very thoughtful of you

Posted by: annie | May 5 2007 18:02 utc | 22

Yes, Beautiful beq.
Just one question… What’s that little devil in there hidden in the flowers?
Rick

Posted by: Rick Happ | May 5 2007 19:33 utc | 23

rick- my guess is Jigoku, the japanese buddhist name for Yama.
but then my thoughts turned to la petite mort with the idea of the god of the underworld…
always love to see your work here, beq, and much needed lately.

Posted by: fauxreal | May 6 2007 3:58 utc | 24
