Vive Sandino! Viva la revolución!

Well, Alan Garcia made a comeback earlier this year in Peru, so I suppose anything’s possible. And Lula was also recently rendorsed by Brazilians, despite various dire warnings of the negative outcome if they did.
Maybe Ollie and Rog can team up w/ the govt of Iran again to “rebalance” the Nicaraguan electorate – or maybe it would be better for them to team up w/ Ortega against Iran. Who knows?
Frankly, I’m confused about the US interpretation of democracy at this point.

Ollie is no respecter of Godwin, that’s for sure:

Oliver North, the former Reagan aide who orchestrated the Iran-Contra scandal, flew here last month to visit old Contra pals and compare Ortega to Adolf Hitler.

So this is what Billmon sounds like when he still has some fight left in him. Sounds good.

US media on the march…
BBC
from wtop news:
A former Contra who is running as Ortega’s vice president, however, said the United States should give the ex-revolutionary a chance.
In an interview with The Associated Press, Jaime Morales said presidential front-runner Ortega isn’t the same man who led a war against the Washington-backed Contra rebels.
“I believe in him because he has truly matured over the years,” he said.
Morales was the spokesman for the Contras when Washington organized and funded their civil war against the Sandinistas.

same ‘story’ from CNN cache:
Ortega insists he has changed. In fact, his vice-presidential candidate was once one of his biggest enemies: Jaime Morales, who served as the spokesman for the Contras.
As Sandinista leader, Ortega seized Morales’ estate, but they reconciled after Ortega offered to pay Morales for his former home — now Ortega’s campaign headquarters.
