A country ruled by a political party that is great at winning elections but terrible at actually governing is heading for one hell of a smash up, sooner or later. The only question is how long it will take and how bad the crash will be — in the real world if not in the ballot booth.

Cheney leaked that he’ll be out blasting his shotgun tomorrow. I think he’s getting some distance from tomorrow’s hijinks. Imagine rights suppression even Cheney doesn’t want to be linked too…
They really don’t want to lose, and Finestine’s Chinese rockets are already making people twitchy. With a robocall appetizer, what’s the main course tomorrow?

The essence of the GOP is the 5% Solution — to move all of the money and power into higher, tighter, whiter and righter hands.
To do that, they need to grab a 51% solution in every election.
After that little bit of theft, they just make it up as they go. That’s all they know.

Billmon: I recommend the five iron, Chuck. Or, better yet, a tire iron.

Sorry, Bartender, but anything short of a 1 iron is being too chicken-stick conservative. Personally, the stripey head cover needs to come off. Pull out the ol’ 10 degree and give Bush and the entire ReThuglican “Ownership Society” such a monstrous *WHOCK* into orbit that they combust upon re-entry.
Then again, maybe I’m missing the point entirely — the idea of using a 5 iron or tire iron is to punish instead of impress. I can certainly see (and admire) the sadomasochism in it — unleashing such total unmitigated frustation on the Bush brigade over and over again that, after the 18-hole round, all the golfers have a 2,000 over PAR but feel really, really great about it.
Still, a 5 iron or tire iron is too conservative (not to mention too nice) of a punishment for the Bushies. In other words, it’s not sadomasochistic enough for my blood … unless we tweak the rules and make it flop shots only with that 5/Tire Iron.
Now that’s punishment!
