Pakistan foils coup plot

KARACHI – A plot to stage a coup against Pakistan’s President General Pervez Musharraf soon after his recent return from the US has been uncovered, resulting in the arrest of more than 40 people.
Most of those arrested are middle-ranking Pakistani Air Force officers, while civilian arrests include a son of a serving brigadier in the army. All of those arrested are Islamists, contacts in Rawalpindi, where the military is based, divulged to Asia Times

Chief clearing brush can’t stop all the people all the time, it’s just a matter of time before the real emergency starts, if it hasn’t already.

I believe the two biggest issues in this campaign are, one, the economy. And the economy is growing. — B43 Oct 11

COLUMBUS, Ohio, Oct. 12 (AP) — A man who could not find steady work came up with a plan to make it through the next few years until he could collect Social Security: He robbed a bank, handed the money to a guard and waited for the police.
On Wednesday, the man, Timothy J. Bowers, told a judge that a three-year prison sentence would suit him, and the judge obliged.
“At my age, the jobs available to me are minimum-wage jobs,” Mr. Bowers, who will turn 63 in a few weeks, told the judge, Angela White.
. . . “It’s not the financial plan I would choose, but it’s a financial plan,” the prosecutor, Dan Cable, said.

I believe that the situation in Iraq is, no question, tough on the American psyche . . . no question this is an issue, but so is the economy. And I believe there’ll be — I still stand by my prediction, we’ll have a Republican Speaker and a Republican leader of the Senate. And the reason I say that is because I believe the two biggest issues in this campaign are, one, the economy. And the economy is growing.
Translation: I know the Republicans will win.
there will be.. the rest is suppressed, but reads, not ‘landslide’, but ‘clear wins’ or something like that.
that is why he continues: I still stand by my predictions (i.e. what is certain, known.) That it is not Bush’s place to predict the outcome of elections passes by unnoticed. Saddam also guessed results, no problem.
How this Republican win could come about is difficult to justify, and as it has been hammered into him to stress positive points, and he introduced it – to have two points instead of one – there is then only the one left.
