As for my second link above, in the begining of the essay is the statement:

Five years after 9/11, the country still hasn't asked what motives the terrorists may have had in their attacks.

Perhaps, asking the age old 'cui bono', is not enough, perhaps, we should ask, who continues to benefit, and more importantly, why the "Building is about to blow up"...
