No make a sense…what does a prostitute (i.e. cloud) have to do w/prev. quote?

Someone elsewhere solved the riddle billmon couldn’t puzzle out:
CNN aired an interview with President Bush in which he declared that one day the Iraq war will look like “just a comma.”
Whereupon Karl was seen banging his head screaming “I said footnote! Footnote, you idiot!

If this is a comma, it’s a good thing that bastard wouldn’t know how to use a semicolon.

Isn’t it cute when Georgie Porgie learns new punctuation? Wuzza wuzza. Next up – ampersand!

From Bushs’ (anti fem)(secret fundy language) perspective, perhaps “period” may have turned the trick.

More like ‘coma’.

Just a comma on the soldiers’ headstones. Large comma monument to Bush’s war.

In typical projection mode, Bush is trying to deny the reality, it’s something on TV from far away thats being hyped to break our will and resiliency — that the real violence and death wrought by the policy is insignificant, that all the carnage and sacrifice will be distilled by history into a fine liqueur, a suitable libation for some imagined and far off commemorative celebration. Maybe a new holiday, where we all go out and buy something, eat something, or get drunk over. And people implicitly understand that.

In my younger years, I would have taken the above idea as a Eureka! moment, and done some “Guerrilla artist” Banksy-type action in creating stencils of the “comma’and hopped over the nearest neighbor National Memorial Cemetery and painted headstones till I was exhausted…
However, in my coming (of middle-age), I don’t give a fuck anymore. But you could be damn sure, I would smile, w/ asingle solitary tear in my eye, iffin some young buck, took a notion to do so.

Thanks ralphbon…
Until now all human history has been
only a perpetual and bloody immolation of millions of poor
human beings in honour of some pitiless abstraction — God,
country, power of state, national honour, historical rights,
judicial rights, political liberty, public welfare. –
Mikhail Bakunin, God and the State, p. 59

“Just like a comma.” Every encyclopedia entry on “the banality of evil” should begin with this quote from George W. Bush.

Posted by: Anonymous | Sep 25 2006 13:01 utc | 18

From Steve Gillard:
“When Bush said Iraq was a comma, he was speaking in dog whistle to the fundies. It comes from a saying “Never put a period where God puts a comma”.Which means things will get better. Which is, of course, insane. ”

PROMETHEUS: Zeus is done for.
PITHETAERUS: Ah! and since when, pray?
PROMETHEUS: Since you founded this CloudCuckooland. There is not a man who now sacrifices to the gods; the smoke of the victims no longer reaches us. Not the smallest offering comes! We fast as though it were the festival of Demeter. The barbarian gods, who are dying of hunger, are bawling like Illyrians and threaten to make an armed descent upon Zeus, if he does not open markets where joints of the victims are sold.

– Aristophanes, “Birds”

BIRDS was presented in 414 BCE.
In the previous year, Athens captured an island city, Melia, after a long siege. The Athenians put all the men of military age to death and sold the women and children into slavery. Later that year, the Athenians decided to launch an expedition to Sicily after a vigorous debate. The debate ended with those who opposed the expedition becoming afraid to speak out for fear of being called unpatriotic.
The outcome of the expedition in Sicily was still in doubt when Aristophanes wrote BIRDS. It had ended in disaster before he wrote his next extant play, LYSISTRATA.

jj #2 No make a sense…what does a prostitute (i.e. cloud) have to do w/prev. quote?
what does a prostitute have to do w/a cloud?
from billmons link to the lyrics
“That was Keith’s melody and my lyrics… It’s a stop-bugging-me, post-teenage-alienation song. The grown-up world was a very ordered society in the ’60s, and I was coming out of it. America was even more ordered than anywhere else. I found it was a very restrictive society in thought and behavior and dress. ”
i just assumed he was referring to ‘head in the clouds’ ie, his own little world/reality
