Thanks, Conchita. Just saying it smacks more being fn. of decline in US power than specific Israeli actions, abysmal as they are…
Re Lovelock – key thing to me in checking out his book, is evidence for his assertion that earths temp will rise 10 degrees in next decade or two. That’s wayyyy beyond anything I’ve heard. If that’s the case, we really are cooked…there’s just nothing we can do in 5 yrs. to shift a culture that’s developed over last 150 yrs. at least…It’ll be interesting to see if debate develops around that – like there’s time for it….let’s form some panels to study that hypothesis…it sounds mighty serious…
So, glad that at least some of my barmates wish to discuss this…was it in anyone else’s newspaper, or blog you read? Not living in DC, I found this buried in a site I visit on blue moons – unknownnews.org – though our fave Uncle likes it, hence I stopped by…

News from Planet This Can’t be real *** 2 guys were sentenced to 6 mos. in Colorado for taking some food from a Garbage Can…
One of the owners of a fresh produce store said Saturday that it is absurd that two men are in jail for taking spoiled fruit and vegetables from the store’s trash area.

Charlé most recently worked as a social worker. Siller is an Americorps volunteer and a yoga instructor. Both men had plans to go to graduate school, family and friends said.
The men could have accepted a lesser jail sentence.
“They had a choice between accepting a deferred felony with 90 days in jail or a misdemeanor conviction with six months in jail,” St. James said Friday. “It came down to whether they wanted a felony conviction with less jail time or a misdemeanor with more jail.”
Please Spread This Tale Far & Wide so the DA is Utterly Humiliated & these guys get out now..

jj- lovelock’s been touring along the west coast this week. was in san fran on wed. will be in monterey bay @ csumb monday
on other predictions, there was an article thurs on hansen’s prediction of “no longer than a decade, at the most” to get carbon levels down or we’re facing “the likely extinction of 50 percent of species.”
either prediction – 50% of species wiped out vs 80%+ of humans wiped out – should be more than enough to give the public something real to fear (other than their govt).

@b real, I just swung by to post that link to Hansen…
I’ll shut up & go have some dinner…let’s just say, you can’t even plan a transformation that huge in 10 yrs….It’s a neon statement for why no one even vaguely close to the elites, should be allowed to do anything but dig ditches, they’ve screwed up so badly, yet the consolidation of their power will doubtless march apace w/the decline of their authority…

@jj, #95:

I’d be up for reading Lovelock (I live near a really good independent bookstore, and if they don’t have the book in stock, they’ll be glad to order it for me). Not so crazy about reading through the fictional stuff.

I’m not so sure about specialization being torn apart by this. It would depend on how things fall apart, exactly. One thing I will say, though, is that if TV goes away (which it might — if manufacturing has to go, that will go, too; it takes a lot of stuff to make TV work right) it’ll help a lot.
