Upps - I agree with Lincoln Chafee?!

Phase one of that Road Map states clearly that Israel will freeze all settlement activity. Yet, just this week, it is reported that 690 homes will be built in the West Bank settlements of Maale Adumim and Betar Illit. While the official US policy hs been against settlement activity, no credible observer could think that the US could not do more to stop these new actions.

While I am a strong supporter of Israel, and believer her security is non-negotiable, we should have a more balanced approach -- so that both sides can see that we are an honest broker for peace. I have been a long-time critic of the disparity between the rhetoric and the actions of the Administration on the subject of the Israeli-Palestinian peace process. However, now I fear that even the rhetoric is going to stop. Is this expansion of settlement activity a signal that holding both sides to their commitments under the Road Map is no longer official US policy?

Well - has long as it kicks Bolton out of the UN ...

and also this from Stev Clemmons

several U.S. Senators have separately told me that they have received calls from various Jewish organizations and Israel-affiliated interest groups stating "A Vote Against Bolton is a vote against Israel."

just received this in my email in case anyone would like to participate. if any of the new yorkers here want to stand together, please email me.

9/17 SUN: Number The Dead: Sign up for this RSVP event.

NUMBER THE DEAD
NumberTheDead @ mac.com
http://www.numberthedead.com/

Why We Need You
Please support our cause of remembering the US soldiers who we have lost in the Iraq War.

This project will only be successful if we have every soldier represented on 5th Avenue.
It is time we take a stand and illustrate what the number 2,667 looks like alive. We need you!

You Have To Sign Up To Line Up
- To participate in the line on 5th Ave, please e-mail us at: numberthedead@mac.com
- Include a contact number in your e-mail. If you would like to stand with a group of friends, please let us know.
- You will receive more information and details about the event once you sign up.

SEE YOU ON THE LINE!

About the Project

DEMONSTRATION
"Number the Dead" demonstration has two objectives:

To illustrate - and draw awareness - to the significant number of US soldiers and Iraqis whose lives have been lost as a result of the war in Iraq.

To honor that reality with a moment of silence for the US soldiers and Iraqis who have fallen in the name of freedom.

On September 17, 2006, we are organizing roughly 2700 people to stand on the east sidewalk of 5th Avenue, from 8th Street to 98th Street at 10AM. The number of participants will correspond to the number of US
soldiers that have died in Iraq. Each person will hold a poster board with the name, age and hometown of every fallen US soldier written on it. In addition, we will have someone holding a poster board on each block, marking the number of Iraqis who have been killed as a result of this war. Each block will represent 1,000 Iraqis. From 10-11AM we will stand together in a silent demonstration and vigil.

**We have a permit.

DOCUMENTATION
We are also filming a documentary on the planning and implementation of this project. "Number the Dead" is being organized by Momentum Pictures. The objective behind this documentary is to show how a demonstration is planned and to bring further awareness to the large number of US soldiers we have lost in Iraq.

We are organizing more than twenty camera shooters on the morning of September 17. If you show up on September 17, plan to be on camera. You will be asked to ignore the cameras during the demonstration. Afterwards, you are invited to say a few words on film about this cause.

"Number the Dead" Demonstration and Documentary is a project of Momentum Pictures. To find out more about this company, please see "About Us" below.

EXPLANATION
Everyone has their reasons for wanting to be involved and participate in this demonstration. Since the Republican National Convention in 2004, large demonstrations have decreased tremendously. The number of US casualties in Iraq continues to grow. It is time we take a stand
- literally - and recognize how tremendously significant the cost of 2,667 lives is.

Three years have gone by and we are at a death toll of 2,667 US soldiers. That number is pretty scary.

Three more years in this direction and we could be at a death toll of 5,334 US soldiers. How does that number look to you?

Is there any credibility to THIS REPORT

Posted by: pb | Sep 9 2006 17:07 utc | 3

pb

the number is surely between what Rense reports and the official DoD numbers. I have heard many times that only soldiers who die in Iraq are counted and not those who die in Kuwait and Germany. Another group not reported are all the mercs and contractors working there. About a year ago the military hospital in Landstuhl Germany processed its 25,000th patient since the beginning of the invasion of Afghanistan and then Iraq.

It is odd that we somehow never question the deaths of the civilian contractors and mercenaries. Given that the official military is all volunteer there would not seem to be any difference whatsoever in how they are remembered or "honored".

@annie

Hopsicker's and MadCowMorningNews continues to be the stuff that serious-minded people should focus on when discussing 9/11.

His reporting is solid and the implications are quite stark.... how they took down the towers is irrelevant, who took down the towers is the question for criminal prosecution that they, the elites running the CIA and the corporate media which is basically little more than an "asset" of the CIA, do not want people to focus on . . . thus videos of pod planes and endless arguments over demolition leading nowhere . . . that is why you will never see a review of "Crossing The Rubicon" in the NY Times or mention of either of these two and the research they have done . . . a total blackout b/c they are scared of this direction of investigation and will not touch it . . . they have no problem dealing with pod planes and demolition arguments as you can see with the press they give those areas, but Atta's stripper girlfriend was never interviewed, other than by the FBI, I understand, who threatened her to shut up or face the consequences . . . 911, as the German intelligence folks have pointed out, was a high level intelligence operation carried out by cooperating intelligence agencies . . .

WORLD EXCLUSIVE
JULY 28, 2006--Venice,FL.

Court documents obtained by the MadCowMorningNews shed new light in the murky tale of an American-registered DC9 caught carrying an astonishing 5.5 tons of pure cocaine in Mexico in early April.

The company which owned the seized "Cocaine One" DC9, SkyWay Aircraft of St. Petersburg FL, leased a 70,000 square foot “repair” facility at DFW Airport in Dallas for more than $20,000 a month...in a building owned by a man called “George W. Bush’s biggest supporter” and “the power behind the throne” during Bush’s first Presidential campaign.

SkyWay, a company with no products, and thus nothing needing "repair," nonetheless announced in July 2003 “their newly established Part 145 repair station” [i.e., cocaine transhipment warehouse in Dallas] in a building owned by LIT Industrial Texas Limited Partnership, a venture of Texas real estate giant Trammel Crow, the flagship corporation in the far-flung empire of billionaire speculator Richard Rainwater.

Ranked among the 100 wealthiest Americans, Rainwater backed George W. Bush in four separate business ventures, including the Texas Rangers baseball team from which Bush, who had been drilling “dry holes” until then, profited handsomely. In a heated 1994 Governor’s race, Texas Democratic Governor Ann Richards charged Rainwater “owned" her Republican opponent Bush.

SkyWay "TV repair shop" rent: $20,000 a month

Court documents in the SkyWay’s Federal bankruptcy proceedings in Tampa reveal that SkyWay signed a lease costing $21,000 a month in base rent and operating expenses.

Why would a start-up company which doesn’t (and never will) have any products, spend $20 grand a month to rent a facility to “repair” them?

“We were told we were going to use the facility to service monitors and video equipment which airline’s use to provide onboard entertainment,” an ex-employee explained. “But when you think about it, fixing TV monitors on planes in a facility costing more than 20 grand a month doesn’t seem real economic, does it?”

SkyWay shared the facility with another firm, Airbase Services Inc. A month after the DC9 was seized in Mexico, Airbase filed for bankruptcy.

The registered owner of an airliner caught with more than five tons of cocaine had been leasing, for no easily-discernible purpose, an expensive airport property owned by George W. Bush’s biggest backer.

An amazing discovery. We thought: Eyebrows will be raised.

It seems to confirm our suspicion that tracking the parties involved in the massive cocaine shipment "might could" lead to top officials in the Bush Administration or the CIA.

But we never thought it would lead to them so quickly...

We think its a fair question to ask: What was the nature of SkyWay’s connection to Richard Rainwater, and to George W. Bush?

Scandal figure shows extra-Judicial initiative

Court documents in the SkyWay’s Federal bankruptcy proceedings also provided more detail on the DC9’s ownership, which has been hotly disputed.

At the time of the bust, April 10, it was registered, not to SkyWay, which had already gone bankrupt, but to a SkyWay insider who had somehow wrested control of the planes for himself.

In an example of ‘extra-judicial initiative,’ Frederic Geffon of Royal Sons Inc. registered the plane, N900SA, first in the name of his own company, Royal Sons Inc., and then in his own name.

Bankruptcy trustees are currently negotiating a settlement with Geffon. They told us that SkyWay creditors had to date received no money from this beneficial (to Geffon) change of ownership.

Also last week, a second group of investors, mostly from Kentucky, have filed a lawsuit against Sky Way in in Hillsborough County court, accusing the company and its principals of fraud, civil theft and conspiracy to defraud, among other charges.

The company "shamelessly used the tragedy of 9/11 to concoct an elaborate scheme of fraud designed to prey upon the vulnerable mind set of the American public," the lawsuit states.

Dinner with Bush a "brief encounter"

The lawsuit states that investors were told that “Sky Way's management team was invited to dinner with President Bush to discuss its operational status.” But the "dinner and talk was nothing more than a brief encounter along with a host of other political contributors," the lawsuit states.

The investors appear to have a reason to feel bitter. They, and their money, never stood a chance.

SkyWay Aircraft appears to be a classic example of a “dummy front company.” The purpose of the firm was not to make money. They had nothing to sell. Even if they did no one would buy it. In their self-proclaimed niche market, the main competition of this barely-there firm was... Boeing.

Here we recall that terror flight school Huffman Aviation wasn’t in the business of being a flight school. Nothing about the actions of the two principals there made any business sense.

They were losing $40,000 a month at their Naples location when they blithely decided to pay twice what it was worth in cash to buy a second flight school in Venice.

“When things don’t make business sense, sometimes its because they do make sense... just in some other way.” one former Huffman executive told us darkly. (He insisted on anonymity, because “I have a family, and I don’t want anything bad to happen to them,” he told us.)

"Murky is as murky does"

In exactly this same way, now-defunct SkyWay Aircraft was never a real business either, in the sense of being a corporation set up to make money for its shareholders, a fact which angry investors have now begun to realize.

While burning through $40 million of investor’s money in three years, the bankrupt firm’s only accomplishment was amassing a mini-fleet (actually, just two) DC9’s, one of which was painted to impersonate an aircraft belonging to the U.S. Dept of Homeland Security.

And SkyWay’s resident “boy genius,” Brent Kovar is no Bill Gates or Steve Jobs. People willing to go the extra mile to steal from widows and orphans aren't troubled by much. Kovar's neighbor lent him $300,000, one former exec told us, for a few days as a personal loan, without even bothering to write it up. His chances are slim to none, apparently, of getting his money back.

SkyWay Communications Holdings Corp., a “holding company” that “held” only one company, SkyWay Aircraft, lost nearly $40 million between 2002 and its last annual report in January 2005.

Skyway, "has left a trail of tangled litigation and angry investors, including 24 Kuwaiti and Saudi nationals," said an article in the August 26, 2005 Tampa Business Journal.

Investors "poured money into a company that promised to protect airplanes from terrorism and provide high-speed Internet at 30,000 feet.”

In a bankruptcy hearing, federal Judge Paul M. Glenn called the case "murky." "I have a great deal of concern about this case," Judge Glenn said. "There's a great deal we don't know."

How come we don't got no drug lords, Daddy?

When an American-registered DC9 airliner was caught red-handed, or red-winged, with 5.5 tons of cocaine, researchers into the murky world of international narcotics smuggling—the number one industry in the world in terms of foreign trade—were excited about the prospect that the case would reveal, at long last, the identities of the industry’s titans, figures heretofore shrouded in mystery.

In a nation of entrepreneurs whose globe-trotting verve is the envy of the world, it has been a puzzling oversight that the United States of America officially has no authentic native-born Drug Lords.

We seemed to do okay in other areas of organized crime…Our stock swindlers and fraud merchants, for example, are the envy of the underworld. John Gotti could hold his own with any Russian Mobsters. And the Yakusa wasn’t kicking sand in anybody’s face.

Yet it seems we have neglected to nurture any home-grown American Drug Lords.

What does this say to ambitious American youngsters, looking for role models for future careers? Were we fated to import them forever from South America, like we do with junior welterweights?

The hope of course was that at long last we would now learn the names of Drug Lords whose first names weren’t “Pablo” or “Juan..." that the massive seizure in Ciudad del Carmen, in a remote corner of Mexico’s Yucatan, would give American youth role models from their own culture.

'Meth for sex' trades no longer real big news

Alas, our elation was short-lived. The FAA accepted back-dated documents stating the plane had been exported before the bust. The registered owner wouldn’t say to who. The FAA claimed it wasn’t their problem. They didn’t care what you did with the planes. They just registered them.

The DEA was even worse. They deliberately undervalued the amount seized by a whopping $400 million dollars. Asked if they were investigating the American side of the 5.5 ton bust, the Tampa DEA office issued a terse no comment.

The DEA website has press release’s issued at about the same time as the cocaine bust… “7 Arrested and Thousands of Marijuana Plants Seized in East Bay Area,” heralds one.

“38 Members of a Palm Beach County Crack Gang Face Federal Charges,” another announced. A third release headlines this less-than-amazing fact:

“Meth Sold For Sex On Wind River Indian Reservation.”

In a world where they're already re-making Miami Vice, this seems a little tame. We wondered: did the DEA have to go undercover to see the "Meth Sold for Sex!" Were there secretly-recorded video of the transactions?

"Half a billion here, half a billion there, and pretty soon you got a Congressional Majority"

But there is nothing from the DEA—not one peep—about an American registered plane carrying more than a half billion dollars worth of product destined for the U.S.

In the lobby of the CIA there’s an inscription on the wall which reads: “Ye Shall Know the Truth, and the Truth Will Set You Free.”

If the DEA puts one up in their lobby it should say: “Mum’s the word.”

The chief shared characteristic of the people involved seems to be the ability to act with impunity and without regard for legal consequences. Their actions regularly make a mockery of the concept of “Equal Justice Under Law” which schoolchildren are taught is the basis of American government.

Call them what you will. We call them, a little melodramatically perhaps... the Masters of the Universe... people able to do things for which ordinary people ordinarily pull Federal time.

Dov Zahkeim: This article pulls alot of loose ends together

Also see, "Missing" Trillions

Rumsfeld Buries Admission of Missing 2+ Trillion Dollars in 9/10/01 Press Conference
On September 10, 2001, Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld held a press conference to disclose that over $2,000,000,000,000 in Pentagon funds could not be accounted for. Rumsfeld stated: "According to some estimates we cannot track $2.3 trillion in transactions." 1 Â

Such a disclosure normally would have sparked a huge scandal. However, the commencement of the attack on New York City and Washington in the morning would assure that the story remained buried. To the trillions already missing from the coffers, an obedient Congress terrorized by anthrax attacks would add billions more in appropriations to fight the "War on Terror."

The Comptroller of the Pentagon at the time of the attack was Dov Zakheim, who was appointed in May of 2001. Before becoming the Pentagon's money-manager, he was an executive at System Planning Corporation, a defense contractor specializing in electronic warfare technologies including remote-controlled aircraft systems. 2 Â 3 Â Zakheim is a member of the Project for a New American Century and participated in the creation of its 2000 position paper Rebuilding America's Defenses which called for "a New Pearl Harbor." 4 Â "

I haven't had time recently to read MoA comments as assiduously as I used to so I have no idea whether the now openly apparent starvation of the Palestinian people has been mentioned.

This somewhat under-publicised article by Patrick Cockburn in the Independent (09/09/2006) says it all.

The Israeli military and economic siege of Gaza has led to a collapse in Palestinian living conditions and many people only survive by looking for scraps of food in rubbish dumps, say international aid agencies.

"The pressure and tactics have not resulted in a desire for compromise," Karen Abuzayd, the head of the UN Relief and Works Agency is said to have warned. "But rather they have created mass despair, anger and a sense of hopelessness and abandonment."

Israel closed the entry and exit points into the Gaza Strip, home to 1.5 million Palestinians, on 25 June and has conducted frequent raids and bombings that have killed 262 people and wounded 1,200. The crisis in Gaza has been largely ignored by the rest of the world, which has been absorbed by the wars in Iraq, Afghanistan and Lebanon.

"Women in Gaza tell me they are eating only one meal a day, bread with tomatoes or cheap vegetables," said Kirstie Campbell of the UN's World Food Programme, which is feeding 235,000 people. She added that in June, since when the crisis has worsened, some 70 per cent of people in Gaza could not meet their family's food needs. "People are raiding garbage dumps," she said.

As someone who believes that the abduction of the Fox news-crew was a put up job, it is easy to see why the Israelis don't want journalists thinking it is safe to go to Gaza. Who knows some journo may get it into his head to move off the meme of the day which is currently "Why do Muslims think blowing up the World trade Centre was fair enough?" and ask a question like:
"Is your family having to scrounge food scraps for their one meal a day out of rubbish dumps?"

The Bliar is trying to shore up domestic support by meeting and greeting a few Middle Eastern 'leaders' of the sequestration of Palestine this weekend. The Palestinians apart from the corrupt quisling Abbas don't want a bar of him but I guess they hope that amongst the hacks following the Bliar around harassing him about when he's going to admit defeat and bugger off there may be one keen enough to have a bit of a stickybeak about the west bank or Gaza and see the poverty and disease that the israelis are inflicting upon them.

No one from Hamas is prepared to meet the Bliar who is trying to pass this off as 'normal' that he wouldn't meet with the 'terrorists' either when in fact he has been pushing hard for just such a meeting in the hope he can still salvage his "legacy' (legacy! how dare these greedy fucks imagine their legacy can be anything other than hatred and contempt).

Hamas know that he's a dead duck and that their status within Palestine and the larger Arab world population could only be diminished by such a meeting.

The sickest thing about this whole slimy business is that the zionists imagine that if they starve the Palestinians long-enough, the Hamas leadership or whatever replaces it will sign up to the legitimacy and primacy of Israel over Palestine and it's land.

It's sick because I have no doubt that a cursory search through documentation from the 3rd Reich's genocide in Poland would throw up any number of signed statements by people senior in the polish Jewish community admitting everything from the accuracy of the protocols of zion, to ,the killing of christ which also acknowledged jews as being sub-human. Those declarations signed by men facing the imminent deaths of their families by murder or starvation, would have signed them on a promise of a couple of wagons of grain or perhaps even some protein, rightly have absolutely no validity because they were taken under duress. Taken from people hoping that perhaps this blatantly untrue concession may ensure their family's survival.

Any 'treaty' or terms of surrender signed by the Palestinian leadership of a community facing death would have the exactly the same lack of validity.

The other Cockburn (Alexander) says it all in todays Counterpunch .

THe article which I like because it makes essentially the same arguments about 9/11 as I have is entitled
How They Let the Guilty Parties of 9/11 Slip Off the Hook- The conspiracy nuts

It rolls all the issues about attributing 9/11 to the Bushistas together eg the implied racism, the impossibility of having such a large conspiracy involving so many people suffer no leaks etc etc etc

But most importantly it argues that while everyone is running around blaming Osama bin Bush they are undermining the actual instances of negligence and failed intelligence which combined with bureaucratic turf protection allowed the murders to occur and contributed greatly to their number.

EG
". . . the actual corrupt conspiracies on Giuliani’s watch: the favoritism to Motorola which saddled the firemen with radios that didn’t work; the ability of the Port Authority to skimp on fire protection, the mayor’s catastrophic failure in the years before 9/11/2001 to organize an effective unified emergency command that would have meant that cops and firemen could have communicated; that many firemen wouldn’t have unnecessarily entered the Towers; that people in the Towers wouldn’t have been told by 911 emergency operators to stay in place; and that firemen could have heard the helicopter warnings and the final Mayday messages that prompted most of the NYPD men to flee the Towers. . ."

A Father Recounting A Fallen Marine’s Last Days
September 5, 2006 By JOHN FENTON

On April 26, Matthew, 24, was the gunner on a Humvee protecting a Marine convoy on the outskirts of Fallujah. A suicide car bomber attempted to ram his Humvee, and he got off a few shots at the vehicle. From what I have been told it is common practice for these bombers to detonate their bomb if they come under fire. Matthew was the only Marine injured in the attack. Later that same day I received a phone call telling me that Matt was seriously wounded and that it was a head injury.

Diane and I flew to Washington the next day and were met by a uniformed Marine and driven to Bethesda.

What awaited us there is still shocking to me now. We met with two doctors who laid everything out for us. Matthew’s injury was a devastating one. Shrapnel had entered his head just above his left eye and traveled diagonally through his brain and exited the right rear.

Surgeons in Baghdad had removed two plates from his skull to help relieve the pressure from the swelling of his brain. The frontal lobe was destroyed, so they had removed it. It was explained that the frontal lobe is the center of personality and the place where someone is aware of themselves. The Matthew that we knew and loved was gone and would never come back.

As we struggled with that staggering news there was more to come. The shrapnel had done severe damage to both sides of Matt’s brain because of the angle that it traveled through. The brain can figure a way to control functions when one side is damaged, like in a stroke. But this was devastating news.

His head was completely swollen, like some cartoon character. There were maybe hundreds of metal staples in his head. There were of course tubes coming and going everywhere. There were drains running from the site of the surgery. And there was the ventilator.

For days we made that walk down that long hallway. It took some time but I finally was able to look at some of the other Marines on the ward with Matthew. I wish to this moment that I hadn’t. Kids with horrible injuries.

One had been in the ward for 11 months, after seven different brain surgeries. His wife refused to let him go. She was praying for a miracle. He had parts of his skull removed also, but all the swelling was gone now and his head had sunken in where they had been removed. He did not move at all.

Across the ward another Marine was in his third month, and his head was all sunken in. This is what lay ahead for Matthew also.

On May 3, the Marine Corps commandant presented Matthew with his Purple Heart. On May 4, I noticed that the swelling of Matthew’s head was going down. By the end of the day the indentations where pieces of his skull were missing were becoming noticeable. The next morning I was dreading what he might be looking like. And, yes, there was his head becoming very odd shaped.

Sometime around noon on May 5, Matthew was moved from the ward to a private room. Behind some curtains they removed the ventilator and most of the tubes. He was kept on the morphine, and we were assured he would not feel any pain. Now he was breathing all on his own. Diane got into the hospital bed with her son, and I held his hand and we all waited and watched for Matthew to pass. But he would not go easily.

After three hours of labored breathing, I asked the nurse if there was anything that she could do. No. I asked God to take him now. No. His mother told him to go. I asked him to go. Go to some peace. A half-hour later, he finally took his last breath.

This is the real story of the war in Iraq. We all know the numbers, and we all know the reasons that are claimed that we have to be there. But this is the reality: young, brave, patriotic men losing their lives for a cause that keeps shifting.

Every politician who supports the war should go to Bethesda or Walter Reed and see just what their support is costing in human life and suffering.

And to everyone who opposes the war, don’t just sit back any longer.

Truth." Ray Nowosielski's documentary tranchantly makes the point that the Bush regime has a lot to answer for, starting with why it didn't take seriously the many pre-9/11 warnings of an imminent terrorist attack involving aircraft. It adds that the 9/11 Commission investigation was stonewalled by
the administration, that it wasn't until public pressure generated by
the 9/11 widows nicknamed The Jersey Girls that administration officials grudgingly testified, and then minimally, with Bush and Dick Cheney agreeing to do so only behind closed doors and not under oath.

Was there a cover-up? The film asks, riding the book "The Terror
Timeline" by Paul Thompson, who shames most other so-called journalism
by digging into available material and asking pointed questions. One of
the most explosive has to do with the assertion that the money for the
9/11 hijackers was funnelled through the head of Pakistani intelligence,
and that
this was covered up, as was Osama bin Laden's escape into Pakistan when
Tora Bora was surrounded on only three sides and an air corridor to
Pakistan was left open. It's hard to dispute the film's conclusion that
without candor, without answers, without accountability, our
understanding of 9/11 remains frustratingly incomplete, whether by
administration design or not.

may or may
not give Ann Coulter a headache, but /9/11: Press for Truth/ will give
her a fucking migraine. Ray Nowosielski's film begins as a portrait of
the Jersey Girls, a group of four 9/11 widows---Kristen Breitweiser,
Patty Casazza, Lorie Van Auken, and Mindy Kleinberg---instrumental in
drumming up support from both sides of the political aisle for what
would eventually become the 9/11 Commission. Despite Coulter's vulgar
accusations that these bipartisan women enjoyed the deaths of their
husbands, it's clear that that the only satisfaction these obviously
pained women seek is an acknowledgement of blame from our government for
insufficiently acting on its pre-9/11 intelligence. With the help of
Paul Thompson, author of the comprehensive /The Terror Timeline/, and an
arsenal of media footage at his disposal, Nowosielski catalogs
frustration after frustration, effortlessly illuminating that 9/11 was
more than just a "failure of imagination." But the title of the film
refers not only to the Jersey Girls' vigilant demand for truth but to
the media's own refusal to push for truth after 9/11 for fear of
retribution from higher powers. This is where the film reveals its
complexity, except Nowosielski makes the mistake of indulging trite
scare-mongering tactics, from his use of scary-movie music on the
soundtrack to frequent cutaways to a CGI wall of television sets
ostensibly meant to evoke the media's Orwellian control of our
(dis)information. These lapses make a smart documentary appear awfully
unbecoming.

Let's just say that a small, determined band of stealthy terrorists hijacked a tv network and flew it into America's Tower of Babble-on. Osama taught them how.

"There is no argument. Alexander Cockburn lives in another universe where the laws of physics do not apply." - DM@15

"High grade steel can bend disastrously under extreme heat." - Cockburn

While technically true it can, and steel can even be cut! if the temp is high enough (thermite?), this statement is over simplified and misleading.

The steel going into these buildings is rated to withstand fire at temp X for time Y before it begins to fail. Apparently, kerosene (the fuel) burns at a temp a coupla hundred degrees less than what the steel was rated to take for a few hours.

As most of the fuel is burned off in the initial fireball, what is left burning is carpets, furniture, paint, paper and other things that burn at far lower temps.

Even if the fires that would be burning nearest the point of impact were somehow physically (and it would seem magically) hot enough to cause some of the columns to "bend disastrously", this "exteme heat" would be concentrated where the fuel sloshed around the point of impact.

It would not affect all columns on the same floor and would not affect any columns for their entire length. Some columns would be cut by the impact, some would be engulfed by burning fuel (most of which burns off) and others would burn from the flames caused by office stuff. Some columns may not have been affected much if at all, before the towers fell in on themselves.

None of the columns would have been extremely hot from penthouse to B3 parking.

All columns had a significant percentage of their length below the point of impact left intact. This would have resisted the collapse, slowing and distorting it.

A house blew up recently in MrandMississauga. Was that property owner allowed to immediately cart away the rubble or did authorities sift through it for data, as U$cam says, and charge him with arson? If the data didn't point at this homeowner, who would the authorities be after, Osama Bin Forgotten?

Yes, soldiers who do not die ‘in theater’ are rushed off, and the medical care on the spot is very good, typically wounds from ED don’t kill many outfight but maim..

I have also read that another category is not counted officially: orphans, the isolated. Those who do not declare any family - mother/father, spouse/children, are treated differently, to the point where their pay is docked for some kind of ‘insurance’ - but that is internet stuff from about 2 years ago.

The foreign enlisted, mostly from Mexico and S. America, those who hope for a green card at the end, are also I am sure, not listed in full.

The mercenaries (e.g. Blackwater) are well, even extravagantly insured, families are handsomely compensated, which is one of the reasons they recruit easily. Everyone understands that the death toll is Company business and not to be investigated or discussed. Still there are numbers out there (see manofyre.)

Let’s not forget that many Iraqis are officially working (eg. police) on the side of the US. So the death toll as categorised is in itself off.

Lastly, as many have noticed, US warmaking is designed to preserve lives on the ground, on the spot, to keep the official death stats low. Principally through the use of DU, which only kills the troops a year or ten after they have left theatre. The stats - even the official numbers - from Gulf War I are horrendous. If I have time I will look it up and post. What it means for the US army, basically, is that soldiers can be used once, and not more (though in the space of 2 - 3 yrs they may do several tours, but that is it.) They have a short shelf life, and must be replaced. That means loss of expertise, loss of command, a machine that has to be perpetually fed....shoddy training (it costs too much to do it again and again..) etc.

hey, i only posted that once, honest

Posted by: gmac | Sep 10 2006 19:31 utc | 32

Debs posted an article from Counter Punch that read in part, flavor:

". . . the actual corrupt conspiracies on Giuliani’s watch: the favoritism to Motorola which saddled the firemen with radios that didn’t work; the ability of the Port Authority to skimp on fire protection, the mayor’s catastrophic failure in the years before 9/11/2001 to organize an effective unified.."

Sounds like Katrina, with different actors.

Incompetence, inefficiency, crossed wires, dopey or gleeful authoritarianism, no care for the victims.

Yes.

The 9/11 families, the truth movement, are calling for Truth. That is a scarce commodity, and one should not ask one’s superiors for it.

New investigations, commissions, shouting matches and banners five years on will solve nothing. At best, the Gvmt. will do a limited hangout and invent yet another mad scenario to explain the tragedy. That Americans would still call on their Gvmt. to organise, act, investigate, do, is astonishing. (though it will slowly have its effects.)

9/11 has become a media circus, with the Truthers (and good for them, btw) slowly gaining a position, and forcing the mainstream media to publish crazed debunking articles, take them partly seriously, with titles like, do we know the whole truth? Are you a conspiracy theorist? Do we need a new investigation? (these titles are my inventions.)

Popular Science, Time, much of the mainstream has been forced to finally ..errr... publish something about it, as readers and subscribers have objected, cancelled, endlessly mailed, etc. The Gvmt. agencies have been forced to produce new scientific reports, ludicrous, laughable, most of them.

9/11 begins to resemble gay marriage, a question of ‘belief’, of ‘affiliation’, of ‘personal opinion’, of group belonging, of ‘certainty’ about what is ‘true’ what is ‘right’. Yet another messy cultural issue.

Good stuff annie, your #26 is a rare one..

With regards to my #22 I was hoping/expecting for at least a little Sibel Edmonds in there, especially since it was the "Jersey Girls" who were pushing so hard at the hearings for her public testimony of which I had forgotten until someone reminded me, also WTC7 only gets a brief, quizzical mention. But why not include this tidbit, if we are working the ISI connection:

Among the occupants of 7 World Trade: Secret Service (watching the show at 8:46 and hot-linked to Bush's detail), BATF, CIA, DoD, SEC and ... Standard Charter Bank, the ISI money transfer bank. Finally, did anybody watch the link I posted entitled Who killed john o'neill.

Particularly

- given the thermate recipe found

- the fact that it was the FBI, that ON TAPE, was caught attempting to tell their agent to blow up the WTC1 in 1993 using that group of mentally retarted patsies he had recruited for the FBI as the later public media scapegoat.

- and that Michael Chertoff pops out of nowhere in 1993 (current Bush pick of "homeland (in)security") to DEFEND, i.e., to be defense laywer, for an Al-Queda financier suspect Magdy El-Amir IN THESE 1993 WTC BOMBINGS.

- Chertoff defends El-Amir once more as late as 1999--when he was attempting to give "Al Queda" nuclear technology. (Operation Diamondback)

- Interesting that Bush appoints defense layer for Al-Queda(Al-CIAda) Chertoff to head of 'homeland (in)security'--because in addition to Chertoff coming out of the woodwork showing his 1993 WTC attack connection, right after the failed 1993 FBI vetted attack the Bush family comes in and takes over WTC security.

- and the same people around Silverstein who majority financed the purchase to get control of the WTCs to blow them up seven weeks later are planning to take down the Chicago Tower RIGHT THIS VERY MINUTE.

- On 9-11, they were likely going to ram the Chicago Sears Tower with that plane that almost made it to Chicago then was 'aborted' and turned around; something went amiss there--because another Mossad cell in a moving van was filming the Chicago Tower. It seems a simultaneous multi city Mossad linked operation, simultaneous to the 9-11 filming crew that was placed in NYC.

More on the thermate first below, then more on the Chicago Tower issue.

The same "(in)security" company, Kroll/AIG, that was helping out Marvin Bush's Securatec at the 9-11 controlled demolitions site, is currently placed (after the recent ownership change of the Sears Tower) to be there as well. Kroll is connected to Goldman Sachs which provided equity for the Silverstein WTC purchase (Kroll security there), and Goldman Sachs has bought up the Sears Tower (and put Kroll there as well):

Back to Steven Jones,

[1] since thermite/thermate can be made of basic industrical chemicals, it can be made "tracerless"--i.e., avoid all signature tracer chemicals that the U.S. Govt requires be mixed in very small amounts in all highly powerful and highly monitored explosives to keep track of every batch's origin.

[2] Moreover if he has found it in WTC7, as he says, then with Silverstein admitting that he conducted a controlled demolition on 9-11 of WTC7 around 5:30 p.m., then Silverstein is admitting that WTC1, WTC2, and WTC7 all are thermate controlled demolitions.

[3] And who was in charge of WTC security? Why, Marvin Bush, brother of George W. Bush, on the board of Securatech from right after the failed 1993 FBI directed attack on the World Trade Center. Then they pulled in 'the big boys.'

[4] And written up in their mom's (ghostwritten) autobiography, Barbara Bush drops the other bombshell that it's just a coincidence that Marvin's security contract at the WTCs was up on September 11, 2001 anyway. She wrote about it in the book!

[5] The Bush family through Marvin Bush have been in charge of security of the WTCs since immediately after the first failed terrorist attempt to knock down the WTCs one month into Clinton's Presidential tenure in 1993.

[6] The FBI is on record giving the order to conduct terrorism on the WTC in 1993, via their hired gun Salam, who didn't want to carry out the attack 'for real' since he was told by the FBI that he was hired simply for a sting opreation to arrest some perpetrators in a terror cell he infiltrated for the FBI.

Here's Alex Jones...

two minute video summaryon this

I think Thompson is right you have to tease out the buried compartmentalixed info to puzle it together for a more coherent picture, and having sd, that need I remind everyone that this MO of compartmentalizing, i.e. "need to know" in military quarters is strictly intel and spacifically military.

[7] When the FBI instead told him to both suggest the WTC as a target for the 1993 attack, as well as teach them how to make bombs, as well as FBI allowing him to provide live explosives--their agent started taping everything covertly that he was ordered to do in reference to FBI ordering him to carry out the 1993 terrorist attack on the WTCs.

[8] Immediately after the failed attack on the WTCs, the Bush family, through a corporate shell vehicle owned in part by the royal family of Kuwait, the Kuwaiti/American Corporation, was put in charge of security at the WTCs, with Marvin Bush on board.

[9] Seven weeks before the controlled demolitions of 9-11, the towers change hands in their first (rushed) sale, being all bought up by Silverstein, who introduces a huge terrorism insurance appendage.

[10] Despite later admitting publicly that HE gave the order (in the PBS special "America Rebuilds") to blow up his own WTC7 on 9-11, the whole thing is so corrupt that he still collects 500 million dollars on the "terrorist destuction alibi" of WTC7, and has already collected several billion dollars on the 'terrorism clause' in the WTC1/2 insurance.

[11] and We already know that the anthrax that was sent to congress and which killed several postal workers in the process (sent to Senator Daschle and to Senator Leahy), was weaponized under a covert CIA only contract, and it was a domestic Ames strain of anthrax coming from one of three or four of the U.S. bioweapons labs.

[12] The "Patriot Act" was already written up before 9-11, just required a whiff of domestic anthrax to force passage with a bit more bio-terrorism on the Congress itself by domestic terrorists;

[13] Bush and his whole Cabinet of course were out of danger: they were taking an anthrax exclusive drug to counter it, from September 11 onward, so when the anthrax hit in early October in DC, Bush's staff would be immune to the domestic-in-origin anthrax terrorism. The interesting point of course is Bush's whole team all psyched up and anticipating an anthrax attack one month in advance--which just so happens to be the incubation time for the anthax bacilli--I could go on ad nauseum.

The whole U.S. government is a terrorist unit, operating under the guise of its counter terrorism squads.

For those who really want the nitty gritty that they plan to continue to blow up the Sears Tower (JUST AS THEY CONTINUED TO MANEUVER TO BLOW UP THE WTC from 1993 onward, keep in mind):

Thus, below, there's a lot of proof that the same American financial criminals in NYC on 9-11 are indeed maneuvering to blow up the Sears Tower.

Title: 9-11 #2: Goldman Sachs (did WTC equity) buys another symbolic 110 fl. tower, Sears/Chicago
Author: deja vu

9-11 & Sears Tower Plot of Goldman Sachs,Kroll,& AIG: NO bomb, infiltrate,Silverstein link

Oh, the rabbit hole is vast and deep, but you can be sure of one thing, the Bush crime family is in on to the hilt, begining to end.

Posted by: beq | Sep 10 2006 23:13 utc | 38

@beq

My best guess is because of "trained incapacity". As Thorstein Veblen point's out, authority figures train their members or practitioners to see certain aspects of a problem, but in so doing those practitioners become trained to not see other aspects of the same problem. While many are just now feeling the effects of being down-wardly mobile. The elite justify it with a "blameless cupidity" also a Veblenism. Along with the incremental social dehumanizing that has been going on for more than three or four decades, along with their dehumanizing social institutions i.e. social response to the dehumanizing effect of market control over livelihoods, effects of a highly mechanized compartmentalized civilization for example criminalizing the poor or different, methodical induced alienation, they want us disenchanted, the masses are easier to control that way...

They want us disasociated from our family, friend, community and finally our own bodies..

They loath intution, because it's our souls way of communicating truth to our bodies and they can't sell and market us if we listen to ourselves in stead of the voices they put in our heads...

It’s awful. My in-box overflows each day with fresh “proofs” of how the WTC buildings were actually demolished, often accompanied by harsh insults identifying me as a “gate-keeper” preventing the truth from getting out. I meet people who start quietly, asking me “what I think about 9/11”. What they are actually trying to find out is whether I’m part of the coven. I imagine it was like being a Stoic in the second century A.D. going for a stroll in the Forum and meeting some fellow asking, with seeming casualness, whether it’s possible to feed 5,000 people on five loaves of bread and a couple of fish.

what's not to love about the man?

One interesting point I did notice was the lack of any sponsor mention at the beginning. This was not the first time a network ran a show uninterrupted, but when they have done this in the past they made damn sure you knew who was footing the bill. Path to 9/11 – nothing. So who is footing the bill for this $40 million production and why don’t they want to be mentioned?

Without going over old ground too much, the most likely instigation of 9/11 is the one that many used to espouse here. This changed when some mid-western professor attempted to apply physics to a situation where no-one has sufficient knowledge of the precise conditions the buildings were in at the time of collapse to be able to to make any emphatic statement one way or another. This is compounded by the obstacle that since the planes flying into the WTC was a first of it's kind there are no previous observations upon which any sort of a certain prediction could be made even if the precise situation were known.

Given that, why bother to try and prove the unprovable? Unless someone who was involved in the conspiracy comes forward with unassailable evidence, this whole matter is going to become a sump of invective.

More importantly energy which would be better directed elsewhere is being swallowed up on unprovable theories. Any attempt to 'prove' anything or make an hypothesis on where a golf ball lands afer it has landed is just bad science. Short of building the WTC exactly as it was, then waiting twenty years before flying a couple of jumbos into it, there really is no way to prove what happened.

But there are things which can be proved.

Blind Freddy saw that if amerikan abuse of the Arab states continued there would be a price to be paid. It was on the back of most amerikan's minds like a guilty conscience. remember all of the 'swarthies' pulled off planes after Oklahoma City?

Why would BushCo bother to run the risk of a complicated and dangerous conspiracy, one that if discovered would mean death and dishonour, when if they played their cards right, AQ would do the job for them anyhow.

So BushCo stuck to their knitting by lining up all of the most repressive legislation that they had been unsuccessful inflicting on the people, turning a blind eye to any intelligence which might cause them to stop an attack before it was an outrage, but nevertheless given Arab prediliction for jumbo jets making sure they didn't fly on any.

With all the ducks in a row Dubya went off to clear weeds and mutter inconsequentialities, knowing that it was only a matter of time before they got their outrage.

This is where amerikans who are pissed off about this stuff need to concentrate their energies. On the provable issues where these assholes let their population down, probably on purpose and then used a commission of enquiry to cover it up.

Why waste time chasing something that can never be proved and will turn off at least as many people as it attracts?

Arch, wicked irony: In the Iraqi war zone, US Army calls for 'green' power

excerpt [emphasis added]:

Memo to Pentagon brass from the top United States commander in western Iraq: Renewable energy - solar and wind-power generators - urgently needed to help win the fight. Send soon.

Calling for more energy in the middle of oil-rich Iraq might sound odd to some. But not to Marine Corps Maj. Gen. Richard Zilmer, whose deputies on July 25 sent the Pentagon a "Priority 1" request for "a self-sustainable energy solution" including "solar panels and wind turbines."

The memo may be the first time a frontline commander has called for renewable-energy backup in battle. Indeed, it underscores the urgency: Without renewable power, US forces "will remain unnecessarily exposed" and will "continue to accrue preventable ... serious and grave casualties," the memo says.

In this series I wish to explore three important propositions concerning the global drug traffic. The first is that the highly integrated drug traffic industry, in addition to serving the political ends of world powers, has its own political as well as economic needs. It requires that in major growing areas there must be limited state control, a condition most easily reached by fostering regional rebellion and warfare, often fought by its own private armies. This is the on-going situation of designed violence in every major growing area, from Lebanon to Myanmar, Colombia to Afghanistan.

Once drug armies themselves were powerful enough to neutralize the imposition of state authority. But today there are increasing signs that those at the highest level of the drug traffic will plot with the leaders of major states to ensure, or even to stage, violence that serves the power of the state and the industry alike.

Thanks to extensive research in Russia, we now have initial evidence of a second proposition: There exists on the global level a drug meta-group, able to manipulate the resources of the drug traffic for its own political and business ends, without being at risk for actual trafficking. These ends include the creation of designed violence to serve the purposes of cabals in political power – most conspicuously in the case of the Yeltsin “family” in the Kremlin, but allegedly, according to Russian sources, also for those currently in power in the United States.

...

The third proposition is that a meta-group of this scale does not just help government agencies make history. I hope to show that it, like its predecessors, has the power to manage both violence and state behavior, and thus make history to its own agenda.

September 11, 2006
by Greg Palast

It's true. It's weird. It's nuts. The Department of Homeland Security, after a five-year hunt for Osama, has finally brought charges against … Greg Palast. I kid you not. Send your cakes with files to the Air America wing at Guantanamo.

Though not just yet. Fatherland Security has informed me that television producer Matt Pascarella and I have been charged with unauthorized filming of a "critical national security structure" in Louisiana.

On August 22, for LinkTV and Democracy Now! we videotaped the thousands of Katrina evacuees still held behind a barbed wire in a trailer park encampment a hundred miles from New Orleans. It's been a year since the hurricane and 73,000 POW's (Prisoners of W) are still in this aluminum ghetto in the middle of nowhere. One resident, Pamela Lewis said, “It is a prison set-up" -- except there are no home furloughs for these inmates because they no longer have homes.

To give a sense of the full flavor and smell of the place, we wanted to show that this human parking lot, with kids and elderly, is nearly adjacent to the Exxon Oil refinery, the nation's second largest, a chemical-belching behemoth.

So we filmed it. Without Big Brother's authorization. Uh, oh. Apparently, the broadcast of these stinking smokestacks tipped off Osama that, if his assassins pose as poor Black folk, they can get a cramped Airstream right next to a "critical infrastructure" asset.

So now Matt and I have a "criminal complaint" lodged against us with the feds.

The positive side for me as a journalist is that I get to see our terror-busters in action. I should note that it took the Maxwell Smarts at Homeland Security a full two weeks to hunt us down.

Frankly, we were a bit scared that, given the charges, we wouldn't be allowed on a plane into New York last night. But what scared us more is that we were allowed on the plane.

Once I was traced, I had a bit of an other-worldly conversation with my would-be captors. Detective Frank Pananepinto of Homeland Security told us, "This is a 'Critical Infrastructure' … and they get nervous about unauthorized filming of their property.

Well, me too, Detective. In fact, I'm very nervous that this potential chemical blast-site can be mapped in extreme detail at this Google Map location

What also makes me nervous is that the Bush Terror Terriers have kindly indicated on the Internet that this unprotected critical infrastructure can be targeted -- I mean located -- at 30º 29' 11" N Latitude and 91º 11' 39" W Longitude.

After I assured Detective Pananepinto, "I can swear to you that I'm not part of Al Qaeda," he confirmed that, "Louisiana is still part of the United States," subject to the first amendment and he was therefore required to divulge my accuser.

Not surprisingly, it was Exxon Corporation, one of a handful of companies not in love with my investigations. [See "A Well-Designed Disaster: the Untold Story of the Exxon Valdez."]

So I rang America's top petroleum pusher-men and asked their media relations honcho in Houston, Marc Boudreaux, a simple question. "Do you want us to go to jail or not? Is it Exxon's position that reporters should go to jail?" Because, all my dumb-ass jokes aside, that is what's at stake. And Exxon knew we were journalists because we showed our press credential to the Exxon guards at the refinery entrance.

The Exxon man was coy: "Well, we'll see what we can find out…. Obviously it's important to national security that we have supplies from that refinery in the event of an emergency."

Really? According to the documents our team uncovered from the offices of Exxon's lawyer, Mr. James Baker, the oil industry is more than happy to see a limit on worldwide crude production. Indeed, the current squeeze has jacked the price of oil from $24 a barrel to $64 and refined products have jumped yet higher -- resulting in a record-busting profit for Exxon of nearly $1 billion per week.

So this silly "criminal complaint" has nothing to do with stopping Al Qaeda or keeping the oil flowing. It has everything to do with obstructing news reports in a way that no one would have dared attempt before the September 11 attack.

Dectective Pananepinto, in justifying our impending bust, said, "If you remember, a lot of people were killed on 9/11."

Yes, Detective, I remember that very well: my office was in the World Trade Center. Lucky for me, I was out of town that day. It was not a lucky day for 3,000 others.

Yes, I remember "a lot" of people were killed. So I have this suggestion, Detective -- and you can pass it on to Mr. Bush: Go and find the people who killed them.

It's been five years and the Bush regime has not done that. Instead, the War on Terror is reduced to taking off our shoes in airports, hoping we can bomb Muslims into loving America and chasing journalists around the bayou. Meanwhile, King Abdullah, the Gambino of oil, whose princelings funded the murderers, gets a free ride in the President's golf cart at the Crawford ranch.

I guess I shouldn't complain. After all, Matt and I look pretty good in orange.

*******

A personal request to readers. Many have written to ask what can be done to protect Matt and me from becoming unwilling guests of the State.

First, this ain't no foolin' around: Matt and I are facing these nutty charges. So spread the info. We believe that getting the word out is the best defense.

Second, call Homeland Security and turn us in. They seem to have trouble finding us. If you get a reward, you may choose to donate it to the Palast Investigative Fund, a 501(c)(3) educational foundation which supports our work and pays our legal fees.

Third, ask your local library to order our book, Armed Madhouse: Who's Afraid of Osama Wolf? Homeland Security now reserves the right to read over your shoulder at the library; therefore, the more our agents are forced to read this subversive material, the more likely we can convince them to come in out of the cold. All kidding aside, we do ask you to request your library order the book: not everyone can afford to purchase this hardbound edition.

Amy Goodman w/Pop. Mech. assist editr & Loose Chnge

The arguments over the physical evidence dominate. A couple of observations:

1) I had an opportunity to speak with Ms.Goodman in early 2003 at a social function during which time I tried to open the subject of her doing a story on the suspicious aspects of 911. I had a pretty close social connection to her. I engaged her about other matters first and eased into the 911 and antrhax stuff very slowly. Nevertheless, she was very dismissive, and gave me the 'he's one of them' looks. So, it's quite a bit of progress for her to have done this show at all - even though she makes quite a bit of hay about being the only live radio show to broadcast the events of that day (her studios are located only a couple blocks away from the former WTC's).

2) The PM editors contention that cell phone calls of any significant length were possible on commercial airliners in 2001 travelling at altitude at high speeds over rural areas is utterly ludicrous. Just try to make such a call today. You can't even get a service signal at regular cruising speed above 3,000 - 5,000 feet.

3) The strengths and weaknesses of focusing on the physical evidence are well illustrated by this show. The LC guys clearly lean to the 'no plane' at the Pentagon theory which is wrong, but they're right about Flight 93 and the cell phone calls. They're right on Cheney's stand-down order from the bunker under the WH, paraphrasing Mineta's testimony of those events. But their insistence on questioning that a large airliner flew into the Pentagon diminishes their credibility on these other issues.

4) The discussion over the physical evidence does tend to drown out the other evidence that is just as, if not more, compelling - such as the war games, the unbelievable 'coincidence' that the attacks happened on the same day and at precisely the SAME TIME as a live, real-time multiple hijacking war game, Sybil Edmonds testimony (and she's the only person against whom the admin has sought and obtained a gag order to prohibit her from talking about what she knows), the Islamic fundamentalist hijackers who were anything but fundamentalist Muslims, the money trail to Saed Sheik and Pakistan's ISI, Bin-Laden's status as a CIA/ISI operative, and Ted Olsen's obviously fraudulent report of his wife's call to him while she was aboard Flight 77, the lack of any cell phone records of any of the purported cell phone calls, the missing last 3 minutes of Flight 93's voice recorder, what happend to the recorders of the flights that hit the WTC's, the lack of sworn testimony or any criminal investigation worthy of the name, the destruction of evidence, the admission by the Chairman of the 911 Whitewash Commission that the military's testimony to them was perjured, and on and on and on....

There is too much evidence and too little time. Let's hope Ms. Goodman returns to this subject in the future.

Just some spur of the moment musings.....

Addendum,

What we need: 9/11 facts. Not 9/11 "truth". Facts that are "known knowns" to paraphrase Rumsfeld. Not conjecture about physics and heat and steel and plane impacts. We need FACTS. War games, "coincidences", insider trading, obstructed investigations, hijackers training/living at US military institutions, Hanjour being a horrible pilot, ETC.

That is what will get the movement the most traction. Talk of demolition will get us no where, it's to easy to refute at this time...there are to many other avenues to investigate, that will bare fruit.

@catlady..

I really like Banksy's art -- which is saying quite a bit, since I frequently find similar work to be tedious. The difference is that Banksy really does take appreciable risks -- both aesthetic and practical. This is one of his best efforts. That took balls!

Posted by: Uncle $cam | Sep 12 2006 6:58 utc | 64

@b real When I came in here tonight it was with a particular point in my mind that sort of coincides with what you are saying.

That is why did crystal meth suddenly become the drug a la mode at the start of the 21st century?

It's been around a very long time and while the odd indulgence was reasonably 'normal' I can't remember it ever being the primary drug of choice for many people until this decade, when it sorta cropped up everywhere at once.

Back in the '70s when the punk star was rising amphetamines were hugely popular but although crystal meth was around most seemed to prefer amphetamine sulphate and the like.

No this isn't about some tiresome good drugs v bad drugs spiel just a query about what the circumstances were that lead crystal meth which is the most socially destructive drug by far that I am aware of, worse than alcohol even, suddenly becoming widely available and widely in demand.

It creates anger fear and paranoia which is acted out on in really brutal ways.

The Maori people of NZ have been really badly hurt by this poison. I don't usually believe in making drugs 'illegal' but crystal meth seems worthy of banning if banning it were possible.

Much as I hate conspiracy theories of any sort, it is easy to convince oneself that crystal or "P" as they call it here in NZ has been spread about the planet for the sole purpose of causing destruction and distraction at this particular time in humanity's journey.

Ummm, don't facts = truth. Known knowns? That jet fuel only burns so hot, is a fact. That steel is rated to withstand a certain amount of heat for a certain length of time, is a fact. Neither of these is conjecture, nor is the physics behind it. These are known knowns. As is the fact that the evidence was carted away - including the black boxes - before the site could be investigated and the facts gathered.

3000 people were murdered 5 years ago yesterday, and many since. Don't we owe it to them to find the truth about their killers and bring them to justice? I guess this has gone beyond that quaint little concept.

Maybe there will never be any confession videos, but even if there was, I am sure that quite a few people would still believe the fairytales.

Posted by: beq | Sep 12 2006 12:59 utc | 71

The astonishing thing about 9/11 is that such a large proportion of people believe the official scenario. It opened my eyes. People believe what the Gvmt. and the TV announcers say, even when their own eyes, or a tad of common sense, or practically any knowledge of the world (defined by being over 10 years old) should lead them to question and doubt. I realised that I too, over the years, accepted some things I should not have...

beq. re. Dkos:

Democrats in the US, the left in England are part of the Gvmt. or of the leadership in general, and support it, while quibbling about gay marriage, health insurance, pollution, taxes, you name it.

They adhere to the founding myths and principles and as low man on the pole are even more censorious and condemning of ideological deviance. 9/11 - muslim terrorists attacked America - is a myth, that for them, must stand. They will, on the whole, as outsiders, political opponents, critisise the Gvmts. in place for their response, calling for some other, different approach (more troops, less troops, more controls, less discrimination against Muslims, more allies, more diplomacy, no war or terror, just on terrorists, new 9/11 investigations, etc. etc.); they adhere to a softie-left version of the ‘clash of civilisations’.

While the right booms out TERROR (bis, bis), the left stresses that Muslims are not really civilized, as they repress or oppress gays and women, and are, sadly, through no fault of their own, incapable of entering a ‘democratic culture’ or participating in the ‘free market’, etc.

If they attacked America, well its comprehensible, and actually astonishing that not more Muslims/Arabs have attacked, in view of all the harm done them in the past and their legitimate griefs... luckily only a minuscule % of them are bad apples who go on to destroy buildings with box cutters! Heh.

Uncle Scam’s (at 39) explanation is good, but these things rest on self-interest, first. Democrats (as an example) know on which side their bread is buttered, they are just the ‘left’ support for the military industrial complex, fooling the TV viewers into accepting that balancing opposing opinions, discussion, and voting are marks of nobility and cultural superiority and, more importantly, will actually solve problems.

((hang in there, Malooga))

Posted by: Noirette | Sep 12 2006 13:53 utc | 72

The ‘left’ or more generally opposition to the present Gvmt. in the US, now has a big problem.

A large part of their adherents, potential voters, and even readers of blogs like Billmon’s, a brilliant man who will not contest BushCo’s dispatches on this one point, etc., have opinions - 9/11 was an inside job, or more mildly, there are too many unanswered questions - that go against what is supposed to be the societal consensus, that evil muslims brought down ..etc.

The media, and the political parties, can no longer ignore that fact, they have been bashed, boycotted, inundated with mail, etc. They are right now at a loss and trying to stem the tide, are seeking an out by turning 9/11 into another wacky cultural issue, leaving some room for sceptics of ‘truthers’ to express ‘their opinion’ - after all, in a democracy, everyone can have their say! Social movements are cool, and we have to represent everyone! “Truthers” are wacky nuts, but people, too! Rebuttals are quickly presented from Gvmt. types, paid scientific shills.

But the media are very uneasy, very puzzled, at a loss. Their standard modus operandi, that is, to be a propaganda arm for the Gvmt while adding a lot of distractions and pizzaz (sex, etc.) and keeping incomprehensible news rolling over so fast that on one can understand it is crumbling. Some Democrats may soon be elected on the ‘truth’ issue. Not that that is good news at all.
