Moon of Alabama Brecht quote

WB: Land of Goshen

Billmon:

There is, of course, a slight, but not quite negligible, chance I will be the intentional or accidental target of a terrorist attack. Sharm el-Sheikh, you may recall, was bombed last July, and another resort just up the coast was hit a few weeks ago. However, I’ve always understood that my chances of getting killed on I-95 on my way to work each morning are vastly higher than the odds of falling victim to terrorism, even in the Middle East.

Uh oh.
Let’s see, Billmon generally goes about a month without posting with no forewarning, so… See you in 2008?
If you bring to travel writing what you bring to political writing, I’ll probably end up in Egypt by the end of the month.

Okay… how do I get a job like that? I was laid off in February and am still looking for suitable employment. Twenty-three years of technical writing and I’m aching to find something …interesting to do.
Is this just a contract job?
No, really… I’m serious.

Have a great trip. I didn’t know you were a fan of antiquities. I’ll go back and read your blog to learn something new.
You can still get very small cuneiform tablets from the Sumer era, but of course you need to know a reputable dealer. Calligraphy in books is also something amazing…a koran from the time of the Ottoman Turks whose provenance went through Mohammed Ali, the first Eyptian nationalist, was recently on sale at ABE. too steep for me. but beautiful.
Take care and be safe.
I wish I could find my courage again. I guess I need a trip to Oz.
Yeah, it’s sad, believe me, Missy, When you’re born to be a sissy –Without the vim and verve. But I could show my prowess, be a lion not a mou-ess
…If I only had the nerve.
I’m afraid there’s no denyin’ I’m just a dandelion,A fate I don’t deserve…
hmm hm hmhmhmhmhm hmm hmm hm hmhmhmhm
if I only had the nerve.
bon voyage.

Antiquities? An interest I also share. I’m jealous, although looks like I’ll be enjoying a leisurely trip from Athens to Thessalonika later this summer. Guess five Rome trips in four years is enough…
Have fun.

Target, schmarget.
Me, I’m just glad that Mr. Mon will not be going anywhere near the Dead Sea, or Colin Powell, this time around……

Bon Voyage, bill-mon ami!
Stay clear of tourist hotels if at all possible, and return to us safely. Thanks for your incomparable writing. You will outdo Lowell Thomas as a travel writer, no doubt….!

May the road rise w/ you, Billmon.
Egypt, what a fantastic place to visit.

The best way to dodge the “tourist” label is to wear entire outfits that are locally made. When I lived in Europe three years, my clothes stopped tipping folks, so no one assumed “American”. Why, even the French were nice. 🙂
