And Hayden, referring to Congress as "the second branch of government," punted all the interesting answers to a later, secret session.

and hayden is supposed to be an expert on intelligence? right. that’s about as big of a joke as the confirmation hearing yesterday, where the overall tone seemed to be congratulatory & delusional – general, you’ll do fine. but just remember, we’ll be watching you.
“oversight” about sums it up. another disgraceful effort by our horsehit congress.

‘Second Branch’ – telling slip wasn’t it?
My Favorite Hayden Line:
“We do not study the content of communication to determine which communication we want to study the content of.”
Also, Millbank’s article doesn’t mention all the punts.
I’ve put together a full list of all the questions Hayden referred to closed session here.

There’s no doubt that as an empire moves into decline the quality of it’s art improves. I have not attempted a hypothesis why this is so, it simply is. Some US TV can now be watched, which was something undreamed of 10 or 15 years ago.
Similarly the quality of the verse from those at the cutting edge of amerikan communication have rendered the post technological haiku, the sound bite into an exciting and vibrant form.
Hayden’s latest riff

“We do not study the content of communication to determine which communication we want to study the content of.”

informs that Hayden is coming close to ‘pushing the envelope of absurdist positivism’ seemingly stretched the the limits by his sensei and mentor Donald H Rumsfeild at his seminal Feb. 12, 2002, Department of Defense news briefing:

The Unknown
As we know,
There are known knowns.
There are things we know we know.
We also know
There are known unknowns.
That is to say
We know there are some things
We do not know.
But there are also unknown unknowns,
The ones we don’t know
We don’t know.
