You ain´t seen nothing yet 🙂 – annie has really nice things hidden from us.
@annie – a question: Whis this enormes height, how to you make these? Build from smaller pieces or on a rotating bench?
I love the meditating face impression.

first i threw the base, sort of like a big bowl about a third of the way up.i let this set up so it is stronger and firmer. then i threw a large ‘coil’ on another wheel, similar to what people use when they hand build, kind of looks like a small inner-tube. i attached it to the base and ‘pulled it up’ just the way one pulls up any form on the wheel. i threw the neck and head in one piece, let it set up and joined it at the sharp line on the shoulder. the face created itself later. it was sort of already there, i just gave it form.
i see faces in a lot of my work but usually resist the urge to turn them into people. but they’re all ‘beings’ to me, when they are wet, they are very alive. pottery is an art form that ‘dies’ when you fire it. therefor there is a certain intimacy with clay one only experiences when working on it. especially w/the wheel, it is a bit hypnotic, and sensual, otherwise the repetition would drive you nuts.

From my (small) experience with pottery it feels like it dies and is reborn as another “being” with complete new physical characteristics but still the same “person”.
This even more when using colors as they change while being burned. I was fascinated when I had a chance to experiment a bit with this.

annie- beautiful!
it’s my favorite of the pieces from you that I’ve seen. And, yes, the others have not been anthropmorphic.
but I love that face…it is such a mystery.
best to you on the exhibition.
