Annie, this is absolutely striking. Was your inspiration a calla lily? It instantly reminded me of one. Thanks for sharing this with us.

@Annie:
This is a clay flower vase, turned by hand, correct?
The color is neat. How did you manage it?
Or maybe I have been watching only those who finish brown clay.
Whatevever. Beautiful piece and color.

ok
groucho, thanks . wheel thrown . yellow iron oxide @ low temp oxidation (for color) w/cryolite and borax for the spots and irregularities.the photo lighting does give it a lighter pinker appearance. it’s a mat and as a result looks the same on any claybody, tho this is terracotta. certain flower arrangements might work, but this piece wasn’t made w/function in mind.

Annie:
Stem wall way too heavy.
Flare should have beveled up at the edge.
Glaze should’ve been plum red crackle out
and celadon on blue in.
Dolomite-4.4%
Whiting-11.3%
Zinc oxide-1.0%
Cornwall stone-42.0%
EPK-13.5%
Flint-27.8%
RIO-9%
Just teasing. You go girl.

Annie, I know your Young and Innocent, but is that a Cheney Vase?
Hehe.. j/k wonderful work, my first impression was that it held the universe; all our collective hopes dreams fears and nightmares.

Beautiful, annie.
But, as a former florist, my mind insists upon adding an arrangement to augment the vase. I see a simple arrangement, consisting of a round mass, about half again as high as the vase, of pale green hydrangea, interspersed with the random dark green spears of elephant grass. Top it off with a few dark purple spikes of liatris punctuating the composition. If you want to go whole hog, add in several pale buttery yellow mini-calla lillies, with their elongated trumpets emphasizing the horizontal sexual flare of the lip of the vase.

It has lot of character the face of this vase.

yikes. i gotta admit this is fun, i could see how it could become addictive;) y’know, after recovering from the shock.
malooga, i like your idea. because of the height of the vase i made the base running up the first foot very thick in anticipation someone may use it for an elongated arrangement, the only kind that would work visually.

I guess I’m the only florist in the bunch. OOOOH… Bad Pun. Bad, bad, bad. I promise not to do it again.
