Keller’s email on Judy:
until we know as much as we can about the substance of her evidence
There is no substance – she is lying to Fitzgerald as to her editors. But then there may also be a different explanation.
The Times may not be reporting on this because it is in legal trouble itself. Now that would be interesting …

emptywheel has some fun theories

To figure out what’s going on at the NYT, you read nothing but the corrections they’ve made on key Judy stories. I suspect this game works best if the articles are by-lined by Doug Jehl or David Johnston. Because if you put together the multiple corrections appended to their stories, you begin to see the outlines of a totally different story than the NYT has been telling.
Correction: July 30, 2005, Saturday An article on Thursday about the part played by Walter Pincus, a reporter for The Washington Post involved in the C.I.A. leak case, misstated his view about the reason an administration official might have volunteered information to him about the role reportedly played by the wife of the diplomat Joseph C. Wilson in arranging her husband’s trip to Niger. Mr. Pincus wrote in the current issue of Nieman Reports that he believed the official was ”practicing damage control by trying to get me to stop writing about Wilson” — not by trying to get him to write about Mr. Wilson.  The article also misstated the month in 2003 that the special prosecutor in the case said that another reporter, Judith Miller of The New York Times, talked to a specified government official. It was July, not June.  The article also carried an erroneous dateline. It was written in Washington on July 27, not 26.

The above may even more to the case in sight of this from Raw Story:
Report: Lawyers say investigation into CIA leak widens to probe ‘broader conspiracy’ around Iraq

Lawyers familiar with the investigation believe that at least part of the outcome likely hangs on the inner workings of what has been dubbed the White House Iraq Group. Formed in August 2002, the group, which included Messrs. Rove and Libby, worked on setting strategy for selling the war in Iraq to the public in the months leading up to the March 2003 invasion. The group likely would have played a significant role in responding to Mr. Wilson’s claims.

Let’s look at this:

ARTICLE 6
The Tribunal established by the Agreement referred to in Article 1 hereof for the trial and punishment of the major war criminals of the European Axis countries shall have the power to try and punish persons who, acting in the interests of the European Axis countries, whether as individuals or as members of organizations, committed any of the following crimes.
The following acts, or any of them, are crimes coming within the jurisdiction of the Tribunal for which there shall be individual responsibility:
(a) Crimes against Peace: namely, planning, preparation, initiation or waging of a war of aggression, or a war in violation of international treaties, agreements or assurances, or participation in a Common Plan or Conspiracy for the accomplishment of any of the foregoing;
(b) War Crimes: namely, violations of the laws or customs of war. Such violations shall include, but not be limited to, murder, ill-treatment or deportation to slave labor or for any other purpose of civilian population of or in occupied territory, murder or ill-treatment of prisoners of war or persons on the seas, killing of hostages, plunder of public or private property, wanton destruction of cities, towns, or villages, or devastation not justified by military necessity;
(c) Crimes against Humanity: namely, murder, extermination, enslavement, deportation, and other inhumane acts committed against any civilian population, before or during the war,14 or persecutions on political, racial, or religious grounds in execution of or in connection with any crime within the jurisdiction of the Tribunal, whether or not in violation of domestic law of the country where perpetrated.
Leaders, organizers, instigators, and accomplices participating in the formulation or execution of a Common Plan or Conspiracy to commit any of the foregoing crimes are responsible for all acts performed by any persons in execution of such plan.

Yes, a very wide shoot, but lets dream a bit…

The New York Times still hasn’t said that Bush lied about weapons of mass destruction, something that has been widely known by anyone with internet access who cared to find out even before the war began. 2 1/2 years later, and all they can do is defend their fake mole reporter, who helped create the lie in the first place.

If Murray Waas is right, Libby is gone:
Libby Did Not Tell Grand Jury About Key Conversation

In two appearances before the federal grand jury investigating the leak of a covert CIA operative’s name, Lewis (Scooter) Libby, the chief of staff to Vice President Cheney, did not disclose a crucial conversation that he had with New York Times reporter Judith Miller in June 2003 about the operative, Valerie Plame, according to sources with firsthand knowledge of his sworn testimony.

CIA Psychological Operations and Us

Snip:
PSYOP quote: “Established citizens … will be recruited initially as ‘Social Crusaders’ in typically ‘innocuous’ movements in the area of operations. When their ‘involvement’ with the clandestine organization is revealed to them, this supplies the psychological pressure to use them as ‘inside cadres’ in groups to which they already belong or of which they can be members.”
Snip:
PSYOP quote: “Bring about uprisings or shootings, which will cause the death of one or more persons, who would become the martyrs … in order to create greater conflicts.”

A CIA instruction manual entitled “Psychological Operations in Guerrilla Warfare” provides some clues. Written in the early 1980s (coincidentally, soon after Bush Sr. headed the Agency)

Also some interesting reading about Richard Helms here.

Dulles decided that Richard Bissell rather than Helms should become the new head of the DPP. Helms was named as his deputy. Together they became responsible for what became known as the CIA’s Black Operations. This involved a policy that was later to become known as Executive Action (a plan to remove unfriendly foreign leaders from power).

Speaking of transparency, all you AOL’ers out there might find it troubling that your friendly neighborhood policeman may be be watching what you say and what you do:
DHS and AOL: An Unholy Alliance
Washington- The American-based internet giant, AOL, wholly-owned by Time-Warner, has formed a working partnership with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security to permit unlimited surveillance of the millions of AOL online members, according to a report from the U.S. Department of Commerce.

@Uncle $cam MoA users would be advised to stay well away from AOL under any circumstances.
Few endeavours sum up the morally reprehensible actions of the big boys that has overtaken commercial behaviour since the corporatisation of planet earth as well as this sleazy organisation’s activities.
eg AOL’s foot dragging response to the threat posed to the email network by large scale spamming is detailed in this article by an information security and computer forensics expert.
AOL will let spammers overwhelm their customers’ In-boxes as long as the spammers pay the AOL ‘protection’.
“AOL is being ridiculous when they suggest that their billion SPAM march on
cyberspace does any good whatsoever. In fact, AOL is being downright
deceptive in their assertion that blocking inbound SPAM on behalf of their
subscribers who use @aol.com e-mail addresses is a virtue: AOL blocks SPAM
sent to their subscribers without AOL’s permission (paid ‘advertisements’
are sent to AOL subscribers with AOL’s full support) but AOL does NOT block
SPAM that AOL users send to people who use OTHER ISP’s e-mail services.”

DHS and AOL: An Unholy Alliance
Uncle Scam — I spent quite a bit of time trying to track down that story, but I couldn’t find any trace on the web or in Nexis of the publication, the author or the study it refers to. I’ve also never heard of the web site it was cited on (tbrnews.org) If you have any more info on it, would you post it here? Thanks.

Posted by: Billmon | Oct 12 2005 21:24 utc | 10

Billmon, it’s more than a Highly Suspect Source. In fact, I think it’s been entirely discredited. If you check, I’m fairly certain someone on kos w/in last several mos. to yr. did a rundown on them. I think it’s run by an old nazi apologist/holocaust denier of some sort. I don’t have time to do the google & extract the info. for you but if you google tbrnews.org site:dailykos.com, there’s plenty of info for you.

Why the hell would anyone support an Oligarch like AOL anyway? Stick w/local ISP’s.
AOL has a vested interest in consolidating their power/control. The fewer subscribers they have, the less they have of it to abuse. It’s a they win, we lose situation whatever the details…a bomb just waiting to explode.

@Billmon
I’m sorry, I may have jumped the shark on this story. I usually wait till I find one other collaboration or link before I post. I did not do that in this case.
However, in a similar vein, it is common knowledge that Colin Powell at one time owned $13.3 million in AOL stock. His son, Michael Powell, former FCC chairman was one of the five FCC commissioners who approved the colossal AOL/Time-Warner merger. According to this website: Kenneth A. Minihan of the NSA (National Security Agency) and George J. Tenet of the CIA (Central Intelligence Agency) were, and still may very well be, on the board of directors of AOL/TIME WARNER. That does not validate my inital comment, but it is interesting nonetheless.
