WB: The New Black

Did you hear the one about the nun, the monkey and the New Orleans?

Those people, indeed. A Mississippian writes this letter to the Chicago Sun-Times:
“Were a meteorological catastrophe of Biblical proportions to strike any major American city, it would, as Katrina did in New Orleans, flush to the surface for all Americans to see, untold thousands living impoverished, non-productive lives, largely because of the socialistic gods all big government, tax-and-spend Democrats worship: the welfare system and entitlement programs.”

Funny coming from Rep. Kingston, whose district (about 75% white in voting age population) includes Savannah. I take it he is confident that HIS God (the Episcopalian one, according to Project Vote Smart) will not be directing something wicked Savannah’s way any time soon. Asshole.

when i put my cynical hat on, i get the feeling that all of this racially-coded rhetoric is part of a campaign designed to antagonize people enough that they will actually insist on rebuilding the slave camps themselves, accepting of subwages in the face of no other alternative, and insistant on inhabiting what should otherwise be deemed a toxic wasteland, a natual sacrificial area.

No, I haven’t heard the one about the nun, the monkey, and New Orleans. Should I?

I don’t know the joke either.
I just got an email from my sister. She’s been volunteering at the Astrodome since the evacuees arrived. Now she’s stocking up on water and food…she’s north of Houston, but has been told by local weather people to expect 100 to 120 mph winds even there, if Rita hits Galveston directly. All have been told to expect to lose electricity for at least three days.
Issac’s Storm is one of her favorite books…hopefully people in Galveston will not have to relive it.
Maybe I’m wrong, and I certainly wasn’t going to mention it to my sister at this time, but with the report in the Independent that ice melting may now be irreversible, I expect we’ll see more bad storms rather than fewer.
I wonder what might be the tipping point, at which people will decide it makes more sense to permanently move out of an area…although no doubt many would decide to stay no matter what.

The Mississippian who wrote that letter should read the WaPo someday, any day would do. S(he) would be hard pressed to find anyone discussed in the front section who isn’t “living impoverished, non-productive lives”..let’s see there’s the guy in the WH, all the lobbyists & the guys they launder the Pirates Money for on Capitol Hill…If one were asked to choose who posed a greater risk to the Republic, the choice is obvious.
Wonder how this creature feels about all the illegals imported from across the border to work like slaves taking American jobs so the Pirates don’t have to pay real wages…or the Indians likewise being imported in Silicon Valley to destroy American jobs, or the Phillipinos being imported to take teachers jobs in Nevada…

This sort of stuff is going to become more vitriolic as the hate mongers who have had a pretty fair run undisturbed by the establishment in the last few years, begin to feel isolated and targets of contempt.
I don’t buy the print media too much and would never buy Time in a fit, however I was surprised to see the cover of Time in a newsagent the other day. It posed a question along the line of “Is the Katrina horror the result of our attitude towards African Amerikans?”
I didn’t read the thing but I’ve no doubt that Time would have found a way to answer the question in the negative. Nevertheless I’m also sure that the magazine would have expressed attitudes that would make any self respecting White Supremacist wonder if all his white brothers were onside.
He can relax though because as Robbie Burns said “There’s many a slip twixt cup and lip” and we can be sure that however many billions get thrown in the general direction of New Orleans, insufficient will reach the grasping paws of the dispossed to enable them to become uppity.
As regards the joke I haven’t heard it either but I’m almost certain I wouldn’t want to.
Perhaps we’ve been keeping our thoughts to ourselves around the water cooler for too long. It is tiresome to be looked at by friends family and colleagues as some sort of holier than thou wowser but it never hurts when some moron is cracking something sleazy to remind the audience of the reality. You know follow the punchline up with “Oh I get it you mean the people who drowned in New Orleans!”

nun – religious right
monkey – chimp
“the New” Orleans – Orleans is a hotel and casino in Las Vegas, Nevada
I think this is a test. We’re supposed to invent it.
Any other ideas?

Poor, poor little monkey. Didn’t know putting the cork back would be so hard.

Posted by: bcf | Sep 21 2005 21:53 utc | 10

the nun has a monkey on her back because of NO?

Posted by: annie | Sep 21 2005 22:18 utc | 11

what bcf said! Just sub ‘chimp’ for monkey. I get a vision of shrub and the republican mascot…

There is no joke involving a nun, a monkey and a New Orleans, at least not that I know of. The gag was imagining some redneck telling a racist joke, but substituting “New Orleans” for n—–. (I still can’t say the word, even though every black comic on television these days seems to use it in about every other sentence.)

Well, you had us going. Shoulda seen how long you could string us out. Y’know, give us a hint……..

Posted by: Malooga | Sep 22 2005 3:40 utc | 14

well, that being said it’s about time someone create a image of the chimpster himself on the back of the RNC who are all acting like strung out addicts.

over at creatapunchline I found this:
Did you hear the one about the nun, the monkey and the New Orleans?
,,,no you didn’t. it’s one of those conspiracy theorists spreading crazy stories, playing the blame game… and put that camera down before I shoot you.
