Nobody expects the Jews! Our three weapons are: stealth, greed, avarice and envy . . .
four! Our four weapons are: stealth, greed, avarice, envy and lust . . . five! Our five weapons, oh let’s come in again!

Global Guerrillas has been providing some insightful reporting on these 2005 insurgent strongholds.
More significant than the means of escape is the reality of their presence in the first place. After all, in Vietnam if the only authority that villagers were exposed to were VC then the VC were running the country as far as they were concerned. Who controlled Saigon was irrelevant. And where insurgents can provide authority which a governing body cannot this legitimises them as an authority.
Same goes for Afghanistan where you have another “green-zone” objective with little other widespread imposition of rule.

There’s one way Iraq is different than Vietnam. After “battles”, at least they’re not doing body counts. Or at least releasing the results.
More like New Orleans in that regard.

Isn’t there a typo? I thought it was Mr. Hilter. And Mr. Bimmler, Ron Ribbentrop, and that nice Mr. McGoring who found a place you can rent bombers by the hour.

but, bcf, I still like my button that says ‘Iraq is Arabic for Vietnam’
If they had alligators in Iraq, we would have no reasons to do body counts there either.

That’s right… Hilter.

Although I seem to remember at one point someone says “Heil Hitler! I mean Hilter.” But it’s been a long time. We don’t have Python on tv anymore here.

Seems like the only lesson the Bush junta learned from Vietnam was not to do body counts.
Kind of like the lesson they learned from Abu Ghraib was to get rid of the camera phones….

Hmmm – I thought we’d “broken the enemy’s back” in Fallujah back in Nov ’04 . . . guess they’ve got more than one back to break?
