Fake Speech

Froomkin on tonight’s speech:

Bush will take advantage of powerful imagery — the Associated Press reports the speech will be held in historic Jackson Square, with the famous St. Louis Cathedral as a backdrop — and he won’t risk having anyone around who might disagree with him or ask an impertinent question. In fact, the AP says, there won’t be a live audience at all. (And even the journalists covering the event are being told they won’t be allowed to stray from their press vans.)

Would the networks please show an overview of that place? Bush standing alone at the pulpit in open space and preaching to nothing but a few cameras and the surrounding disaster.

Please show us that very wide angle shot of fake.

Good luck with that. As the intensity and need have worn off, the MSM has gone back on familiar paths. CNN has upped Bush’s ratings using questionable methodology and the right wing talking heads are everywhere on the tube. And with the announcement this evening that the federal govt plans to spend more than we are spending in Iraq to fix up New Orleans, the pigs will be at the trough and the Democrats will lack the spine to say “No” to the pork, even though they will get less than the Repubs. Bread and circuses, bread and circuses, folks.

does this mean that the USGov is scared shitless of their own inadequacy, incompetence, powerlessness and the people really *seeing* it for what it is ?

Um. I worked for ITN, covered Downing St and a NATO Summit, among other things. The way it works is as follows: The text of Bush’s speech is offset printed and distributed to TV correspondents hours ahead of time, so they can plan out their intros and lead-ins to key sound bites. Cameras are given an exact position and have to frame Bush against the background chosen by White House set decorators. Sorry, no long shots unless there’s an unplanned event, like a heckler or other sensational kaboom. Camera pictures are beamed wireless to the satellite trucks and thence to whichever edit suite is assigned to do the flagship evening news ‘package.’ Nobody is permitted to deviate from the White House approved coverage, on pain of losing their credentials.

name: No, no, it means the Neo’s are *succeeding* in their plan to drown government in the corporate-socialist bathtub, just dressing up incompetence-led crisis in the stars and stripes, slapping a hundred billion with a “B” on it as a supplemental appropriation, and anyone who says anything negatory gets thrown to the RWMSM hyenas, then the RNC black op’s will gas your election district, and disappear your ballots out into the desert, buried alive.
Saddam had nothing on Der George…. Thank God we have Der Fuehrer!
How would we ever survive one crisis after another without *HRH* to
show US where to spend our great-great-grandchildren’s inheritance?!
“The Great New Orleans Flood” de juer will become the single greatest corporate-socialist porkbarrel in all of recorded history!

Suggested audio track for the speech:

Went to see the captain, strangest I could find,
Laid my proposition down, laid it on the line.
I won’t slave for beggar’s pay, likewise gold and jewels,
But I would slave to learn the way to sink your ship of fools.
Ship of fools on a cruel sea, ship of fools sail away from me.
It was later than I thought when i first believed you,
Now I cannot share your laughter, ship of fools.
Saw your first ship sink and drown, from rockin’ of the boat,
And all that could not sink or swim was just left there to float.
I won’t leave you drifting down, but woh it makes me wild,
With thirty years upon my head to have you call me child.
Ship of fools on a cruel sea, ship of fools sail away from me.
It was later than I thought when i first believed you,
Now I cannot share your laughter, ship of fools.
The bottles stand as empty, as they were filled before.
Time there was and plenty, but from that cup no more.
Though I could not caution all, I still might warn a few:
Don’t lend your hand to raise no flag atop no ship of fools.
Ship of fools on a cruel sea, ship of fools sail away from me.
It was later than I thought, when i first believed you,
Now I cannot share your laughter, ship of fools.
It was later than I thought when i first believed you,
Now I cannot share your laughter, ship of fools.

He’s so isolated. Standing at a podium, alone in front of cameras, in a deserted square, in a city destroyed and now without people. Speaking to a nation that has grown suspicious of his motive and cynical of his deeds. From a nation, the world sees now as only an apparition, a ghost of its former self. And yet we will all watch. Watch it like some cosmic carwreck that slowly collapses further and farther into itsef, ever and ever more remote and away, and away, and away with him, once and for all.

How Philosophy Overcomes Propaganda
In this essay, we’ll explore how the embodiment of the Perennial Tradition called philosophy overcomes indoctrination, brainwashing, and conditioning. Every advanced teacher within the Perennial Tradition has provided insight into how false communication–propaganda, lies, deception, and mind-control–can be defeated.

Ach, how it makes me weep for what could haf been. In the Old Reich, at the end, our dear Leader was forced to stay in his bunker for fear of the Bolsheviks.
Ach, what miracles he could have worked if he had this thing called television!
He would easily have aroused the German nation to its very peak! He would surely have inspired every true Aryan heart to the utmost defense of the Fatherland! He would have made the camera crews stand for days, if necessary, in order to capture his every word to the Volk . . .
but alas, he did not have TV.
That marvelous propaganda tool is now in the hands of men who are mere shadows of the Master.
Ach, for the good old days!

Yesterday Augusto Pinochet lost his immunity from prosecution. He can now be tried in a case against him.Sometimes we have to have small things to give us hope.I wont be here 30 years from now but I can dream that maybe the same thing could happen here!..Maybe!

@R.L.
you knew there was a catch coming, right…

Pinochet acquitted in rights case
Chile’s Supreme Court has upheld the acquittal of ex-military ruler Augusto Pinochet in a human rights case.
He had been charged with ordering the abduction and murder of political adversaries in the so-called Operation Condor in the 1970s.
The court upheld an earlier appeals court decision which ruled that Gen Pinochet was too ill to face trial.
The move came a day after the Supreme Court stripped him of his immunity from prosecution in another case.

from another source:

The supreme court voted Wednesday to allow him to be tried for an event known as “Operation Colombo,” in which 119 leftist dissidents disappeared in July 1975.

earlier in july, pinochet had been stripped of any immunity in that case.

My fellow Americans:
For the first time since I became president, I want to do what is best for the country. Over the past 5 years as your president, I have not acted admirably. I must admit that I have lied to you. Because of these lies, thousands are being killed in Iraq, including many of our fine troops. I have cheated the country out of billions of dollars, which I passed off to my friends without regard for the nation. I have used fear and hatred to promote my agenda, which is designed only to help the wealthy elite at the expense of the poor and even the middle class. I have not acted with honor.
Moreover, I was never really qualified to be President of the United States. I know very little about the rest of the world. I have no understanding of basic economic principles. I am not a competent military leader. I have allowed my religious beliefs to cloud my judgment of many matters. I have relied heavily on others to guide my presidency, and they often had their own agendas. Some of these individuals, in truth, were quite incompetent. I also hired friends to key government positions for which they were not qualified, with devastating results.
In short, I do not deserve to be your president. Effective immediately, I resign.
