And there are Strange Rumblings in Uzbekistan as well.
“Uzbekistan on Thursday threatened to evict the United States military from an important air base near the border with Afghanistan.”

It was observed that one of the shephards had been reading aloud from Thomas Friedman’s latest column. Vacuous, disjunctive prose has that effect on a lot of mammals.

What they needed were some leadersheep.
btw, christian fundies are very big on the analogy (Jesus said it himself, in red letters, in fact!) of Jesus as the shepherd (and by extension, church pastors like Falwell and Robertson) and christians as a flock of sheep….the better to draft them, I suppose…like that wacko pastor whose started encouraging his “flock” to wear camoflauge…would that make them wolves in sheep’s clothing? or vice versa? Vice versa, I think.
What sheep are you?
Somebody wanna host this gif of a sheep being taken away by the lizard’s spacecraft..somehow apropo…
Do sheep dream of Dolly the clone? ..isn’t it kind of redundant to clone a species that already acts as one mind?

“It was observed that one of the shephards had been reading aloud from Thomas Friedman’s…”
Looks like they they took the “world is flat” a bit too literally…

I saw this on Billmon and here and thought it was reflective that it feels like the whole animal kingdom is loosing its grip.
The thread was put up on smirkingchimp by someone I respect and boardnanny locked it. Still more reflection of loosing one’s grip.

Further evidence of the race to the bottom, with schadenfreude from the New York Times, as she calls for the curtailment of civil liberties in England in a lead news feature. The truly incandescent prose is at the top of the piece, but after things cool down, we still get gems of analysis like this one:
Across Britain since Sept. 11, 2001, nearly 800 people have been arrested under the Terrorism Act of 2000, according to recent police records. Of that number, 121 were charged with terrorism related crimes, but only 21 people have been convicted.
A nice, meaningless statistic devoid of context. Reminiscent of body counts, that.
In the next round of this exciting new game, we can expect hysterical calls for the US federal government to follow suit on whatever restrictions the British government adopts to tighten up its own security. That bin Laden guy must really be steaming now, finding out how he’s played right into our hands.
